Dear Mr. Badge, have you seen the news about Evernote's new owner, Bending Spoons, just now laying off the entire remaining staff after a series of layoffs this spring? Hopefully it's not the end, but considering your extensive collection on the site, it might be good to verify if it is true and, well. Sic transit memoria interretis and all that.
Well shit, Anon, I had not, thank you!
Evernote has been through this before and it appears the layoffs are because they're relocating to Europe, but instability on any platform is generally cause for concern. It's a good idea in general to back up any archive you maintain online. Sic transit memoria interretis indeed.
I really only use Evernote these days for archiving fanfic and tumblr posts that I want to save, but that's not an insignificant body of work. I'm in the middle of backing up all of my evernote notebooks and if you guys use Evernote, you should too. That said, if you want a desktop-side, local version of Evernote, it's basically a clone of Microsoft OneNote, which I use extensively in my professional life, since it's "notepad but you can tag it and also it autosaves". Do recommend if you can get your hands on a copy.
Otherwise, just remember: no website is eternal, and if the service is free, it's likely not permanent.

Okay, adding another tool to the Internet Trinkets pile; this is basically the VLC trick I posted but 1000x better.
A web-based social media video/audio downloader with no tracking, no ads, no foux de fafa!
Thank you to @lakefoundtheirexit who brought this to my attention in the VLC post replies! :D
You can download video and audio from a heck ton of social media sites like YouTube, Twitter/X, Reddit, TikTok, Vimeo, Twitch, Tumblr(!) and many more!
I would implore you to leave a donation when using if you can afford to do so!

Given Twitter’s nonsense, but even just internet in general, keep in mind that misinformation, especially pseudoscience, is more easily consumed and spread because reality is often more complicated and nuanced than can be explained in a short catchy tweet/post.

what do you think are the most important things to utilize if someone wanted to learn to amplify their tech-literacy/tech-using experience?
We all know about add-block and anti-tracker add-ons, I'm thinking things like using github for various things, downloading youtube vids using yt-dlp. etc. etc. Bonus points if you can drop guides/how-tos
Other examples are things you can do with word, like adding macros, etc.
Also, what are your favourite non-game programs and apps? This could be anything.
i'm hoping to get a list where lots of folks can add on so if you could reblog that would be awesome

Tumblr media
When diving into the vast sea of information on the internet, it’s crucial to start with a simple yet essential step: choosing between a Google search and type a URL directly into the address bar. Understanding the difference can significantly impact the efficiency of your online exploration.

Since you're a separatist, I feel like you should know about PeerTube. Basically, it's open-source code you can use it to host your own YouTube-esque video site, and even if you don't want to host it yourself, I want to get the word out. I'd like to maybe make a women's-only video platform with PeerTube, or at the very least, inspire someone else reading this to look into it. Hope you're having a nice day!
Here's the link to the PeerTube website, and its FAQ. It's also interesting to look into what Framasoft has to offer in general, especially regarding the goal of de-googlifying the internet.

in the barrier dispelling sequence, right when Frieren's finishing the cast, you can see 1 frame of Serie casting the barrier! It's like Frieren literally reversed the spell. ...Or maybe she spoofed Serie to get into the barrier's network...

A while back I finally figured out how to use UBlock's element blocker and promptly went mad with power. Just now I turned off all my extensions to debug something and realized how much more useable it made everything. As soon as I see something annoying I open the Ublock popup, select the element picker, click the annoying thing, and (most of the time) the annoying thing is gone forever and I never have to think about it. So here's my shameless ad pitch for things you can do with it, other than the default "block ads":
Remove all of the UI buttons that are definitely useful for someone but that you're never going to use in your life
Remove UI buttons you use only once, like "register"
Hide the "Posts +" button in tumblr
Clear all of the information your credit card website tries to show you that you don't care about so that you can focus on the couple numbers that you do
Send those pop-up "do you want to chat!" notifications to hell, where they belong
Remove various website overlays
Remove specifically the calorie numbers on food delivery websites
Hide the comments and recommended videos sidebar on youtube
Hide promotions that an adblocker doesn't pick up on because they're native
Hide your facebook newsfeed (if you just use it for chat/events/groups)
Hide discord's sidebar when you just need one channel open and don't want to be distracted, and then unhide it when you want it back
Get rid of distracting moving elements on pages
Hide almost all of the elements on twitter except the actual tweet, if you only interact with twitter via other people's links and don't want to be sucked down the rabbit hole
Generally hide "Related!" or "See also" or "You might like!" type distractions on sites where you only want to see what you came there for, not browse
Remove all of the news from weather websites so that they can actually do their job and show you just the weather
Remove the footer text on websites no one ever reads

Hey not sure if you heard, but Gumroad is banning adult content going forward! They are continuing in the long tradition of sites screwing over adult creators with no notice, warning, or concrete transitional period, so please feel free to let them know how you as a customer feel about that, their email is [email protected]
Anyway, I don't know how long it will take for me to find an alternative way to sell my stickers, so this might be your last chance to get some! Please have a look if you have been on the fence
Remember, fight for the internet you want!

Wondering if anyone would like a dedicated website (like a neocities/Carrd type deal) for my Internet Trinkets tag?
It’s mainly just internet tools, games, guides, resources, books and all kinds of links I’ve found to make the internet experience much more useful and fun, i.e, away from the nightmares of subscriptions, paywalls, hate and fear, as much as possible!
I’d want it to be like a little cornershop with the stuff you’d need, like milk and eggs and bread! Except in this context, it’s internet essentials and some stuff you didn’t think you needed, but do!
@good-morning-czernobog ‘s carrd as well as the likes of masterposts and websites like FrogLand have contributed to this idea, but I’d like some definite input from where this all started.
TLDR:
Want a website full of internet tools to make your life nicer?
Reblog are appreciated but no pressure ^^
