Apparently her audience was about 20 people, mostly folks who showed up to protest her. A credible "threat" meant that the local pigs got to swarm around her for security theater plus a chance to try out their new drone (sadly it landed safely).

The fact that the school not only cancelled a career-spanning exhibition three years in the making by Samia Hallaby, a distinguished artist who was the first full-time woman professor at the Yale School of Art, but also suspended professor Abdulkader Sinno, who helped a Palestinian students’ union host an event by a former IDF soldier who has been publicly critical of Israel, is a total co-inky-dink and nothing at all to do with IU's systemic oppression of a voice for, or presence by, Palestinians at their institution.
Said a spokesperson for Indiana University, "Academic leaders and campus officials canceled the exhibit due to concerns about guaranteeing the integrity of the exhibit for its duration."
Wow, that is just so considerate of IU.

“With the show canceled at the eleventh hour, the museum walls will lay bare for more than six months”
This story makes me so angry. I know it’s comparatively minor when you consider all of the other ways we’re failing Palestine, but to silence their art? Samia Halaby (a Palestinian and alumni of the school) had planned an art exhibit with Indiana University for three years in advance. IU recently canceled it because of "safety concerns", despite absolutely no evidence that there is any threat to safety. Samia Halaby has been a vocal supporter of Palestine, including three years ago when this exhibit was planned. This article has a link to a petition going around to try and get the exhibit reinstated.
Art is a fundamental part of culture. It is a fundamental part of protest. Even if the art was not specifically made for the purpose of protest, it is a part of a culture that Israel is fighting to kill.
It's not enough to silence the genocide. It's not enough to silence the journalists. It's not enough to silence the atrocities. It will only be enough when every Palestinian is silenced.
The school tries to tell us that this is about safety, it's about antisemitism, but the art exhibit has nothing to do with the conflict... except that it's made by a Palestinian.
And this has never been about anything other than silencing Palestinians.

News of the Halaby show’s cancelation at Indiana University became public as the school was already facing scrutiny. On Wednesday, the Herald-Times reported that the university had suspended professor Abdulkader Sinno, who helped a Palestinian students’ union host an event by a former IDF soldier who has been publicly critical of Israel. The university’s vice provost reportedly claimed that Sinno had not obeyed standard procedure when he aided in the organization of the event. Sinno told the Herald-Times that the school’s suspension of him was part of an effort to “chill academic freedom and legitimate free speech on Palestinian human rights.”

Around this time nine years ago I had the chance to go see Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's La Bayadere, and now I'm about to watch Indiana University's re-imagined version, "Star on the Rise"! The first performance starts in about 10 minutes and there are two more shows tomorrow at 2:00 PM and 7:30 PM ET. Looking forward to it!

TW: discussion of transphobic bullying, attempted suicide.
Pretty fucking ironic that a university known for its school of medicine and its statewide healthcare system doesn't seem to actually give a damn about the health and safety of its most vulnerable students.
Remind me, how many years in a row has this campus earned a 5-star rating from the Campus Pride Index?
