Raine’s Final Lie

I noticed something interesting about Raine and how they really lean into the Scary Shiny Glasses troupe. Specifically, how this is prevalent when they’re lying or otherwise acting deceitfully and how it ties into their final scene in King’s Tide.

TL;DR: Raine’s in love with Eda (shocker) and they both know it.

Right off the bat, literally the first time we see them their eyes are covered by the sheen of their glasses. This entire scene we do not see their eyes because Raine is in deep right now and can’t risk their mask slipping even a little.

The next time is this little thing on Eda’s phone when they’re being named head of the coven. (Also interesting, you’ll notice that of all the coven heads before Darius are cloaked in shadow while Darius, Eberwolf and Raine are lit up).

This next one is my second favorite when Raine is trying to turn down Eda’s offer to work with the BAtTs.

What’s super interesting about this one is that while Raine is just facing the BAtTs, both eyes are hidden because they’re lying about them not excepting new members/not wanting Eda there. What’s super interesting is how when Raine turns to look at her, the glasses on the side of their profile that’s facing her loses it’s gleam... because unlike the BAtTs and other people Raine has been lying to/around, Eda can see right through them.

Which actually ties right into the next time this happens during Follies at the Coven Day Parade.

What isn’t included in this gif is how Raine’s glasses lose their shine basically the second they hear Eda’s voice behind them (and likely put the last pieces together about what’s happening). Again though, Raine is putting on a show here, they don’t actually want to attack Luz, they just need everyone to think they’re still loyal to Belos.

The second to last time this happens is during the iconic reveal scene. Interestingly, this might be one of the first indicators that Terra already knows... because both times we’ve seen Raine drink the tea, their glasses either had no sheen or it goes away as she approaches.

The last time we see this (so far anyway) is during King’s Tide... the only time it’s directed at Eda.

It took me a minute to figure out why exactly their eyes are hidden in this scene. Everything’s out in the open, it’s known that they’ve betrayed the Emperor and are working with Eda and while removing someone’s arm is a little traumatizing, it’s not like they had a ton of other options or any immediate regrets.

And then it hit me.

“I promised a special kid... I’d protect you.”

This isn’t a lie per se, however, it is hiding one.

Because Raine didn’t need Luz to ask them to protect Eda. They were going to do that no matter what because they love her, even if it means fighting through excruciating pain to tear her arm off so at least she can live.

And the thing is? Eda knows. Eda knows, which is why their glasses lose the shine as soon as they turn back to her.

Because Eda can see right through them.

The Ghouls showing how much they care for you

(also this is first time like writing for fun so yeahhh)

Aether

Aether spends a lot of his time watching out for the other ghouls and helping Copia with paperwork, so it's nice when he gets to spend some alone time with you just unwinding. Aeth manages to book you two a nice cabin to enjoy, spending the day hiking through the woods, cuddling on the couch, eating a warm meal with some hot chocolate, Aether is planning on spoiling you this trip. After the long day you both had it's nice to curl up into the loft bed of the cabin, curling into his chest a deep purr starting to rumble from his chest, tail caressing your calf and nails scratching the back of your head. Your hands begin to wander his chest traveling down down down reaching between his thighs a keening sound leaving his lips, you both have all week to catch up on sleep.

Dew/Sodo

Dew is kinda known around the abbey as being hothead and quick to anger at times due to his fiery nature, but once you get to know the fire ghoul he is quite a softie for the people he cares about. During the colder months its not uncommon to see him curled up with the other ghouls or in front of fire, so when he pulls you aside into one of the warmer rooms in the abbey you're happy to oblige and cuddle with the fire ghoul to get some more warmth. Curing up into the small ghoul you both drifting in and out of sleep, a constant stream of purrs emitting from Dew, it's not too long until you both wake up and strip out of your clothes due to the heat, Dew straddling your waist raking his claws down your chest until you're bucking up into him begging him to take you.

Swiss

Swiss is known as a major flirt, managing to get the fans and every sibling of sun to fall in love with him, but with the ghouls and you it’s different. Just to show you how special you are to him he plans a nice picnic lunch in a flower field just for the two of you, both of you spending the time eating and laughing, he ends up making flower crowns for the both of you(thanks to cumulus’s showing him how). Laying back on the blanket your head on his chest pointing out the different clouds and what you can see in them he decides it’s time to bring out the surprise guitar he brought with him and serenades you. The sound of acoustic and his heavenly voice is enough to bring you to tears, once he finishes with the song you begin peppering his jaw with little kisses undoing the buttons of his shirt as you descend down his chest a happy rumble leaving it, not taking long before you’re being the one undressed because Swiss is determined to remind you of why your so special, it looks like you’ll both me missing dinner at the abbey.

Rain

He was strolling through the woods of the abbey one day when he came across a flooded garden. As soon as he saw it he fell in love, the seclusion, the intricate statues, and the crisp lake was like a dream come true for him. Eventually when you two get closer Rain decides to take you to his little sanctuary. You both spend the day relaxing in the sun, swimming, enjoying a small picnic and just basking in each other's company. It wasn't long before you two started to get handsy with one another, Rain languidly moving through the water, you laying out to sunbathe by one of the stone gazebos it wasn't long before Rain made his way over his hands skimming up your thighs over your chest and up to cradle your face kissing you deeply, slowly pulling you towards the water like the sirens of old.

Mountain

The earth ghoul is known to be quite solitary only really being close with other ghouls, Copia, Primo and the occasional sibling that helps with the garden. So when you two started to get closer Mountain thought it was time to take you to one of his favorite spots in the mountains by the abbey. A small hike through the lush forest hand in hand just taking in the scenery with the occasional fact from Mountain about the various plant life is a perfect way to start your outing together. Once you arrive Mountain sets to work laying out your things and setting up a small fire near the lakeside while you go about bringing out the food you prepared. After enjoying a nice lunch you both lay down with you one Mountains chest, him drumming a melody on your skin while you watch the wildlife around you, eventually Mount starts nuzzling into your hair pressing kisses into the crown of your head, large hands wandering the expanse of your body until he eventually flips you both over so he can enjoy dessert.

Cirrus

Cirrus is many things, an amazing pianist, wonderful singer, and most importantly a wonderful partner. She will do everything she can to let you know that she cherishes you with everything she has, and what better way to show you that love then write a song for her beloved. Tracking you down is easy, and it’s even easier to get you to come with her to the practice room that she has claimed all for herself. Taking you by the hand and leading you to your destination and sitting you down on the bench with her she begins to play. If you had any doubts about how much she cares for you(you never did) those thoughts are now erased as you listen to the song she composed just for you, her skillful fingers dancing across the keys, the sound of her voice lulling you into a trance. It’s not long after she finishes the song that your surging to cup her face in your hands and kiss her deeply, a pleased hum and smile being released against your lips. Deciding that this isn’t enough Cirrus rises still kissing you deeply, a hand slamming the lid of the piano down as both hands come back to your waist to lift you onto her piano. A tail slipping to your waist has her hands move to spread your thighs and undo the buttons of your pants, a deep moan leaving your lips when her fingers find just the right spot. Her fingers working you just like they do her piano and it’s not long before those sinful fingers create another melody, you shaking and crying with a death grip on her forearm, she wonders if she can make you sing a even more beautiful melody with her tongue.

Cumulus

She is the queen of luxury, she sees how hard you've been working lately so she's going to pamper and give you all the love you deserve. Bribing some of the others to finish your work, she manages to persuade you into her rooms and bathroom where a nice hot and steaming bubble bath is waiting for the both of you, candles flickering around the edges of the tub, rose petals in and around the water, the scent of the lavender bubble is enough to make you almost want to pass out in the doorway, but not on Cumulus’s watch. Stripping you and herself of clothes and dipping into the tub is like a dream, Cumulus taking the shampoo and lathering up your scalp the occasional scratch of her nails sending shivers down your spine, the washcloth moving languidly up and down your body, her starting to pepper kisses into the side of your neck while her tail seems to have a mind of its own. Her kisses turning into little nips and sucking on the more sensitive areas of your neck, her hand now abandoned of the wash cloth moving so close to where you need it, arching up into her touch when she’s so close only to be let down with a quiet laugh in your ear followed with a whispered “relax, let me take care of you baby.” If one things for sure Cumulus will make sure you’re relaxed and well rested before going back to your work.

Sunshine

The newest and brightest ghoulette is a pleasure to be around, lighting up the room like her namesake its no wonder you would fall for her. Sunny manages to convince Copia to lend them a ministry car so she can take her star to go watch the stars. Planning to make a road trip of it you both pack some supplies and head off to the perfect spot, making little pit stops along the way for any snacks, bathroom breaks, or store off the highway. Both of you picking out a plushie for the other to snuggle when you arrive at your destination. An hour or two more filled with laughter and karaoke from the radio you manage to pull up to the spot just as the sun is starting to set, arranging the trunk of the vehicle with blankets and pillows and any lights you could find. Sunny pulling out sparklers for the both of you, twirling and dancing to your heart’s content until the last on runs out and deciding to get ready to sit and watch the stars. Curling into the ghoulette running your fingers through her soft curls while she points of the different constellations and stars she memorized just for this trip, taking your hand and asking you which one is which, her other hand drifting under the covers of the blanket, trying your hardest to concentrate and remember what constellation is which while her sinful fingers try to make you come undone. Her promising that you have all whole night to get them right.
