Okay despite me blabbering about Mi7 and 8 production details to anyone who has a ear I somehow didn’t notice the Mi7 trailer drop last month 💀
Tbh first time I watched I spent more time confirming that it was the actual trailer rather than a fan trailer but it’s from the official paramount pictures youtube and also they’ve got the fucking motorcycle off a cliff stunt everyone was talking about back when it was in filming
Already howling about my boy, Benji is only in two shots and he looks sickeningly worried in both.
Also continuing on the theory that it’s Ilsa who’s going to die they’ve introduced the Hayley Atwell character who seem close and they’ve got Ilsa so now Ethan has two love interests although they had a LOT of shots of Ethan and Ilsa in the trailer but I guess we gotta get audience sympathy for Ilsa before they kill her off
I remember back when the theory was that it was either Benji or Ilsa dying and frankly even if the evidence pointed to Benjis death I would ignore because NOOOO

You must be strong 'cause the show must go on - To my favourite Mission Impossible series
Just got back from watching Dead Reckoning Part One for the third time. It's like I've been to ilsa's scribbled funeral all over again. I had promised I would watch all the different formats when MI7 is released. Now I just can't stand it anymore. I've tried my best. It is just too much of a mess.
I remember having a great time at the theaters when "Rogue Nation" and "Fallout" came out, watching one five times and the other seven times. Loved it every time and never got bored. At the time, I thought, this is my favorite movie series. Life had something to look forward to and get excited about, and I could endure any pain to live, just to see it return to the big screen again and again.
In 2019 Tom announced on Twitter that McQ would go on to direct MI7 & 8, and I remember everyone being happy that knowing it would be in good hands. That news was like insurance for the series. Yes, "No one knows Mission Impossible better than McQ", "Rogue Nation and Fallout proved how wise it was to choose him", "Tom + McQ, sure to make another hit! " Words like these filled the social networks and we all thought we would continue to witness more miracles. It was a promising time.
And then the pandemic began. The world was plunged into isolation, stagnation and chaos. Every country and everyone went through a difficult time. In the second half of 2020, all the movie crews postponed or shut down, only MI7 continued to film under Tom's leadership and persistence. Every day I posted on-set photos and news, and continued to follow the filming of the movie. They were the only light in those dark days. Tom and the entire cast and crew exemplified the spirit of Mission Impossible in action, wrote an odyssey in the modern world. They are my heroes.
The release date of the movie was postponed several times because of the pandemic. In the years when tens of millions of people have lost their lives to covid, that postponement is worrying. "Will I live to see the day MI7 hits theaters?" "What? It's postponed again? Are we going to dodge death for another year?" Mission Impossible had meant so much more than a movie to me. It became my motivation to live.
We all go through times of despair, especially when you in front line and face people's deaths head on every day. Stress, anxiety, depression, and a growing epidemic with no end in sight, make you want to end all this suffering once and for all. Whenever that happens, I think to myself, hang in there a little longer, at least until MI7 is released, don't give up. By that faith, I survived. So I'm grateful to them. They unintentionally saved a lot of lives, another heroic feat for sure.
With the filming of the Venice scenes underway (there were lots of fans and locals milling around every day while the crew filming in Rome and Venice), rumors that Ilsa would die gradually spread, yes, back in 2020, if any newer fans didn't know. At the time we didn't think there was anything to worry about, it wasn't even real. How could McQ do such a thing, he loves the character so much. And in 2023, here we are, LOL.
Anyone who has seen the movie knows that there are clues that hint at the possibility that Ilsa is not dead. With Ilsa's smirk, the look that Alanna gives Ethan, Luther's words, and even Gabriel's pained expression when he stabbed Ilsa, you can find a lot of proof. It's not that I can't accept a storyline where Ilsa dies, even if she dies for real, as long as her death is worth it and not so scribbled and out of character. This should not be at the level of the MI series, nor McQ. That's what really frustrates and pisses off MI fans and audiences.
There is no doubt that the epidemic has seriously affected the filming and production of the movie, resulting in higher costs and less coherence. But still, A director/writer is responsible for it. I'm reminded of Tina Fey joked about her second time hosting the Golden Globes, "Because it's Hollywood, if something kinda works, they'll keep doing it until everybody hates it." Each installment of the MI series had a different director, which is a great tradition. When it comes to McQ it's an exception. Maybe they should have changed director after Fallout's success. Or maybe don't force in a character like Grace and have everyone set her off, make room for her, crown her, and ultimately cause the movie to go off a cliff like a runaway train.
I will always love Mission Impossible, no matter what. It's part of my life. I will always go to the theater to support it and promote it. But the facts are out there, it wasn't good enough, it didn't live up to the expectations of the fans, and people are allowed to point out the reasons why it messed up so that the next one can be bettered. To all the MI fans and audiences who have been hurt by Dead Reckoning Part One, I want to say: You must be strong 'cause the show must go on, this is not the end.
The actors' union strike has left a lot of uncertainty about the MI8 filming. But isn't that what Mission Impossible is all about? We improvise and overcome one difficulty after another, to ultimately complete the mission. Out of thousands of variables, the outcome will be different because of even one small change. What would it do if there were an Entity? Maybe it would say, give me a Grace and I can rule the world. Hahaha, sorry for the last Dead Reckoning joke (or maybe not).
I also believe in a parallel universe where Ethan and Ilsa live a happy and peaceful life. Please have faith in our secret agent couple and have faith in your life. "Nothing above love, in the end we have each other."

First of all, thank you for your amazing work on this blog. It's the best and most dedicated one out there, not only for Rebecca Ferguson, but actors/actresses in general.
My question is probably silly and has been answered before, but that pic of Rebecca and Tom Cruise, of her wrapping up the filming of MI:7 left me worried. Is Rebecca/Ilsa confirmed for MI:8? For some reason, the pic and the comment left me with a sad feeling, they brought back all those rumors about Ilsa meeting her end during MI:7.
HI!
Thank you so much for your kind words! It means a lot to us! This blog is our "baby", we try to keep it running in our free time and we do really appreciate all the support for our work!
It's not a silly question, don't worry:) We are pretty confident that Rebecca is coming back to MI8 when they start filming. Chris McQaurrie way back before they started filming MI7 (in June 2020, I think) made an appearance on Light the Fuse Podcast 100th Episode and said that Rebecca, Vanessa and Ving are coming back for MI7 and MI8. Before that they were rumoured to return, but it wasn't official.
Rebecca's imdb page lists Mi8 as one of her projects: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0272581/
Now bare in mind she has another project to film - tv series Wool which by all accounts should start filming any day now that she is wrapped with MI7, but we are pretty confident she'll manage to shoot the series and then join Mi8 when they start shooting, because Mission films take really long to film even without the pandemic delays:). We won't be 100% sure though probably until we see set pics from Mi8.
As to Ilsa's possible demise in Mi7 we wrote a lengthy post about why we don't think it's likely to happen. In short, we think that it will bring nothing to Ilsa's character and will be ultimately about Ethan's pain (yet another loss for him) and McQ is a better storyteller than that. It would be extremely anticlimactic after the events in Fallout.
Thank you again for your kind words!

MI EHxIF HC
So, I have this headcanon. I am no fic writer though 😅 so if any of the very very few MI fic writers here (and very2 talented) want to continue or expand this, you're very welcome to. (nudge @ilsafausts & @grizzbe , and others I don't know about) In fact I was about to submit this as prompt but I thought I'd post this here cause it's too long 😂. Here it is:
After one last impossible mission (maybe MI7 or 8?), IMF team made a decision to disband & finish (since The Apostles are all caught let's say), & free to do what they each want. After a bittersweet goodbye, they went separate ways. 5 years later, Luther bumped into Benji, they then caught up & reminisce on old times, and had an idea for a reunion of The Team. They found Brandt first. And the three tried to track down Ethan & Ilsa. Since both of them were two of the most skilled agents of the top intelligence organisations in the world, it is no surprise to the team that those two went into extreme hiding & were difficult to track. However, Ethan knew that they were trying to reach him, and left some breadcrumbs for them. As such, they'd figure they can find Ethan first and that means another brain to find Ilsa later.
Codes after codes, and about 50 or more hints and clues later, it led them to a small, remote village in the foot of the towering Swiss Alps. Switzerland; smart choice, how Ethan could enter and settle there, they couldn't even begin to think, but then again, it's Ethan Hunt. The terrain surrounding the village made it inaccessible by public roads, and the remoteness made comms very, very limited. Well, they found the place, and it is a small village, but there are still hundreds of houses.
They were hoping it would be Ethan who approached them first, and sure enough, they didn't have to wait long. Brief hugs exchanged, he brought the three to a wooden house with a small farm; just like hundred similar others in the village.
"Drastic change of career you have here, huh?" Benji remarked while looking around at the furry cows.
"Well after what we all went through with IMF, I'd say it's not surprising, I'd do the same as Ethan if I had THE connections in this country." Luther replied, while Ethan just laughed. It's indeed been a long time and he did miss the gang. They sat in the dining room, and caught up the last 5 years, since the time they went their own ways. After a while, the door suddenly opened and before any of them could register it, a small shadow ran towards Ethan and hugged him.
"Daddy!"
"Heeeyy bud, you're back already!"
Benji, Luther, and Brandt gaped at the scene and couldn't believe their eyes.
"Ethan.. Is this-- but then who--" Benji, always the more talkative of the three, managed to get some words out.
Before he could correct his stammering, another entrance was made, and all eyes turned to the door.
It was Ilsa.
Ethan's eyes met Ilsa's and went back to the three. "To answer your question, yes, he's ours".
Ethan & Ilsa started the kettle & grabbed some mugs. It's a long overdue catchup with the trio.

Ethan: Ilsa, come away with me.
Ilsa: What about the world and everything?
Ethan: Forget about the world and you are everything to me.
Ilsa: Wow…

Now that another actress has been added to the cast of MI7 and 8 so you think that there will be space for Rebecca too? I wish she still was the female lead :(
Yes, both of us think Rebecca is going to be back for at least one more film. With that ending in Fallout it will be very strange to not see/hear about Ilsa ever again. And one thing we can be absolutely sure of is that Christopher McQuarrie gives all his characters significant character arcs and time to shine not depending on how stacked the cast is. Like Rebecca said, everyone has a purpose.
