Carmy isn’t good at hookups. Especially after spectacularly fucking it up with Claire, a girl he knew deep down was probably his soulmate, he was feeling pretty fucking gross about the whole thing. He doesn’t deserve it, he doesn’t deserve any of it, and pumping his loneliness into his pastry chef probably isn’t a great idea either. It felt so good in the moment, his hands wrapped around her throat and in her hair, pouring it all out into the messy thrusts. He just thought about how he wasn’t good enough for this, and was just a broken, broken person.

You knew it wasn’t supposed to mean anything, and you’d heard whispers about Claire in the kitchen between Carmen and Ritchie, and obviously there was a history there. You had tried to pry the story out of Sydney, but she was all tight-lipped about the whole thing, not wanting to “gossip” at work. In reality, you knew she knew Claire and had heard more about what had happened on opening night, and probably just didn’t want to repeat the story to anyone. You could respect it, but at the same time, you needed to know how deep this shit went before you started being your boss’s rebound.

The kitchen that afternoon when you come in for your shift is awkward, to say the least. You ignore him, he ignores you, but it’s tense. When he sees you, all he sees is your lips hung open, moans escaping against his skin, his loose gold chain between your teeth as he plunges into you, over and over and over and…

“Behind, Jeff! Fuck, what is up with you today? Your mind is somewhere else,” Tina breaks him out of his daydream, watching as you ice the dessert in front of you, focusing on the even layers of chocolate buttercream. And you’re not laughing, no, because you don’t know if he’s daydreaming about you or still has his mind on Claire, and even though you may have a big ego, it’s not big enough to think he’s distracted by you at work. It was one fuck, one night, one mistake between two coworkers that you’d never speak of again.

“Outside, now, chef,” he’s suddenly at your station, looming over you just as you were getting lost in the frosting. “I’m fucking busy, Carm-“ you started, before his hand came down on the stainless steel beside you, gripping the edge of the counter. “Now, chef. Please.” You place the offset spatula on the clean plate beside your cake, glaring at him as you walked out back. He immediately pulled out a cigarette to put between his lips, letting the chilled air hit the bare skin of his arms. “What the fuck do we do?” he asks, more into the air than directly to you. You tighten your apron around your waist, crossing your arms over your chest. “Probably fuckin’ prep for service and serve rich assholes some marinated radishes. What the fuck else would we be doing?”

“Don’t be stupid,” he says, and it’s sharper than he intends. “No, I mean,-“ “Look, you’re the one who left in the middle of the night, alright? You’re the one who snuck out and went home before I could say anything or we could come up with a game plan. I don’t care that we fucked, we can forget it, I won’t talk about it again. Swear on my fuckin’ life,” you grab the cigarette from between his fingers and put it between your own lips. “But don’t act like I’m crazy, or like it’s my fucking fault, alright?” There’s a beat as you take a puff of his cigarette, smashing it beneath the toe of your shoe into the concrete. “Sorry for leaving,” he says, finally, “Didn’ know what else to do.” You shrugged. “Whatever, Carm, it doesn’t have to mean anything, if you don’t want it to. I’ll live and let live if you will. Just be fuckin’ cool, don’t tell anyone. I don’t want people to know that I fucked my boss, or whatever.” He smirks, “Heard, chef.”

And it all seems alright for a bit. The kitchen is back to normal, you’re back on pace, and you and Carmy are fine.

The weeks pass and the world falls back into its natural orbit. There’s a hookup here and there, a few nights where he comes home with you after service, all under the guise of a drive home. You feel obligated to invite him up for something to eat (because God knows he hasn’t all fucking day), and before you can get in the door he’s already hot on your heels and breathing down the back of your neck. And there you are, breath hitched in your throat, struggling to get the door open, feeling his hand come around your front and slide into the waistband of your jeans.

Sometimes he stays, sometimes he doesn’t. It’s a toss up if you have to be in for service the next morning, and you usually hear him grabbing his coat from where it’s laid on the kitchen table, the jingle of his car keys in the right-hand side pocket being just loud enough to wake you from your deep slumber. Sometimes you’re coherent enough to ask him to stay, but he’s got one foot out the door and he can easily pretend not to hear you. And it’s fine, really.

A Saturday rolls around, the busiest day of the week, and there’s a few mumbles around the kitchen that Carmy’s in a bad mood today, and he’s not to be fucked with.

You were nothing if not nosy, so when Richie and Natalie are having a heated conversation in the dining room before prep starts, you can’t help but insert yourself. “What’s up, guys? Everything chill?” Richie shot you a look, but not before leaning down closer to your ear, sworn to secrecy.“Claire bitched out Carmy on a drunk phone call last night,” He starts, before Natalie can stop him. “No, it wasn’t-“ “Yeah, it was. It was gnarly. She finally actually got mad about opening night and let him fuckin’ have it, good for her,” he laughs, letting his hands plunge into his pockets. “What did she say?” Natalie’s sweet voice was a sharp contrast to Richie’s, low, and soft, when she replied, “He didn’t say much. Just that she called, and he had his stupid sad puppy dog eyes on, so obviously she must’ve said some… stuff.”

Carmy was scrubbing the floors of the kitchen, head down, obviously not taking any notice to the mini staff meeting in the dining room. “Just don’t mention it, ‘kay? I don’t think anyone’s supposed to know. He hasn’t heard from her in weeks and now he’s all fucked up over it, he’ll probably be a real bitch later.” “Heard, chef. Will try not to piss off Princess Carmy.”

The service isn’t so bad. Carmy’s mopey - downturned eyes, less yelling than you’d anticipated. It’s almost scary; seeing him rather calm, a little sad, reduced to a heartbroken boy who just feels fucking bad for himself. You try to stay out of his way, focusing on getting plates of custard and cake out in time, with no mistakes. It’s a lot of ‘yes chef, thank you chef, great chef’. You’d almost actually prefer it like this.

You find him out back having a cigarette right before you’re gonna head out. He hasn’t bothered to put his sweater or coat on, arms bare against the cold night air as he blows the hot smoke into a cloud above him. “Hey,” you start, sitting next to him. It feels a little odd to be close to him - intimate, in a way that you’re not used to. “You seemed off tonight. Is something up?” You put your hand out expectantly for a cigarette, and he obliges, with his lighter to follow.

“No, chef,” he starts, dusting some salt from the street off his shoe. “Thank you though.” “You know I don’t have to be chef outside of that kitchen,” you bump a shoulder with him. “You’ve called me a lot of other names, God knows.” He stifles a laugh and looks at you again, with a softness in his features you’d never really seen before. “I just had a rough night last night, is all,” he finishes. “Just feels so fucking bad. I feel like I’m so bad at… this.” He gestures to the night sky around him. “I don’t know how to balance anything. I keep… I keep fucking losing people. People I like, people… people I fucking love. And like, what am I supposed to do about that?” You can see his face get hot as he lets the heel of his hand rub his eye. “You let it happen,” you finish, taking a puff of your own cigarette. “You do what you can and you let yourself feel it and you mourn and grieve until you can’t anymore, until it doesn’t feel right to anymore.”

He nods in agreement, letting you both smoke in silence. “Can I give you a ride home?” He asks, and you know what that means. “Yeah,” you agree softly. “Sure, thanks. Go get your stuff, I’ll wait here.” When he’s back, he locks the back door of the restaurant and lets you stand up first, following behind you.

When you make it back to your place, it’s different. He’s comfortable here now, having been in your space enough times to know where he was welcomed. Normally, it goes like, he’s panting down your neck before you can even get in the door, and once he’s put his stuff down, the back of your knees are hitting the mattress, wet sloppy kisses along your collarbones and neck, down over your breasts and down down down…

But he’s not being like that. When he sets his coat down, he finds his way to your couch. You pull a glass out of the cupboard to fill with ice and cold water, handing it to him before doing the same for yourself. “Can we… can we go to bed?” He asks, and it’s softer than usual. “Sure,” you smile, opening the door to your bedroom and watching as he strips bare, before pulling out a pair of grey sweat pants he had stashed in your closet. You’d stayed the night at his one time, so-affectionately wearing them in the morning to make him a cup of morning coffee, and decided just to wear them home. “Keep them,” he had said to you that day, “just in case.”

When he climbs in between your white sheets, he seems to instantly relax. He generally did after work, from what you saw - and even though he often had a hard time letting the day go, it seemed like whenever he was with you, he could let it go a little easier. You grabbed a pair of pyjamas for yourself and slid them on, before cracking the window slightly and letting the cool breeze in. The chain around his neck glistened in the moonlight, as he let his eyes flutter closed, just for a minute. When you let your hand brush over his arm, tracing the faded inky lines of his tattoos, he opened one eye slightly, eliciting a small laugh from the side of his mouth. “Feels nice,” he offered, soft against the sounds of the nighttime. “Would you be offended if we didn’t fuck tonight?” His eyes are still closed, and even though it seems a bit ridiculous to ask, you can tell it was hard for him to get the words out. It didn’t really mean that, it meant, can we just be here, together, and enjoy each other for a night? Do you want me here if not for that?

“Of course not, Carmen,” you let your head hit the pillow, kissing his shoulder and letting your hand grasp his bicep. “You never call me Carmen,” he comments, voice soft, before he looks over at you. “I kinda like it. Only you, though.” You let the curls of his hair tangle around your fingers as he started to drift off, you following not long after. And it’s actually fine this time.

Pokemon Headcanon - Ritchie's Mom

If you remember, we met Ash's doppelganger Ritchie during the Indigo League... and we don't know anything else about him. For an extra bit of fun, I like to imagine Luana from the Orangle Islands is actually his Mom.

[They have the same eye color, similar hair color, and similar hair styles.]

Evidence: We have one BIG piece of evidence, she think Ash looks like her son, and her son uses a Pikachu, too!

Now, i know what you're thinking - We see her son. Her son is named Travis, and it's NOT Ritchie.

Counter-point: She has TWO sons, guys! Her eldest son is Ritchie, and he started his journey a year ago. And her younger son is Travis, who just left to start his journey.

Or, if you really want to stretch things. Maybe Gym Leader Luana is not Ritchie's Mom. Maybe Luana is like Nurse Joy, and there are MULTIPLE Luana's around the world, and ONE of them is Ritchie's mom.

About the Event: Just Chatting

Detrans Awareness Day (March 12) will forever hold a special place in my heart. It sowed the seeds, of the long painful process of emerging from the fever dream of transition. Hearing other stories like mine was monumental in being able to recover, as well as return to my own sense of self.

To honour the day, and organisations like Genspect, I interviewed members of the detrans community, to hear their thoughts in a series of informal chats. With nearly 11 hours of recorded conversation, there is surely something for everyone.

Just chatting is a series of recorded conversations with detransitioners across the detrans community. Many interviews have been held in the media and small podcast with detransioners, but never in this format.

For the first time, we get to hear a new take on detransition, from members of the detrans community, including our very own Head Moderator of /r/Detrans, Alex.

The videos will be released from 11:00 GMT Sunday 12 March on YouTube.

Ember

Ember is a 30 year old detransitioned woman, with a talent for the piano. Like others, this was the first time I met and talked to Ember, and it was an absolute pleasure to do so, she like many others offered a balanced, logical and fair view on the political nature of how detransioners are used in the media.

Alex

It is an absolute privilege to be the one who gets to interview Alex. She is the head moderator of /r/detrans, and has single handily created an international community of detransitioners and desistors. Alex medicalised as a young teenager, and medically detransitioned at around age sixteen.

Her recovery was not without challenge, yet despite difficulties, has persevered to deliver a fundamentally important service to many, often at great personal expense.

Jade

Jade is another talented individual, though they wouldn't say it themselves. Growing up as a tomboy was difficult for Jade, who found herself restricted by gender roles. Just before taking testosterone at 31, Jade underwent a double mastectomy, and at 33 years old stopped taking testosterone.

Primarily, her reasons for detransition were underpinned by the drastic impacts testosterone has on the female body. Now, at 34, Jade is now navigating through difficult health conditions and the challenge of being seen as a young man, rather than 34 year old woman.

Chris

Chris is a 27 year old detransitioned man from the US. At 18 years old Chris medical transitioned and like many, found his route way into transition through 4chan and internet communities.

His pipeline is one many young men today can relate too, and now off hormones and reintegrating, Chris has kindly shared his story in great detail.

Redking

RedKing is another gentle soul, who in this revealing discussion, puts into picture; a life of alienation and internet obsessions.

At 19 years old, RedKing has now detransitioned and is enjoying life away from devices. In this chat, he bravely sheds light on a rarely discussed, yet highly common pipeline; femboys and pornography.

Asher

Asher is an 18 year old man who is already on his third year of college. Highly intelligent, talented, yet sensitive, Asher found fitting in a world as a bisexual teenager quite difficult.

At fourteen he was ready and willing to take hormone treatment, but a set of events, including parental intervention steered him off the course.

Capt. Mystery

Captain Mystery (not his real name!) is a 21 year old detransitioner from the US. He's currently studying for a degree in computing, and talks about a life of being on the side lines, due to his physical and neurological conditions, which have been with him tonight.

Captain took hormones for 3 months, after walking into a Planned Parenthood clinic. In a combined series of event, captain who also runs a Reddit board critical of 'breadtubers', Captain found himself empathising with the experience of detransitioners.

I can get behind Sam meditating but she would take forever to learn to actually do it and not just sit there and think about how fucked up she is (also Billy’s hallucination would definitely use this chance and start talking to her because she’s alone and it’s silent which seems to be when he pops up) so I feel like she would try guided meditations because someone else is talking and there’s often some very calm music in the background which makes it easier to actually focus on meditating and tune out Billy

also that leads me to another question: do you think Billy will ever pop up while Sam is fighting? because so far he has disappeared as soon as somebody was talking to Sam

Sam is already unhinged and distributes 20 stabs minimum so imagine Billy beside her, edging her on and she can’t even hear anything else other than the ringing in her ear, the sound of the knife piercing the skin of her victim and Billy screaming right in her ear to “stab more” , “make sure they are really dead, Sam” ,”defend yourself”

That post was 1am nonsense because I was falling asleep and my brain went 'Kirby likes to fish' and I couldn't just post that on its own.

Sam meditates, but she is as you say, fucking terrible at it. Guided meditation is 100% the only way to go, there's no way she can guide herself, to sit in silence alone and be comfortable.

I actually think the Billy thing won't be a problem because it's resolved by her taking her medication. So long as she's taking it, she doesn't see him. I believe Ritchie was tampering with her meds back pre-5. Although now I'm thinking about it, canon divergence where she's either too jaded by her previous experience with medication or they just don't help and the Billy in her head spurs her on in her overprotectiveness of Tara.

I think if Sam sees/hears Billy while she's killing, it would be less direct instruction and more him reminding her why she's doing this, talking about the things they've done, why they deserve this. More of an internal justification voice than a hallucination telling her to kill.

Like, if he was there during the Bailey attack. He would be reminding her of Anika, of Gale, of Chad. Then when she stops: "He's not dead Sam, if he's not dead he'll come back, you're doing this for her remember." Then when Tara tilts her head and gives her permission to continue: "See! She gets it! She agrees."

Guest Review: Robert B. Parker’s Bad Influence by Alison Gaylin

Robert B. Parker’s Bad Influence by Alison Gaylin brings to life his character Sunny Randall. Those who have read Gaylin in the past know she loves to have twisted endings that are very intense. This story is not any different as she takes readers on a roller coaster ride.

“I have been a longtime fan of the Robert B. Parker books, although I did not read any of the Sunny books. I was offered to write twenty pages and thought this is a terrific opportunity. I had this idea regarding influencers. A month later I heard I got the job and will be writing a second book. : I tried to stay as loyal to Parker as I best I could. His style is different than my style with more dialogue, shorter chapters, and I have a little more internal dialogue. I did try to make it as “Parkeresque” as I could. All the supporting characters of his was like being given a toolbox to make some furniture. There is her good friend Spike, her father, her ex-husband Ritchie, his mob dad, and her dog Rosie. Parker books had more humor than I usually put but I wrote more intensity, especially at the end.”

In this story Gaylin includes many of Sunny’s supporting characters and attempts to bring her into the modern world. Bethany Rose hires Sunny to protect one of the most popular influencer couples. She offers the services of her influencer couple, Blake James, and Alena Jade, to help Sunny’s BFF Spike gain new customers for his bar and restaurant. Bethany is willing to do it on gratis if Sunny finds out who is sending threatening messages to the couple.

Sunny must come to terms with social media as she tries to figure out who is the stalker. The problem is she must get up to speed because she did not use any online forums. Now she uses it as a tool to research her clients. She is trying to understand how people can base their entire careers on letting strangers into their personal lives.

“I find the world of influencers fascinating because I see them as a con. Everything is filtered and photoshopped. They have created a character of who they hope to be, not who they are. The goal is to be aspirational, not real. There is an element of artificiality. I thought how Sunny as a single woman in her late thirties she would have a social media imprint. But she does not, and I wondered why. Although she does find it fascinating. I think she wonders if followers have a mind of their own and maybe thinks of influencers as the modern-day commercials/advertisements. The influencers are getting paid with a lot of free products. Commercials have lost their power because people fast-forward them, so influencers have taken their place. They have a whole different level of fame.”

She can be stubborn at times and is trying to figure out where she stands emotionally. I wrote Sunny as funny, tough, smart, strong, loyal, but vulnerable. She never let’s go of relationships. She had this dog Rosie who passed away and she got the same kind of dog and named it the same. She does not love change very much. She has been divorced from her ex-husband for years but still has feelings for him and they still maintain a relationship. Sunny is a solid person. In her profession as a private investigator, she is reckless, observant, and calm. She is in her late thirties. She is very good with a gun.”

This mystery/thriller is riveting, and the readers also can learn about the world of influencers, which makes the story even more fascinating.

French School of Austin Tops Annual Contest for 6th Straight Year

As the founder of the French School of Austin, Dr. Hind Louali leverages more than 15 years of educational leadership experience and intensive training through the Centre International d’Études Pédagogiques to advocate for and execute the strategic mission of the independent, bilingual Texas school. In addition, Dr. Hind Louali facilitates professional development for the school’s educators and monitors and analyzes student performance.

Students at the French School of Austin, also known as École Jean-Jacques Rousseau, have been among the top French students in the US for the past six years, as evidenced by their performance at the annual Le Grand Concours competition. Seventeen students from the school participated in the 2020 event. Jade Ritchie earned a platinum medal as the highest-scoring student in her division, while 12 other students earned National Laureate distinction. Moreover, the French School of Austin had the most national medalists for the sixth consecutive year.

Four of those 12 medalists received the silver medal for finishing in the 85th percentile, while eight students earned bronze for scoring within the 75th percentile or higher. Nearly 70,000 students from all 50 states participated in the competition, and 651 students earned medals, or National Laureate distinction.
