What if acotar fairies were old school and humans were actually a threat?
So I've been thinking about messing around with acotar, that is writing my own fanfic. Said fanfic would be heavily inspired by bloodborne and HFY because I like them and humans can actually be really scary (and really cool). So, anyway here's my idea so far.
I really dislike how SJM wrote humans. And that's not just because I'm a human being (as far as anyone knows/ can tell) but because humans are actually really scary, cool, and clever (and stupid). So what if humans weren't weaklings at all? I mentioned this in an ask dedicated to @ae-neon about humans having iron blood and old school fairies not liking iron at all, so why can't the acotar fairies be like that? With our red iron blood, we would be unable to cast magic, but our blood could cut through spells or the fairies themselves, like acid. And since fairies basically thrive with everything magic like tools, weapons, buildings, all it would take would be a bit of blood, either from us or a mundane animal and it all just melts.
What if we were so alien and other that fairies couldn't even fathom the idea of enslaving us at all just on the basis that we were far too unfathomable/ monstrous (to them)? What if fairies and humans were just so different because they weren't from the same world? They could literally be aliens to one another, one the invader, and the other an ancient race. An embodiment of the old world's rage, a revenant.
Think about it, sjm talks about the cauldron creating the world, but what if it didn't do that? Or what if it did, but didn't do it in the way we think it did? What if the eddies or the mother or whoever found the world that would become Prythian? A perfectly mundane world with mundane creatures that have iron in their blood. What if, when the cauldron was tipped over the mountain in the beginning it didn't create a new world but boiled the old world away?
In my au that I've been toying with, this is exactly what happens, except because it takes a significant amount of power to overwrite a world, especially one that's so anathema towards magic, the cauldron couldn't finish the job. This means that only a small part of the world was overwritten, and the rest is completely mundane and hostile towards magic. And it actually works out, to me, anyway.
In the books Pryhtian is basically the UK cast as Fantasy, but the UK is hella small compared to the rest of the world. So what if, in the beginning, the fairies were trying their hardest to make this very vast world magical, only to immediately run into mundane beasts who have iron in their blood (obviously) so they didn't get very far (hence why their maps of the world are so small). These beasts would sense that these creatures are wrong and alien and react accordingly via running away or fighting. The fairies of course would try to eliminate these monsters for their own safety, only to run into humans. Humans who are technologically advanced and supremely pissed off.
This begins the war, but instead of a war for freedom, its a war for the world and it lasts for a very, very long time. Like, if we take the time that the humans were enslaved in canon and add that time to the war they fought for their freedom, I'm talking that long. For centuries. Magic vs tech, humans vs fairies. (Note: iron blood makes magic actually impossible for humans and because these humans build everything out of iron and steel, plus I imagine a fairy wouldn't understand the types of engineering/physics that go into these weapons/contraptions they wouldn't be able to replicate it. So basically tech is to the fae what magic is to humans. Suck it fairies)
Now because fairies are ridiculous, they don't really get destroyed despite having the literal world against them. They get pushed back, and back, and back until we get to the great general Jurian who fought the last stretch of the war that forced the fairies to put up the wall to protect themselves. This ends the centuries long war, forcing the humans and the fairies to stop in their tracks.
Now, the question I have to ask myself is "why don't the humans just cut down the wall with their iron and steel?" And the answer I come up with is exhaustion. Both sides hate/fear eachother, but they are also really tired from fighting a war for centuries (and wars are expensive). And looking at it from the human's perspective, this war is generations long. There is literally no one alive who remembers when the fae weren't around. They get tired, jaded, and cynical. They are surrounded by the war machines they spent so much time, resources, and money on. They live in these massive steel fortresses built for war. Many of them have lost friends and family to the war, they are probably sick of it. So they take the fairies building the wall as an opportunity to breathe. Plus, they reproduce faster, so the way some of the higher ups see it, they will win. Maybe not today, tomorrow or even in a decade into the future. But they will win the world back eventually.
I might expand on this later, but that's what I've been thinking about lately.

It’s been a few weeks since Confluence of Nothingness completed and i was able to sweep the new Iron Blood ships. That sh*t taxed my pockets way more than i would have liked but, i must say, just Bismarck Zwei has been worth the effort. She has been everything Ultra Rare ship should be. In terms of raw power, Zwei is a whole ass problem. Sure, stat wise, she’s slightly above average but her skills, when executed properly, are kind of f*cking amazing. Zwei is, admittedly, no Musashi but for a UR KMS, I'm here for all of it. Regensberg is a fun ship, overall, but kind of a pain to use properly. A lot of her appeal is based on how she’s deployed but i kind of don’t care about that type of stuff. I have my Feet which i run and Regensberg is, more or less, eye candy to me. Also, but that Dark Dragon, Brilliant Beach, though! I just really love her design. Now, Otto von Alvensleben, on the other hand, is a gem. This ship is quite the powerhouse and really made the grind to max out my new boats, a total breeze. Otto eats mobs for breakfast and when you’re about that power leveling, this sh*t is a goddamn godsend. Confluence of Nothingness paid off tremendously for me in terms of raw power and i am completely satisfied with the results.
Tumblr media
As far as the grind is concerned, i have finished maxing the levels of all of the Nothingness ships, their affection, as well as their skills, save U-556 META. Still debating whether to actually grind her out as i don’t use META ships at all but, you know, KMS main and all so we’ll see. It’s odd having completely maxed out the new boats in such a short time, took me about three days after they dropped from the Banner, one of which is topped out at 125. I’ll let you guess which one that is, or not. It’s Zwei. Of course it’s Zwei. She’s a UR Kraut. Of course i would break her limit first. The problem i have now is the fact i only have enough of those goddamn Cognitive Arrays to Limit Break one of my SR ships. I’m leaning toward Otto for the sheer versatility but i REALLY like Regensberg. I’ll get enough to break the other one during the next Seasonal Cruise but, i mean, right now? The Limit Break grind is the only thing i have left for these two so it kind of doesn’t matter either way but, like, doesn’t it? Decisions, decisions. It’ll probably be Otto but, you know, Musashi is also an option. She’s just sitting over there in my neglected Sakura dock, looking awesome and being the best UR available in the game right now, with a stockpile of Experience that will immediately blast her to level 125 the second i Break her. But that’s kind of the point. The short-lived KMS grind is complete and i have found myself at the same impasse i was at before Azur Lane dropped Confluence of Nothingness: What do i do next?
Tumblr media
Marco Polo is basically complete, i just need to grind out that last bit of Experience. I mean, U-556 META is always an option but I'll never use her for anything, especially considering the other Super Rare KMS subs in my Fleet are, technically, better and they’re all topped out at level 125 already. I could construct another PR ship or two, kind of gave up on the other Docks because that sh*t was getting expensive and i don’t care to do it in general. I still want Kronshtadt and Shimakaze, but, like, i don’t particularly care to finish the rest of those docks. And the Ruskies are actually my second favorite Fleet in the entire game! Maybe I'll focus on the Rainbow Ships for now. Not only the Ultra Rare boats but the Decisive ones, too, because, holy sh*t, some of those Decisives are a big time. Azuma dropped way back in Series Two so i imagine a Fate Simulation may be on the way and, even without one, she’s still a problem. Her Series mate, Friedrich, got one a few months back and that sh*t has made her an absolute monster, even if she was one to begin with. I dunno, man, I'll think about it while i enjoy my buffed up Iron Blood dock for a while. So far, we KMS mains aren’t eating like last year but the dish served up this time, was absolutely decadent.

I’m suuuper hyped about the new Iron Blood event in Azur Lane! ♥ It’s called Confluence of Nothingness. :O
I immediately started playing after the server maintenance ended and the story starts out really really exciting! Can’t wait to find out more. :3
There’s also a bunch of cool new ship girls to get - first and foremost of course, Bismarck Zwei!
Tumblr media
She’s got a super cool new rigging and she seems to be really strong as well - I can’t wait to add her to my fleet. :3
Also looking forward to getting Regensburg. She looks a little bit like a demon or succubus. xD
Tumblr media
There’s also a separate mini-event where we can explore a mysterious deserted island, gather materials, build a little base and play mini-games, so I’ll certainly be busy in the coming days. ♥

August! Welcome to the Fleet.
Weser and Elbe will show you around Port and set you up with accommodations in the Iron Blood dorms.
Graf Zeppelin is the leader of IB carrier operations and will get you kitted and your rigging up and running in the Armory. Once that is completed, your assignment will be to relieve Peter Strasser as IB liaison to NAVCOM. She’s been submitting transfer requests on a weekly basis to get back to the line for training and sortie. Strasser isn’t just big shoes to fill, she’s the shoes to fill. Here’s hoping your time management is a good as hers. FdG has little patience for those who can’t pull their tonnage, especially for carriers in her formations.

One of the first SSR ships that I got back when I first started playing Azur Lane was Prinz Heinrich. She was part of my main fleet until I stopped and subbed her for another ship. Then, after a while, I placed her back into my main fleet and used her until I reached the higher levels of the game's core campaign. Today, she is at Level 125, and her Affinity is max out. Like the minimalist wallpaper I've made for Baltimore, this one of Heinrich's is a request by a follower of mine on Instagram. It took a while, but I managed and was pleased with how it came out.
Character: Prinz Heinrich (from Azur Lane)

“Iron Blood” Snippet 2
Felt like sharing another brief snippet! Doubt many will see this since I’m so inactive on tumblr, but in case you want some context, here’s a quick re-cap from the last snippet post:
These past few months I’ve been working on a fantasy story, trying to make some sort of legible draft from the mess I’ve accumulated. I don’t think it’s ready yet, but I thought I might post a snippet here or there, for those who might care.
Working title for the story is An Iron Blood Tale, though that may change. Projected at two novels, Iron and Gold & Soot and Blood, I plan to eventually post it on AO3. Not going to say much about the plot at this point, but it’s a long-format dark fantasy story whose core themes focus on the corruption of ultimate power, the poisonous nature of prejudice, and the battles we face, both external and internal, when we survive truly awful experiences.
The bit below is from early on in Soot and Blood, just a quick little snippet! Apologies for any typos etc, I always manage to miss a few lol. If you enjoy or want to read more of my stuff, give a like or a reblog, and you can find me on AO3 here: https://archiveofourown.org/users/experi_neverendum
 Thank you for reading!

Emrik knew he was getting close to the town when the forest began to thin, and sure enough, he soon spotted a packed dirt road that ran east to west. Remembering how he'd seen the distant smoke rising against the sunset the previous evening, Emrik went west, and a short while later he came to the forest's edge. The world beyond opened out into flattened grasslands and wide, stretching fields, the trees long ago cleared away to make way for farmland. The road ran along the forest's edge, and Emrik followed it for some hours until the first herald of civilization came into view, little more than a dark, sagging cottage nestled in the center of some sprawling, unkempt farmland. Despite the dimming rays of the afternoon sun, no lights glowed from inside the cottage. It looked abandoned.
At least now he knew he was headed in the right direction.
Emrik went on past the cottage and some time later saw another small home appear on the horizon, this one clearly inhabited. Distant figures were out working the fields, doing as much as they could before they lost the daylight. They noticed Emrik coming down the road and stopped their work, silently watching him pass by the farm from across the wide field. Emrik didn't make any attempt to hail them. He never knew what sort of reception he could expect from humans, especially when they were in groups, so he usually made very little effort unless it was a necessary hassle. They were well out of earshot besides. As he passed the home one of the figures ran across the field and inside the cottage, and soon enough a few more people stepped out onto the porch to watch him stroll along. Emrik hefted his knapsack, adjusted the strap across his shoulder, and tried not to let their wary gazes pick at him.
Honestly, sometimes it was as though he'd sprouted a tail or an extra set of limbs. If this was any indication of how the townsfolk would treat him, Emrik wasn't going hold out hope for a warm bed or hot meal tonight.
He went on past this farm as well, content to leave them be, and soon he caught a glimpse of the same rising trails of smoke that he'd seen yesterday, and knew he was close to civilization. Focused as he was on the thought of facing a crowd of pale, gaping faces, and the hazards that might present, Emrik didn't notice the approaching footsteps until it was too late.
His attackers were on top of him before the footfalls cut through Emrik's exhausted thoughts, and he barely had time to spin around and get his arms up before a shovel came wailing down upon him. Not enough time at all, actually—Emrik sloppily tossed his arms up over his head as the flat, broad side of the shovel cracked across his skull. He cried out. Luckily he'd moved quick enough to blunt the blow, but the bright shock of pain made his ears ring, echoing in his head like thunder. He blinked rapidly to clear his vision and stumbled backwards, seeing double.
"Move off, devil!" His attacker cried, raising the shovel again. "We won't have any more of your kind here!"
"What? Now hold on—Siho!" Another blow, but Emrik saw it coming this time.
He caught the shovel in his hand, and as his vision cleared he was able to see who had ambushed him: a man, older, though Emrik wasn't exactly sure how old, it was so hard to tell with humans. The man tried to pull the shovel back from Emrik, but Emrik didn't allow it. He had the advantage of height and weight, and ripped the shovel out of the old man's grasp, like taking a wooden spoon from a child. The man yelped as Emrik yanked it away, his eyes going wide as dinner saucers in his weathered face.
The man's companions, two younger men—no doubt his sons—also had makeshift weapons, a rusted old rake and pitchfork. They raised them, stepping in front of their father. Emrik huffed.
Well then. Coming here may indeed have been a mistake.
Their attack was sloppy, almost to the point of being laughable. It caused a flare of annoyance to spark in Emrik's belly at the throbbing in his skull. How had he let these fools get the drop on him?
They swung their weapons wildly, and Emrik used the shovel's wooden handle to easily glance away the blow from the rake, and then jammed the handle between the prongs of the pitchfork. He used the shovel as a lever to rip the pitchfork from the young man's hands. The man made a surprised noise as Emrik turned and swung the pitchfork away; its prongs slipped off the shovel's handle and it went flying off, landing a fair distance away in the tall grass. The man with the rake shouted and brought it down again, and this time Emrik simply caught it in his hand, the wood smacking against his palm, and one-handed made to pull it out of the man's grip. The man clung on for a moment or two, stumbling forward a few steps as Emrik yanked. Emrik brought his foot up and gave the man a gentle shove with the sole of his boot, and he went wheeling backwards, falling down onto the dirt road, kicking up a little cloud of dust.
Just as quickly as it had started, the scuffle was over, Emrik left standing victorious in the road with a shovel in one hand and rake in the other, the last of the ringing clearing out of his ears. Three wide-eyed faces stared back at him.
"Please don't do that again," Emrik said in rough Pulgavi, throwing the makeshift weapons down onto the dirt. The three men backed away from him. "I've already had a pretty shit few days, you wouldn't believe."
"Stay back!" One of the younger men shouted, throwing his hand up protectively.
"I didn't move," said Emrik.
"Devil!" The father yelled, throwing some sort of hand sign, no doubt a religious symbol of some sort. "Hasn't your kind done enough? Just leave us be!"
"I was only walking into town." Emrik assumed these men were farmers from the cottage he'd just passed, valiantly protecting their land from peaceful passerby. He fought the strong urge to roll his eyes. Great Iron Lords, humans.
"Don't spin tales," one of he younger men said, glaring at Emrik while he half-hid behind his brother. "We know your sort of filth well enough. We've had our fill of devils in Sysse. Why can't you stay away?"
Emrik sighed. Much as he would love to move along and leave these people to their business, their talk of devils had drawn his interest. This farm was, after all, still quite close to the Gate. Emrik had thought his work here finished, but perhaps the Strixa hadn't been the only abomination to slip through. It was possible that these people, while annoying, were not entirely insane. "Look," he said. "If I wanted to hurt you, I would have done it already. And I'm not a devil."
"Then what are you?" The father spat.
"An elf," Emrik said. "And a tradesmen, of sorts."
"Not like any elf I've ever seen," one of the sons said.
"You've never seen an elf at all," said the other, earning a quick jab in the ribs from his brother.
"Shut up! You know the prayers. The elves are His hands. Does this thing look like a holy creature to you?"
"I am standing right here, you know," Emrik said, flat, and all three looked at him again. "Look, I really am an elf. See? Pointy ears." He lifted his white hair away from his temples, showing the ears in question. All three blinked at him like startled sheep. "Now. I might be able to help with your devil problem."
The father opened his mouth, then closed it again. "What?"
Emrik sighed again, and pointed at his own chest. "Elf," he said very slowly, drawing the word out, then pointed to the three farmers in front of him, his patience growing thin. "Idiots. But it sounds like you might be idiots with a genuine problem. If you point me in the direction of someone who actually knows what they're talking about, I may be able to help you get rid of it."
"You're lying," the father said.
"Am I?" Emrik shot back. "Tell me, what exactly have I done to hurt you? You attacked me. This devil you keep talking about, is it usually so peaceful? Does it usually talk?"
They were all silent for a long moment, but Emrik could see them thinking, the wheels turning behind their vacant eyes.
"Why would you help us?" The father asked at last. "What do you want from us?"
"Like I said, a place to sleep. A hot meal or two. And some coin." Emrik smiled at them, but it didn't look as though it brought them any comfort. "You make your living farming, and I make my living hunting. It's really not so complicated." He watched them shuffle nervously, looking at one another, their uncertainty written in the hunched line of their shoulders. "Tell me, wouldn't you like to be rid of that devil once and for all?"
The father glanced at each of his sons, then back to Emrik. "You really think that's possible?"
"Trust me, the way these things go, I'll either do it, or I'll die trying. Either way, you really haven't got anything to lose." Emrik figured that was close enough to the truth.
The father looked at him, a spark flaring behind his eyes. "Hirr's blessing, you're actually serious."
"As a whore at judgement." They all gawked at him. Emrik cleared his throat. "Now, who can tell me more about this devil?"

Archeon dynamic and the culture of the Humans
This is just a continuation of this post. Just some ideas I had to tweak the acotar world, at least on the human side of things.
So in canon the humans are matriarchal, they have queens. But this lil detail literally does nothing for canon, the only thing that is relevant to this detail is the queens who basically just show up, disagree, betray their kind, and are never really shown again (in any meaningful way iirc, it's been a hot minute since I read). Not to mention everything else is extremly patriarchal. First, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think in the real world a matriarchal society would be more socialist. So that means a Kingdom Queendom is iffy. But this is fantasy and i reserve the right to have badass queens decked out in heavy armor roaring commands at their bloodthirsty warriors.
So instead a way this matriarchal culture can be emphasized is to first change the Archeon dynamic.
This means that mama Archeon would have been the bread winner and her husband could be some eccentric trophy husband who likes to build things (inventor if you will) and woodwork. A man who occasionally invites other fellow carpenters over to build and talk. And when he's not doing that he's talking to other wealthy men and trying to introduce their handsome sons to his very talented daughters. Nesta is still the apple of mama Archeon's eye, but instead of trying to catch a husband, she's being raised to inherent and manage the ridiculous wealth and estate of the Archeon family. Elain is a woman who is very popular and basically the socialite of the family, she sets up community gardens and was working to get a degree to show the youth how important the natural world is. Feyre was a professional child athlete, mostly in archery (surprise). As she got older she dabbled in a bit of competitive shooting with guns and had the hobby of painting, something she really enjoyed. All three daughters are very educated and older, so no illiterate baby Feyre venturing into the freezing cold (plus Feyre was/is a badass markswoman pro).
The Archeons are still a family that owns a very successful company that sells general supplies to woodsmen, only to fall on hard times when Mama Archeon makes a mistake and ends up going bankrupt. Alas, it was their lavish lifestyle that damned them, hate to see it. Anyway, Mama Archeon still gets sick after they lose the majority of their fortune leading them to lose the rest trying to treat her. They all still end up in a small, cramped house with three rooms total. Mama Archeon dies, but not before telling her children to look after eachother and to take care of their father. So now they are broke and trying to survive.
Nesta is the Head of the House being the eldest daughter. She still has connections though, so for now she works for her dear friend Clare Beddor. Elain works in a plant nursery and is a private tutor, she also still has friends and connections that don't evaporate into the aether after she and her family have fallen from grace. Feyre enters competitions to earn some money and teaches marksmanship to people who are willing to pay. The only time she hunts to survive is in the winter when times get tough. Their dad takes care of the house and occasionally takes commissions to build gizmos or fashion wood carvings for people. All of them are trying to save up to buy a new home that's a bit larger than what they are stuck in right now, no one is a slouch.
Okay, that's the Archeon situation. Now for the real stuff, which is human culture.
The humans in this au are very martial. War is almost all they know from centuries full of it.They place great importance on their warriors. Everyone is expected to know how to fight in some capacity, they should also know some of the basics of science since I think they'd be really reliant/proud of it.
Humans aren't stupid (in this instance), so I think they'd know why they have such an edge on the fairies. This would lead to them venerating iron, steel, science, and blood. And this brings up something that's really interesting, in my opinion at least. And that's culture, it shifts and changes as societies age, it's kind of it's own organism. So with that thought process, I figured that as the centuries churned past and the war dragged on, the humans changed from an enlightened race that was trying to protect their world from these aliens into these grim soldiers who almost always assume that war will always be there, waiting. They changed from a society that was focused on technology, the advancement of their race, and prosperity into one that is focused on churning out the next great general. The next innovator that'll make something to put those filthy abominations down when one crosses the wall, or when the war resumes in earnest. Since, to them, the war never really stopped, did it? They'd be surrounded by reminders in the form of their fortresses and war machines.
So how does one reflect that attitude in a society? The first idea that comes to mind is religion. They'd have churches built to the things they live with constantly, they'd have gods for these sorts of things. So there would be a god of blood, science, innovation, and war. All of these concepts have a great role in their lives which would lead to these gods being the four "major" ones, with the old ones being "forgotten" and "dead." An idea I had for this was, since they were a society that wanted prosperity for themselves in ages long past, they could see the gods of these venerated concepts as dead because the fairies killed them. These deities stopped having such a role in the publics' lives that they just kind of fell to the way side, there but gone. The priests and politicians would use the idea of these much beloved gods being dead as a way to stir the pot and rouse anger.
-The god of blood could have massive churches where they occasionally sacrifice an animal on this god's holy day or smthin. I'm just thinking of the massive cathedral in blood borne when I think of this. Basically blood is a big deal, it's the gift from the gods to protect the creatures and people of the old world from the fairy incursion. And no red blood should be spilt without a good reason. Good reasons include melting fairies and/or venerating this god via sacrifice (kinda brutal).
-The god of science could basically be the one who lobbies against magic. They teach people to learn as much as they can about the natural world, and anything magical is an insult to this god.
-The god of innovation would probably be the one to encourage experiments. If the god of science is a teacher, this one is the one applying those teachings. Think of their priests as that one chemistry teacher who seemed a little too excited to set something on fire. Unhinged scientist.
-And then the god of war. This one would mostly be associated with iron and steel, I think. Protect each other and the world. The battle priests' motto is "All's fair in war." And they take that literally, biting, scratching, kicking, it's all fair game to them. In war, I feel I should stress that.
Another way to express that attitude is to make hunters a thing. Hunters being humans who go out to cull any fairies that cross the wall. These people would be very respected, and recognized by the government as an official group/organization. They would probably venerate the god of blood and maybe an old god of the hunt.
The matriarchal angle could also be further emphasized by giving the slice of human territory that is on the island a baroness. The queens aren't going to bother with a tiny territory, they'd give it to someone else let's be fr. The territory could actually be called something. Idk what. The Halting Steps Barony since that was where Jurian made his final stand and the war halted? If someone has an idea for it pls tell me.
I'm half asleep rn so this might be edited later, just wanna post this real quick
