Labyrinth Fanart

I'm very lousy at this self-promotion thing, but here's my most recent Labyrinth watercolor. Done on A3-sized paper (11.69 x16.53 inches), it's my largest watercolor to date and caused me all sorts of stress since the paper was expensive and I didn't want to ruin it.

I also made a YouTube video of the process:

And since I like "As the World Falls Down" so much (that wonderful bass!), I also made a short vertical video and uploaded it to YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok to see how their audiences might differ. As expected, it was completely ignored by Instagram but had a better reception on TikTok. YouTube reacted relatively lukewarmly. It's always funny how there are people who take the trouble to downvote my videos on Youtube. 🤣

I literally just saw someone explain that Labyrinth is about a child dealing with psychological trauma from sexual abuse... And that the reason why the dick (sorry for my foul language, but I I'm really tired of coming across bullshit like that) of David Bowie / Jareth was highlighted by the pants because it's his weapon of aggression...

People really have a hard time understanding that this movie is simply a metaphor for a girl coming of age, with Jareth essentially being the pure representation of her fantasies / sexual awakening ?

Like... Why do so many people have to make things that women like perverse or negative ? It's still crazy.

I’ve long thought that this quote from Erik in the POTO novel: “If you loved me, I'd be gentle as a lamb and you could do whatever you pleased with me” and this quote from Jareth in Labyrinth: “Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave” have extremely similar vibes.

Unfortunately, I’m too tired to do a deeper analysis of this comparison, but I still thought it was an interesting parallel and wanted to share.

When she’s trapped or kidnapped. When he projects his craving for vengeance onto her. When he locks her up out of questionable good intentions and likes it too much.

But then the power flips. He loses control. She snatches it all and he’s brought to his knees. Maybe he survives. Maybe he doesn’t. They probably don’t kiss but the tension is THICK.

Those are my comfort characters. Go you good things. Drive each other to terrible extremes or into each other’s arms. I’ll never get tired of this fictional dynamic.
