In 1985, Iron Man celebrated its 200th issue (cover date November, 1985). The issue introduced Tony Stark's Mark VII suit and the Iron Monger suit worn by Obadiah Stane. Stane was so over whelmed by his defeat that he killed himself using the Iron Monger. The issue also introduced the chessman Knight/Basil Thorpe (created by Denny O'Neil and Mark Bright). It's funny looking back on Hasbro's older, cheaper Marvel figures from about 10 years ago. These things were generally highly articulated and about eight bucks a whack - dirt cheap, by today's standards. There was a brief period where Hasbro shied away for 6-inch Legends for this kind of thing, and I got a smattering of them (often cheaply) as they were generally fantastic. There was a neat mix of new, classic, movie, comic, and "crackpot toy concept."
Tumblr media
I miss them. I'd love to see Hasbro bring back a new and big - but maybe not too big - kid's line that walks the line between a collector dream and something the tots would clamor to buy. It's quite a challenge - but the "one size fits all" approach we used to get seemed to result in bigger lines that were cheaper and had some stellar stuff in them.
Tumblr media
I regret not buying more. Sometimes. I would've loved to have picked up, say, She-Hulk or the like, but it was a great time to be into toys.
Tumblr media
I've been rewatching the show on Disney+, which I had not seen since it was on Saturday mornings a million years ago, and it's surprisingly fun. Clearly for kids, plus or minus the fact these are college kids and they're down.

I Grade: Iron Monger
Tumblr media
Appearance: Obadiah Stane’s regular look is perfect. In the comics he just looked like a Lex Luthor rip-off, but Jeff Bridges’ heftier face and thick, bushy beard do a lot to distinguish him. The Iron Monger suit, however, is pretty lame. While it structurally resembles the comics version, its dull metallic gray coloring means that it doesn’t stand out, and the dark lighting of the whole climax in which it’s utilized does it no favors either. So he gets a middling grade.
SCORE = 3
Performance: Jeff Bridges nails this role. He’s perfectly likable and affable for the first half of the movie, and then the moment he reveals his true villainous nature he is terrifying. Certain scenes between him and Gwenyth Paltrow, and him and Robert Downey Jr. are utterly nerve-wracking, with his cold, sociopathic performance being a major reason why. But he’s also got a funny, hammy side to him, befitting a supervillain, that comes out a lot in the film’s third act (”TONY STARK WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!”)
SCORE = 5
Motivation: Money and power. Just basic bitch villain stuff. Yawn.
SCORE = 1
Villainy: For most of the movie, Stane is excellent at sneaky, corrupt evil-doing in the shadows, pulling strings and making schemes all toward the purpose of taking over Stark Industries. But when he’s busted by S.H.I.E.L.D and has to actually be Iron Monger as a consequence, he turns into a big brute and isn’t nearly as impressive. It was a necessary downgrade since we needed Iron Monger for the climax, but it still lowers his score.
SCORE = 4
Resolution: Despite not being as cool being Iron Monger as he is being plain old Obadiah Stane, he still receives the perfect conclusion while in that suit, with Tony using the results of an earlier flight experiment against him and ultimately sending him right into the giant arc reactor at the heart of Stark Industries, where he explodes. Now that’s karma at its finest.
SCORE = 5
Final Grade: 3.5; an above-average comic movie villain and a perfect MCU Starter Villain.

Red Skull must be REALLY paying for this fake Iron Monger's time. Considering how much he's going to "pay" when Viper calls in to collect this particular debt. Captain America 419

I was pretty worried about that Corelle dishes post actually but I'm not sure it's true. My grandparents have 2 of those sets but except like 1 website there doesn't seem to be any other sources about lead in it?
Like not saying it's 100% wrong I'm just not sure it's right
Here is the post.
The most recent statement I saw from Corelle was last year and they said they were 'investigating' which isn't a bad response. Mostly everything else was mostly people reporting on posts like that or people posting what Corelle customer service sent them (1, 2, 3)
There is the general issue that lots of stuff in the US at least can be tricky the older it gets because there are instances of lead being mixed in the paint.(1,2)
So I can't speak to Corelle dishes, pre-2005 does seem very recent for lead paint concerns, and the op should have included some kind of source, but I do figure better safe than sorry with older cookware items. Except cast iron, that shit rules. (1)
