A Thousand Days With You
Summary: If Kagome knew that Megumi's guardian was a clingy, obnoxious sorcerer, she would have never insisted on that parent-teacher meeting. Somehow Satoru has suckered her into working with him at Jujutsu High. She only has one rule. Never get involved with a coworker. Too bad for Kagome, Satoru is keen on getting her to break that rule.
Pairing: KagomexGojo
"Megumi-kun," Kagome says with a sigh, "you can't go around beating up people. At the very least, not to that extent. Some restraint would go a long way." She leans forward on the desk, her hands clasped together. The rest of the students have long since gone home and it should just be her and Megumi-kun here at the school.
"Why shouldn't I stand up for those that cannot help themselves?" he mutters, with a frown on his face. Megumi stares out the window. His short, spikey black hair completes his brooding posture. "Wasn't taught to hold back for anyone or anything." His hands move into some gesture.
Is he making a gang sign or is it some weird stretching form?
A black dog emerges from Megumi-kun's shadow, followed by a white dog. Kagome grits her teeth. These dogs feel different from the monsters she encountered on her way to work this morning.
Calmer. Not bloodthirsty.
They rest their muzzles on Megumi-kun's lap. His fingers twitch ever so slightly. If it were another teacher, they would be none the wiser. Hell, they wouldn't have even noticed Megumi-kun making that weird gesture, but one thing is for certain, Megumi-kun can sense these dogs. They came from his shadow to boot.
Did he summon them? Is that why he moved his hands the way he did?
Kagome leans back in the chair and brushes her hair back with her hand. "When you say not to hold back for anything, do you mean those dogs by your side or the other creatures?"
His attention snaps to hers like a bowstring. "You can see them?" Now he openly pets the dogs at his side. "But how? I don't sense any cursed energy coming from you."
"I don't know anything about cursed energy, but I know with power comes responsibility." She levels him with a look. The kind of look she used to give to Shippo-chan when he would play pranks on the villagers. "Am I upset that you defended those students from their bullies? No. That's not why you are in trouble." She pauses. "At least not with me. The issue is that those students had to be hospitalized."
"Serves them right. They won't mess with Tsumiki and her friends again."
Kagome sighs. This kid is nothing but a big ball of negative energy. Could have something to do with that... what did he call it? Cursed energy? "Megumi-kun, you can't say you want to protect the weak and then hospitalize them. A part of being strong is knowing when to hold back." Kagome leans forward and lowers her voice. "Next time, just knock them out and be done with it. There's no need to make their injuries so extensive they have to get treatment at the hospital."
Megumi blinks. "Higurashi-sensei, you're strange." He chuckles and then seizes up. His body straightens like a rod as if the thought of laughing is forbidden. "Fine. I won't go that far in the future. Can I go now?"
"Nope," she replies just as cheekily. "I want to meet this person who told you not to hold back. Your father?" She turns away and logs into the computer. Megumi-kun is not actually her student, but all the teachers are afraid of him. Which is just ridiculous. He may be stronger than most, but he is still a student and needs just as much attention as the others. Even if he is pricklier than most.
"I'll call him," Megumi grumbles. "And he's not my father." He reaches into his pocket and starts speaking to the person on the other line.
Kagome's hand hovers over the mouse. Who knew Megumi-kun could be so agreeable? She puts the computer on sleep mode and brainstorms how she wants to tackle this when Megumi-kun's guardian - not father - shows up. These fights are nothing new. From what she has been told, Megumi-kun has been fighting other students for years now.
She has only been at this school for a little over three months now. Perhaps his guardian is more of a handful than Megumi-kun is. The other teachers practically begged her to talk to him instead of them.
The white dog moves away from Megumi's side and comes around the desk. Kagome tilts her head. Its ears are pointed forward, its tail is down, and its fur is relaxed. There is a red upside-down triangle in the middle of its forehead. Its yellow eyes stare at her. Kagome reaches out a hand and pats the dog on the head.
So soft.
"He'll be right here..."
"That's good. This shouldn't take much longer." Kagome smiles as she continues to pat the white dog's head. The black dog makes a noise of disgust in the back of its' throat and shoves the other dog's head out of the way. "Oh, you two are just some big puppies," she coos.
"Oi! Megumi!," a voice yells out.
Kagome stiffens. The energy radiating from this person is monstrous. Oppressive. Her own powers rise, but she quickly stuffs it back down. A fight is not what she needs, not when she asked Megumi-kun to bring this person here so they can discuss Megumi-kun not fighting.
If she picks a fight with this person just because their energy keeps trying to rile hers up, then she'll look like a hypocrite.
"Ah, you must be Megumi-kun's guardian. I'm Higurashi Kagome." Kagome stands and walks around the desk. She nearly falters. This man is tall, like freakishly so. His white hair is as pure as snow. If she didn't know any better, she'd think him a demon with how otherworldly his hair color is. Not to mention the raw, undeniable power he is radiating.
Also, who wears sunglasses indoors?
"Satoru Gojo," he quips, shaking her hand. There's a sting. She sucks in a shaky breath. Is this man looking for a fight? Her heartbeat is pounding so loud it feels like her bones are shaking. Kagome glances at Megumi-kun, who looks disgusted by the exchange.
How odd.
Kagome pulls her hand back and laughs it off. "Thank you for getting here so fast on such short notice." She walks around the desk and motions for Gojo to take a seat. The two dogs do not stray from her side. It's hard to tell what Gojo is thinking or looking with those dark glasses on his face.
"I was in the area." Gojo leans towards Megumi, who leans further away. If Megumi-kun leans any further, he'll fall out of the chair. "Who'd he beat up this time?"
Kagome presses her lips into a firm, disapproving line. The dogs nuzzle her arm. "Are you the one that told Megumi-kun not to hold back?" She also doubts he was just in the area. Even if he were down the street, it should have taken him far longer to arrive than he did.
"Why should he hold back?"
"Because he's stronger, much stronger, than the students he put in the hospital." Kagome empathizes the students, hoping Gojo-san has some empathy within him.
"She can see my divine dogs," Megumi interjects to which Gojo's lips curve into a smile.
"No shit? I've been trying to get a read on her, but even my eyes aren't sure what to make of her."
The two go back and forth as if she is not there. As if this is not a parent student meeting about Megumi-kun's behavior. Kagome clears her throat. She is not the one that should be up for discussion.
"Back to the matter at hand. Megumi-kun has promised to show some restraint in the future. We can't risk another incident like this." The or else hangs between them like a string. Fragile. The principal wants to expel Megumi and some parents want to take their kids out of the school because of Megumi's aggressive ways.
Not that Kagome blames the parents, and the principal has a responsibility for the safety of all the students, but...she'd hate for Megumi-kun to get expelled when they can just get to the root of the problem.
"Fuck that. Holding back can get him killed." Gojo waves a hand in the air and gags.
"I doubt holding back against normal humans will get Megumi-kun killed." This man is insufferable. "Like I explained to Megumi-kun, a part of being strong is knowing when to hold back."
Gojo quirks a brow. His powers rise and spread out throughout the room like a blanket. Kagome is over this man's shit. This time, she allows her own to flow freely. Gojo sits up straighter. There's a flush to his face that wasn't there before.
Crap. She didn't think it would hurt him. She let out just enough to warn him to back down. At least she thought she let out a small amount.
"Gojo-san," she starts. He holds up a hand.
"Satoru, just call me Satoru." His voice drops to a low baritone.
"You're disgusting," Megumi says, getting out of his chair to call his dogs back to his side.
Kagome furrows her brow. Did she miss something? Judging from the looks Megumi and Gojo- no, Satoru are sharing, she did.
"You know, it's weird that there are no curses in this school," Satoru says with a drawl. "I'd like to think it's because Megumi is here, but a school this size should have lots of them festering about."
"Curses? Is that what you call them?" Kagome worries her bottom lip. How much information is too much information? The man does not seem agitated by her refusal to be backed down into submission. If anything, he seems damn near giddy at the exchange. "Hmm, it could be because of the barrier I put up in the morning."
"Barrier?" His glasses slide down and striking blue peeks behind the lens. "That was you?"
She nods, hesitantly. "Students come to school to learn, so they can make something of themselves when they get out in the real world. Every student deserves to have a wonderful experience when they come here, so when I saw those monsters hanging off their backs and sucking their energy away, I had to do something."
"Normally a veil stops people from seeing what is going on inside, or prevents people from leaving, but yours does not do that. How strange."
"It's a barrier, not a veil. A barrier to keep the curses away. They typically burn away the moment the students step foot on the grounds." She shrugs. It's not that impressive. If Miroku could have lived to this time, he could do it too.
"How strong are these curses?" The man scoots his chair closer to the desk. His grin is wide, practically dripping with joy.
Kagome looks to Megumi for assistance, but the dark-haired boy is more interested in giving his dogs belly rubs.
"I'm not sure?" Kagome swallows. Why does she get the feeling she is walking into something she really does not want to get involved in? "Is there a grading level to curses?"
Satoru giggles. "You know, Kagome, I'm a teacher myself. Megumi here will go to Jujutsu High after this."
"No."
"No?" He frowns. "You don't even know what I was gonna say."
"Probably something about getting me to join this sketchy high school." Kagome stands, wipes her hands on her black pencil skirt, and holds out a hand towards the door. It's overdue for them to leave so she can head over to the shrine. She promised gramps she would stop by after work and help sort through the inventory.
Gramps is forever picking up stuff he has no business collecting. Like those weird, grotesque fingers. If anyone were to raid that shed, well, they would think gramps was into some cult like activities.
"There's other students out there like Megumi that could use someone like you at the school," Satoru says, standing up.
Kagome nods her head in acknowledgment. She is sure there are other kids out there, like Megumi, that have far more abilities than their peers. Her shoulder brushes against Satoru. His hand wraps around her wrist, stopping her in her place.
"What are you doing?" She whispers, not sure if she needs to defend herself or not.
"How did you touch me?"
"You're touching me." She jerks her wrist free. This man has lost his mind, and he expects her to believe that he is a teacher too?
"No. No. I meant earlier." He shakes his hand and puts his hands up in a surrender pose. "Touch me." He says one thing, but his lips curve into a downright sinful smirk.
Kagome looks up at the ceiling and counts to three. Why is she even entertaining this? She places a hand on his chest. The dark material of his work uniform is softer than it looks. "Are you happy now?"
"Not sure yet."
Megumi walks over to them. "You shouldn't be able to touch him is what he's leaving out." Megumi holds out a hand, but it never reaches Satoru.
Kagome blinks. Looks at her hand still firmly on Satoru's chest and then back to Megumi's hand that doesn't reach Satoru.
These two are playing a trick on her. Kagome takes her hand off of Satoru and instead wraps a hand around Megumi's outstretched arm and tugs it forward, but no matter how much she tugs, his hand does not touch Satoru.
Is it because she is a priestess or is it because she is the Shikon priestess?
"Why don't we pretend like none of this has happened and Megumi-kun keeps his promise to take it easy on the other students from now on?"
"What? No way." Satoru throws an arm around her. "At least come check out of the school and let me know what you think. I promise the school can pay you way more than what they are paying you here."
"I don't work here for the money." She and Sota are well off thanks to the shrine and the investments their mother made for them. Kagome works here because sowing into the lives of others is far more fulfilling than working a normal cubicle job.
"Your talent is wasted here. There are other students like Megumi-kun who could really use someone like you around. They are struggling. Some of them might not understand why they are different from the other kids around them. Some of them may come from families that don't have the same powers they do. I'm not saying you have to commit to it, but at least check it out, because it would make a difference for them."
Damn it. Why did he have to go and phrase it like that?
Kagome sighs. Damn her stupid big heart, always getting her into situations and her equally stupid big mouth. She should have pretended to not know about Megumi-kun's dogs.
"So, it's like a kitsune school?" Kagome ducks out from under his arms and goes to retrieve her bag. Guess they are all walking out together since Satoru is so dang insistent.
"Uh... yeah?" Satoru takes her bag from her, ignoring her noise of protest. "I can just warp us all there. Be faster and all."
"So, you weren't nearby." Megumi crosses his arms. His dogs slink back into his shadow as quickly as they came.
Satoru ignores the comment and reaches out a hand for Kagome to take. "You ever teleport, Kagome?"
Megumi takes a hold of her other hand and lets out a loud sigh, clearly exasperated by the whole situation.
"Just once," she replies, right before the school disappears and her feet touch the ground of somewhere new. Kagome blinks. Where the hell was the warning? Her stomach churns.
"Eh, can you teleport too?" He lets go of her hand and bends down so his face is closer than it should be.
"No, but I was with someone that could."
"With them? Or with, with them?"
"With them?"
"Why didn't you drop me off at home?" Megumi mutters, stalking away. "Gonna be sick to my stomach."
Now that Kagome knows who Megumi-kun's guardian is, she understands why he is so angry. This Satoru is a lot to handle. He has no sense of personal space and just does whatever he wants. It could be because of the power he wields.
"So, where are they now? Could use some more sorcerers on the field," Satoru says, bringing her attention back to him.
"Not in this world."
"Sorry, I didn't know they were dead." Satoru grimaces.
"I never said they were dead." Kagome tries to take her bag back, but Satoru dodges her attempts. Instead, he places a hand on her lower back and ushers her forward. This school feels more like a university campus than a high school.
"Not dead, but not in this world."
"Something like that." Kagome bites her tongue. Stop saying stuff! The last thing she needs to do is let it slip about the demon realm. They walk until they come to a group of students sparring. Kagome places a hand over her brow to block out the sun. Is that a panda fighting?
She pinches herself. Nope, this is definitely still the human realm.
"Yep, he's a student too," Satoru answers. "C'mon I haven't shown you the dorm rooms yet."
So, this is like a university then.
"Do the students have to live on site to attend?"
"Yeah, builds community, and it is safer here on campus. There is a barrier in place, so if any curses try to get in, then an alarm will go off. Can't say the students would have that security back at home. Some of them can't go back because their clan sucks, others might come from a family that isn't a part of the jujutsu world, and some of them may have been rescued from mental institutes."
"That's really sad," she mutters as she tries to keep up with his long strides. Her heels are noisy on the hardwood floors. If she had known she'd be doing so much walking today, she would have opted for flats. "So, as Megumi's guardian and the teacher of this school, are you the guardian for the rest of the students?"
"Oh, no." He laughs, slowing his pace down to match hers. "Megumi is a special case. I took him and Tsumiki in." He continues to show her around the campus, which really should not be this huge. At this rate, her legs will give out before she reaches the third step at the shrine.
Sesshomaru and Inu would give her so much shit if they saw how lazy she has become in the modern world. Maybe she should take some time off and visit them in the demon realm. Get back to being around danger and hone her body again. She flexes her fingers at her sides. Her spiritual powers are fine, stronger even, but her body has forgotten what it is like to walk from village to village in a day's time.
"Alright, have you made up your mind yet?" Satoru asks, once they reach the end of the steps. He takes his sunglasses off and lets them hang from his jacket.
Her breath hitches. Why is he hot?
Kagome takes a step back. Distance between them is what she needs, but Satoru is keen on invading her personal space. "I'll think about it. I'm not sure what I can do here since I don't have this cursed energy you all have."
"Doesn't matter. Whatever you have can take out curses, and that's good enough." He wets his lips as his eyes dart to hers. "How about I give you the weekend to think it over?" He's closer now. His cologne is rich, warm, and far too intoxicating than it should be.
"That's reasonable," she amends. She'll just make an impromptu trip to see Inu and Sesshomaru. They might have some advice on the situation. Though on second thought, they'll more likely to try to convince her as to why she should cut all human ties and stay there with them instead. "I guess I'll see you at the school on Monday?" This time, Satoru hands her bag over, though his hand lingers on hers.
He sends another sharp jab at her. Her powers send another jab back in warning. The smile he blesses her with should be illegal. Does he like it when she zaps him? Her brows furrow together. She sends another tentative zap and his whole buddy shudders.
Ookay, guess he does like it.
Past experience tells her she should run away now, but her feet stay frozen to the ground. Even if she were to run now, she has no idea where they are. Heck, are they even still in Tokyo? Kagome wrestles with herself. She's probably going to regret this.
"I might need a crash course over this whole curse business."
His smile grows bigger, so big she can make out his dimples. His blue eyes are glowing with mischief. She really, really should walk away and put this encounter behind her.
"Don't worry, Gome-chan, I'll break ya in."

been struggling with finding any inspiration this week to write, but this little soulmate one shot came to me in a dream, haha. now, i can get back to writing smut, muhahaha. enjoy lovelies!💕
“Ah, it seems Lord Kouga and his mate, Lady Ayame, have invited us to the Summer Solstice Festival this year to welcome their first litter of cubs.” Lady Izayoi hummed, flitting through the stack of letters as Prince Inuyasha rolled his eyes. Their home always stinks. Maybe I can come up with some kind of excuse to not go.
“Son, do not roll your eyes at your mother.” Lord Toga pursed his lips without ever looking up, continuing to write out responses to the never ending letters and proposals from various kingdoms. How did he..? “And you are coming, no excuses.”
Sighing, he crossed his arms and slid father down his seat, catching his brother’s smirk. Bastard.
“Inuyasha, maybe this time you will finally get to discuss things with Lord Koga.” Inuyasha wanted to swipe the knowing grin off his face, but clenched his jaw instead. The last time he brawled with his older brother, the asshole almost put a gaping hole in his gut.
“Sesshomaru, stop teasing your brother. You will be attending as well and I expect you both to be on your best behavior.” Toga looked up, giving both of them a stern look that said “If you don’t, I will be the one to punish you.”
“Yes, Father.” They replied in usion.
“Sesshomaru dear, how is Kagura?” Izayoi smiled, her tactic of changing the subject relieving to him. Inuyasha glanced down at the small stack of invitations in front of him, the idea of reading each one exhausting and tedious. It was debut season and while he himself had been announced years ago, many courts were reaching out with their own invitations and secretly hoping he would choose their princess as a bride.
“She is doing fine, resting as much as possible. I expect her to give birth in two month’s time.”
Inuyasha tuned out their conversation, gazing out the window. It was nearly sundown and Miroku and Sango should be back soon, after visiting her family for the day. His cousin had managed to find his soulmate pretty early on and even though Sango was hesitant at first, Miroku never strayed. The monk’s still a flirt, but he’s loyal to her.
Hell, his parents and even his brother and sister-in-law were soulmates. While it was a little different for demons, they had mates. Someone they could bind their life span to, a bond that couldn’t be ignored. He had even heard of mates sharing emotions and similar thoughts, that’s how strong the bond was.
He sighed, his heart aching for his own as he leaned on his arm rest, propping his chin up with his fist. Being a prince was great and all, his father encouraged him to learn about more than just the typical Lordly duties, and that he even declared Inuyasha could marry whomever he wanted, title or no title. Even with all of that, he was still the only one around that didn’t seem to have a soulmate. Maybe it was because he was a hanyou, he didn’t know. All he did know was that it was lonely sometimes.
A flash of dark hair, followed by the softest of giggles, appeared in his mind. Straightening, he looked around, his brows furrowed in confusion.
“Inuyasha, is everything alright?” Toga glanced his way, sealing a letter with the royal wax seal. Shaking his head, Inuyasha muttered he was fine, wondering just who that was.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three days passed and Inuyasha was still confused about the woman popping up in his thoughts at the most inconvenient times. First, it was her hair and laughter, then he swore he could smell her, the faintest scent of wildflowers fluttering across his senses. A brief glimpse of pouty lips or a cute button nose. Sometimes it would be a whisper of his name, causing him to shiver. It wasn’t until he saw her chestnut gaze while he was eating dinner with his family that he knew something was going on.
“Mother, can you tell me again how you knew Father was your soulmate?” He prompted, taking a bite of the garlic chicken.
“I’ve told you that story about a dozen times and you still don’t remember?” Izayoi giggled as Toga patted her hand, proudly smiling.
“Can you tell me once more?” He asked once more, earning looks from everyone.
“I would love to hear it as well, Aunt Izayoi.” Miroku added and Rin agreed, her little smiling dazzling.
“Of course dears, let me start at the beginning. I was enjoying a lovely afternoon in my garden at my Father’s palace. You all know my dear husband was traveling back and forth between Lady Kimi’s home and our own, discussing matters about Sesshomaru when that very afternoon, I found myself staring into the koi pond with the brightest of golden eyes staring right back at me. I thought I was dreaming!” She laughed, Kagura and Toga smiling at her. “It took me a minute to realize that I wasn’t staring at my own, but his. That was the first time I knew my heart belonged to someone else’s.”
“Now, the thing is, human’s eyes rarely have any strange color, so I knew this man wasn’t human, but I didn’t care. From that day on, I searched everywhere I went for golden eyes. After about a week, I saw flashes of silver as I looked in my reflection, but I never stopped searching.” She continued on, “I found out later, I usually saw images of him whenever he was close, as he would fly over my home whenever he was traveling.”
“I also saw flashes of her in my mind as well, but it took me a little longer to put two and two together.” Toga chuckled, intertwining his hand in hers. “After a few months of traveling and getting Sesshomaru situated, my youkai would call out to her and it was then, I knew she lived in the village. The very next day, I introduced myself to her father, your grandfather, and he almost had a heart attack. He certainly didn’t expect for me, a Lord, to just show up unexpectedly.”
“You had the whole castle in an up heap. Servants were running around, trying to make sure the place was perfect for you.” Izayoi shooked her head, her childlike laughter filling the dining room. “When my father introduced me and I stepped into the throne room, it was as if nothing else mattered. I felt myself being pulled towards you and the moment I looked into your eyes, I knew you were the one for me.”
“And you are my heart, tsuma.” Toga smiled, leaning down to give her a small peck on the cheek. “Son, why do you ask?” Here goes nothing. Taking a shuddering breath, Inuyasha met his brother’s gaze and when Sesshomaru nodded, he spoke.
“I think I’m beginning to see my soulmate.”
“Seriously?” Kagura and Sango asked at the same time, Inuyasha nodding silently.
“Oh my!” Izayoi gasped, while Miroku grinned. Sesshomaru even smirked a little, but Inuyasha knew it was his way of showing his affection.
“This is something to celebrate.” Toga announced, holding up a cup of wine in congratulations. “Do you know who she is?”
“If he did, I think he would know, dear.” Izayoi smiled, patting his arm.
“I don’t. I keep seeing flashes, not like in the mirror like you did and my demon keeps urging me to find her, but I wouldn’t even know where to look. It’s always at the most inconvenient time too.” He sighed, shaking his head sadly.
“It may not be a distance thing as theirs was, but you could have a stronger connection to feelings. I can always feel his emotions, even if he resembles the ice king.” Kagura pointed to her husband, smirking. She isn’t wrong.
“Or, it could be a physical touch thing. I wasn’t even sure Sango was the one until I held her hand.” Miroku chimed in, earning an eye roll from his wife. Lecher.
“Just don’t go around groping every woman’s behind who looks like her.” Sango glared and he had to shake the shiver threatening to crawl up his spine. She was strong enough to take him down on one of his good days.
“So what do I do now?” Inuyasha groaned after a thoughtful moment, his mind filled with way too much information for his liking.
“It will happen when it’s supposed to happen. Don’t try to force it, darling.” Izayoi smiled sadly, everyone nodding along.
Inuyasha let out a deep breath, one he didn’t realize he was holding and looking down at the half eaten plate of food. I hope it happens soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The days passed in a blur, more images filling his mind. At night, whenever the moon was high in the sky, he found himself watching it with a new mindset, more than once the idea of running through the meadow underneath the stars filling his thoughts. As he and his family were preparing for their visit to Wolf Clan, a new image flashed across his mind, making him pause in his packing.
Looking out towards the courtyard, he could’ve sworn he saw a pair of blue eyes staring back at him from the reflection in the mirror. I thought she had brown eyes? Shaking his head, he wanted to scream and call out for her, his demon growling when her image disappeared.
Groaning in frustration, Inuyasha sank to his bed and laid his head in his hands. Why doesn’t she just appear in front of me? Am I seeing the wrong person or maybe she’s dead and reincarnated. I have this incredible urge to reach and protect her, but how am I supposed to do that if I have no idea who or where she is? Snarling, he swiped his claws across his pillows and grimaced at the torn fabric. Great, now Mother will scold me for ruining another pillow.
Sighing, he closed his eyes, willing her to appear and shook his head as he was met with darkness. I better get finished, we should be leaving soon.
After loading up the carriages, he found himself with Miroku and Sango and his Father, while Sesshomaru, Rin, Kagura and Izayoi followed behind in the second one. Kagura was growing bigger by the day and she wanted his mother and her husband with her as much as possible. He wasn’t surprised by her fear that something would happen, this being her first child and all.
“How are you doing?” Sango asked him softly, breaking him out of his thoughts.
“I’m alright, You good over there? Monk can’t be too comfortable on your shoulder.” He snickered as they hit a bump, a small frown of discomfort appearing on her face.
“He does better when he sleeps along the way.” She shrugged lightly. “Are you still seeing her?” He knew exactly what she was talking about and he nodded, feeling tired. It seems I can feel her now too. That has to mean I’m closer to finding her.
“I have faith, son. She’s probably just as eager to meet you as well.” Toga patted his shoulder and he nodded.
“There is something though. I thought she had brown eyes, but this morning I saw blue eyes. How am I supposed to find her if her eyes change colors?”
“Maybe she can change forms, like a kitsune. She could be a demon or a witch that can change how she appears.” Sango suggested, smiling sheepishly.
“Well that doesn’t help me one fucking bit.” Inuyasha grumbled.
“You know your mother doesn’t like that word. But Sango’s right. You don’t know if she is human or demon or anything in between and that won’t matter because you will know when you see her.”
“I just wished it didn’t have to take so long.” He crossed his arms and went back to staring out the window.
“Don’t we all?” Toga chuckled.
The hours passed by as the sun was just beginning to set, the royal family were nearing the Wolf Clan and their kingdom. Taking a whiff, Inuyasha tried and failed to hide disgust on his face at the stench, but whipped his head up when the faintest of wildflowers flitted across his nose.
Popping his head out the window, he saw a large group of villagers and what looked like a market. Sighing, he thought it was too good to be true and his nose was playing tricks on him again when his Father announced that they would be stopping to stretch and allow the horse a break.
Stepping out of the carriage, Inuyasha found himself looking around, nodding at the gaping villagers. This is the part I hate most about traveling. We are normal people like everyone else.
“Son, I think I smell some delicious food. Care to join me?” Toga asked, joining him at his side. “Kagura is craving some sort of spicy food and as much as I can’t stand the thought of burning my tongue, I told her we would search out something for her.”
Chuckling at his sister’s demand, Inuyasha nodded and together, they walked into the crowd. Frowning, he felt this pull towards a large booth serving some type of stew with noodles. Glancing at his father, he pointed his chin in that direction, his mouth beginning to water. What type of food is that? It smells fucking divine.
Arriving at the stall, he met an older woman with dark hair and one gray stripe appearing above her ear. She had kind brown eyes and a soft smile, reminding him of his mother.
“Hello, would you like a bowl of ramen?” She asked brightly.
“What’s ramen?” He asked.
“Here, why don’t you try some and if you like it, you can take a bowl with you.” She laughed, dishing out two small spoonfuls. Looking over at his father, who looked absolutely delighted as slurped down the ramen.
Raising the bowl to his lips, Inuyasha was surprised by how much he loved it. Grinning wide, he gulped down the remaining amount and together, they held out their bowls for more.
She laughed and he tilted his head, the sound familiar. There’s no way this woman is my soulmate. Looking at her eyes, he saw bright brown, but sighed when they didn’t match the beautiful brown he saw in his mind.
“Actually, would you mind if we took some back to our carriage? My daughter in law is carrying and I think this would be perfect for her.”
“Of course, I’ll dish some up for you and your children. How many bowls would you like?”
“I’ll pay for every pot you have!” Toga held out a small bag, the golden coins jiggling around. “Is this a family recipe?”
“Yes! My daughter Kagome makes this as often as possible, starting from scratch almost every week for market day. Speaking of, Kagome dear! Come out, there is another gentleman who would like to compliment your cooking.”
A joyful, proud feeling washed over him and he looked around, hoping he could see if his soulmate was near. It certainly felt as if she was near, her soft giggle echoing in his ears. The triangles twitched and flattened against his head when he didn’t spot her, straightening his back to introduce himself when the woman’s daughter stepped out from behind a curtain.
“This is my daughter Kagome.” The woman smiled, bringing her forward and Inuyasha breathed in the wildflower scent surrounding him. She has to be close, I can practically taste her.
“Hello, Kagome. My name is Toga and this is my son, Inuyasha.” Toga chuckled and stepped back. Frowning at his father’s odd behavior, Inuyasha turned to introduce himself, and he froze, his demon roaring at everything clicked. There, standing in front of him, stood his soulmate, with long dark hair in beautiful waves down her back, pouty lips, a freckled nose and the most striking pair of eyes he had ever seen. Blinking rapidly, he realized one was brown and one was blue, his world falling into place as her name was whispered into his soul.
Kagome.

Summary: Inuyasha goes into shock and dissociates after overhearing Kagome talking with her modern era friends.

Tumblr media
A hot clammy sensation washed over Inuyasha as he remained hidden atop the roof. Bile tickled the back of his throat.
It seemed stupid in hindsight. He thought Kagome was different. From the second he was capable of understanding, the message had always been clear. A villain. Someone whose very soul was diseased. Dangerous. Ugly. People did and would always hate him.
The worst part was he’d always known their reasons were valid and he completely understood why they hated him. He hated himself too.
And then came Kagome who smiled at him and planted seeds of false hope. She never talked badly about him. Not really and she defended him too. Sure, she’d insult him in her own way. To his face. Tell him he was an asshole and stubborn and other things. Was hurt when he did the things that made him unlovable. Particularly after events where he was reminded why he was unlovable. Whatever he was doing where Kikyo was involved was usually the culprit. No one cared about what she’d said to him. How badly he was hurting. His friends were only upset because Kagome felt betrayed. Someone like him deserved to be blamed. Didn’t deserve comfort. Because of who he was. Because how he was was unlovable.
Kagome tried to fix him and he was actually grateful that someone knew what needed to be done.
She alone had the power to make him into someone who was lovable. Attempted to carve out the undesirable traits. She said she didn’t want him to change, that she wanted him to stay who he was but…
She really didn’t mean it the way he wanted. She just didn’t want him to hurt people. Staying a half-demon was all she’d meant. She did want him to change in other ways but she was helping him with that.
All of which was fair. He did need to change his personality and make better choices. He’d let Kagome get hurt. Physically. Emotionally. She’d been hurt and he kept seeing Kikyo - the culprit - anyway. Chose Kikyo over his friends, God and everyone.
Because he knew he was unlovable and, despite who she’d become, Kikyo had once defied God himself. She had loved an unlovable boy. That miracle - however brief -shouldn’t be ignored. Should be rewarded in some way. Especially since she was being punished for her crime.
Over time, he’d started to believe Kagome loved him too. That his friends loved him. An ugly hope began gnawing at his gut. There were moments when he began to think maybe he wasn’t the broken one. Some part of him was lovable and the veritable thousands who’d come before had been wrong.
‘You don’t have to put up with abuse from that guy. From what you’ve said, he’s…’
The first time he’d heard it Inuyasha’s heart had stopped beating. The blood in his veins grew cold.
‘Violent.’
‘Jerk.’
‘Two timer.’
‘Awful.’
’Abusive.’
Other phrases that made one fundamental truth very clear.
Kagome wasn’t different.
His mind had protested. At first. Bucked against the idea that he’d misunderstood. Kagome would never say anything like that about him. She wouldn’t betray him and she certainly didn’t believe he’d betray her. She didn’t really think…
But as the weeks went by, when he’d started to actually listen to how she talked about him to others, what she told her friends at school, the fundamental truth began growing on him like cancer until he was suffocating under the weight.
So he tried- oh how he’d tried - to project a different attitude when he’d met her friends face to face. He was pleasant. Quiet. Answered their questions and smiled and was personable even though anxiety that he was doing it wrong ate away at his very soul.
He was the person she wanted him to be and it had made Kagome happy. She’d been pleased. His heart had almost burst when he’d watched how happy and surprised she’d been that her friends had liked him.
Surprised…
Because no one should like him.
He’d begun eavesdropping whenever she went off with Sango and the fundamental truth grew heavier - refusing to be ignored. The way she talked about him. Like everyone had always talked about him but so much worse. Because she was honest. Every critique and observation was honest.
Because he was unlovable and she knew better than anyone why that was.
He never let her know that he knew where she really stood. The mask of confidence and happiness firmly locked into place after years of practice. And…
And even though her mouth told a different story, she made it clear she still trusted him. Didn’t complain when he sought out her touch for reassurance. Kagome didn’t move away when he protected his back with her body or hid behind her when Sango came for his head over something stupid. There were still moments…
Still some signs that maybe he’d misunderstood and it confused him. There was still a chance he’d misunderstood or that he could fix himself so she’d find whatever it was that Kikyo had once seen. Even in its smallest measure. Somewhere inside there was something good about him.
And Kagome saw it too. Sometimes. At a minimum, she saw the potential was there which was more than he could ever hope to receive…
He couldn’t lose that feeling. Not again. Yeah, sure, as recently as this morning she had been talking shit but most of the time she was a source of relief. Held him when he was at rock bottom and reassured him. Put in the work to change him into someone who might have a shot at normal. She wanted him to be normal. She was helping him.
Because Kagome was kind.
And he wasn’t.
That…that was something he should change. He should be nicer to people. Talk softly and gently. Like a hero would instead of acting like a villain. One thing he did have going for him were his suicidal tendencies. Not active or nothing but he was a little too comfortable with the idea of death. He really didn’t care one way or the other. That type of sacrificial and apathetic attitude was absolutely perfect for tearing who he was down and building up something more appealing. All he had to do was not be himself. Kill off the bad parts.
He just-
“Hey. Hey, can you hear me?” Kagome’s voice finally registered in his mind and through sluggish blinking, Inuyasha finally realized that she’d been talking to him. He raised his eyes and saw the others staring at him. Worry. They were worried. Why were they worried?
What happened?
Something gently brushed his cheek while a warmth squeezed his hand.
It was dark. Night time. Hadn’t they only just set up camp? They hadn’t even made dinner yet, huh? The small crackling fire casting shadows looked further away than he remembered.
The timeline of the day seemed really clear. That morning he’d gone to get Kagome. Tracked her to the food place she frequented. Listened to her talk to her friends about how awful he was and them telling her to leave. Kagome mumbled something about not having a choice and some other things too he couldn’t quite remember. She’d gotten defensive when she saw him waiting for her but also worried. It was the same look she got when he’d gotten one of his more gruesome injuries and it hadn’t made sense. He’d been fine. They’d come back. They stopped here. Set up camp.
Had something happened?
Maybe he’d gotten injured and hadn’t realized it. That would explain the look and why he couldn’t remember…
“What happened? Was I hurt?” Inuyasha asked in a strange voice as his mind struggled to make sense of this development and the looks of worry increased ten fold. Sango’s eyes bordered on terrified.
“No…” Kagome replied slowly and softly like she thought he was losing his mind, “Are you-“
Weird. He was being weird. He hadn’t meant to be. Kagome would want him to apologize for not listening to her. That’s what she would want and for some unfathomable reason, a compulsion to please her overrode his usual thought process.
“Oh,” he mumbled awkwardly, “Sorry. I guess.”
“Why are you apologizing?” Kagome breathed as both hands moved to cup his face and stroke his cheeks. When he simply seemed to zone out again, she did the only thing she could think to do.
She held him. Tightly. Pet his hair and, much to Inuyasha’s utter shock, she pressed her lips firmly against his temple. These tokens of affection weren't unwelcome. Weird maybe and meaningless but he wouldn't deny that her touch felt nice.
“You’re okay,” she whispered against his skin as her arms increased their pressure, “Come on. Why don’t we lay down, huh? Get some rest?”
What was wrong with him? Something was wrong. His mind felt…
His body wasn’t…
“Was I hurt?” he asked again - his voice sounding distant and odd. Kagome let out a shuddering breath before pulling back and bringing her face so close their noses almost touched.
There was something guilty behind her gaze. Apologetic and knowing.
“I think so,” she offered softly, “Really bad too. I think you might be in shock so why don’t we lay down, hm? We’ll talk more in the morning.”
Inuyasha’s amber eyes sluggishly moved towards the monk, slayer and kit who all looked confused. Like she was lying to him.
Except Kagome didn’t lie. She’d never lied.
“Hey Miroku. Can you get my sleeping bag and bring it over here?” Kagome asked without taking her eyes off his face. The monk jumped but did immediately move to do as he was asked. Sango looked like she wanted to speak. Her eyes wavering and her hand slightly outstretched like she wanted to touch him.
“Are you guys okay?” Inuyasha asked then as his mind slowly began working again - his voice still sounding weird to his own ears as he looked at Kagome again, “Was it bad?”
“Yeah. Yeah, we’re okay,” the miko promised as she gave him a sad little smile. Her eyes didn’t match her words though. There was pain in them. A lot of it.
“You’re hurt,” he stated more than asked as his eyes sluggishly began scanning her for injury, “M’sorry.”
Something behind her eyes shattered as she stared at him with unbridled heartbreak and horror. His own body felt heavier the longer he looked. He wanted to help her but for some odd reason, he couldn’t move. All he could manage-
“I’ll do better next time. I’ll protect you.”
It looked like all the air whooshed out of her body while the sleeping bag was laid down and the monk quickly unfurled it. Kagome gently took his hands which confused him and began tugging him with her.
“Come lay down with me,” Kagome murmured affectionately - the request strange and unexpected. Weirder still - when he complied without thinking and crawled in - she collected him against her. Arranged his face to rest just over her heart and allowed him to rest his body against her side. This too was strange but it was weirder that he just let her do whatever. Like he didn’t have it in him to fight.
Her lips pressed against his temple again and her fingers began massaging his scalp. It was nice and he found himself relaxing. His body melting into her hold while his consciousness ebbed.
“I’m sorry for what I said. I don’t have an excuse and it was wrong,” she whispered as her lips pressed against his temple, “I love you. So so much. I’m going to fix it. Set things right. I promise.”
That promise didn’t make sense. Inuyasha let out a soft grunt to appease her as he snuggled closer. This was nice. Didn’t make sense but being held like this was nice. Warm. Comfortable. Safe.
“M’sorry you got hurt,” Inuyasha mumbled tiredly as he lazily draped one arm across her waist and his breathing began to even out. Kagome tensed and he heard her swallow.
“Inuyasha. I love you,” she repeated - slower this time like she honestly thought he hadn’t heard her but people just said things like that sometimes when they were afraid and he already knew she cared. He must’ve been hurt really bad.
“M’sorry I scared you. I’ll be more careful,” he offered tiredly and suddenly Kagome was on her side. He was being pulled closer - his face now securely tucked beneath her chin.
“I love you,” she repeated breathlessly as she rubbed her cheek against the top of his head, “I am the only one who needs to be apologizing right now, okay? I am so, so sorry.”
This whole…thing wasn’t making sense. He was missing some crucial piece of information. He nuzzled her sternum as he began drifting off. Weird or not, being held like this was nice. Warm. Safe.
Kagome pressed her lips against his temple again and the scent of salty tears hit his nose. She must have been really scared. Whatever happened must’ve been bad.
“M’sorry I scared you,” he mumbled tiredly as he adjusted himself into a more comfortable position, “M’sorry.”
She simply held him tighter.
The next thing Inuyasha registered was the chirping of birds. That and the churning of his stomach like he was about to vomit. His chest felt tight too and it was hard to breathe.
The warm thing holding him in place stirred and something soft pressed against his temple.
“I love you,” Kagome’s cracking voice whispered and his stomach dropped as what his mind had been repressing rushed forward.
‘Sometimes I just really hate him, you know?’
A little bit of bile built up in his throat but he couldn’t find the strength to move. All he could do was remember how to breathe.
Kagome hated him. She hated him. He thought she was different but she wasn’t and at that realization, something cold settled in his gut. His body started to tingle and then went abruptly numb.
But he still pressed his face closer. Tried to find the reassurance he normally felt in her presence but failed miserably. Now the touch which grounded him only made him feel ill.
He felt Kagome’s chest shudder as the arm draped over her back pulled him closer.
“Inuyasha, I do not hate you. I know you must’ve heard what I said but I promise it’s not true. I do not hate you and I do not know why I said that. I don’t have an excuse,” she whispered in between soft shuddering sobs, “I nevershould have said that. I love you. I love you.”
The cold, nauseous feeling grew stronger than vanished entirely leaving him feeling hollow and empty.
“It’s okay,” he heard his voice answer in the weirdest toneless tone, “It’s okay to hate me. I get it. Don’t feel bad.”
A loud sob followed that statement but her tears didn’t make him feel any type of way.
He pulled back and effortlessly escaped her vice grip. An eerie strangled smile played on his lips that had her blotchy crumpled face look even more miserable.
“Hey. It’s-“
She dipped forward and pressed her lips against his. It took a moment then two and then he hesitantly pressed back if only to make her calm down.
In response she clutched at him and kissed him harder like she was trying to pour something into him. Like she was trying to make him understand something.
But he did understand. He’d always understood.
The kissing was starting to make him feel uncomfortable though. He wanted it to stop.
He scooted down to escape and moved back to his former position where he’d felt safe. Protected. Warm. Feelings that shouldn’t be there but existed nonetheless.
Broken. He felt broken. Like something fundamental had been stolen from his very being without him realizing it.
Life after that morning had been strange. Nothing seemed to matter and there were a lot of times he’d come back to reality not knowing where he was. His body acting on autopilot as he existed. His friends always seemed to be nearby and touching him in some way. Their backs against his. A hand on an arm or his knee. A few times he’d even come back to reality with his head in Kagome’s lap.
The others always seemed mad at Kagome too. Their looks of disgust and borderline hatred made no sense. She hadn’t done anything wrong.
“I will never forgive you for this,” he heard Sango hiss - the animosity and acid almost tangible.
“What happened?” Inuyasha asked in a small voice as he glanced between the two girls who jumped and whipped their heads towards him. They were so close he could touch them but he couldn’t seem to remember how he got here. Everything was a blur.
His stomach rumbled.
“Do we got anything to eat?” he asked quietly - the topic shift seeming to upset the slayer even more.
“We just made some rice. I’ll get you some,” Sango offered as she reached out and gently stroked his cheek, “Just stay right here, okay?”
He felt gross. Like he hadn’t bathed in days. Something was wrong with him. Something-
“Something’s wrong. With me. Something’s wrong, huh?” he whispered in a strange dissociated tone that didn’t sound like him.
Sango scoffed and rolled her eyes as she got up to fetch him food. Kagome looked even more miserable. She looked thinner too.
“You…you should eat too,” he continued to mumble as his eyes took in Kagome’s appearance, “You okay?”
Tears began welling in the miko’s eyes even as she gave him a reassuring smile.
“I’m fine. I am,” Kagome whispered hoarsely before moving closer and settling beside him. Their hips touched and her cheek rested on his shoulder, “I love you. More than anything.”
Those words sounded familiar. Like he’d heard them a thousand times but he honestly couldn’t remember hearing them before.
“You love me?” he repeated in a confused tone and he felt Kagome tense.
“Yeah. Yeah, I love you,” she sniffled as she let more of her weight sag against him, “You’re my favorite thing in the world.”
Inuyasha could feel himself breathing heavier as his mind struggled with this new information.
“You love me?” he asked again - his voice hollow and confused.
“Yeah.”
A small warm bowl was placed in his hands and his dull eyes lowered. Rice. He liked rice.
None of this felt real. Almost like he was in one of those dreams where he had some control but was simply watching from the sidelines.
“I love you too,” he mumbled back then - his voice not sounding like his own. The sentiment was real enough. Almost tangible. But here in the dream world it was safe to say it. Nothing could actually hurt him here.
“I know you do,” Kagome sniffled while her arms lightly circled his arm and squeezed. Closing his eyes, Inuyasha relished in the phantom sensation. A world where everything was okay and he was lovable. A world where he…
“You need to eat,” he heard Sango’s irritated voice huff before a glob of sweet rice was suddenly stuffed into his pried open mouth. The sudden and rough motion brought reality into sharp focus around him.
His own loud and heavy breathing rang out in his ear. The sudden trembling of his muscles physically hurt. Every minor injury - of which there were apparently plenty - throbbed and burned.
And his heart ached. All the pain he’d apparently stored away for a rainy day burst forth at once. He gagged. Once. Twice-
“Oh no-“
The limited contents of his stomach spewed all over the grass, in his food, on his clothes. His ears rang and his body convulsed as the torrent refused to stop.
He blacked out after that. Woke up in a dark room with wet hair and foreign clothes. He felt sore everywhere. He…
Something warm rushed over his face - tickling his skin and playing with his hair.
Opening his eyes was hard but he managed. Kagome…
She was asleep he realized. They were on a futon. A heavy blanket on top of their bodies. Her hand twitched against his neck where it’d fallen. She must’ve been stroking his face.
His lips twitched upwards as his eyelids fluttered closed. He moved his heavy hand to gently rest at the nape of her neck. Moved his thumb along her jaw.
She’d said she loved him, hadn’t she? That hadn’t been a dream. She loved him.
She loved someone who was unlovable. A soft disbelieving laugh bubbled over his lips. She never lied. She wouldn’t say that unless it was true.
She loved him.
‘So why did she say she hates me. She never lies,’ a nasty little whispered echoed in his mind and the good feeling was vanquished. He retracted his hand like her skin burned and the hand against his own neck was suddenly cupping his face.
“Inuyasha. I love you,” a tired voice whispered.
‘She never lies…’
The voice was louder this time and it stole the air from his lungs.
The thumb caressing his cheek paused.
“ I guess I lie sometimes,” Kagome’s voice whispered - sounding pained and unsure, “I do lie sometimes. I love you. I don’t hate you. I lied.”
Sluggishly, amber opened to find Kagome staring at him looking nothing less than heartsick and afraid.
“Why?”
He wasn’t even sure he’d said that aloud.
“I meant frustrated,” she tried looking ashamed and a little sick, “That’s not an excuse. I love you. More than anything. That’s the truth.”
Inuyasha knew he must’ve looked weary. Distrustful. Because her expression crumpled and she looked like he stabbed her.
“You don’t have to forgive me,” she continued thickly - a few tears welling in her eyes, “I don’t want you to forgive me. I just want you to smile again.  Be yourself again. I b-broke you-“
A strangled sob followed.
“I broke you,” she repeated as tears cascaded down her cheeks, “If you need m-me to g-go I will. Anything you want or need m-me to do. J-just tell me.”
Inuyasha couldn’t look at her anymore and clenched his eyes tightly shut.
“I’ll g-go,” she promised and he heard her sit up, “I’ll go.  J-just p-promise you’ll f-find a way to-“
Inuyasha’s hand shot out before he realized he moved and he tugged.
He heard her breathing hitch as he pulled himself closer then lifted his head so it rested on her lap.
Forgiveness.
Her fingers lightly brushed his cheek and a flicker of foreign reassurance washed over his sore muscles.
The sniffles continued as she pet his face and hair. With each gentle caress, Inuyasha felt more. Emotions, sensation, everything began trickling into his hollow body. He wouldn’t be himself again. Wouldn’t be whole. Wouldn’t stop getting locked away. Not for awhile but this was a start.
“I love you,” she whispered and a shuddering sigh of relief bubbled over his lips. Truth. That was the truth.
He wasn’t unlovable after all.

Faint little sounds began to sweep through Kagome’s consciousness as sleep began fading away from her. She tried her best to ignore it in order to continue sleeping longer, but the light, consistent tapping in the kitchen didn’t allow for such pleasures. Begrudgingly, she opened her eyes and allowed for them to adjust to the lighting in her bedroom. The window besides her bed informed her that the sun was almost done setting as the darkness of the night began to spread across the sky.
She pondered, confused at the difference of time; because she swore that it was still daylight when she had fallen asleep. Wiping her eyes to try to remove some of the exhaustion from her body, she let out a small yawn and stretched her tired limbs.
“Yer finally awake,” Inuyasha called out from the doorway with a smirk, “I thought ya died on me.”
Kagome groaned, too tired to think of a comeback and fell back against the mattress. “How long have I been asleep?”
Inuyasha sat down beside her causing the bed to dip a little, watching as her body immediately sliding a little closer to him due to gravity. “Four hours.”
Only her head lifted off of the bed as she looked at him with a perplexed expression, “What! I wasted the entire day sleeping?!”
The half-demon laughed and bent forward to kiss her forehead, causing a happy chirp to escape Kagome’s lips. “You were tired, babe. You deserved that nap.”
Her head flopped back against the bed as she sighed, “All because of my job!” She cried in despair.
As tired as she felt, she was glad that she could wake up to Inuyasha each time she fell asleep, he was a beacon of comfort and warmth for her. They both have come such a long way, especially with their insecurities and doubts that stemmed from their pasts. They were friends before they became lovers, and that’s what made the transition so seamless.
Kagome yawned again as she rolled closer to Inuyasha, her hands automatically moving to play with the tips of his long, silver hair. “Do you want to take a shower?”
Inuyasha’s cheeks flushed a light pink, “Together?” he asked shyly.
He looked like he wanted to agree, but outwardly agreeing to the idea of doing something like that sounded like a bad move.
“You look adorable like that,” Kagome cooed as she sat up on the mattress, “And yes, I want to shower together. We’ve both been working like crazy, and even though you practically live with me now, it feels like I’ve barely spent time with you.”
She was pouting at him and looking at him with those big. brown eyes and Inuyasha knew he couldn’t deny her of anything. On top of that, she was right; even though they were stillneighbors, and he stays over 99% of the time it’s been a while since they’ve spent time together. Kagome’s been receiving heavy workload at her job, and Inuyasha has been getting more customers than normal. It’s only been a few days, but it has felt like weeks since they’ve simply existed together.
“I-if you’re okay with it, then I’m okay with it.” Honestly, he had no idea why he was acting so flustered. They’ve been dating for months now, and they’ve been physically intimate before, what’s so different about it now?
Kagome squealed happily, “I’ll get everything ready, stay right here!” She kissed him quickly on the lips, too fast for Inuyasha to process the sudden impact, and wishing she could have stayed there and kissed him for longer.
He sat on her bed in awkward silence, fidgeting with his fingers as he listened to her humming from the bathroom. All she wanted was to shower together, nothing more, nothing less; and it’s not like they haven’t talked about doing this before. Kagome’s always wanted to simply take a shower with him, because it’s intimate and vulnerable and she likes being close to him in any way possible.
Inuyasha wants that too, because who wouldn’t want to shower with their beautiful girlfriend? It was just the implications of it all, and how exposing everything is. He’s gotten very comfortable with vulnerability since they’ve started dating, but sometimes a little bit of fear lingers within him, and he can’t stop it from bubbling to the surface.
“Inuyasha!” She happily called out, voice echoing beautifully from the bathroom, “It’s ready!”
He blew out hot air from his lungs and stood up, inwardly hyping himself up for this new moment between them. Trucking into the bathroom, his nose was immediately hit with the scent of vanilla and strawberries; Kagome’s signature scent. The sweet, gentle smell relaxed him somewhat as he watched his girlfriend turn on the shower to start heating up the water.
She noticed the stiffness in his muscles and the worried wrinkles on his forehead, “Inuyasha? Are you okay?”
The half-demon sighed and smiled at her, shy and gentle, and moved to hold her, “Just nervous,” he simply answered.
Kagome hummed before kissing the arm closest to her lips, “You don’t have to do this, you know?”
He bent down to kiss the top of her head before leaning his chin over it, “As nervous as I am… I still wanna do it.” His fingers began to tickle her sides, laughing at the squeaky giggles that escaped her mouth, “Just ‘cause I’m not scared of bein’ open with ya.”
Hitting his biceps as a desperate plea for mercy, all Kagome could do was wiggle in his grasp as she struggled to escape the nonstop tickling. “And I’m-not-scared-“ she gasped out, “Of-hitting-you! Please!”
Inuyasha continued to tickle her, grinning madly at how cute she looked, “Or what?”
“I’ll bite you!” She cried loudly, groaning in frustration when all he did was laugh in reply.
Immediately he stopped tickling her sides and cupped her face in between his hands and stared at her with a toothy smirk, “Yer cute.”
She pouted at him while trying to regulate her breathing, “And you’re annoying.”
“Oh Kagome, you hurt my pride. Whatever shall I do?” He complained in mock hurt.
She poked his belly and grinned when he yelped from the sudden pain, “Big baby.”
“Yeah yeah,” he dismissed as he touched the water, immediately pulling back his arm from the boiling heat that touched his skin. “That’s hot as hell! You shower in that kinda water?!”
Raising an eyebrow, Kagome placed her hand underneath the flow of water and sighed as it warmed her up. “I do, yeah.”
His eyes widened at her in shock, “Ya didn’t even flinch.” He watched her shoulders shrug, smiling at him sheepishly and Inuyasha chuckled. “What a woman.”
Kagome bursted out laughing and decided to lower the heat of the water a bit for his comfort, “Oh just take your clothes off already!”
Inuyasha snorted, immediately removing his shirt and moving to take off his shorts. “I thought you’d never ask.”
He removed all of his clothes and teasingly gestured for Kagome to do the same, wiggling his eyebrows playfully. It made her roll her eyes, pretending to be annoyed by his playfulness, but as she undressed in front of him she couldn’t help but blush at the sudden exposure of her body.
Really, he’s seen her like this before, but for some reason it felt more revealing and unguarded this way. Without the blistering heat of the moment, where they feel nothing but carnal desire and need for each other, it just feels like a higher level of intimacy.
She caught his golden eyes on her, scanning her body slowly, and her breath hitched. His cheeks were flushed red, and it spread down his neck and chest, making him look like a little tomato.
“W-want to go in?” Her voice shook, completely failing her.
He’s looked at her this way many times before, but there was a new intensity building up between them that she couldn’t quite grasp, and every time his auburn eyes gazed at her she felt like she was on fire.
“You first,” Inuyasha rasped out, totally taken back by her beauty. To this day he has no idea how lucky he got, finding someone as beautiful as Kagome both inside and outside. She was like a dream, a woman you picture in your head that wasn’t real, someone so beautiful and ethereal that if she did exist; she would be completely untouchable.
And yet, Inuyasha had the opportunity to love her every single day, and he took every single chance to do that because she deserves it.
Nodding in response, she moved the shower curtain and stepped inside, the steam from the warm water kissing her skin and leaving dew drops on its surface. Inuyasha followed in afterwards, immediately shutting the curtain closed to prevent the heat from escaping more than it already has. The water was hitting Kagome’s back like a relaxing massage, and her face was heating up thanks to the water and the look in Inuyasha’s eyes.
“W-what do we do first?” He stuttered nervously, quietly cursing himself from how lame he just sounded.
Kagome smiled shyly at him and shrugged, “We take turns under the water, silly.” Slowly, she backed up to get under the rest of the shower head and closed her eyes. Allowing herself to relax, and forget for just a second that her boyfriend was watching her underneath the downpour of water. She let the water engulf her, completely soaking up her hair and wetting her skin.
While she stayed underneath the rinse, Inuyasha stared in awe; as if he was watching a goddess bathe underneath a waterfall. She seemed too delicate to touch, and he felt like he was seeing something he shouldn’t be. This act of showering together was incredibly personal, because you get to watch your partner and interrupt their alone time. However, a shameful and selfish part of him loved this, because he loves every single part of Kagome; whether it is physical, emotional, or mental. Knowing she feels comfortable enough to do this, trust him enough to partake in this moment, and share a new experience with each other touched his soul.
She was this beautiful, sweet creature that deserves to be worshipped and cared for; and he will make sure he does that, because he loves her more than anything else in the world.
Kagome emerged from underneath the water and wiped away at her face to remove the water droplets from her eyes. Her gaze fell on his and she blushed again, totally forgetting for a moment that he was in here with her. She briefly wondered if he had enjoyed watching her shower, but immediately shooed away the lewd thought. That’s a question she would ask him later, right now she just wanted to focus on this shared moment with him.
“Your turn,” she smiled at him.
His hands wrapped around hers as he pulled her in closely, their bare chests touching skin to skin. He shivered at the feeling of the water from her body touching his, and she laughed at his reaction.
“S’not funny,” he growled as he bent down to kiss her, muscular arms suddenly wrapping around her back to keep her stuck to him. He felt her arms snake around his neck as she kissed him back, it was slow and lazy; but held the same passionate that all of their kisses held.
Kagome pulled away from his lips first, smiling at him slyly before turning them around and gently pushing him underneath the shower head. He jumped in surprise from the heat of water and coughed.
“Kagome!” He laughed, “What happened to you wantin’ this to be ‘cute and intimate’?”
She giggled as she leaned back against the wet tiles, “I’m sorry! I didn’t meant to make you swallow any water!”
Inuyasha pushed his bangs back and grinned at her, the little fangs poking out of his mouth making him look malicious. “Come here and I’ll forgive ya!”
She shook her head, biting her lip in response, “Nope!”
“Wrong answer!” He yelled, gently grabbing her by the waist and pulling her into the water. She squealed, giggling like a madman as she held onto him, trying not to choke on water as he kissed her face and neck.
“We’re gonna stay in here forever if this keeps up!” She laughed, holding onto his arms tightly to not slip.
“I don’t see a problem with that,” Inuyasha replied huskily.
She gasped as he kissed her above her chest teasingly, he made sure he didn’t move lower; as tempting as it sounded, he wanted to keep this moment the way it was. Whatever happens when they get out of here, they’ll decide on that later, for now; he just wanted to enjoy this.
“Okay, okay!” Kagome reasoned, “If we’re going to be in here forever, we need to start using soap.” She gently tugged in his ear, “Which means no more kisses until after we rinse it off of us.”
Inuyasha’s lips landed on hers, kissing her languidly and fervently. Her back arched and her toes curled at the sensation, making their chests touch once again from the movement.
He pulled away and smirked at her, “I wanna wash ya.”
Her breath hitched as she nodded, “O-okay,” she replied. “I was going to ask you to, anyway.”
She backed away from the flow of water and handed Inuyasha her shampoo and conditioner bottles. The white bottles looked small in his hands, and she couldn’t help but think about how cute he looked. He squeezed out the contents onto his hand and rubbed them together, vanilla scented shampoo immediately kissing their noses. He motioned her to turn around, and once she did, he began to gently rub the shampoo into her hair. His claws were so gentle in her hair, the motions he did with his hands felt like a massage. Honestly, she could fall asleep with the way this felt; relaxing and de-stressing. The moment was gone too soon as he tapped her shoulder and told her it was time to rinse it off.
While she rinsed, he watched in bated breath at the beautiful woman before him. Truthfully, he wanted to pull her back in and kiss her senseless, but he knew better than to interrupt her during a shower. She just looked so incredible like this, naked and bare before him, and all he wanted to do was keep her close to him and hold her.
“Okay,” her voice echoed in the bathroom. “Time for conditioner?”
He nodded and they repeated the process, careful hands rubbing the contents into her hair and tapping her shoulder once again to alert her to rinse. However, she bent down and handed him her strawberry body wash, telling them that he can now wash her body too.
Inuyasha gulped, completely nervous and flustered, and began to spread the soap around her body. He rubbed at her arms and back, briefly taking a break to massage her shoulders since they were now slippery with soap. Afterwards, he spread the soap throughout the rest of her body, blushing madly when his hands touched certain parts of her that he loved to caress. Selfishly, he spent a little more attention on her chest, soaking in the little gasps and sounds she made whenever his fingers grazed over a certain spot.
While he continued to wash her body with her back against his chest, he tilted her chin towards his lips and kissed her. His hands rubbing soap against her chest and stomach, feeling every twitch from the muscles in her stomach and swallowing every gasp from her lips with his mouth.
Once satisfied with his work, he tapped on her tummy to let her know that she can now rinse off the soap and conditioner. Grinning to himself proudly at the look of bliss on his girlfriends face.
Kagome’s legs were shaking as she cleaned off the soap, doing her best to calm herself down after the intense intimacy they had just shared. After all the soap was gone, she stepped out of the water and pecked Inuyasha’s chest. “Okay Mr, it’s my turn now. Go wet your hair again.”
Inuyasha raised his hands in defense, “Yes ma’am,” he laughed.
After his long, silver hair was soaked in water again Kagome went to work. Spreading around the shampoo into his hair and gently massaging her fingers into his scalp, hopefully the movement allows him to relax for a little. He made her feel so relaxed, all she could do was hope that she could make him feel that way too.
While her hands massaged his scalp, Inuyasha closed his eyes and let go of everything around him; completely focusing on this current feeling. It felt so good, it was like he was on cloud nine. Her fingers moved against him so gently, as if he was this fragile thing that could break. There was a feeling bubbling in his chest as she continued her ministrations, and he pushed it back as best as he could.
“Go rinse,” her soft voice cooed, pulling him out of his trance.
Reluctantly he moved forward into the water, rinsing off the shampoo from his hair. He felt little hands tugging behind him as Kagome had gone ahead to help him clean his hair.
“Baby, what are ya doin’?” Inuyasha chuckled, “You’ve done enough.”
Kagome shook her head, forgetting that he couldn’t see her, “I want to do it.”
He let her, because who was he to tell her no? They were aware that he could do it on his own, and yet here she was, gently cleaning out the soap from his hair.
“You hair is so long, it needs conditioner.” She laughed, “Come back here so I can put some on.”
He listened to her and relished in the feeling of her hands in his hair again, practically falling asleep standing up as she did so. The tugging on his hair stopped, but before he could pout from how much he missed her hands in his hair, her small hands were on his back as she scrubbed him.
She was so gentle as she did it, using her body to rub some of the soap onto his, and her hands to reach other areas. Slender hands smoothed out and glided across his chest and stomach, leaving him extremely soapy there. Inuyasha couldn’t help but laugh, knowing good and well that she was enjoying himself just as much as he was.
When he went to rinse, she helped him out as well, wanting to be as close to him as she possibly could. With all of these new feelings, that feeling started bubbling up again in his gut, and he blinked away tears that formed in his eyes.
Kagome noticed the change in his face and stopped, moving to cup his cheeks instead and looking into his eyes. “Inuyasha?”
“I’m fine,” he reassured her, wrapping his arms around her once again. “You’re too good to me.”
Kagome smiled, moving to leave a little kiss on his chest. “I could say the same thing about you.”
Under the flow of water, Inuyasha bent down to meet her lips once again. They kissed until she was pressed up against the cold, wet tile. With her small hands tucked into silver hair while his clawed ones held her waist.
“Thank you,” he told her as he pulled away. “Yer the most incredible thing to ever happen to me.”
Kagome leaned up to kiss his lips in a chaste kiss, “Thank you for sharing this moment with me.”
“Let’s do it again tomorrow,” Inuyasha replied huskily, kissing her neck in feverish speed.
Kagome tilted her head against the wall to expose her neck, breathing out slowly, “Somebody’s excited,” she teased.
Inuyasha chuckled into her neck, “Baby, if we ever manage to get out of this bathroom, I’ll show ya just how excited I am.”
He continued to kiss her as she squealed, the warmth of the water hitting his back as he kissed her for everything that she was worth; and then some more.

Inuyasha One Shot/Ficlet!
i wrote another one shot! it didn’t take nearly as long as the Wanda Maximoff/Reader one shot took (to be fair, i was attending college full time and working two part time jobs). This one shot is a little more accurate of Kagome’s and Inuyasha’s personalities relative to previous characterizations for MCU characters in my one shots.
I had a lot of fun writing this. I hope whoever reads this, enjoys it!! <3

Happy Birthday @blairex!
Thank you for all the late night conversations about so many great stories here. I hope you have the best day ever. Here's an InuKag one shot of your favorite trope: fake dating. 💕
Bar Rescue
Summary: Kagome can’t help but save the hanyou in distress when a group of women just don’t leave him alone.
Sitting atop her barstool, Kagome enjoyed the burning warmth as her drink slid down her throat. Closing her eyes, she listened to the voices around her, wincing at the squeals and shrieks coming from the bridal party celebrating a few booths from her. She had the roughest day at work, many of her male coworkers giving her a hard time, as usual.
Running one of the most successful law firms in the district, she often found herself surrounded by testosterone on a daily basis, leading her to stop in at her favorite bar on Friday nights. Another scream had her grimacing, looking up to the bartender, a short red headed fox demon, she gestured for him to come over.
