Reshelled Dolls

Having been in this crazy hobby since May 2011, I have accumulated quite a few dolls (current count as of Nov 12. 2023: 51), but not all have stayed. Some even got reshelled.

Most of my reshelled dolls completely replaced the original shell, except in the case of Ursa and Lily. I have both of their (very different looking) shells still in my collection, with each being a version of the OC they represent. The others were mostly sold, though a few got a different character assigned to them (Val 1.0 Head = Kass, Morgan 1.0 = Viola, Sam 2.0 Head = Ivy). Basically I reshell dolls when their characters outgrow their doll avatars so to say.

I even reshelled my first doll, Melody, who had been an Obitsu 60cm Gretel and is now a Doll Chateau Snow Nymph. The original shell was sold because I found I vastly preferred resin to vinyl, and because the character had fallen out of use/importance. So initially I didn't even intend to reshell her.

It's kind of funny how Melody came about to be reshelled. I instantly fell in love with the DC Snow Nymph upon seeing her pictures, but couldn't afford or justify her yet, but I knew I needed her. It took me a while to figure out why and who she needed to be, and then it clicked, she was Melody.

My wife (then fiancee) surprised me by ordering her on layaway as a wedding gift for me. Which is very special for many reasons, one being that Melody had been the first OC I created specifically to RP with my wife with (though we were only friends at that point, quickly becoming besties though). So it was only fitting that she became a wedding gift in 2015 from my wife (though it took her many more years to finally shell Darten, her husband, in 2019 I think?).

Anyway, do you guys have any reshelled dolls, and if so, why or why not?

When I started collecting BJDs, I was really into the 1/4 scale dolls. I've collected a few of the larger dolls, too, and a gaggle of tinies.

But the "Yo-SD" size didn't grab me. I'm not that into baby dolls or child-dolls. My mom had been collecting in that style, though, and wanted me to be able to play with her. So I found a strange catgirl YO that I liked, and mom got her for me for my birthday.

I have a collection of that size now, and they are all peculiar in some way.

Ginger is the pirate, they are my NB kiddo. They love to share clothes with everybody.

Gala is a Lekeworld Soda Ent, and she is the de facto leader. Kitty is my original, she's an Impldoll Aimee, and Bruce is a 5 Star BatBoy. (He's in character as "Damien.")

"Hey, guys, I heard we are getting a new sibling today!"

"Yeah, Kukla got a box in the mail from @coolcatsodalite and has been restringing somebody."

"DZAAAH!"

"Dude, you're naked!"

"Buddy, let me help. You can wear my cape-"

Ooof.

"She doesn't want to wear your cape, Bruce. Here, try my skirt on."

"Dzaa?"

"Oh, that's adorable! Here, try my headscarf, bro."

"Oh, and hey, you don't have to be a girl or a boy if you don't want to. You can be who you want. I use They/them as my pronouns but I answer to anything."

"DZAAAA!"

"I think we look just alike. You can wear my apron. I LOVE your pointy teeth!"

"DZAAAA."

Throw in a cute wig, and Presto!

I want to name her Mona after Nimona. Or maybe Ni after Nimona. But there's some solid Nimona energy here.

Impldoll Aurora War of Future

She's on the Idol "70" cm body, but on the right is the 65 cm Star MGB body. They are identical in height. Looks like the hard cap on 65 cm for female BJD bodies continues.

Box included 2 wires of identical length (for arms and legs).

The bottom torso part is one solid piece, and this cap is glued on. To wire the doll, I had to restring it.

To get the elastic through the knee joint (with the wire), I lifted the joint up and turned it sideways, and then pulled the elastic tight so it would fit through the channel.

Wiring made the body sit and stand more firmly, but as you can see from the knee joint, posability didn't really improve (the knee joint popped out of the thigh). Wiring also gave Aurora a gangster sitting lean. Hot glue worked better for the MGB body, but bending the knee in this position also knocked off all of the hot glue.

Solid stander.

BIG neck gap. This is not a hybrid - it's how she fit out of the box.

My sewing projects over this week. I always beat myself up for not being more productive - I only made the purple bodice and the "skirt" this week. It's less about I must be productive so I have worth and more wanting to do things but being disillusioned by how long it actually takes me. My job is only part time but being in nearly every day is taking a toll. My only day off this week is Thursday - when I have a dental appointment. So much of my time is taken up by stuff I don't want to do I get frustrated when I have so little to show for the time that is mine. I guess I just need to get better at time management.

Finally got around to painting my Teth and Oraru heads by jj.doll.lab

Both heads are SD and 3d printed. Their bodies are by Impldoll (Oraru is in the muscle girl body)

Both have been dyed by me.

Oraru (orc) has been named Naznaga, Naz for short. Her outfit excluding her shoes are hand made including the axes. (Wig is a WIP and might be switched out to a less orange red)

Teth (cyclops) has been named Nyx. Her wig is hand made but her current outfit is all store bought. She is however reping the Dollcon Dallas shirt.

Both girls will eventually have a roller derby outfit. Currently figuring out helmets.
