I was at the edge of my seat for most of it. Beautifully drawn, perfectly set with music and pacing and i am just...wow. That was better than any movie i have seen recently. Perfect.

PS: The snakes were so cute. I love that they have personalities.

Speedrunning catching up on the mens short program :)

Conrad Orzel - look as far as canadian men go, conrad basically lived

Aleksa Rakic - jumps didn't really happen but the rest of the program was really nice honestly

Liam Kapeikis - There's potential there for sure but also this program was just kinda A Choice™, idk if it was liam or his team but maybe not the greatest idea they've ever had.

Mikhail Shaidorov - MATRIX PROGRAM!!! like yeah it was kinda messy but to pull that off on your first comp back after injury is honestly pretty solid

Wesley Chiu - shame about the axel but he really brought the energy to the rest of the program

Mihhail Selevko - oh mihhail... it wasn't a bad program but the fall on the quad just set it all up wrong :(

Sota Yamamoto - LOVE THIS SP!!! a couple of small errors but overall really great to watch

could we not have given him .5 more points though 😔

Kao Miura - oh kao :((( he's so good, that pop was just so unfortunate :((((((((

Matteo Rizzo - honestly i'm just so glad he didn't let the jump errors demoralise him, he put on such a good performance for the rest of the program

Kazuki Tomono - what kind of cursed ice is this that KAZUKI OF ALL PEOPLE fell on the step sequence 😭😭😭

fr though i love this program, it brings me so much joy, and even with a fall kazuki is out-performing everyone

Junhwan Cha - the fall on the 4T was so unfortunate, like he had it, it was rotated, it was landed, and then it wasn't 😭😭😭

another program i absolutely adore this season though, jun you will always be famous (and glad he looks in good spirits about it)

in conclusion: absolute trainwreck of an event even by men's standards 🙃

Just wanting to tell you that your percy jackson fic is perfect, i really love the idea of Nico knowing the future. Theres really none time travel fics in the tag. Also, im thinking on drawing gorgon!Nico so if you can be more expecific on Nicos looks ill thank you.

i'd truely love to see any fanart of gorgon nico! it would make my dreams come true. so the look of nico is similiar to Medusa - the prequel by Jun Chiu on youtube. the snakes are black, not green, with two main snakes that take care of him having blue-green and purple scales on their heads. nico's eyes will be black and yellow.

the colours something like this with two main bigger snakes on either sides of his head. the snakes aren't small, they're long and very messy. as nico is still going through the change right now, once he has finished, he will be a year or two older. he'll be shorter then percy, about his shoulder height? the snakes have no fangs or venom. in the video, they will be able to make to move nico like that in time, so they're also strong.

BL Actor Guest Cameos! 

I’m choosing only leads or mains or icons showing up in other shows. 

A Man Who Defies the Wold of BL 2 feat Izuka Kenta from the Pornographer (AKA the Novelist) series - I love this one because he’s an iconic character in the Novelist, a college kid seduced and gaslit by an older man, where as in ABL2 he plays the opposite, a seductive older man who messes around with the heart of a younger one. Japan is, as usual, being very trixy. (He ALSO shows up in Ameiro Paradox) 

Kieta Hatsukoi AKA My Love Mix-Up! feat Shirasu Jin from Life Love On The Line - Japan being cheeky again by putting an actor who perviously played a character who could not come to terms with his sexuality, having a real hard time coming to terms with someone else’s sexuality this time around. 

Secret Crush on You feat Saint from Love By Chance & Why R U? (Thailand) - yes he’s got a producer credit, it was still fun to see him pop in and smile. 

Cutie Pie feat BounPrem from Until We Meet Again (+others) - they came, they shilled for marriage equality in Thailand, they conquered. 

What’s Zabb Man feat Bas from 2 Moons (+others) - yes, Thailand’s Star Hunter studio does a lot of crossovers, but I found this one particularly amusing. 

SOTUS S feat Gun (for OffGun) at the time from Puppy Honey (Thailand) - it was just amusing to see OffGun show up in their nascent form. 

Plus and Minus feat Akihiro Kawai & Lance Chiu from See You After Quarantine? (Taiwan) - they even snuck in the name Haru (the fake name that started the romance in SYAQ) but they clearly aren’t playing the same characters. 

Plus and Minus feat Arron Lai & Hank Wang from Be Loved in House I Do (Taiwan) - ostensibly playing different characters but only JUST. 

Nobleman Ryu's Wedding feat Lee Sang from Wish You (Korea) - this was really cheeky since he was previously paired with the same lead, in other words this was a cameo of “the other man”. 

Ocean Likes Me feat Park Bum Jun from Behind Cut (Korea) just looking gorgeous in the background of a crowd scene. I mean, I get it, why not? 

Mark from Bite Me and Love By Chance popping in to play an actor member of the cat tribe in Meow Ears Up, he also showed up in love 

Mechanics as the momentary love interest for Nuea we all actually wanted to see happen. 

About Youth feat Wilson Liu from HIStory 3: MODC & HIStory 4 as a senior student speaking English.

Choco Milk Shake feat Yeon Seung Ho from Long Time No See (Wild Dog) as the one good ex-boyfriend. 

I dithered over Mean and Prem in The Yearbook, but then decided not to bother. Kinda my general feelings about that show. 

And... 

BL Character Crossover Cameos! 

Since characters are IP this is a much more dangerous territory. Often you’ll notice they aren’t called by name, or the name is spelled differently than the original. But we ALL KNOW what’s going on here. 

Why R U? feat TeeFuse, the main characters from Make it Right (Thailand). 

Why R U? feat TharnType, the main characters from TharnType (Thailand).

Korea also got in on the game and had MaxNat (whose couple originated in WRU?) appear in their remake of Why R U? as a background couple. Very clever.  

Tan & Dr Bun the leads from Manner of Death (MaxTul) in Triage the series (Thailand) - this is a full on character couple cross over, named (and married) and authorized, and rare to see. It’s because the same author is responsible for both source y-novels. 

HIStory 3 Make Our Days Count feat Cheng Qing from HIStory Stay Away From Me (Taiwan) - he’s not named, but he is referred to as an idol and he alludes to his secret relationship so I think we can assume he’s the same character. 

The side dishes from HIStory 3 Make Our Days Count (they got engaged) show up and get married in HIStory 4 Close To You. Which was cute. It’s a bit more than a cameo spanning several episodes, but it was very fun to see. And they play the same characters. 

Be Loved in House I Do feat Hao Ting from HIStory 3 Make Our Days Count (Taiwan) - I think we can assume from the advice he gives that this is the same character on the, shall we call it, Taiwanese timeline as opposed to... 

My personal favorite, Hao Ting & Xi Gu (in an alternate timeline and billed only as Taiwanese tourists) from HIStory 3 Make Our Days Count (Taiwan) showing up at the end of Life Love On The Line (Japan) in the only known country cross over of BL characters. I love the irony of this, since apparently took Japan (NOTORIOUS for it’s unhappy and dark BL endings) to give these two an actual happy ever after. 

For once, we all preferred the Japanese ending. 

And then they did it AGAIN in Plus & Minus. 

And AGAIN in Kisseki: Dear to Me! 

Honestly it feels like, sometimes, Taiwan is constantly trying to apologize for HIStory 3 Make Our Days Count with all these cameos, WHICH THEY SHOULD. 

In Thailand it’s director Cheewin who likes to do this a lot. He’s also very cheeky in Y-Destiny doing a love triangle (sort of) between YoonLay (YYY’s KnottPunn) and PerthLay (My Engineer’s RamKing) as one of the story arcs - making his pair (from YYY) the “winners.” 

He got ahead of himself by featuring the main couples for Middleman’s Love in Cutie Pie but then JimmyTommy pulled out. So this is a very brief look at a series that never was (in this form?) crossing over. 

Like faux crossover.  

However, TutorYim, also from Cutie Pie, show up very briefly in Jun & Jun as friends of Simon for no apparent reason. 

When Korea goes all on of a trope they really, the same year all their crossover couples started to appear (2023) they also had Love Class original couple show up in Love Class 2. 

Honorable mention to Ae’s Tote from Thai BL Love By Chance getting a cameo appearance in Taiwanese BL About Youth.

Personal recap Skate America 2022 - Men FS

A typical men competition comes to close...

Congratulations to Ilia on his first GP win! 🎉

I think there was no doubt after Yuma's withdrawal that Ilia Malinin would win. He has the quad arsenal and more stability than the other skaters in his jumps that winning wasn't surprising. His SP placement was more of a surprise than his win in the end. Ilia did well under pressure and for this I am happy for him.

The 4A looked so easy, it's incredible. You really have to applaud him for his jump ability. I just really wish it would be more than just that. His steps are rather slow, linking elements are rare...the PCS are not as high as I feared but still looking at other skaters (Roman!!!) with much better concept and skating skills it is still too high...but as my hopes were even lower I take that 😅...

Kao Miura - admitted if someone is skating to Beauty and the Biest I will like it anyway so maybe my view on the program is a bit less harsh than on Ilia's. Kao overall has a bit of the same problems as Ilia - good jumper but lacks complete package though imo his working with music in general is more than Ilia's (Japan Open was better in that regard imo). Kao's jumps are tremendous, I think he also has better flow out of the jumps than Ilia and without the 4Lo fall Kao even might have won the competition, it wasn't that far off in the end. Kao has to work on spins and steps as he is getting quite low levels for it. If he can clean those up he will be a force this way he loses out on "easy" points. Still massive success for Kao! Congratulations Kao! 🎉

Jun 😍😍😍😍

Junhwan Cha's ina bauer is just a dream. Really no one does it more beautiful than him. This Bond program is a great program for him. His first 3 jumps were just tremendous. I think the 3A fall took away a lot of his stamina as he fought really hard for the rest of the program. (only one thing that always disturbs me is the long 3A setup otherwise I love Jun's skating) I really hope Jun can make it to the GPF! 🙏

Daniel Grassl is showing the usual Grassl again...it's not a complete package...I know a FS is more demanding and it's like this for a lot of skaters, but I think the choreography doesn't hide it at all. I think it's a Benoit Richaud program again for him and I dunno maybe Richaud is running out of ideas for Grassl but this looked rather dull in choreography...in general where you can say about Ilia that he is a very good technician with Daniel I always wonder how he even makes the quads. I am not one of those technique nerds who focus on that but with Daniel his way of jumping with heavy leg wrap make sit look like he is wobbling through them. My positive impression after the SP went a bit awry...sorry Daniel...

Roman Sadovsky - why oh why does he always make stupid mistakes? 😩😩😩 Roman skates lovely, has superb spins, nice interpretation of music and when his jumps work they are beautiful, but then he always loses on the little points and the 3A is really a problem on his own. It seems to me like a 50% chance he makes it...he rarely lands both 3As in one FS...it's such a shame. 5th place is not the worst he could have gotten but still...I root so much for Roman that I cannot help being disappointed 😥

I will just point out some other highlights for me:

Koshiro Shimada with the 5th best free skate redeemed himself in the free. I am really relieved. Love that Charlie Chaplin program for him.

Wesley Chiu has some soft skating. If he steadily goes into the direction he has now - upgrading his jumps but still having a connection to the program - I look forward to see what he can do in the future.

Donovan Carillo is always a joy to see. Shame that the jumps didn't work as planned but you cannot help but root for him. 😊

Lastly some encouraging words towards Mihhail Selevko and Sena Miyake. I am so sorry how it turned out for them. They both are talented each in their own way. I hope they can both leave that experience behind and come back strong next time.

Welcome back to me being insane about figure skating, as if it ever left

The men had such a good short program the other day, which I just watched, and tonight/tomorrow depending on what time zone we’re all in is the free skate aaaaaaaa

Predictions/hopes:

At this point, it’s Yuma’s to lose, and I hope he doesn’t, because I love everything about his skating and am so happy he’s back. He makes the jumps look smooth and easy as anything, his skating skills and footwork are phenomenal, and he’s really becoming such a committed performer. He’d have to make a lot of mistakes in the free to not end up winning, but he doesn’t usually make mistakes at all, so I’m really quite excited to just watch him be wonderful

Shun Sato’s in second place after another really great short program. I’m not so attached to him or his skating, but he’s very good and if he stays in second place and gets a medal, it’ll be well earned

Junhwan Cha is back! Hopefully he’s fully healed. I know it’s worth fewer points, but I kinda missed the Lutz-loop and was happy to see the old friend, and also that he’s being smart about what he can do cleanly and get good GOE on rather than swinging for the elusive quad toe in the short program. But a “mouthwatering quad salchow” as the commentator said lol. I love his skating, he does so well at the sort of classical but dramatic programs, especially that step sequence, and Masquerade Waltz is close to my heart because I once danced to it. I’d be so happy if he could medal here

Then in fourth is Sota Yamamoto, also a great skater. He skates a little too measured and methodical for that jazzy short program, but you can tell he really enjoys it, so, follow your dreams. He’s less than a point behind Junhwan, so he might move up after the free, and I’d be happy for him, although I do have my favorites still

Boyang Jin is also back! He was also so good, and what a great response from the home audience, that must have been an amazing feeling. It would be delicious if he could medal here, although it’s not suuuuuper likely, unless more than one person ahead of him makes significant mistakes

Then most everybody else actually had kind of a rough short program, except Roman Sadovsky (at least by Romsky standards). He landed a quad! Underrotated, I think, but didn’t pop or fall, and in the combination and the Axel he doubled things that he wanted to be triples, but again stayed on his feet and didn’t invalidate the element, so! Thank God.

Also Wesley Chiu who’s in 6th did pretty well, but whoo those jumps were scary, and he’s pretty unlikely to have a clean free skate because he just doesn’t really do clean free skates, but maybe he’ll surprise us

Ideal, pipe dream podium would be Yuma gold, Junhwan silver, and Boyang bronze, but that’s fairly unlikely, and also I don’t want to watch Shun and Sota fail hard enough for that to happen, so. Realistic, likely podium is Yuma gold, Shun silver, and either Jun or Sota bronze

Or something else entirely could happen, you never know!
