Book of Esther by Moshe Dadon (Israeli, 1943-2021)
Moshe Dadon, originally from Morocco, learned microcalligraphy as a boy when local rabbinical leaders, following an anti-Jewish riot, began searching for ways to create tiny Hebrew ritual items, such as a Torah scroll, which could be transported through the city without attracting the attention of people who sought to destroy them. At age eight, Moshe was taught the profession of “sofor-stam”, that is, of someone who writes Jewish religious texts on parchment for ritual use.

"Ben-Tor posted the clip on October 19 to the Instagram account she runs with fellow Israeli artist and collaborator Miki Carmi. In the video, the artist delivers a sarcastic monologue while wearing a mask that many on social criticized as (is) a “racist caricature” of Arabs or Palestinians. Some critics used the term (this racist performance trope is called) “Arabface” in describing the artist’s performance... Past works by (Tamy) Ben-Tor show her caricaturing Arab people; in what appears to be the artist’s YouTube channel chronicling her performances, one video uploaded in 2012 shows Ben-Tor in the guise of a character she calls “Dr. Hammam, Middle East expert and civil rights activist” who makes anti-Jewish remarks. In another piece, from 2004, Ben-Tor appears to play the role of Hitler while wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh. In a 2005 video titled “Girls Beware,” Ben-Tor again dresses as an Arab man, this time delivering catcalls, then makes anti-Arab comments while playing the role of a sex worker."

The goal is not merely to introduce Bedouin art to Israelis, but to proclaim loud and clear that it represents an integral part of Israeli art'
The first major exhibition of Bedouin art will open on Wednesday at the Raha center for the plastic arts in Rahat, the country's largest Bedouin city in the Negev desert. Among the artists whose work goes on display are founders of the Raha center—launched in July—including Hala Abo Freh, Nasraa Azbarga, Ola Alkrenawi, Camilar Isabela and Fatma Abo Freh.

The Raha center was created on the initiative of the city's community center under the direction of Fouad Ilizidna. Alter, who had already set up a similar center in the Eshkol Regional Council in southern Israel, was contacted to coordinate the establishment of the the institution in Rahat. The center offers a wide range of artistic activities for children of all ages and adults, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography or video art.
“The goal is not merely to introduce Bedouin art to Israelis, but to proclaim loud and clear that it represents an integral part of Israeli art,” Alter added.
Artists from the Raha center are currently at work on a large-scale mural in partnership with Shenkar College. The project will be unveiled in late March.
