BREAKING
The Houthis in Yemen say they have captured an "Israeli" cargo ship named the Galaxy Leader.
The ship flies the Bahamian flag and is not part of any Israeli shipping fleet.
It may however be Israeli-owned. It is important to note that there are many Israeli-owned ships that are used by foreign shipping companies.
The Galaxy Leader has a crew of 22, none of whom are believed to be Israeli.
DEVELOPING: Israeli source confirms the Houthi rebels in Yemen took over an Israeli ship owned by businessman Rami Ungar. The source says there were no Israelis onboard.

Largest Asian shipper tells clients it would no longer sail to Israel although its vessels have not been targeted by [Ansarallah]; Israeli partner Zim says was blindsided by decision
The Chinese Cosco Shipping Lines, the world's fourth largest transporter of containers said on Sunday it would no longer be sailing to Israeli ports in order to avoid attack from [Ansarallah] in the Red Sea. Cosco is the first international company to halt all business with Israel since the attacks on cargo vessels by the [...] Yemni [sic] group, began. [...]
The company's announcement is preceded by earlier Chinese policies and actions taken by companies which harm imports to Israel since the beginning of the war. About two weeks ago, Chinese high-tech importers essentially "adopted sanctions" on shipments of components to Israel in opposition to the war in Gaza. China also denied an Israeli request to hire Chinese workers to fill positions in Israeli construction after the government decided to suspend the work of West Bank Palestinians

If you live in the USA or the UK I better not hear shit from you about Yemen, Iran, Lebanon, least of all Palestine (but if you did that you're dead to me already). We're in full revolutionary defeatist mode now, if you weren't cool enough to be onboard already. Every single piece of ordnance that hits an American or British or Israeli oil tanker, warship, or cargo ship is a victory. No whining, no ifs, ands, or buts, no "reasoned concerns". Death to empire; align your rhetoric to that end.

Insurers are placing restrictions in their war-risk policies so that they don’t have to cover US-, UK- and Israel-linked ships sailing through the Red Sea, according to one of the world’s top insurance brokers. Some are seeking exclusions for vessels with links to the US and UK when issuing cover for trips through the area, according to Marcus Baker, global head of marine and cargo at Marsh, essentially meaning they won’t provide insurance. “Underwriters are adding clauses saying no US, UK or Israeli involvement,” he said. “Just about everybody is putting something like that in, and many include the words ‘ownership’ or ‘interest’.” Last week, Yemen’s Houthi rebels said that UK and US ships were legitimate targets for attack, after the two nations launched a barrage of airstrikes on targets in the country. Those warnings were brought into focus on Monday when a US-owned commodity carrier was attacked while sailing in the Gulf of Aden. The security situation in the waterway has deteriorated in recent days, with key naval forces warning that it’s unsafe for merchant shipping.

Recent houthi news: one ship they struck was carrying fertiliser and its downed contents have created an ecological disaster in the red sea; three crew members of another ship were killed by a strike. A month ago a ship carrying aid destined to sudan was also attacked, and so sea-bound sudanese shipments are under pending suspension until further notice. None of the ships were israeli.

saw this tag re: malaysia banning israeli ships and i just want to note that the gov has not just banned israeli owned ships but ships registered in any country that is travelling to or from israel as well as any ship carrying cargo that is meant to end up in israel, and banning ships from picking up cargo in malaysian ports that they intend to sell to israel. whoever owns the ship is irrelevant in that situation, because it will be banned from docking in malaysia.
another thing to note is that malaysia controls the strait of malacca which is the primary shipping route through southeast asia, particularly when shipping routes cross from the south china sea to the indian ocean and onward (and vice versa) and if ships can't dock in the strait of malacca they have to take a much longer route through indonesia. this decision essentially disrupts most trade through asia that is meant for israel, which is significant.

No Food to Gaza, then No Red Sea – Ansarallah in Yemen Just Changed the Rules, again
As a sign of growing confidence, the Yemeni Armed Forces – affiliated with the Ansarallah group – have vowed to target every cargo ship heading to Israel, regardless of its nationality and who operates it.
Tumblr media
The group said that the decision is part of its continued solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which is undergoing a genocidal Israeli war that killed and wounded tens of thousands of Palestinians. After limiting its action in the Red Sea by only targeting Israeli ships, the Ansarallah group announced on Saturday that it was expanding its operations to include every ship heading to Israel, regardless of its nationality. In a statement, the group’s military spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said that “any ships heading to the Zionist entity will be a legitimate target.” “We announce that ships bound for the Zionist entity will not pass through if food and medicine do not enter the Gaza Strip,” he said.

Some background on the Houthis what is happening
Following weeks of Houthi-led attacks on vessels in the Red Sea, the United States and United Kingdom have launched military strikes in Yemen in response, which the Houthis have described as “barbaric”.
The Houthis are an Iran-aligned group based in Yemen and have said their attacks are a response to Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, and the international community’s failure to put an end to it.
[...]
Who are the Houthis?
The Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah (supporters of God), are an armed group that control most parts of Yemen, including the capital, Sanaa, and some of the western and northern areas close to Saudi Arabia.
The Houthis emerged in the 1990s but rose to prominence in 2014, when the group rebelled against Yemen’s government, causing it to step down and sparking a crippling humanitarian crisis.
The group then spent years, with Iran’s backing, fighting a military coalition led by Saudi Arabia. The two warring sides have also repeatedly tried to hold peace talks.
However, analysts say the Shia group should not be seen as an Iranian proxy. It has its own base, its own interests – and its own ambitions.
What’s the status of Yemen’s civil war?
Yemen has been in a decade-long civil war as the Houthis maintain control of parts of the country. The group has been in ceasefire talks with Saudi Arabia while Yemen’s official government is based in Aden and led by President Rashad al-Alimi.
Al-Alimi came into office in 2022 after the country’s exiled president Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi ceded power to him. Relations between Hadi and the Houthis were especially fraught.
Yemen’s civil war has plunged the country into what the United Nations called “the world’s worst humanitarian crisis”, in March 2023.An estimated 21.6 million people or two-thirds of Yemen’s population are “in dire need of humanitarian assistance and protection services”, according to the UN.Fighting between Houthis and the military coalition, however, largely subsided last year. In 2023, the Yemeni rebels and government forces also exchanged about 800 prisoners over three days. The Houthis have been engaging in Omani-mediated talks with Saudi officials to negotiate a permanent ceasefire. Saudi Arabia also restored relations with Iran in 2023, raising hopes for the Yemen peace process.
Why have the Houthis attacked Red Sea ships?
The attacks began after the start of the Israel-Hamas war on 7 October.
The Houthis declared their support for Hamas and said they would target any ship travelling to Israel. It is not clear that all of the ships attacked were actually heading there.
In November they seized what they said was an Israeli cargo ship.
They since have attacked several commercial vessels with drones and ballistic missiles.

Protesters demanding a cease-fire in the Israeli war in Gaza blocked a U.S. military supply ship leaving the Port of Oakland for hours Friday by locking themselves to the vessel. The protesters also blocked the entrance to Berth 20 where the container carrier Cape Orlando is moored. Protest groups say the ship is bound for Israel after being loaded with weapons and military equipment in Tacoma, Washington.
The protest was organized by the San Francisco-based Arab Resource Organizing Center. Police were at the scene of the protest which appeared to number about 200 people, many holding Palestinian flags and signs demanding an end to U.S. military aid to Israel[...]
Three Palestinian supporters were holding on to a rope ladder and refusing to let workers close a door to the military ship. A U.S. Coast Guard negotiator tried to convince them to get off the ship, but protestors refused..[...] Abushamala was one of many demonstrators that blocked a port entrance to the ship. She said she lost several relatives in the war. "One missile killed three generations. An uncle, their son, and their child," said Abushamala. "I'm enraged that our government is still sending aid, missiles to Israel."
Another Palestinian protestor, Noura Khouri, said she also lost a relative in a bombing last week. "It's literally impossible for any of us to sleep, to eat, to work, to carry on with our lives," said Khouri.
Some Jewish people also joined in the protest. "I'm here as a Jewish person, the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. And I grew up hearing the stories of my grandmother surviving the Nazi's Holocaust, losing her entire family. And today, Israel is weaponizing my history, the history of my family that was killed, to kill Palestinian families in Gaza," said Alameda resident Anna Baltzer.
Just before 3 p.m., authorities removed the three protesters who held onto the rope ladder, and the ship made its way out of the port. Abushamala and other protestors were disappointed. They hope their action will have a lasting impact on lawmakers.
"No more U.S. military aid to Israel. It is within your power. Do not let the fear stop you," said Abushamala.[...]
According to a release from AROC, three protesters who climbed onto the vessel were detained by the U.S. Coast Guard -- the federal agency with jurisdiction on the water. As it is an ongoing investigation, Coast Guard Petty Officer Hunter Schnabel said Friday evening that he could not provide specifics but confirmed "multiple individuals are currently under investigation." The release from AROC called on "communities in cities around the country and across the world to be on alert for vessels carrying similar cargo."

It’s become a real challenge to keep up with every Palestine protest and action happening in this country, but I am going to round-up some of that have occurred in recent days in case you missed them. Over 75 activists shut down and blocked all entrances to Boeing Building 598 in Saint Charles, Missouri. The facility manufactures the Small Diameter Bombs (SDBs) and Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) bombs that Israel is using Gaza. “We are joining millions of people across the United States and around the world in demanding an end to Israeli’s brutal assault on Gaza and its decades-long occupation of Palestine,” said Ellie Tang, a member of the anti-war organization Dissenters, in a statement. “We urge Congress and Biden to hear the calls of millions of us living in this country, and push for a ceasefire. Until Congress blocks the bombs, we will.” After shutting operations down for 2 hours, the facility canceled its deliveries for the day. 500 protesters with Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP) took over the Statue of Liberty’s platform, dropped banners, held a sit-in, and chanted for a ceasefire. “HAPPENING NOW AT THE STATUE OF LIBERTY: Hundreds of Jews and allies are holding an emergency sit-in, taking over the island to demand a ceasefire in Gaza. We refuse to allow a genocide to be carried out in our names. Ceasefire now to save lives! Never again for anyone!,” tweeted the organization. Oakland protesters blocked a ship from leaving its port for hours. The boat was headed to the Port of Tacoma to pick up arms destined for Israel. Hundreds of protesters are currently occupying that port and at least one worker is refusing to take the cargo after learning about its use. At a Get Out the Vote rally, Democratic candidate Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) was confronted by a protester calling for a ceasefire. “4,000 plus dead children in Palestine. 9,000 plus dead civilians, get off the stage. … Get off the stage. I don’t care … get off the stage,” he yelled before being escorted out of the building by police. Tens of thousands gathered in San Francisco to demand a ceasefire. “I can feel the momentum of it and that’s why we had to get out today,” one told the local CBS station. “My son’s in Trafalgar Square right now or he was earlier today. Same deal. People who just feel the injustice of the world.” A speech by Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) in New Jersey was interrupted by activists calling on him to back a ceasefire. He quickly exited the stage. Rhode Island Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse were disrupted at event by protesters calling for a ceasefire. Rep. Grace Meng was confronted by protesters asking when she will back a ceasefire. She remained silent and her staff told them, “There’s a time and place for this.”

No, I will NOT be voting for Joe Biden.
My family was heavily impacted by the Holocaust. How DARE you ask me to vote for a man openly committing genocide.
Tell your garbage political party to pick a viable candidate or shut the fuck up.
I don’t want to hear a damn word about Trump. Biden has deported more people than Trump, banned prison letter writing, increased police and military budgets while police continue brutalizing us, and is now COMMITTING GENOCIDE.
Americans are pathetic. Yemenis, who live in the poorest country in the world, are out there seizing Israeli cargo ships and Americans not only refuse to mass mobilize but actually want to insist you vote for the guy committing genocide?!?!??!?
I don’t want to fucking hear it. I am a queer disabled sex worker and my disability application has been pending for 3 years. My spouse was permanently disabled when brutalized by the police. Nothing is better for us under Biden and nothing is better for Palestine.
Fuck you if you vote for Joe Biden. You are the problem. Everything boomers have said about millennials and younger generations is true. We are weak, spineless, soft, pathetic cowards. Boomers were out their protesting the Vietnam war and civil rights while they got shot with real bullets, attacked by dogs, hosed in the freezing cold. We are a fucking joke. We aren’t half the people Palestinians and Yemenis are as they actively mobilize against Israel + the US while they are significantly more oppressed.
