Song Review(s): Iron Horse - “Better Man” and “Yellow Ledbetter” (From Pickin’ on Pearl Jam)
Bluegrass versions of Pearl Jam songs obviously sound nothing like Pearl Jam. Yet, the magic in Iron Horse’s remakes of “Better Man” and “Yellow Ledbetter” is that the spirit of the original band is vaguely present on the back porch.
The singles preview the May 12 arrival of Pickin’ on Pearl Jam, the latest in a series of such tributes with acoustic guitar, double bass, banjo, mandolin and high lonesomes subbing in for the original instrumentation and vocal arrangements.
Nothing about this is supposed to work. But much of it does, particularly on “Better Man,” which maybe should have been played at hootenannies all along.
“Ledbetter” is also surprisingly comfortable in overalls and boots. And that little bit of exposed flannel helps.

Steam at departure por Martien Uiterweerd
Por Flickr:
Steam locomotive 52 8060-7 of the Museumrailway S.T.A.R. departs from Stadskanaal station in the Netherlands. Since 1995 the Museumrailway S.T.A.R. (Stichting Stadskanaal Rail) exploits the railwayline between Veendam, Stadskanaal en Musselkanaal with historical steamtrains. The 26 km long track follows the border between the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe in the northeast of the Netherlands. The Deutsche Reichsbahn's Class 52 was a German steam locomotive built in large numbers during the Second World War. With over 7,000 locomotives, built across Europe, it was the most produced type of the so-called Kriegslokomotiven or Kriegsloks (war locomotives). 6,000+ locomotives passed into Russian ownership after the Second World War. Other operators of the type included Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Norway and Turkey. The Deutsche Reichsbahn (DRB) in East Germany (DDR) had 200 machines, including 52 8060-7, reconstructed to the new DRB Class 52.80. Stoomlocomotief 52 8060-7 van museumspoorlijn S.T.A.R. vertrekt vanaf station Stadskanaal. Museumspoorlijn S.T.A.R. _____________________ All rights reserved. Ngl, hate how the legs came out, the fetlocks on this Iron horse are weird.
But I had fun and actually drew something! And the flames and coloring were really fun to do. I was too lazy to try to draw wings with a finger.
