Irozuku sekai no ashita kara Review
Tumblr media
The positive:
This anime got me interested through the premise and the mundane use of magic. There aren't many stories around that have magic as normal part of the world, as shops, something people live with and accept and study and there aren't any monsters to fight or wars to win. I was really enjoying that aspect.
The themes with the colours and finding joy in life and little things, in appreciating the world through photography and art, regaining passion, becoming more honest and confident in your feelings and yourself were all nice and all there. The characters had touching dynamics and the ending was bold with the main heroics coming back to the future and losing all the friendships she gained. But it was powerful in how neither regretted knowing her and that all were moved and changed by the experience despite the pain and longing it brought.
The art is eye candy and beautifully symbolises the changes and feelings in the heroice. The idea of coming into drawings was wonderful and I loved the world inside drawings, the drawings coming to life and the connection created with the artist through it.
There is lots of affection, hugging and hand holding in this series and I appreciated the closeness and fluff a lot. It's a sweet relaxing ride with cute emotions and caring friendships.
The romance was actually pretty cute and naturally developed if a bit slow and hesitant, but true to the characters and how they gradually came to care for each other.

The ending was definitly touching, bittersweet and hopeful and brought a tear or two to my eye.
The negative:
It's very slow. Since the conflict is very much slice of life, so is the pacing. The plot points make sense but they are filled with cliche phrases of let's do our best togehter and cringy love triangles and the eternal japanese dilemma of confessions. Big eye roll.
Frustratingly boring protagonist. While the protagonist is understandable with her anxiety and fear of everything and hesitates to do decisions, speak up or show much emotion, it also makes the story incredibly dull at times. I was screaming at the screen for her to move and do something. I'm sure I do this in real life too, mulling over small things needlessly and overworrying, but it's incredibly boring and frustrating in a protagonist. I thought I would enjoy stoic thoughtful characters since they are so rare, but seems like they are just very difficult to get right - managing to be interesting and dynamic and active while still being private and calm.
The characters were friendly and sweet but there was little uniqueness or personality to them. For real it seems to me the most developed and strong characters can be still found in sport anime with the highest probability. Sentimental art pieces like this might have the animation and theme and idea, but the characters are lacking in personality and development and engagement.
The dialogues felt so tacky and overly polite it was unnatural. Everyone is saying their greetings and phrases for the situation but the lines when something truly interesting and memorable is said - while there and I was impressed at times - are way too little and too far between overall.
All in all if you are in the mood for some fluffy colourful magical realism with nice themes and sweet friendship moments I can recommend this, but be warned with the pacing, characters and how boring fear can be in a story.
