how come y’all hate remadora because of the age gap but ship lily with andromeda who’s like 10 years older than her?
Hi anon,
Age gap is not what bothers me in Remadora. I think Tonks (and Luna btw) is so obviously and painfully queer, I cannot process her in a relationship with a man. I personally ship her with Fleur.
Also I am a Wolfstar fan. I don’t read fics about them anymore, but these two are just an assumed couple in my mind.
Furthermore, Remadora ship was not at all developed in the book, JKR just slapped it on and turned Tonks into a depressed weakling.
Tonks.
A badass female Auror.
Depressed over a man.
This is an insult to any woman who has ever achieved something in her life, just to then be reduced to her assumed societal role of coupling with a man and producing an offspring.
And then there’s the whole matter of Remus suddenly becoming a coward because of the pregnancy.
Remus.
Who had it uphill all his life, with the lycanthropy and all.
Suddenly scared of stepping up.
Come on, his entire character got erased and like, what was even the point? It changed absolutely nothing in the entire plot.
My problem with Remadora has nothing to do with the age gap and everything to do with how utterly shit that ship was.
Also I don’t know who you mean by “y’all” cause as far as I’m aware, nobody ships it except for me and the anon who enquired about this.

a big problem with “death of the author” that a lot of people ignore is that the work was written through the author’s very fucked up perspective. jkr wrote through a terfy lense of racism and antisemitism and it shows in the work. it’s still gonna be there regardless of how you relate the author. harmful stereotypes and perspectives don’t just go away because you disown the author/creator, of any book or media. remember that.

the number of people I see publicly supporting piracy (particularly of books) and shoplifting on here is wild tbh
like who do you think you’re hurting when you refuse to pay for books? It sure as shit ain’t the CEO of any big publisher, just like you’re not hurting the Walmart CEO when you shoplift from their stores
the people who suffer financially are always the ones on the bottom, and believe it or not in publishing that’s the authors themselves

You know what is the worst and simultaneously the best thing about Harry Potter?
That it grew along with its target audience.
Books one and two are very clearly children's books, silly at points and not everything has to make sense. But beyond that, they get progressively more serious and there is a plan.
It causes a lot of inconsistencies and as wonderful as it is for the readers to grow alongside the protag, it just causes so many things to be askew and not make sense.

Marauders Fandom > "There is no canon !!" and other rhetorics
Guess who's back in their marauders phase after 2-3 years of being dormant lmao?? ((spoiler its me lol)). Anyways, a lot has changed since 2021 in this fandom so I just wanted to talk about the direction i think it's going.
I remember in 2020-21 the fandom started to boom in popularity on tiktok --> esp with the rise wolfstar + atyd. I remember people were so suprised with remus' characterization as 'rougher around the edges' instead of the 'soft boi' thing, and how that influenced the new wolfstar dynamic. [Just want to add that the atyd characterisation is much more complex than this and its one of my fave fics --> I'm more talking about the fandom at large's reaction to this)
And since fandom is incapable of having two nuanced and characters who are not stark opposites,, their roles were basically reversed and now Remus is the toxic dom alpha male and sirius is the cute girlyboy twink --- which um,,, the oc-ification is so real its embarrassing but whatever (omg don't even get me started on jegulus 💀)). I just assumed these would stay as headcanons. But now we have people saying, that 'we barely know anything abt the marauders in canon' or 'isn't the whole point of fandom to make shit up?' which i have sO many issues with so let me just try and compile my thoughts into dot points for the sake of coherency.
'we barely know anything abt the marauders in canon' ---> First of all, Remus, Sirius and Severus are fully fleshed out characters in the og series -- why do you think people would care enough to create an entire fandom based on their backstories if they were 2d flat characters in canon?? Like bffr. I saw a post on here (forgot who it was by, let me know if u know!) that said, 'I didn't cry over sirius' death in OotP just for ppl to say that we know nothing abt him in canon'. Like, its just mind-boggling to me lol.
'isn't the whole point of fandom to make shit up?' --> Ok y'all. For a fandom to work, there have to be some guidelines, some kind of source material, some point of reference so people can build upon it and make content. I think we can all agree on that. One reason why HP is such a popular place for fandom is the world-building and potential plots/storylines. I see some people argue that jk rowling was a shit writer anyways so might as well contradict everything she says. Now, I don't disagree with that point in particular, Jo is a pretty mediocre writer and a terrible person. HOWEVERrr, I'd argue that it is a lot more fascinating when people expand or work on the concepts in HP. JK Rowling has a lot of great ideas but executes them terribly -- I love when fic writes do this, which prolly explain why I love atyd as it is still very much canon compliant but executes themes on class, disability and queerness that jkr could barely do in subtext. This doesn''t mean I only think canon compliant fics are valid. That's not the case! I think as long as the charcterization is consistent to the character and the particular circumstances/world they're in, its fine! In fact, I love seeing how the same character would function if in a different place! I also love seeing explorations of the magic and magic systems in aus or fix it fics (or even canon compliant ones) that still fit in with the canonnical system that we know.
I guess what I'm trying to say I wish the marauders fandom explored the world and charcterizations more deeply instead of creating shallow oc-fied version of the characters that fit into whatever's trending -- like just write your own book or smth lol -- booktok will eat it up i promise.
Also, kinda related kinda not but um,,, why are we romanticising fascists -- like babe no evan rosier is not your babygirl he canonnoically tortured multiple ppl and became a death eater soo... not saying that I wouldn't want an exploration of his character or even a relationship with barty -- (who's not some cool dairk-haired edgelord but a actually a cowardly fascist murderer with blond hair -- yes the blond hair is important) -- I'd just want them to be portrayed as the not morally good people they are. Like,, if u want to oc-ify a character like pick someone whos not a death eater or has little info on them like dirk cresswell or frank longbottom,,, or ya know,, one of the MANY female characters in the fandom ((This fandom also has a problem with women and sapphic ships in general but that's a whole other issue lol).
I know this 'babygirlification' of death eaters doesn't mean to do this, but it also ends up watering down the themes of oppression, bigotry, etc and leaves us with not nearly as complex characters. Also one of the issues I had with the og HP world is that JK will introduce concepts like wizard racism and slavery and then just like,, not really do anything about it or just have half-arsed redemption arcs whilst not ever actually exploring the root of the issue. And now i feel like the fandom is following in those footsteps unfortunately.
Anyways, i've been rambling for too long so I'll just leave it here. Sorry if this came off as mean spirited in anyway,, I just have a lot of thoughts™ and my family is sick of hearing them lol. These opinions are not set in stone however so I'd love to hear your thoughts on this subject! At the end of the day this is fandom and we're supposed to have fun -- so yeah !! thanks for reading if you made it this far!

So I found you through your batfam/Spiderman fic and I was wondering if you could make a rec list?
Hey there! Thank you for checking out my blog and for reading my fic! I love seeing that you've commented on a chapter in my inbox.
As far as a rec list goes, I've never actually written one before. But I assume you want ones that are specifically spider-man/batman crossovers?
It's a whole new way of looking at [daddy issues] by spaghettiash: This a series of two little one-shots that I absolutely loved. It's another Peter gets transported to the DC universe with Dick Grayson looking exactly like Richard Parker. Love this one.
Help Me, I Don't Feel Like Myself Anymore by Astra_Nova_Kat: This fic was amazing, this was my bookmark comment exactly "I need this, I need this like I need oxygen, like I need love. This is so well written, I could cry. I need it injected into my veins and tattooed on the inside of my eyelids, omg." Again, much like the one above, Peter is transported into the DCU and stumbles across alternate versions of Richard Parker and Ben Parker. I loved it.
Aunt May and the Justice League by Anonymous: This fic is great, if you love the idea of Aunt May being kick ass and -fade to black- sleeping her way through the Justice League in a super classy way, and being such a supportive mum to her dear nephew Peter in the DCU. Very much open relationships, though the main plot doesn't really start to kick in until a few chapters in.
Green, through and through by another_fucking_robin: I love this one, particularly because it's trans Peter Parker. There just aren't enough of them, and when it's well written, it plucks at my heart strings. Plus, the Lazarus Pit is an ally, and I love that for them. This fic just starts off so good, I was in love with it from chapter one.
rot with all the burnouts in the cell by magnuschases: This fic is really entertaining. Like, Dick Grayson, you are the father! And Peter's responses were just great. Awkward grandpa!Bruce will always have my heart.
Singing In My Blood by LialeeEderian: This one is cute. Peter literally falls into Dick Grayson's life. Dick Grayson is clearly his alternate universe dad, and everyone can see it.
a shining spider web by Selador: an alternate spin off of Dark Matter by mysterycyclone. In this fic, the nice guy on the subway that gives him sunglasses during his migraine, clearly Jason Todd, takes him home and adopts him. Very cute and sweet.
Homesick by NotSoSweetHeh: I adore this fic. Peter convinces the Batfam that he's actually an alien, rather than a dimension traveller. Seems easier to him, that way. And it is very easy for him to pull off.
Harry Potter and the Great Custody Battle by dajgen: Okay, say what you will about JKR, she's TERF piece of shit and I hate her. However, I do not hate Dajgen and their work (that would make me a hypocrite, considering my work Wildflowers in the Spring, with is also a HP/DC crossover). Controversial to add a HP related fic, but I feel like I should add it anyway, because I genuinely enjoyed it. It's basically a fic where Harry is related to both Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne. Harry needs them to get out of the Triwizard Tournament. So, a threeway crossover. I won't give anymore spoilers, should you choose to read it.
I hope you liked my picks, I've never actually made one of these before, so I hope I did it right 😅 feel free to hit me up if you want to share your thoughts about my recommendations. I tried to pick fics that were in a similar vein to mine, since I wasn't sure exactly what you were looking for. Thank you for this ask, it was really fun putting this list together! Shout out to all these very talented writers. There's plenty more, but I don't want to inundate you. If you want more recommendations at a later date, feel free to ask me again 💕💕

It really frustrates me when I go into threads about JK Rowling, because there are plenty of legitimate reasons to hate her, but most of the comments are completely made up reasons? Please don't lie and spread misinformation even about people you dislike, because it'll make your own position look weaker under scrutiny.
If you need to lie to make a point, people will think it's because you don't have one. So don't lie in the first place.
Not reasons to hate JKR:
- there is a star of David on the floor of Gringotts bank. This was in the movies, it was not described in the books. Unless evidence comes out that she asked Chris Columbus or whoever for that detail to be included, it is not evidence of antisemitism (that is not to say that the goblins in general aren't problematic though)
- she didn't say Hermione was black all along, she said casting a black actress as Hermione doesn't contradict her description (although it does)
- all the retconning and "oh actually X character was Y all along" after the series has ended. This isn't "problematic", it's just cringe. Nothing to get mad about
- she did not retcon Dumbledore as being gay after the series ended. I distinctly remember this being a topic of discussion while the 6th book was coming out. She didn't include it explicitly in the books, but it wasn't an after-the-fact change (Although it is a valid criticism that not including it explicitly in the books means it isn't representation)
- Seamus Finnegan being a clumsy Irishman who makes things explode. This was in the movies, not the books. In the books it was often Neville who was used for this comic relief
- she's a bad writer. I'm not saying this is incorrect, just that it's not a reason to hate her. People don't deserve hate for being bad at something, she deserves hate because she is a bad person. Please do not conflate these two; it is possible for bad people to make good art and it's possible for good people to make poor art. A lot of this insistence comes from people who used to be big fans of Harry Potter who now that they don't like her any more are now saying "well the books were shit all along anyway..." It just seems performative tbh.
- a trans character in Hogwarts Legacy being named "Sirona Ryan". Honestly this is the biggest stretch I've ever seen. Look - there's plenty of things to criticise about this game. The fact that one of the early writers was apparently a bit fashy and is responsible for the leaning even further into the goblin antisemitism for example. But this one character? I highly doubt JKR even had to approve of details that small, let alone the fact that the name likely isn't problematic at all. If you're reading this and, like me, you have no clue whatsoever what is apparently wrong with the name - it begins with "Sir" - implying that trans women are actually men, and ends with "Aryan" - implying that trans people are nazis. At this point, people are actively looking for things to get mad about even when they're not there. I'm not even sure the "sir" in "Sirona" is even supposed to be pronounced like the English word. How about getting mad about the actual obvious actually harmful things she does instead???
Actual reasons to hate her:
- her transphobic tweets
- the fatphobia in the books
- her transphobic articles
- the whole "Hermione is dumb for being anti-slavery" subplot
- her transphobic actions
- lack of regard for other cultures, whether it's the naming of foreign characters and places, or the fact that the wizarding Irish government apparently still isn't independent of the UK's
- her defending and associating with people more mask-off transphobic than she is
- she is a billionaire, and there are no good billionaires
Inb4 "how dare you defend this bad person" - correcting misinformation about a bad person is not defending them. Good people should also care about intellectual honesty. It isn't good to lie about someone just because the person you're lying about is bad.

I'm sorry if I have hurt you in any way because that was not my intention. I don't really mind who you ship or what you ship. It's just, I open my Tumblr and the first I see is someone calling something I like a crack ship while talking about their favourite ship. My point is why talk badly about something/someone else's ship when you're also shipping something which is also very unrealistic? Like I get it you have a favorite, but you can talk about your favourite without saying someone else's ship is not possible/crack for that matter. My bad if I made you feel bad because I really didn't want to do that. I just didn't want to the see someone bashing my ship as the first thing I see when I open Tumblr. I just don't get why people can't ship their own things without calling others' ship crack. Either ways, I'm sorry you felt attacked honestly; I really respect you as a person and a writer. And that's why I was sad to see you say those stuff. I really liked your fics as well and I love how you write Tom, I really do. That is why I was so surprised to see that post on my feed, but oh well. I do hope you have a good day and again I'm sorry if I made you sad in any way.
I appreciate the apology. I understand that it's not fun to see something that you interpret as critical toward your ship on your dash, however, I did not put that post in the Tomarry tag. If those kinds of posts are upsetting to you, then consider unfollowing me, because when I receive asks, I will answer them with my honest opinion. Coming into my ask box like that is not appropriate.
I'm just scratching my head here, because tbh that wasn't an anti post? To say that Tomarry requires a reimagining of canon or that there are plenty of things they could dislike about each other is not me saying it's a shit ship. Drarry's my OTP after all, lol, hate = spice. I also didn't call it crack, though I don't think crack is an insult either. Most Tom ships are crackish to some extent, especially ships that require an AU for the characters to even be the same age (Tomarry, Tomione, Taco, etc.). Harry Potter x the dude who tried to kill him a bajillion times is pretty implausible to most people, but that doesn't make it a 'bad' ship. You can make any ship work and there are many, many writers who have brought more life to Tomarry than Canon Hinny received from JKR (before someone else comes for me, this isn't a Hinny critique either, this is a critique of JKR's ability to write romance lol)
This is what I've said on Tomarry and Taco previously.
Tumblr media
^FYI this was a joke
Finally, it isn't your ship vs mine. I've shipped Tomarry longer than I've shipped Taco. I'll ship Tom with a pair of snakeskin loafers if I thought they'd have chemistry. I can ship something without singing its praises endlessly. In fact, I reckon I've said way meaner things about Taco on here than Tomarry lol. I've said that Tom would loathe Draco under most circumstances and that he would murder him for sure since lil bro can't stop yapping. I've also said Draco is ugly an acquired taste and Tom has no game 💀. My DAD has come to Draco's defence over some of the things I said about him as we were watching the movies. Roasting is my love language, pls don't misunderstanding it.

I can't decide between 4, 6 or 7 which is the worse ron. Honestly can't. 6th year ron strings Hermione along knowing they like each other, but purposely goes for Lavender. Than gets annoyed with Lavender by the end, and instead of dumping her he says Hermione's name. All while getting annoyed with Hermione for going out with that Cormac guy. 4th year he gets jealous that Harry is in a life or death situation and abandons him, ruins Hermione's first dance and date. Used Hermione as a last resort for a date to the yule ball, and got annoyed with her when she already had a date and assumed no one asked her. Or 7th year, made promise to stick with Harry during Horcrux hunting but fucked off when it got too hard. Got jealous of Hermione and Harry, only liked Hermione as a sorta prize to be won to prove he was better than Harry, than came back like everything is ok with a bullshit apology.
Ron gets progressively worse the older he gets
He treats Hermione like shit from the beginning, when they become “friends” he always treats her as if her time and attention is owed to him, like she’s supposed to always be there. It starts small with “Hermione will always give me homework to copy” and progresses to “She’ll be available for the Ball when every other girl will reject me” and “She’ll wait for me to want her in a relationships” as he ages.
Also, Ron is the epitome of “weaponized incompetence” and it’s infuriating to me how many times he uses it to get Hermione to do smth for him/instead of him.
Ron is extremely jealous of EVERYONE around him. And this trait gets progressively worse with his age too. In book 1 he is envious of Harry’s new broom, but he’s still capable to be happy for him as well. By book 4 he looses all traces of empathy and compassion and is envious of smth Harry 1) clearly had nothing to do with and everyone with brain would be able to tell, 2) could literally result in his death and it was stated EXPLICITLY many times. But all he sees is “Harry is the center of attention again” and treats him like shit for it. Not once was Harry ever happy or seeking for any sort of fame or recognition, especially considering WHAT he’s famous for.
Also in Book 4 he’s angry and feeling betrayed by Hermione HAVING A GOOD TIME. He’s threatened by someone else being in her life at all, someone she clearly likes and interested in. Because how could it be, that she dares to spend time with anyone else! The traitor! Honestly, I would’ve punched him square in the face for the shit he poured on her at the Yule Ball.
I consider him “sticking with Harry” in book 5 to be 1) I just screwed up, I can’t again or this time it’ll be for good and I can’t manage on my own bcs I’m that useless, plus 2) it’s us against the world! Harry is finally on the other side of famous and it’s so cool. Maybe not entirely conscious on his part, but I do believe these were the reasons for him, similar as they were in Book 2
In book 6 he’s truly shown to grow into a misogynistic asshole. He slut shames his sister for kissing a boy (if I recall he started doing it in Book 5, bit in 6 he’s off the rails with it), he once again shames and guilts Hermione for being asked out by someone else, he uses Lavender to get back at her (Lavander deserved so much better from the narrative overall, but we already established that JKR hated women). And he treats Lavander like shit through all of it! Ronald Weasley is the asshole of a first boyfriend that you drag through mud with your girlfriends for years to come because he was THAT HORRIBLE
And then the ultimate abandonment in book 7… if the writer would be even slightly better, he wouldn’t have returned and these would be a good arc of “not all friendship survives the hardships, or even just time. Not all friends will be with you forever”. Which is an important message for young people, because everyone always believe that they’ll be best friends forever for the entire life but it so rarely works. And it’s normal, that it doesn’t. There doesn’t have to be a grand betrayal or falling out, sometimes your paths just lead you to very different places. Ron didn’t betray them in the sense that Peter betrayed the Marauders (which we still don’t have any real reason for by the way. She just wrote that it happened with NOTHING supporting it backing up that plot), he didn’t switch sides. He just left. Because while Harry and Hermione understood the reality and graveness of war and their situation, Ron still treated it as “an adventure”, he “played in war” if you will. Many like to claim that “it was all the horcrux that he was wearing! It made him feel this and say this!” - both Hermione and Harry wore it too. Even longer than Ron, who didn’t wear it while his wounds healed. The horcrux didn’t put these thoughts in his head, it played off of what was already there. Did it exhilarate and magnified it? Yes, of course. But it was all already in his mind before he ever put the locket on. All of these thoughts and tendencies could’ve been found throughout all other books. And that’s why I never bought into his return, it didn’t feel organic with the rest of the story. It made no sense. She put it there simply bcs she decided that “trio must remain” and that Hermione will end up with him, for some reason that is beyond my understanding

Man PinkNews really can't stay away from Jo for too long lol, they're back at it again with more slander, this time with a supposed like of a pretty offensive tweet. And as always people are eating it all up.
Now I went to check and that supposed like wasn't there which makes me think it's fake(either that or much like few years ago when she liked and then unliked that one tweet-I forget what was it about, and if her like was real then it could be the same case again, an acidental like).
But like, I really don't get these people...I get it, they hate her, but why make up stuff? Is it cause perhaps normies are waking up and seeing that Jo isn't this evil person the likes of PinkNews and TRAs are trying to paint her as...it's so weird.
Well they can't exactly go and talk about anything wrong she would have actually done, can they, since when you look up what Jo really does with her money it's all charity and paying her taxes. We're still waiting on that list of anti-trans organisations she would have supposedly funded or donated to - you'd think they would line up to claim her patronage, and yet! Crickets! Strange, isn't it?
So they are reduced to this: dishonesty, defamation, and just making shit up when they run out of ideas. Take this week's example of what has the gendiboos shitting themselves: Jo liking a darkly humourous tweet saying "at least the Talibans know what a woman is". Someone tried to paint that as a) original tweeter was supporting the Talibans (yes, in this era where people can just say "kill yourself" to a celebrity over them claiming to like raisins); b) JKR herself implicitly supports the Talibans by proxy because she liked the tweet. Now, the person who said that claims to have received a cease and desist order. Gee, why would that ever happen??
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
… Yeah, i guess Jo's a little sensitive about that particular brand of defamation of her character. It's almost like, unlike these bozos, she actually cares about hate crimes against women.
Honestly i wish she'd actually take them to court, just once. She would absolutely wipe the floor with them and that would set the record straight for any more who wants to try her. And i'm not even saying that with her sake in mind tbh.
But for the sake of the ACTUAL WOMEN IN THE MIDDLE EAST SUFFERING THROUGH ISLAMIC REGIMES RIGHT THE FUCK NOW.
Like hey!! guys, gals and nonbinary pals! Maybe… just maybe?? we shouldn't use victims of horrible religious tyranny as pawns in some stupid gender wars?? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I know we're all convinced in our heart of hearts that JK Rowling is a big bad meanie, but maybe we could act like the better people we pretend to be for once and treat this topic with the seriousness it warrants?? ufuckingwu!
And since i had the unpleasant surprise to see that in the tag this morning: same thing with Ukraine. No, JK Rowling is not friend with Putin, she has actually helped Ukrainian refugees since the start of the war, and the fucking Harry Potter store being maybe still up in Moscow on Google Maps is the last of Ukraine's problems even if she had the actual power to shut it down (assuming GM's infos are even actualised).
Like, i can sort of laugh it out when these idiots make up bullshit about the Goblins being antisemitic caricatures. (Except, it's not actually funny, not when you take two seconds to think about the implications that a whole generation of people apparently think that this is what antisemitism is, OR, care so little about antisemitism that they are happy to pretend that this is it.) It's a whole 'nother business to pick victims of current wars and religious extremism and make up a story about how it's all some writer you don't like's fault. Those are real people ffs. Whom JKR is tangibly helping. What the fuck is Pink News doing for them, hmm? Not even showing them an OUNCE of decency and respect, that's what.
Anyways, apologies for this outburst. To answer your question : why do they do it? Hatred. Hatred is the point. It goes nowhere deeper than this i'm afraid.

I’m not sure if I ever asked you this question or not, but I’ve always wanted to: how do you come to the conclusions you do about the characters in Twilight and other works?
Actually I guess my question is how do I learn to do it myself lol
Is there a way I can train myself to? Is it just that you take a story and start digging? Did something just seem off about the characters and you took a bigger look at it?
I’m an aspiring writer, which is why I want to know; I feel like it would make me better in my own writing if I could do the things you do, because, well… you’re rather good authors, you and Vinelle I mean.
Frankly, Painting Red Madonnas is one of my favorite books ever.
Anyway… thank you lol
Look, @therealvinelle, praise!
It just seems to be the way I'm wired. I don't even realize it's heresy until I hear other people talking about the same thing and realize "well, shit, I can't talk about this at Christmas parties". There's a lot of, "Muffin, what did you think of X?" "... I thought generic normal things that wouldn't offend anyone's blorbo."
I guess I can give some pointers on how I end up in the bizarre places I do:
Completely Ignore the Existence of the Author
Much of the time it's obvious why Character X does Y in a piece of media and you can point fingers at the author. The author loves this trope, the producers wanted to draw in a certain audience, doing Z would be much too spicy for the viewership, etc.
In the @therealvinelle and Muffin world, that's not allowed. The work has to make internal sense with internal logic. Which means that if something doesn't seem right or doesn't match up, you have to find a reason for why it is what it is.
More, you can't take the author's word for what a character is supposed to be or what they're supposed to be doing and thinking.
As a rough example, JKR clearly tells us that Dumbledore is a good man and a firmly moral character. However, within the story, he does very questionable things all the time (I'm actually struggling to think of anything he did that is remotely moral).
So, you can't take the author's word for anything.
Characters Can and Do Lie
All narrators are on some level unreliable. They each have an agenda, their own biases, their own goals and desires that sometimes conflict with what's actually happening in the world. You view things through the narrator so always take what they say with a grain of salt.
Take Bella Swan, she tells us that Jessica Stanley is the worst. That Jessica is only interested in Bella to further her own ends and is, at the end of the day, a cheap friend who is envious of everything Bella has and is (such as Mike's attraction to Bella).
However, if we discount Bella for a moment and really take a look at Jessica. While the girl is chatty and does talk about things like the Cullens, her gossip is the normal amount I'd expect if someone looks incestuous in high school and she always makes an effort to be with Bella.
What Bella conveys to us, the readers, is a very skewed perception of Jessica framed entirely by Bella.
We hear only what the narrator wishes for us to hear.
Another is the Tom Riddle memories. We later learn why Dumbledore is doing this, he is dying and needs Harry to eventually kill himself so as to rid the world of Voldemort. To this end, the memories are very carefully selected and narrated to show Tom Riddle as the worst human being on the planet who is irredeemably evil and must be killed at all costs.
Harry doesn't ever question this, though, because he takes Dumbledore at face value and eagerly considers himself a Dumbledore loyalist. And so, if you don't think to question Harry, you'll never question just why Albus would ever do this.
Similarly, characters can be wrong and misinformed. They have access only to certain information, covered by bias, which means it's entirely possible they could be incorrect about something even if they firmly believe it.
Look at What the Characters Actually Say and Do
Ignore what you're supposed to think about the characters (either from other people, the author, or the characters themselves) and instead look at what they say and what they do to inform your opinion about them.
What does Edward actually say about his grand love with Bella Swan? What is it that actually seems to draw him to her from his own perspective and from what he tells to Bella?

Sorry to hit you up again with a seemingly very similar question, but I thought you might have an interesting read on this stance of mine:
Do you think the Horde, or more the Orcs, redemption is undercut by the very story meant to be about redeeming them, IE Warcraft 3?
Because, if we break it down to its components parts its:
The Orc have made the land they are currently on un-liable thanks to their war mongering ways. They leave for a new land and begin killing the indigenous denizens, align themselves with a put upon local factions, and then try to take over, killing off or driving everyone else out.
Its the same thing with the only notable differences being the type of magic the orcs use and the fact the Kalimdorians couldn't organize a sufficient resistance to push the Horde out. Obviously its not intended to be read this way, IE the "Playable species are people and the mobs are not" thing, but it still feels egregious.
The Alliance also have some of this in their backstories, IE, "Gnolls & Kobolds were among the first threats face by humans when expanding into this region but they were pacified." Which is uh... A lot.
Yes.
Like. The problem you're going to run into is that Warcraft doesn't just have racism as part of the worldbuilding, but the worldbuilding is itself racist. It is racist.
Now, it's possible for something to be racist and still well written. Obvious example is Lovecraft. There's easily half a dozen authors who I love because they are good writers, who are also shitbags in one way or another, and I cope with that.
Unfortunately Blizzard is not good writers, and the writing is not good, and you can see this in ways like "did not realize they were writing racistly, continued doing it".
So I don't find this a very productive approach? We just end up going "oh wow this plotline is also racist" which shit dude, they sure are. A lot of the racism in Warcraft is particularly obnoxious because it's just Racism 101. This isn't even advanced stuff it's right out there in the fucking open.
The problem is there's only so much redaction of the racism I can do before it's no longer Warcraft. If I wanted to completely rework the world so it was no longer racist on a Doylist level, I'd just write my own original fic.
It's like. I also don't have a lot of interest in pulling out examples of sexism from Harry Potter. They're all over, not just because JKR was writing a sexist society, but because she has a lot of internalized misogyny she's never unpacked. But I'd rather dig into that, write with the crappy worldbuilding and politics and see what falls out when I shake it.
So yeah, it's fucking racist. Now what?

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💙
Omg I love this ask so much 🥰
1. Not Enough to Save You: (Wolfstar) Look, don’t ask me how many times I’ve reread my Remus Lupin is Joan of Arc fic. I feel like this needs no other pitch. Remus Lupin is Joan of Arc. Sirius is a princess who falls in love with her. The pen was on fire the entire time I was writing this. I’m really proud of the prose all the way through, especially the smut. If my chef’s special is smut described through beautiful figurative language, this fic is my 5 Michelin star tasting menu.
2. Tough, Tried, True Blue: (Wolfstar) The long fic of my heart!!! My pitch for this fic is that the next time you get the urge to comfort reread the Harry Potter books, you should read this instead. I’m basically writing the kids books I would have wanted to read that would have saved me a lot of time figuring out that I liked girls. It’s simultaneously deeply nostalgic about the OG books and deeply hostile towards JKR.
3. stupid and alive: (AFTG) So this fic is basically a courtroom drama and I’m the lawyer and Nora Sakavic is the witness and I cross examine her until she breaks on the stand Legally Blonde style. Except it’s actually just a deep character study of Andrew Minyard. I reread this a little while ago, and I don’t want to brag, but that is the point of this ask so. The prose in this fic fucking rips. Like, I was really on some shit. I also think the therapy scene in chapter two is some of my favorite dialogue I’ve ever written. I had a point to make and I made it, everyone clapped.
4. The College Years: (The Atlas Six) Of course I have a soft spot for this fic because it was the first fic I ever wrote and it was co-written with @capacity-for-wonder. We had too much fun writing this, and everyone should read it and then gaslight Mel into thinking that she enjoys writing! She’s very good at it! Essentially I wanted to write The Raven Cycle but Maggie Steifvater already did that so I had to write this instead as the next best thing. The fact that we wrote this before reading any marauders fic is unbelievable, because this is also basically a marauders fic. If you like TRC and Marauders fic you should absolutely read this. You don’t even have to read Atlas Six first, because it’s a prequel.
5. Immaculate Conception (Girls Kissing Remix) (Wolfstar) Sapphic horror fever dream based on an AU from Claude’s (@achilleslikespeas) incredible brain? Yes please! This fic is like a little Neapolitan ice cream treat. The vanilla is sapphic Wolfstar, the chocolate is a demon baby, and the strawberry is religion. They finger bang in the church basement! Need I say more?

Can you talk more about the "doing harm" thing or share some reads you like about it? Everyone seems to have a different definition and I struggle with the difference of what's offensive to an individual vs harmful to a community
My sense of this is something that I have developed over the course of years, based on reading fairly widely about systemic oppression, boundary setting, activist organizing, and interpersonal dynamics. And for me it never stops developing as I continue to reflect more and see how various takes on the topic play out in various communities.
I don't have any specific resources to recommend that spell out how to develop that sense per se, because that all comes down to personal discernment, but I would encourage people to read authors whose analysis of systemic oppression is firmly rooted in anti-capitalism and abolitionism. If someone's perspective on social justice is not rooted in collective liberatory work, then it's just using identity as a means of selling a personal brand a lot of the time.
Writers that i've gotten a lot from include: bell hooks, Angela Davis, Rabbi Ruti Reagan, Aubrey Gordon, Emma Dabiri, Captain Awkward, Koa Beck, and Julia Serano. Some of these writers are more explicitly political than others, but even the ones who are more focused on social norms and boundaries (like Captain Awkward and Ruti Reagan) take a focus that is pretty targeted and practical.
Ultimately, you are gonna disagree with people sometimes about what is harmful. For example, I do not think thought crimes or emotion crimes are a thing. I don't even really think taste or media consumption crimes are a thing. My sister is eagerly playing the new harry potter game right this very moment and I fully do not give a shit. I would rather that she find a way to pirate it so that she wasn't compensating JKR by playing it, enriching JKR is undeniably harmful, but I have zero interest in convincing her not to like a media property, because in her personal conduct she is the only stalwart advocate I have in my family, and I've seen the positive impact that she has on the queer kids at the high school where she works.
my sister's real-life impact on the world matters to me a lot more than her liking this stupid ass game, enough for me to not choose this particular battle. I don't think fighting with her about it would bring any good into the world. In fact, it would drive us apart and make my life, her life, and our mother's life significantly worse. I could understand why people would disagree with me or handle their own affairs differently.
I think broadly speaking most of the social justice oriented internet has wildly lost any reasonable sense of scale or priority as well as tactics on a variety of matters, so we wind up creating tensions within our communities over smaller or symbolic forms of harm even when that makes it more difficult for us to tackle more significant sources of harm in a shared way. my sister cares about trans people, she fights for abortion rights, she's anti cop enough to have persuaded someone close to her not to go to the police academy, and she also is a potter enjoying disney adult. i love her to pieces and im so glad she is alive and i know she's a net positive on this earth. i dont think me haranguing her over her media habits leads to her having a better impact on this earth, and i know it would fuck my life up.
that said, i can't determine what is harmful (or on what scale it is harmful) for anybody else. many people would be very reasonably torn up over their beloved trans friendly sibling still being interested in playing the mega terf antisemitism game. that's all real, and that game and the person who birthed its IP are truly terrible. but i tend to see even the problem of harry potter's success as being a systemic one not an individual choice driven one, so. in this case it's one i let go of.

A proper introduction.
Hello Audience,
I have been on tumblr for a couple of years and from time to time, I've rebranded. But I don't think I've ever done a proper, thorough, introduction. But since I am trying to make a career out of being a writer and I am also trying to make it my main income, I've decided it's time you all get to know me a bit.
So, My name is J.R Moon, well, it's the name I'm telling you all, of course.
I use he/they/hyr pronouns, I don't really have a preference for a set.
I'm Soulaan (Black American)
I have Autism, Hypersomnia, Anxiety and Chronic Pain
I'm Queer and Polyamorous*
And just an overall nerd.
I've always wanted to be a writer, but as y'all know, it's hard out here. I publish my works independently on Lulu and Etsy and I also do freelance writing!
But also, I know books can be expensive and not everyone has the money to buy a book. On top of that, not everyone has access to an expansive library, so I also post black queer literature on Wattpad! For free!
I write all kinds of fantasy, high fantasy, urban fantasy, cozy fantasy, you name it. I also write superhero stories, kind of like the one I have published now!
I write stories for:
black nerds who rarely get to see themselves in fantasy
Chronic pain besties who are tired of the magical healing trope
Polyamorous individuals who want to see their relationship dynamic represented
Queer people who are tired of the "bury your gays" trope.
Anyone who's interested in reading what I write!
I don't want to interact with you if:
Dislike weird/complex identities. I'm not in the business of identity discourse.
You don't think the publishing industry has a racism problem.
You're pro-is*ael
If you're pro-MAP/Pro-Zoo any of that nasty shit
If you're elitist and don't think graphic novels/visual novels/interactive novels/audiobooks/fanfiction count as reading.
If you support/dickride for problematic authors such as JKR or SJM.
