I think Intern Kareem deserves a lot of respect for lasting the most time (as an intern) and for dealing with quite a lot of Cecil's loveable bs during that time

So Let’s Cast the Night Vale TV Show - Part One, The Radio Station and the Science Lab
Hello all and welcome to a series I’m calling So Let’s Cast the Night Vale TV Show, in which we create a fancast for the night vale TV show. I’m going to do this in multiple parts, but I’d like everyone’s input, because my opinion is just my opinion.
First things first - in a perfect world, all the amazing voice actors could play their respective characters, but that’s very unlikely. Some of them aren’t screen actors, some of them don’t fit the canon ages or descriptions and some were just once-off guests.
I’m not going to recast Cecil and Carlos. Cecil because I don’t think they’d make the show without Cecil Baldwin, and Carlos because I personally think Dylan would be down just because of how much love he has for the show. And because I’m biased and I love him. Same thing with Kevin - as Cecil’s double, he’d probably be played by Cecil Baldwin but voiced by Kevin R. Free. If you have your own ideas though, you’re welcome to share them!
Lastly, I’m going off of appearance, age, past roles, and general vibes while I list my picks. I’m not intimately familiar with every actor I name.
If you want to add to this fancast, use the hashtag #nightvalefancast and maybe we can do polls or something.
Without further ado, let’s cast the radio station and science lab!
The Radio Station
For the interns, I tried to stick with people who are under thirty, since they’re mostly described as being around college-student age. You’ll notice there’s a lot of people from horror franchises; that’s because the interns are usually met with a terrible fate, so horror actors would fit well.
Intern Dana Cardinal: Originally voiced by Jasika Nicole. Fancast, Jasmin Savoy Brown
Tumblr media
Jasmin Savoy-Brown has had roles in Scream 5, Yellowjackets, Grey’s Anatomy, and more. She’s very talented, and she’s also queer! I think she’d bring a lot of the perseverance Dana has to life, based on her role in Scream.
Intern Maureen: Originally voiced by Maureen Johnson. Fancast, Maya Hawke.
Tumblr media
I mean, come on, do I need to say anything more? With her iconic role in Stranger Things, her brief stint in Fear Street, and recently Do Revenge, she’s worshiped by lesbians everywhere. She’s also a singer, which would be cute because we could see her and Michelle duet! She’s got the spunk of Intern Maureen and honestly please just give me Maya Hawke as Maureen I’m on my knees begging please please please.
Intern Chad Bowinger: Not voiced. Fancast, KJ Apa
Tumblr media
HEAR ME OUT! Riverdale wasted this man, but he is actually quite a good actor, and he deserves the chance to go batshit unhinged like Intern Chad calling an evil beagle. Also, intern Chad disappeared into a used sporting goods store. Sports = epic highs and lows of highschool football. Okay bye now.
Intern Kareem Nazari: Voiced by Adal Rifai. Fancast, Nik Dodani
Tumblr media
He was in Escape Room, a Blumhouse horror film. He was in The Owl House, a series beloved by Tumblr. And he was in Dear Evan Hansen, one of the most terrifying movies to be released in the last decade. With Kareem getting more prominence in the podcast, I bet he would get a bigger role in the show, and I think Nik Dodani would do a great job.
The Scientists:
They only appear in brief mentions throughout the podcast, and in larger roles of It Devours! I tried to cast people in their thirties and forties; people who could conceivably have a master’s degree, and who seemed like they’d look good in a lab coat.
Nilanjana Sikdar: Not voiced. Fancast, Vidya Balan
Tumblr media
Vidya Balan is a Bollywood actress, but I heard about her for her activism. She promotes body inclusivity and representation for fat actors and actresses, battling what she refers to as “the size zero standard” for Bollywood. She’s been acting since 1995, with an extensive body of work. She even hosts a radio show! With her grace and passion, Ms. Balan would make a great Nilanjana.
Luisa: Not voiced. Fancast, Melissa Barrera
Tumblr media
Another pick from Scream 5. What can I say, I really liked Scream 5. Not much is known about Luisa, but I personally imagine the Night Vale TV show as being split between Carlos and Cecil’s perspective. With that in mind, all of the scientists would play a much larger role than their brief appearances in It Devours! But that’s just me. Melissa Barrera is also Vanessa, and gave us “Usnavi all night you barely even danced with me” which is the best meme of the 2020s so far.
Mark: Not Voiced. Fancast, Ashley Zukerman
Tumblr media
To me, Mark was always the most generic of the scientists, no offense. He’s just some dude! He likes science and he does his experiments! Ashley Zukerman gives me the energy of “Just some dude!” but also brings an incredible presence to his role in Fear Street. He’s also been in Fear the Walking Dead, Succession, Designated Survivor, and many more. If they do flesh out the scientists more, he could be a good pick.
That’s it for now! I really want to hear your fancastings, and hope you’ll stick around for part two, where we’ll be casting the Palmer-Carlsberg family.

Tom Skinner — Voices of Bishara (Brownswood Recordings / International Anthem / Nonesuch)
Tumblr media
Voices of Bishara by Tom Skinner
Drummer Tom Skinner has risen to prominence in the last 18 months via The Smile, his new band with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood. However, he’s been a member of jazz/Afrobeat quartet Sons of Kemet for over a decade, plus he’s released a couple of colorful albums under the moniker Hello Skinny. Voices of Bishara is Skinner’s debut under his own name, which brings all of his experience to bear into a succinct 28-minute release. It draws primarily on jazz and instrumental hip-hop to create a mostly groove-focused listen that sporadically ventures in wilder, freer territories.
Before getting into the music itself, the story behind the album’s genesis is well worth recounting. Skinner and his circle of musician friends get together on a regular basis for what they call “Played Twice” sessions, in which they play a classic jazz album in full on the Brilliant Corners venue’s audiophile system, then collectively improvise a musical response. In the case of Voices of Bishara, the inspiration was Tony Williams’ album Life Time (Blue Note, 1964). Skinner’s ensemble, featuring Kareem Dayes on cello, Tom Herbert on bass, Nubya Garcia on tenor sax and flute, and Shabaka Hutchings on tenor sax and bass clarinet, recorded the album in a day, then Skinner got to work editing the results into the album’s final form.
“Bishara” is easily the disc’s wildest cut, prompting some cacophonous blowing from Hutchings. “The Day After Tomorrow” is also loose, but in a completely different way, its lugubrious threads of sax and cello perpetually unspooling despite Skinner’s drums attempting to bring them into check. “Red 2” mines a similar seam, but in a more sinister, glowering way, enlivened by some mellifluous flute playing. Elsewhere the focus is on Skinner’s tight beat making, which on occasion seems to have been cut and pasted after the performance into looped grooves. This is especially apparent on “Voices (of the Past),” which has the most obvious post-production input and features jazz guitar samples. The bass and drums on “The Journey” are largely unwavering in their focus, over which the saxes blurt pointillistic figures. “Quiet As It’s Kept” rounds out the disc nicely will some of the musicians’ most swinging and lively ensemble playing. Here’s hoping this is just the first of many releases for this musical collective.

Israel said its military launched a “targeted” operation against Hamas early Wednesday morning inside Gaza’s largest hospital, where thousands of Palestinians are believed to be sheltering. Conditions at Al-Shifa Hospital, which has run out of fuel and is no longer considered operational, have deteriorated rapidly in recent days amid intense fighting, with doctors warning of a “catastrophic” situation for patients, staff and displaced people still inside. Wednesday’s raid sparked international criticism. [...] Khader Al-Za’anoun, a reporter for the Palestinian news agency Wafa, described scenes of heavy fighting to CNN. “Explosions are shaking the buildings of Al-Shifa Hospital … which is besieged from all four directions, following the launching of rocket and artillery shells in the vicinity of the hospital,” he said in a text message. Al Za’anoun said Israeli forces had “invaded the hospital with large numbers of soldiers and military vehicles, including tanks, armored vehicles, troop carriers, and bulldozers,” adding they were preventing anyone from leaving. [...] CNN is trying to contact the hospital to speak to doctors there, but phone calls are not going through. Israel is under significant international pressure to prove their claims about Hamas’ infiltration of the hospital, in order to justify some of its military decisions, which could otherwise constitute a possible serious violation of international humanitarian law. There is no indication yet that troops have uncovered a multi-level tunnel structure with underground chambers of the kind illustrated in an animation presented by the army spokesman at a briefing almost three weeks ago. [...] Human rights bodies fiercely condemned Israel’s raid on Al-Shifa, as the World Health Organization and Palestinian health officials warned they have lost communication with staff inside the hospital. International pressure on the Israeli government has hardened in recent days amid accounts of dire circumstances at Gaza’s other fuel-starved hospitals, and severe shortages of food and water.
[...] People inside Al-Shifa have lost contact with other buildings in the complex, jeopardizing efforts by humanitarian workers and Palestinian officials to receive updated information about the catastrophic conditions faced by terrorized patients and medical staff. Omar Zaqout, the supervisor of the ER department, said people were sheltering inside the buildings and staying away from windows and doors. “We don’t know what is going on outside, all we’re hearing are explosions, gunfire, screams of older people and cries of children,” Zaqout added. [...] Zaqout, the director general of hospitals in Gaza, alleged the IDF interrogated medical teams, patients and their escorts. “Some of the escorts were forced to take their clothes off,” said Zaqout, who is not at the hospital but spoke to the doctors inside. IDF spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari claimed Israeli forces “include medical teams and Arabic speakers, who have undergone specified training to prepare for this complex and sensitive environment with the intent that no harm is caused to the civilians.” CNN cannot verify Hagari’s claims. For his part, Zaqout insisted that all the people inside the hospital are civilians. “The situation is currently horrific.”
-- From "Israeli troops and tanks raid Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital" by David Shortell, Helen Regan, Abeer Salman, Mostafa Salem and Kareem Khadder for CNN, 15 Nov 2023 4:39 PM EST
Al Jazeera has been told at 21:18 GMT that "Israeli forces have now entered the medical complex in Gaza City from its southern gate" by Dr Ahmed Mokhallalati, a surgeon inside the hospital.
