So, I've been working on the main character of the game for a good while now. This here is Dominic! name may change later
And this is how he started. I'm no master when it comes to modeling robots but I decided to get the proportions and basic idea down with a rough sculpt.
Rest is history retopology.
I ended up not liking the original design's face colors so I made him cuter with... white irises? It somehow works.
I made it so that the player appears behind the bush whenever you walk above it at a certain point! because of that the enemies now do target the player's feet to attack, but ehhh i'm not gonna shame them for it.
Okay last experiment before I put it to one side: preset length single-char babbles that don't last the whole dialogue, which change pitch depending on emotion, can alter char to suit different npcs better (like S for snakes). Just need to differentiate the emotions more.
I saw someone be like "It's still as good a time as ever to take a risk and make your indie game into a breakout success, just look at Lethal Company!"
Let's just be clear that "massively unpredictable viral success making an ungodly amount of money" does not equal "realistic and attainable benchmark" for almost any other indie dev.
