The Immortal Man:

During the pre-historic time of Earth, there were two rival tribes: the Bear Tribe and the Wolf Tribe.

There were frequent skirmishes regarding hunting territory. The two, however, remained equals.

This all changed after one winter night. A fight had occurred between a Wolf scout party and a Bear hunting party.

Those wolves who could stand fled while the Bears took back their injured.

One wolf was barely breathing. Sometime later, he saw a strange glow….

Later, the abandoned Wolf would take over his tribe through overwhelming strength and the inability to be killed. He set up a strength hierarchy, where the weak was culled, got strong, or obeyed.

He then went on to invade and kill or enslave weaker surrounding tribes.

When the Wolf tribe was strong enough, the Chief led them to defeat the Bear tribe.

It was a slaughter.

There was only one survivor: the small son of the Bear Chief.

The child, frightened & grieving, could only wander the cold wasteland. He prayed, to anything that was listening, to help him. Whether to live or to get revenge is uncertain.

The answer came in the form of a small, glowing stone.

From then on, the ones who would become known as Vandal Savage & the Immortal Man would be locked in combat, literally or figuratively.

Vandal Savage would continue to survive and scheme in each era of history, moving from the front lines to manipulating those who held great power.

The Immortal Man would die and reappear in whatever form that is required, with all the skills that he has accumulated throughout his lives.

Vandal Savage would score the Earth for his long-time foe, the only man who can scar him & perhaps even kill. The Immortal would continue to face Vandal, whether facing him head on or subtly undermine him.

Through it all, the two would gain more knowledge and skill, sharpening and elevating their minds.

However, the remained as they ever were:

Vandal Savage, a man who believes might makes right. That the weak must bow before the strong. That the strong has the ability to carve their own destinies.

Immortal Man, who goes by many names, a man who believes in the warmth of companionship and community. The love shared between family, whether born or made. Where everyone has an important role to play.

I’m basing my version of Immortal Man on Silver Age + Forgotten Heroes + Doc Savage.

Caden is one of the metahumans descended from Klarn Arg, the Immortal Man. After trying and failing to lead the “House of Action” in Klarn’s stead, Caden broke off as an independent agent, keeping the Blood-Mask artifact that Klarn himself had taken from the All-Caste centuries ago. Making use of the Caste’s All-Blades drew their attention, as well as Jason Todd, another former adherent. Thus began Caden’s time as a true Outlaw.

Annie is Brimstone, a young transwoman who made a deal with “The Salesman” that ended with her bonded to the Apokoliptan demon Quellzorn. Struggling through a series of battle in and around her hometown of York Hills, she eventually moved away entirely to join up with The Unexpected and begin to better understand not only Quellzorn, but Brimstone’s mysterious link to the Firestorm Matrix.

Ethan is one of two metahumans known as “Damage” and use of the name was a point of contention with Grant Emerson when they first met. In classic fashion, they became fast friends after brawling it out and realizing they had more in common than they thought, both being the result of...”attempts” let’s say to recreate the powersets of the Justice Society’s members in a single individual. Ethan would eventually learn that the process used to create his abilities were a scientific approximation of the mystical process that the lost Roanoke colonists and their Sheeda forebear/descendants would/will use to create Grundymen.

Honestly, when bart came back to the past for his mission, he didn't expect to see one of his friends he left behind.

So excuse him for standing still and gaping like an idiot at the clearly looking teenager on his phone.

At the call, the stranger– his bestie— looked up.

It is his friend.

The same black haired, too blue eyed teen with baby fat clinging to his cheeks, the same way his hair appears white and eyes green when unfocused and not paying attention.

The boy merely blinks, looks down on his phone, and then looks up again.

It became somewhat of a game for them.

Everytime the speedster appeared in a different year, hell even universe for the kicks, the first thing he does is search for Danny.

(The teen is there, each time.)

And every time he succeeded, Danny helps him with the problem, or slightly nudges him to the path really.

(Each time bart worries less for the time stream and disturbances, his friend seems to be outside of it to truly bring harm.)

(And if he meets Clockwork along the way, that's a secret between them. And the part where he gets hired for the similar stuff danny gets sent to the past.)

(For them it's a casual Wednesday. So what if they just saved an entire planet? Its nothing big!)
