#new entry in the joys of homeownership #on monday a semi truck tried to drive down the street in front of my house and in the process #managed to rip out the power lines connecting my house and my neighbors house to the utility poles #so we were completely without power for about 36 hours #while we each had to hire an electrician to come out and repair the damage #and then get a code inspector to come verify everything was done properly #before the electric company would reconnect us #so that's another 1k that i owe my mom #i realize i am very lucky she was able to help me out #but i still owe her money from back when fairfax had to go to the emergency vet in february #at least next month we get 3 paychecks instead of the normal 2

I'm dealing with all the flashbacks too. All that slow-burn, those sweet moments, the subtleties that scream romance...just to end it like that. What really doesn't help is, with the way they built up the angst in the last episodes, I thought they'd TRY to do a plot twist and save the day. Such a letdown 💔 Like, maybe I get what they were trying to go for with that, but in a rom-com??? Just...no. They deserved so much better.

So, yeah. I still can't think about it without ranting. Mainly coping with that and humor 😂 We'll get through this ❤

That being said, Taec's acting was gorgeous in the last episode. Just...ouch 😭

Now we just need to pray Taec's next drama has a happy ending 🙏

Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency

I’ve seen numerous Joseon K-dramas with all the royal rumble. Flower Crew is one of the few with an interesting storyline. It still links to the Joseon royalty (they’re always full of political and romantic drama anyway), but a marriage agency? Oh wow! Arranged marriages are nothing new in that period, but the fusion concept is at least refreshing for an overused historical period.

(Secret Royal Inspector and Joy, as well as Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung, are in the same "oh wow" league.)

Secret Royal Inspector & Joy - 8/10

I was in the mood for something light after watching Gyeongseong Creature and this show definitely delivered on that front. Like almost all dramas set in the Joseon era, there is palace intrigue and an Evil Minister, but the show doesn't ever take itself too seriously. It's not trying to be a Serious Show portraying things with Historical Accuracy, so if you go into it knowing that, I think you'll enjoy yourself.

The title characters are Yi-eon, a public service worker who dreams of opening a dumpling restaurant but he's been appointed to be a Secret Royal Inspector, and Jo-i, a divorcee who wants stand on her own two feet and learn how to live a life of happiness. Together they fight crime take down corrupt officials.

Like, HONESTLY, the details of the show don't matter all that much. The plot is not pretty standard. A Corrupt Minister is doing some Bad Shit and must be stopped. What's fun about the show is the cast of characters and how unseriously the show takes itself. It's not trying to be a thoughtful exploration on class in the Joseon era. It's just a fun romp with some cute romance thrown in there.

I think what keeps the show engaging is the world the writers have built. The secondary characters are fun and add dimension to the show. Even of the side of the Baddies, there are some secondary characters that really add a lot. Without the secondary and tertiary character, the show would fall a bit flat, imo. It's not that the leads aren't likable. They are! The romance is cute af, but the minor characters elevate the show.
