I’ve been revising Irish and I had completely forgotten how much of an extra language it is.
For example, in English you say “I am really sorry.” The Irish translation is literally “the sadness of the world is upon me.” Tá brón an domhain orm. 💀🇮🇪

༻`` 22 & 23 Mar 24 — Friday and Saturday
100 days of productivity 65 & 66/100
For some reason I kept thinking today was Friday.. I didn't finish all my chemistry notes but I finished 1 booklet and highlighted previous notes and I'm really happy with that anyway! Also, I did 25 pushups practically in 1 go!!! It's my goal for this month (which I've been building up to since January, around which I could barely do 1 pushup!)
Journalled today too and here is my plan:
I will keep micellar water and nail things by the sink (to improve and encourage general skin care)
I will keep my dog's leash on my desk (to encourage walking them more often —3x a week)
And I will get up to do something at 4.30 every day, even if only to sit back down after (to get some momentum and energy for other tasks)
For the remaining days of my 100dop I will report on my progress, as well as on my sleep schedule (🌙 10.30, ☀️6.30) —I was gonna say that it's 10.25 and I can actually still hit that goal today WOO!!!! But no its 11.25 TvT....

I took these pictures myself. Some of these books are old, some were just poorly handled over the years, and all were thrifted across the second-hand stores of Dublin.
Here I link every post I make on book reviews, book recs, book summaries, and book recommendations. I keep it up to date.
I own books of all genres, so from fiction, you can expect: high fantasy, urban fantasy, classic literature, modern classics, short story anthologies, poetry, translated fiction, Asian fiction, Middle Eastern fiction, North African fiction, African fiction, Western fiction, Irish fiction, myth and folklore retelling, historical fiction, murder mysteries/crime fiction.
And from non-fiction, you can expect: European history, African history, Irish history, Asian history, Middle Eastern history, Islamic history, biographies and memoirs (of classic authors, world travellers, queens, and empresses), science, female health, culture and anthropology, self-help, psychology, on writing, on reading, myth and folklore, travel memoirs.

14.02.2024 | why I learn languages
Updating and finishing my polyglot journal from 2020-2023 is going well, albeit at a leisurely pace. There are so many details to include and ideas pop into my head when I look at my studies in context--I like commenting on them: it highlights how much has changed in the way I think based off of what I have learnt and experienced throughout all of my projects and studies. Only now am I writing out my reasons for learning certain languages (the core ones), despite that this was the first section I allotted space to when I began this book, and while I would have liked to compare and contrast my skills and ideas at the start and the finish, I'm kind of glad that only the present is left to reflect on them in brief.

My months of rest and relaxation // day 8
I really need to get my eyes checked for new glasses, because I am pretty sure my eyesight has gone worse. I have been getting more and more of the headaches I had before I got my first pair of glasses, and that's not due to being tired and all. I am a bit annoyed at this, and on the more superficial level I really hope I'll find similar looking frames, because although my current pair is quite worn out I love it dearly. Thinking about it it makes sense I last got my eyesight checked when I was still in high school (I think I was either on my fourth or final year when I got my current pair of glasses). What I am sure I'll do is get a pair that is blue-light blocking because digital lights and screens are my main nemesis when it comes to headaches.
Productivity:
read a lot (I have read at least a chapter of all the books on my currently reading shelf!)
continued my re-listening of the magnus archives
started reading and underlining the Irish grammar material @oneanxiousstudybuddy kindly shared with me
practiced Irish on duolingo
Self care:
did not set an alarm in the morning
read first thing in the morning
took a relaxing bath
tonight I'll go out to dinner with a friend I haven't catched up with in a while

Yesterday was not too bad of a day but I did spend 5 ½ hours at church yesterday.... at least 4 of which were spent staring into space... I was so exhausted by the end of it and was home only after 11. Planned on getting some chemistry revision done after mass, but I was expecting to only wait around for 2 hours, not over 4....
Today my mum had a kind of heart to heart with me, mainly because of yesterday's talk at mass and confession. It was nice but very strange.
Didn't get any studying done today either but I did get down and wrote out a page of notes! It's really not much but considering I did practically nothing this past week, plus the lack of wanting to do anything, I'm happy that I did something. Excited on getting back into some routine tomorrow.
30 Day New Year Momentum 4/100
Honestly, I may have forgotten about this challenge but I'm looking forward to getting more involved with it again!
What book are you currently reading?:
A Hundred Years to Arras by J. M. Cobley
I've got 100 pages left and it is amazing so far!!

Ive been studying Irish for years but I'm struggling to get past A1-A2 because i have nobody to practice with and it's very hard to find people where i am. there's paid apps that can help you find language partners but i am broke and Irish isn't a commonly available language on them. I've had an idea to get around this, but for it to be worth trying to set I'd need at least a few people with carried levels of 'fluency' to be interested.
the idea is to set up an Irish language discord. it would have roles for beginner, intermediate, advanced, and native speakers. there would be text chats with different topics and voice chats where people can talk to each other. it would just be a space where people trying to learn can speak and practice with each other.
i really only need a few other people for this to be worth it, and ideally at least one person who'd fit the advanced or native speaker role. if you'd be interested in joining this discord for practice, please let me know and if i get enough responses, I'll set it up and let people know
