Chapter Eighteen
Nancy sighed as she leaned against Steve, her notebook open on her lap as she stared at the door to the gym. They were both hoping that Eddie and the rest of Hellfire would show up. They knew how much the game meant to Eddie and how protective they could get, and they didn't expect the basketball game to land on the same evening. They weren't sure what was going to happen. While Eddie has gotten a lot better at accepting that not all jocks are bad guys, they knew how easy it was to slip back into old ways of doing things especially when people like Jason Carver and Tommy Hayes are involved.
"Okay, that's it, I'm going to give him hell," Steve scowled, standing up. "This game is important to Lucas, and if he doesn't understand how scared he is of being able to enjoy both games. . . "
"Steve!" Nancy said, tugging on his pants.
She pointed towards the door, and they both watched as Eddie came with the others. He grinned and waved at them before bounding up the bleachers. He stood there with his hands on his hips.
"You had doubts, didn't you?" Eddie asked.
"Honestly?" Nancy asked, and he nodded. "A little bit."
"Yeah, I had my doubts too, but then I imagined Lucas's disappointed face then yours, and I kind of wanted to punch myself in the face for even thinking about replacing Lucas. It would have been a douchebag move," Eddie said. "Basketball is just as important as D&D, and I need to make compromises in both areas. I can postpone my game for one night, Lucas can't. Besides, I think it would be cool if we had more nerds on the team."
"I'm proud of you," Nancy said.
"We both are," Steve said.
"I also had to give the rest of Hellfire quite the talking to," Eddie said as he sat next to Nancy and watched as the others filtered in behind them.
"Aw, we missed you being parental," Steve said as he sat down.
Nancy felt Eddie move his arm carefully behind her, reaching over towards Steve.
"What are you doing?" Nancy asked and Steve yelped.
"Did you just pinch my ass?" Steve asked.
"For good luck," Eddie said.
"How is pinching my ass good luck?" Steve asked. "What are you going to Nancy?"
"Nothing because he knows if he pinches anything of mine that I'll pinch right back," Nancy said in amusement.
"Yeah, her pinches do maximum damage," Eddie winced and grinned. "I'll just admire her beautiful hair. My, it's looking extra fluffy and gorgeous today."
Eddie sighed and shoved his nose right into her hair, causing her to giggle. He pulled back with a gasp.
"Strawberries! Your hair smells like strawberries. I love strawberries," he said.
"I know," Nancy smiled.
"I see you brought your little notebook. Are you taking notes?" Eddie asked.
"I'm covering the game," Nancy replied. "Fred's down below, also covering the game."
"Oh, hey. I know you guys said you wanted to meet up after the game, but I'm probably going to be a little late tonight," Eddie said. "One last deal forever. I have to take her back to the house."
"Okay, as long as you show up," Nancy said. "It's still date night, mister."
"Wouldn't miss it for the world," Eddie said, gazing at the both of them.
"By the way, where's El?" Steve asked.
"She wanted to be here, but she also wanted to be with Max. I think she tried to convince her to come because she knows how much Lucas means to Max," Eddie said. "She also doesn't want to leave Max alone with her mother, and while Susan isn't a mean drunk, she's still a drunk, leaving Max to tend to herself."
"I'm sympathetic towards Susan. Don't get me wrong, but. . . " Steve trailed off.
"You hate that Max is having to go through this," Eddie said. "Yeah, me too."
"Max will come to us when she's ready," Nancy said.
"I hope so," Steve said.
Nancy watched the game with rapt attention, scribbling in her notebook every now and then. She watched with excitement as they put Lucas in, and when he made the winning shot, she cheered along with the rest of them.
"That's our boy!" Eddie screamed.
And when they all spilled out into the parking lot, they stood with the Sinclairs as they waited for Lucas. Eddie was the first one to hug him tight before pushing him into the arms of his parents.
"Uh, the guys wanted to take me out to celebrate. Would that be alright?" Lucas asked his parents.
Sue and Charles shared a look before turning back to their son with a sigh.
"Of course, just don't do anything stupid," Sue said. "Be careful and make good choices, okay?"
"I will, mom," Lucas nodded and hugged them again before turning to the others.
"And remember, you don't have to do anything that you don't want to do just because you feel you have to or that you would be letting them down," Steve said. "You make your own decisions, okay?"
"I promise," Lucas said, and Nancy hugged him tightly.
"Jesus, he's not going off to war," Jason said, coming up behind him and pulling him away.
"I hate that guy," Nancy scowled.
"I just hope Lucas knows what he's doing," Steve said, his hands on his hips. "I know all about the horrors of peer pressure."
"He's got a good head on his shoulders," Eddie said, clapping a hand on Steve’s shoulders. "Anyway, I have to go. See you later."
"We'll be waiting for you with bells on," Steve said.
"And hopefully nothing else," Eddie said and started moving towards his van, blowing them kisses as he did so.
Nancy watched him fondly for a moment and grinned as he opened the passenger door for Chrissy Cunningham.
"He's such a gentleman," Nancy grinned.
"Yeah, when he's not being a menace," Steve said fondly.
"I have to leave too. I've got to get Mike home so he can catch his flight to California in the morning. He's so excited to see Will again. It's so cute. See you back at the apartment?" Nancy asked and kissed him.
They waited for him that night for a very long time until they had no choice but to eat dinner without him, his dinner put away in Steve's fridge. For the first time, they crawled into bed without Eddie and felt a little bit empty. Mayhem meowed sadly and jumped into bed, nestling herself between the both of them.
"Do you think he's okay?" Nancy asked.
"His van probably broke down again," Steve said. "He'll find a way to reach Thatcher's Tire, and then he'll call us. We'll just have to wait."
Mayhem meowed loudly, and Nancy started scratching behind her ears to calm her down.
"It's okay, sweet girl, Daddy will be home soon, don't you worry," Nancy cooed, and as she drifted off to sleep, a pit of worry filled her stomach.
When she woke up, it was the middle of the night, and Mayhem was meowing loudly in the living room. Nancy sat up and looked over at Steve, who was snoring gently. She shoved him but he didn't wake up and she kept on shoving him but he still didn't wait up. Finally, she raised her hand, winced, and slapped him hard across the face. He shot up.
"I'm up," Steve said, blinking sleepily. "Nance?"
"I think there's something wrong with Mayhem," Nancy said and paused. "Eddie never called."
"Shit," Steve cursed and threw off the covers.
Nancy and Steve wandered into the living room where Mayhem was pacing. She was moving back and forth, her hair on end, as she meowed loudly.
"She's scared," Nancy said.
"MEEEOOOWW!" Mayhem cried and howled before letting out a loud hiss.
Suddenly, the lights started to flicker, and Nancy moved closer to Steve, clutching his arm.
"We have to go to his house," Nancy said. "Now."
They quickly got dressed. Nancy grabbed her shotgun from inside Steve’s closet while Steve grabbed his nailbat. They were almost out the door when Mayhem jumped onto Steve’s shoulder, hissing loudly.
"Yeah, I don't think she's taking no for an answer," Nancy said.
The three of them took off in Steve's car, racing towards the old Byer home that now belonged to the Munsons. When they pulled up, Eddie's van was gone, and the front door was wide open. Steve shared a look with Nancy as they both got out of the car. Mayhem jumped out with them and climbed up onto Nancy's shoulder this time. She readied her shotgun while Steve held up his bat, and they walked into the house together. It was completely dark when they entered. Steve quickly grabbed the flashlight that was sitting on an end table. Mayhem hissed, flicking her tail. Steve clicked it on and pointed it in the middle of the living. Steve and Nancy both gasped in horror at the sight before them. The coffee table lay smashed to pieces while Chrissy Cunningham's body was twisted grotesquely on the floor. There was no way a human could have done this, not without help. Nancy felt bile rise up as she looked at Chrissy's empty eye sockets.
"Oh god," Nancy sobbed and Mayhem hissed louder.
"You don't think. . . ," Steve trailed off.
"No! I don't think Eddie could have done this, and you shouldn't either!" Nancy snapped.
"I wasn't. . . I would never. . . I was going to ask if you thought there might be someone else who came to town with powers, and they came after Eddie?" Steve asked.
"Oh. I'm sorry, Steve," Nancy sobbed. "I, uh, don't know. It's a possibility. . . Where is he? Where is he, Steve?"
"Maybe. . .maybe he went another way back to the apartment," Steve said.
"Let's go," Nancy said.
They drove quickly back to the apartment, only to find Eddie's van wasn't out front and the entire building empty. Nancy still looked through the place frantically, her heart racing and her breathing growing ragged as she looked around. Steve grabbed her by the shoulders and held her in place.
"Nancy," he said softly.
"Where is he?! Where is he, Steve?" Nancy shook, her bottom lip trembled.
He cupped her face with his hands, and suddenly, she felt calmer. She realized then how pale and shaky Steve was. There was fear in his eyes, too.
"There's another place left we can look," Steve said.
"Where?" Nancy asked.
"The quarry," Steve replied.
"Right, the quarry," Nancy said, her eyes lighting up. "Let's go."
They left, and still, Mayhem followed. When they arrived at the quarry, they saw no sign of Eddie or his van. They still looked around, though including Mayhem. She would meow loudly as she walked around and sniffed the air, almost as if she was calling for him. Nancy hated when she turned around and looked at Nancy sadly. She held out her arms, and Mayhem gladly jumped into them. She turned around to find Steve running his hands through his hair and looking frantic.
"Steve?" Nancy asked.
"I don't know, Nance, I don't know," Steve said weakly, his voice cracking as though he were seconds away from breaking.
That's when she got the idea, and she could feel her eyes light up.
"Reefer Rick, his lake house," Nancy said, and Steve looked at her. "Eddie took us there one time."
"Yeah, yeah, maybe. Let's go," Steve said.
This time, Nancy insisted on driving, and so, Mayhem climbed into Steve’s lap to calm him down. They pulled up to Rick's house and didn't see Eddie's van at all, but they still got out to look around the place. Mayhem clung to Steve’s shoulder, sniffing the air as they moved around the house as they tried to find a way in. Nancy took the flashlight that Steve had brought with him from the Munson home and used it to look for a spare key. She finally managed to find it in a fake rock amongst other rocks and quickly unlocked the door. She knew Rick was still in jail, so if anyone was here, it would be Eddie. They searched throughly inside before moving outside again to keep looking. They moved down to the boathouse, and still, they did not find Eddie.
"Where's Eddie? Where is he?" Steve panicked. "Eddie?! Eddie!!"
"Steve," Nancy gasped, her eyes filling with tears as she glanced around the boathouse. "He's not here. He's not here."
They looked at each other, fear in their eyes, and they moved at the same time. Nancy clung to Steve, sobbing heavily. She could feel him trembling just as much as she was, and she could feel his own tears falling into her hair.
"Your hair smells like strawberries," Steve mumbled.
Nancy pushed herself off of Steve, her whole body in shock and she started screaming.
"EDDDDIIIEEE!"
And she felt so utterly lost, so helpless. She wished Hopper was here, and she wished Joyce never fucking left. She wished that the only person nearby that was in the know wasn't Murray fucking Bauman. If she were wishing for things, it was all of that, that Eddie was with them back at home, and none of this was fucking happening again.

You happily smile and run into your brother's arms as soon as you see him. „I missed you big man,“ you laugh.
„Missed you too, Missy,“ Clay whispers into your hair, holding you close for another minute. „Thank you for inviting us,“ he then tells you, breaking the hug with a big smile on his face.
You grin and lightly shove his shoulder. „Of course I‘d invite you. It’s not often you have free time, you know. Besides, I don‘t want to spend Thanksgiving alone.“
When you look behind your older brother you see his team members finally approaching. They were waiting at the beginning of your driveway. They weren‘t all here today though. The team leader, Jason Hayes was with his family, as well as Ray Perry, but the others were invited to your Thanksgiving dinner.
„Hello, welcome,“ you enthusiastically greet them, waving. „Nice to finally meet you all. Clay told me much about you guys!“ You smile at them, shaking hand after hand.
They all smile at you and then one of them starts speaking. „Thanks for the invite. I‘m Sonny. I‘m surprised Blondie never told us about you,“ he tells you and you side-eye Clay before you start laughing.
„I think I need to have a talk with him regarding that matter,“ you tease. „But, let’s not talk about that! Please, come inside.“ You motion them to follow you and walk into your house. It was a little small but perfect for you. You couldn‘t imagine living somewhere else.
They follow you like a bunch of lost puppies and it‘s more than funny to you. You show them your living room and tell them to sit down. You would bring the food shortly, you say.
Clay follows you into the kitchen where you run around humming to yourself. „Are you trying to feed a whole bataillon?“ he laughs and you shriek.
„Jesus Christ!“ You place your hand over your heart. „Don‘t scare me like that!“ you scold him, jabbing your finger at him.
„I’m sorry,“ he laughs, pressing a kiss to your head. „Won‘t do it again. I just wanted to help you,“ he explains, starting to stir the gravy. „Been with these guys for too long.“
„Well, you chose to, didn‘t you?“ you ask putting the pie in the oven. „By the way,“ you look at him. „Who‘s the one with the beard?“
„We all have a beard Missy,“ Clay snorts and you roll your eyes.
„The one who didn‘t talk,“ you explain, tilting your head at your brother. „He only looked at me a bit strangely.“ You place the baking gloves on the counter and wipe a couple hair strands out of your face.
„Could be Brock or Trent. Why you wanna know?“
„He’s cute,“ you say with a shrug and Clay stops stirring. He turns around, eyes wide.
“No. No, no, no! You won’t make a move on one of my teammates!” he almost screams and you only laugh.
“Why not?”
“Because, firstly, I would work with the man fucking my sister, which is already weird enough and, secondly, you know our job,” his voice turns serious. “I don’t want you to…get your heart broken.” Clay averts his gaze, memories of his own breakup with Stella surfacing. She wasn’t able to live with the fear of losing him…
You already had him to worry about but dating another SEAL? He didn’t know if you could take that much stress and uncertainty. He wanted only the best for you.
You sign and walk towards him. “I know your job,” you confirm, gently placing your hand on his upper arm. “But does a dangerous job mean you guys are unlovable or don’t deserve it?”
You look up at him and he wants to cry. You were right but still, he didn’t want you to love one of them. Without saying anything he pulls you into his arms and keeps you close.
“Don’t…do anything you’ll regret,” he whispers and you tighten your arms around him. You never wanted to let him go. You’ve missed him too much…
“I promise,” you whisper back, a little tear escaping your eye. “Besides, I just said he’s cute. Never said I’ll make a move,” you then immediately joke, breaking the hug with a sniff.
Clay only rolls his eyes, trying to hide his smirk. “Maybe you did but I know you better.”
-
Trent sits on your couch, involved in a heavy discussion about football with Sonny. The Texan couldn’t accept the fact that he was the only hardcore football fan.
“We can watch soccer instead,” Brock retorts with a snort and immediately gains a death glare from Sonny.
„We‘re in America and in America you watch football!“ Sonny proudly exclaims, straightening his back and popping out his chest. „Besides, it‘s a long Thanksgiving tradition!“
Trent just rolls his eyes and pushes himself off the couch. He would look and ask if he could help anywhere. He’s not used to doing nothing. His hands are itching to do something.
When he‘s about to enter your kitchen he sees you and Clay breaking a hug. He decides to wait outside. You haven’t seen your brother in a long time and he wanted to give the two of you some privacy. When he‘s sure he can enter he slightly clears his throat.
You look to the door and smile when you see one of Clay‘s teammates. „Hey,“ you greet him, walking over to shake his hand. „Can I help you with anything?“, you want to know and he shakes his head.
„No, thanks. I actually wanted to ask if I can help you,“ he answers, trying his best to not look too intimidating. His height didn‘t help with that. „I‘m Trent, by the way,“ he’s careful not to stumble over his words.
He was nervous. Why was he nervous? You only were Clay’s sister. He didn’t know you. You didn‘t know him. So, why the hell was he nervous about talking to you?
„Uhm,“ you look around and totally miss the way Clay eyes his friend with a stern gaze (You didn‘t miss it). „I actually do need help, yes. These-“ you point at a couple of pots and the turkey. „-need to be set on the table.“
“Okay,” Trent slightly smiles before he looks at Clay. “You wanna help?” The younger SEAL stares at his friend for a couple seconds before he nods.
“Yea, I’ll tell you where to put it.”
“Great,” Trent mumbles as he picks up the turkey and leaves the kitchen, Clay following him with one of the pots. You look after them with a smile, then a laugh when you hear how your brother instructs his friend.
You decide to head to your living room to call the other guys. „Food‘s ready,“ you smile at them, peaking your head through the door. Sonny immediately stands up and claps his hands.
„That‘s my call!“ the Texan says and Brock snorts. Then he also stands up and walks towards you.
„I hope this isn‘t too much to ask but the dog‘s still in the car and I wanted to know if I‘d be allowed to get him out?“ He lightly tilts his head and you nod, an excited grin on your face.
„Sure! You can go and get him. Clay told me much about Cerberus!“ Relief washes over Brock and he excuses himself to get Cerberus. Normally he always took him with him but he didn‘t know how you‘d react to the shepherd dog.
„I‘m surprised that he didn‘t go crazy already,“ Clay retorts, suddenly by your side. „That dog‘s his life…“
„Well, at least he‘s got someone, no? Dog or not.“ You smile at your brother before you leave him alone to sit down in your dining room. „Are you coming?“ you turn around and he nods before following you.
-
„Missy, it‘s me!“ Your head shoots up when you hear Sonny‘s voice. What was the Texan doing in your house? Not that you didn‘t want him here, you‘ve become amazing friends with Bravo Team since your Thanksgiving dinner but it was 12am, so why was Sonny here?
Your head pops out of the kitchen and you eye Sonny. „What are you doing here? You’re supposed to be at work.“
„Trent said I need to step back for a day or two. That fucker got me the wrong way during sparring,“ he explains while he stretches himself on your couch. „You have no problem with me being here, do you? I can also leave if you want me to.“ He looks up at you with a raised eyebrow.
„Oh,“ you smile. „No, you can stay. I have no problem with that.“ You turn to leave to the kitchen again then you turn around once more. „I hope you‘re fine lasagne? Clay asked me to cook it since he‘ll be around for lunch today.“
Sonny starts to grin and stand up immediately. „Did you say lasagne? Count me in Ms.Spenser!“ He follows you to the kitchen like a lost puppy and you laugh at that.
„You really want to compete with Cerberus, do you?“ Sonny only snorts at your question and sits down on one of your kitchen chairs. You laugh and shake your head. „Normally he‘s the one following me to the kitchen like he‘s a saint.“
„He ain‘t a saint,“ Sonny retorts and you grin.
„No, he‘s not. But you are?“ You turn to look at him, just fast enough to see him smirk.
„Never said I was one,“ he answers with a shrug, a full grin now working its way onto his face. „No one‘s a saint,“ he continues, stretching out his legs. „Except for you maybe. You come quite close to one.“
„Why‘s that?“ you ask, sprinkling cheese over the lasagna. You glance at him over your shoulder. He has his hands crossed in his lap and his head laid back, eyes closed. You smile at that sight. If you learned one thing about Sonny it was that he always acted all tough and untouchable but deep down he just wanted peace and calm…
„You‘re nice, you care for us, Trent has a crush on you,“ Sonny starts listing, not paying attention to the fact that he‘d just exposed his brother and you freeze. Trent had what? Surely you must‘ve misheard it. „Jason likes your muffins, Clay isn‘t bitching around that much when he was with you before.“ Sonny opens his eyes and looks at you. „You want me to continue?“
You shake your head and walk over to the oven. „No…“ you sound a bit confused, almost irritated by Sonny‘s words. „You don‘t need to praise me to the heavens, Sonny.“ you force a smile at him. „I‘m just…a normal person. Nothing special.“ You push the lasagna inside and turn the oven on.
Sonny tilts his head at you. Something he said caught you off guard, he can feel it. „Is it because I told you Jace likes your muffins? I was not supposed to tell you but-“
You turn around. „It‘s not the muffins Sonny.“
„Mhh…“ Sonny recalls everything he told you and then his eyes widen. „Oh shit! It‘s what I said about Trent, right? Oh fuck!“ He stands up. „Look, just- I don‘t know… Just because I said it doesn‘t mean it needs to be true!“
You shut him up with your gaze and for a second he just stands in your kitchen staring at you. Then realization hits him. „Oh… You want it to be true, don‘t you?“ You feel blood rush into your cheeks and avert your eyes. Sonny wouldn‘t let you hear the end of it now…
You expect the Texan to crack jokes and maybe laugh but he just looks at you. „You like him“, he then slowly puts the pieces together further and you simply nod along. „Now I own Ray 50$, damn.“
Your eyes widen and you open your mouth. „You had bets on me?“ He can‘t be serious, can he?
„Of course,“ Sonny seems so casual about it. „Ever since you brought Trent soup when he had a cold. You didn‘t even do it for Clay when he was bedridden.“ You don‘t know how to respond to that. If the team knew… did Trent know it too? Your palms start to sweat.
„Does…does he know?“ you carefully ask Sonny and he snorts. Was that a good sign now or a bad one?
„That fucker is as oblivious as Cerb when Brock tells him they‘re going swimming but instead he drags him to the vet.“ You blink at Sonny, not sure what to do with that answer. Sonny sighs. „Long story short, he doesn’t know. He doesn’t even think there's a possibility of you liking him back. That man is so head over heels over you that he tries to find even the slightest excuse to show up at your front door.“
„He…does?“ you’re still surprised by the fact that Trent apparently also likes you. You didn‘t know how to process all this.
„Of course,“ Sonny laughs. „Matter of fact, I‘m 100% sure he’s trying to convince Clay right now to let him come with him. Man‘s desperate to see you.“
You want to answer but then you think for a second. Why was Sonny telling you all this? Why was he breaking Trent‘s trust like that? This wasn‘t normal for Sonny…
„Why are you doing this Sonny?“ You then decide to ask. „Why are you telling me all this? Aren‘t you…betraying Trent right now?“
-
It‘s 11, maybe 11:30pm when you leave work and the cold wind collides with your face. You shiver and pull your jacket faster around you. You should‘ve taken your fucking car instead of walking to work this afternoon. You curse yourself as you quicken your steps and look around almost paranoid.
With Clay being your brother you always were very aware of what was happening around you. Clay made sure to teach you what he thought was necessary for you to know, that included the observation of everything around you and you’ve never been more thankful for it. It made you feel a tad more safe, especially now that you were walking around alone at night.
When you hear footsteps getting close to you you fish for your phone, never being more happy to have Clay on speed dial. You press your phone to your ear, your eyes glancing behind your shoulder. There was someone…
You decide to walk another way back home. One where you walk through the more populated areas of the town. While you try to keep an eye on your surroundings you wait for Clay to pick up. When he doesn‘t you suppress a curse and dial the next number. Sonny.
He would pick up, no? He is always on his phone anyway. But Sonny doesn’t pick up. You try to reach Clay again, then Sonny. They don’t answer.
“Fuck,” you breathe out, glancing behind you again. Whoever was walking behind you was surely following you. You’ve been taking other turns for the third time in a row now and they were still behind you.
You squint at your phone and take a deep breath. Without thinking twice about it you dial Trent’s number. You’re afraid you’ll break your phone with the grip you’re having on it but you try to keep calm. Clay prepared you for situations like this. Kinda.
“Trent? It’s me. Am I interrupting something?” you let out a relieved breath when he answers. “Could you do me a favor?” you’re even more relieved when he immediately answers with a yes. “I’m on my way back home from work and there’s someone follow-“ you can’t even finish your sentence before you hear him get up and grab his keys.
He asks you where you are and you quickly send him your live location. He promises you he’ll be there as fast as he can and your legs nearly give out from the sudden reassurance. You thank him over and over, quickening your steps once again.
“I’ll be there in 15,” you hear Trent say and you visibly relax. “Stay where you are, try to find a crowd or something close to that. I’m gonna stay in the line,” he explains and you nod, telling him you’ll do the best you can.
Your eyes scan the buildings surrounding you and then fall onto a small 24/7 shop. There surely was someone who could keep you company while Trent arrives, right?
“There’s a uh store,” you carefully say, your feet walking yourself over there almost by themselves. As expected Trent tells you to enter and look out for someone.
A small ‘ding’ signals you entering the store and you immediately start to hide between the shelves. And you were right to do so because only seconds later the bell rings again. You take a deep breath and grab one of the baking mixtures to look busy.
Then you call Trent’s name again. “I’m pretty sure they followed me into the store,” you quietly say, trying to glance around as unsuspiciously as possible. You pause for a second, the grip around the baking mix tightening. “Please tell me you’re here soon…”
“5 minutes,” he tells you, flooring the throttle of his truck. “5 minutes, then I’m there.” His grip on the steering wheel turns his knuckles white and he needs to keep himself calm more than ever.
On the battlefield he never was that nervous. His brothers could take care of themselves but you… You couldn’t.
Yes, Clay probably taught you basic self defense, he thinks but still. He could protect you better than you ever could…
When he arrives at your location he doesn’t bother properly parking his truck. He jumps out and tries to calmly walk towards the store but it‘s like his feet are itching.
He raises his phone, looking at the still ongoing call. „I‘m here,“ he tells you and then he opens the door. You‘re in his arms before he can even blink.
He stumbles two steps backwards before he can wrap his arms around you. „It‘s okay, it‘s okay,“ he says, his hand finding its way to the back of your head, keeping you close to him. „You’re not alone anymore.“
„God, that man was creepy,“ you breathlessly laugh, breaking the hug. You immediately miss the warmth Trent generated and heavily blush. „I‘m sorry for calling you so out of the blue-“ you want to apologize but he’s raising his hand to stop you.
„No, none of that. You can call me whenever you need. I‘m always there for you,“ he explains, looking you deep in the eyes. „Now, did you see the man? Do you know who he is?“
Trent‘s eyes narrow and the sparkling got replaced by a dangerous look. You shiver and swallow. You turn so you stand beside Trent and then you nod into the direction of a man. „That‘s him,“ you say. „He‘s been following me for at least three blocks.“
Trent looks at the man, then at you. „My truck‘s outside. Gimme three minutes and I‘ll join you there. I don‘t want you to witness this.“ He looks at you again and you nod.
„Okay. I‘ll go and wait…outside.“ You turn your back to Trent and leave, adrenaline pumping through your veins. You knew what he was gonna do. He‘ll nicely confront the man and probably calmly tell him to fuck off.
You stand beside his truck, already climbing in since it‘s still running and you can already see yourself patching up his bloody knuckles later. You sigh when you think about that. Sometimes you thought that he was just chasing trouble…
-
„Why are you looking at me like that?“ you mumble into your pillow, your eyes heavy with sleep.
„You’re pretty,“ Trent says and you can hear the smile in his voice. You quietly laugh and rub your eyes. Then you sit up in your bed and look at him. He sits on the floor, his back popped up against a wall.
„How long‘ve you been watching me?“ you want to know, smiling at him. He accompanied you home after the incident the night before and he refused to leave…
You offered him your couch, your bed even but he declined. So, he probably was awake the whole night, making sure you’re safe.
“I woke up about two hours ago,” he lies, placing his arms on his bent legs. “I made breakfast,” he then tells you, standing up with a low grunt. “Get ready, then we can eat.” He smiles before he leaves your room.
You quickly stand up and throw on some clothes before you rush to the bathroom to get ready. On the other side of your flat stood Trent in your kitchen, asking himself if he was going crazy.
He couldn’t think straight whenever he was with you and damn, it was showing. Telling you you look pretty while you just woke up? Watching you sleep in the first place? What the hell was he going through?
He wasn’t unfamiliar with being in love, that’s what brought him his two ex wives… So, he really wasn’t new to it but why was he acting so weird with you now? It shouldn’t be weird, no?
“You made all this?” your voice pulls him out of his thoughts and he looks at you. Fuck, you were even more beautiful now… How was he supposed to look past that and just…be normal?
„I did, yeah,“ he smiles, hiding his fidgeting hands behind his back. You grin up at him, the crinkles around your eyes showing and he just feels like he’s falling in love with you all over again.
„You didn‘t have to,“ you laugh, crossing your arms in front of your body. „This is- You didn‘t need to-“ you want to finish your sentence but Trent interrupts you. He gently leads you towards your table and pulls back a chair for you.
„I wanted to,“ he simply says. „Besides I already got the call that I need to leave soon, so I just wanted to make you happy before I and the team vanish for god knows how long again.“ He sits down opposite to you and fills your and his glass with orange juice.
„Will Clay pick you up?“ you ask, taking a sip of your orange juice. Trent shakes his head saying something about Clay not being allowed to know he was here and that Sonny wouldn‘t let him hear the end of it if he found out that he spent the night at yours.
You only laugh at that and continue to eat your breakfast. „I can drive you?“ you then suggest but he kindly denies.
„I can drive on my own Missy, don‘t worry. Besides, don’t you have to work today?“ Trent chews on his bread roll, curiously eying you but you just shake your head. You wouldn‘t need to work the next three days.
-
Your lungs sting as you run into the ER. You look around, panic in your eyes, your body shaking.
“Ma’am? Can we help you?” a young nurse asks, clearly worried. “Is everything okay?” She gently places a hand on your arm and your head snaps towards her.
“Clay Spenser. Where is he?” you rasp out, eyes teary. “I’ve been told he’s here.” Your voice breaks and the first tears run down your cheeks.
The nurse nods along and carefully leads you down a hallway. “I’m afraid we can’t help you but my colleague can surely tell you which room he is.” She smiles at you and you want to smile back but you just…can’t.
After half an hour of asking around you’re finally led to your brother’s room, your throat dry. You didn‘t know anything about his condition. Everything they told you was that he was being treated in the hospital.
„One of his friends is also in there,“ you’re informed as you come to a hold in front of the room. „We can ask him to leave at any moment though since he does not count as family.“
You only smile at the nurse. „No need for that. I…know him.“ You didn‘t know who of Bravo was with your brother right now but nevertheless you knew him. And besides, this team was family. They maybe didn‘t share the same DNA but the same blood was adorning their hands.
When the nurse was sure you were fine on your own she left you at the door, a comforting hand on your shoulder before she walked away. You stare at the door, taking a deep breath and opening it with trembling hands.
You pushed it open, your breath hitching when you notice all the monitors scattered around the room and the endless beeping of said machines.
You can see someone move and walk towards you in the corner of your eye. You know who it is when he lays his arms around you, pulling you into his embrace.
Trent doesn’t say a word while you cry, only holding you close and keeping a hand comfortingly on your back. He felt a bit helpless right now, not really knowing what to do but all you needed was just him holding you…
„Thank you for staying with him,“ you whisper after a couple moments, sniffing and breaking the hug. You want to wipe away your tears, feeling embarrassed for losing control like that but he gently wraps his hands around your wrists, pulling them away from your face.
You’re confused for a moment but then he pulls out a tissue and carefully starts to wipe away your tears. You feel like you could start to cry all over again.
„Thank you,“ you sniff again but he just shakes his head.
„You don‘t need to thank me.“ Then he pulls you into his arms again, planting a kiss on your head. „You both are family.“ Trent breaks the hug and cups your face with gentle hands.
„I know you’re scared for him right now,“ Trent glances into the direction of the bed where Clay was laying. „But he’s stable. He‘s pulling through. He’s a strong one.“
Your hand reaches out to place it over his, pulling them from your face and holding them in yours. You say nothing, only holding his hands and working up the courage to finally look at your brother.
„How did it happen?“ you ask, your voice almost being stuck in your throat.
„That’s…classified. I‘m sorry,“ Trent says in a quiet voice. „But, he’s got a couple of broken ribs, his lungs have seen better days and the fingers of his right hand are broken.“
Fresh tears gather in your eyes as you listen to Trent, letting go of him with trembling hands and walking towards Clay. „I told him that his job would demand its tribute sooner or later. He didn‘t listen…“ You sniff, carefully sitting down at the edge of the bed. „He never listens to me…“
-
“I thought you’d kill me as soon as I wake up,” Clay breathlessly laughs while you take a look at his bandages. He was currently laying on your couch, letting himself be treated by you.
“I would’ve,” you mumble. “If it weren’t for Trent.” You reach for the bandage tape and rip off a piece to place it over his arm brace so the bandage would stay in place.
Clay looks at you, tilting his head. “You like him, don’t you?” he then carefully asks and you halt for a second.
“What if I do?” you return the question, avoiding his gaze and fumbling with the tape in your hands.
You can feel your brother looking at you anyway, his eyes burning into your head. “I’d probably try and beat him up.”
“You would fail.”
“I know.” His hand reaches for yours and you finally look up. “I know what I told you when you first met them and…I still mean it but I can’t control who you love.” Clay pauses for a second, his gaze softening. “If you love him then so it be… Besides, he also has a thing for you but I think you know that already.” Clay starts to chuckle at the end of his sentence, his thumb carefully stroking the back of your hand.
“Guard your heart Missy. Don’t give it to the next best asshole.”
“Are you saying your friend is an asshole?” Your eyes widen with surprise.
“That’s not what I said!” Clay immediately shakes his head. “He’s a good guy—I know that for sure—but there are dudes who aren’t as amazing as lovely Trent. I’m asking you to be careful about them.”
You slightly smile before you sigh and stand up. “I don’t think you have to worry about me Clay. I’ll be fine as long as you don’t decide to run into a grenade anytime soon again.”
“I didn’t do it on purpose,” he grumbles, rolling his eyes in a joking manner. “Sonny said the path was clear.”
-
“You think he’s okay with this?” Trent carefully asks as he intertwines his fingers with yours.
“I don’t care what he thinks,” you reply, leaning against him, looking down at your hands. “I’m a grown up. I can do what I want.”
Trent chuckles, glancing at you with a gentle smile. “Do I need to expect the big-brother-talk?” He then wants to know. He needed to know what he needed to prepare for when he saw Clay again.
“More of a big-brother-beating,” you snort with a laugh. “I told him he’d lose and he knows it too but he wants to try anyway.”
“I promise I won’t be too hard on him,” Trent laughs, pressing a kiss to your head. “He’s still not cleared to operate so I need to look after him anyway.”
You don’t reply to that, only enjoying the moment, finally in Trent’s arms, without having to worry about anything in the world. You knew that sooner or later you’d be confronted by his job and its bad sides but right now you didn’t care about that.
You were with him and that was wall what you needed right now.

4. Anon (2018)
Tumblr media
EW grade: (read the review)
Director: Andrew Niccol
Cast: Clive Owen, Amanda Seyfried, Colm Feore, Mark O’Brien,
Privacy and anonymity are luxuries afforded to no one in the 2018 British-American sci-fi thriller Anon. Clive Owen stars as Detective Sal Frieland, a troubled cop operating in a dystopia where the entire populace is implanted with an ocular device intended to record and track the movements of the people around them. The government’s transparency methods ensure that all criminal activity is caught on tape — but when a mysterious woman with no digital footprint (Amanda Seyfried) crosses paths with Sal, he realizes she might have a connection with a series of unsolved murders he’s investigating. Director Andrew Niccol tells EW “I always wanted to do a movie about privacy and the fact that there was never a war for privacy, because we already lost — we gave away our privacy without a fight, all for convenience.
3. Bird Box (2018)

EW grade: B (read the review)

Cast: Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, John Malkovich, Danielle Macdonald, Sarah Paulson, Machine Gun Kelly

Sight becomes a handicap in Bird Box, a post-apocalyptic thriller where the enemy must go unseen, or else. Sandra Bullock stars as Malorie Hayes, a woman responsible for transporting two young children down a river while wearing blindfolds, a strategy intended to help the survivors avoid seeing the entities that attacked Earth five years earlier, and who cause those who look upon them to commit suicide. Jumping between their present journey and the past events that led Malorie and the children to this point, director Susanne Bier leans into the tension of the unknown and relies on her talented but eclectic cast to do the rest. Released the same year as A Quiet Place, and possessing a somewhat similar premise, Bird Box received less attention when it first premiered, but this sci-fi horror film is a great option for fans of both genres.
2. Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
Tumblr media
Director: David Slade
Cast: Fionn Whitehead, Will Poulter, Craig Parkinson, Tallulah Rose Haddon, Catriona Knox
As it turns out, the only thing missing from the British anthology series, Black Mirror, was options. In Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, the TV show gets a movie makeover, but with a twist: The film was shot in the style of a “choose your own adventure” novel, and viewers are able to customize their viewing experience through their scene selections. Centered around a young programmer named Stefan (Fionn Whitehead), Bandersnatch follows Stefan’s journey in developing a video game for a famous gaming company, a journey that puts Stefan under a great deal of mental and emotional stress, and results in one of ten main endings. Black Mirror is beloved for its eldritch and tech-focused content, and Bandersnatch keeps that tone alive, using the main storyline to explore themes like free will and mind control, even as the viewers’ choices drive the story forward.
Don’t Look Up (2021)
Tumblr media
EW grade: B (read the review)
Director: Adam McKay
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep, Timothee Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Cate Blanchett, Mark Rylance, Melanie Lynskey, Chris Evans
Lights, camera, VPNaction! Elevate your movie nights with NordVPN. 🎥🔒secure your connection and Download NordVPN . Click now to unlock global cinematic thrills!
As a comet sets its sights on Earth and prepares to wipe out human civilization, two astronomers (Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence) rush to warn the world of the impending collision — only to discover the world doesn’t really care. “Based on events that haven’t happened yet,” as the film’s trailer states, Don’t Look Up is a sci-fi satire that skewers climate deniers and government inaction in the face of scientific evidence pointing to looming catastrophe. Directed by Adam McKay (Vice, The Big Short), and featuring everyone in Hollywood from Jonah Hill and Meryl Streep to Timothee Chalamet and Ariana Grande, Don’t Look Up offers great jokes and fun cameos, but be warned: it’s not exactly light fare. Still, as far as sci-fi comedies go, this one is worth a watch — just don’t think too deeply about the implications of the film’s ending.

Not a request!
Just wanted to say that I love your blog!
Also, any tips on tipping over the edge and writing for Seal Team? Like I really want to but I'm so nervous.
Much appreciated! And I hope you find your creative writing juice again!!
Hi! Thank you so much for writing!
I'm so glad that you want to write for Seal Team, it's such an amazing show and I'm so glad that someone else enjoys it as much as I do!
My advice would be to analyze the characters and then examine how they behave in various situations, whether it be during the chaos of a mission or during the comforts of home. Once you have a grasp on that, then you can start coming up with various ideas to write about.
I would also mention that if you want to tag your writing, make sure you have the character's name first. I usually tag my imagines as:
jason hayes x reader
jason hayes
jason hayes imagine.
I hope this helps! And don't be nervous, writing about something new can be scary, but don't let that stop you. If it's something that you want to write about, and something that you really enjoy, then go for it!!!!

Call sign Guardian angle
Requested by Anon “we have to stop meeting like this.”
Brock Reynolds x reader
Tumblr media
You just so happened to be walking past the command room when you over heard bravos team leader call for air extraction, “negative Bravo 1, to many tangos in the air the helicopter wont get cleared for take off you’ll have to exfil on foot.” Davis informed over coms. “We are surrounded we need air support now!” Jasons anger could be heard even over the choppy radio, you knew it wasn’t your place and not your call but you’ve covered Bravo team from the air multiple times, you even assisted them on your first solo air strike,
so to say you had a soft spot for that team wouldn’t be far off. With a curse you stepped through the open door your flight suit standing out against the room of blue camo, “If I can provide cover for their helicopters would that get them cleared?” You asked making the room freeze around you, Bravos commander reached over Davis and spoke into the radio, “Stand by Bravo 1.” Then turned his attention to you, his eyes raking over your suit no doubt looking for a team patch or anything that would give up who you were only finding your top gun patch and call sign. “provide cover how? You are aware they are deep in enemy territory correct?” To which you shrugged your shoulders you were used to being in hostile environments, well over them anyways. Taking a step closer holding your hand out to introduce yourself, but someone beat you to it. “Lieutenant Y/n Y/l/n call sign Guardian, shes a fighter pilot, saved our asses a few times too”, Davis chimed in sending you a wink she knew exactly who you were and how a certain member of Bravo felt hearing your voice in the field, this was however her first time meeting you in person, “My jet is still on the runway it would take one call to go back up” you pushed, “a fighter jet is harder to get cleared than a fleet of Helios while we appreciate your help it would take to long,” Blackburn said, Turing back to his team to find another way to get his men out. “Good thing I’m better at asking for forgiveness than permission!” You yelled out, already making your way back to your jet. By the position of it you could tell Davis called and told the crew the plan. Pulling your steps down and climbing up pulling your helmet back on and getting situated again. “Havoc to Guardian do you read?” You heard over the coms her voice much different to the tower you were used to. “Guardian to havoc read you loud and clear,” you watched and waited until the ground crew waved you on. “Guardian Cleared for take off, Helio 13 cleared for take off,” the tower called feeling the rumble of your engine through your body would never get old always pulling a smile to your face, nothing would ever beat the feeling of being in the air just you and your jet, steering the joystick to line up with the runway, throwing a salute to the crew as always. Pushing the throttle you launched off the deck into the air banking hard left wing pointed down to the sea below and the other the sky as you made a flyby the communication room, Blackburn and Davis watching through the window, “fighter pilots always making risky moves.” Seeing you no furthers than twenty inches from the ship, “it seemed risky is just what we needed,” Davis stated before calling to update the team, “All bravo callsigns we have Air exfil inbound.”
“How’d that get cleared I thought we were on our own?” Clay asked Jason the team hunkered down behind cover taking shots through the windows of the house they were hiding In. The enemy hadn’t let up and he doubted they just changed their minds. “I don’t know.’ Havoc repeat your last?” The boys sat waiting throwing he occasional frag when the shooters outside got to close. “Air exfil and support in bound, Oh and Bravo five your going to love this.” Davis could be keep the smile out of her voice, the team turned to Brock, who had no idea what she meant, if this was just air support you would already be screaming across the sky to the team in distress but you were just playing defense today so you followed close behind the chopper your radar scanning the sky for any tangos. “Guardian to havoc can you patch me through to bravo?” You spoke through your headset, “affirmative patching you through.” “Good morning Bravo team your saving grace is two mikes out.”
“Angel?” “Bravo 5, We’ve got to stop meeting like this.”Hearing your voice Brock lets out a chuckle, he was the one to give you your call sign on your first op he called you the teams guardian angle and guardian stuck ever since, unless Bravo was around. the team knowing you were close started cracking on Brock, “uh oh angles are singing boys,” Clay who was new had no idea who you were. “Who are we talking about?” Before they could respond your voice cut through again “Havoc am I allowed to shoot at these guys or strictly intimidation?” Brock couldn’t help but smile a bit you hadn’t changed while he had never met you outside of coms he knew his little crush had grown just a bit. “Negative on the shooting Guardian.”
‘Alright alright’ you spoke to yourself coming up on the village Bravo was hiding in. flying as low as you could you dove down the side of the three story building and flew over the trucks the shooters were hiding behind. The shock and jet wash was enough to make them tuck tail and run giving bravo team enough time to reach the helicopter that landed behind the building. “That’s who we’re talking about” Sonny shouted to Clay to be heard over the helicopter rotors and your engine. “Guardian say hello to blondie Aka Clay Spencer.” Clay looked out the helicopter looking for the jet coming off empty until you rolled to the side from underneath completing a full roll around them. “Nice to meet you Clay,” waving to the team from your cockpit, moving to fly ahead of the helio, the team was confused normally you disappeared as quick as you showed up but you were staying right with them, “Hey pilot, why is she staying with us?” Sonny asked, Brock paying more attention than he was before, wondering the same thing. “She’s stationed on the ship,” hearing this Sonny snapped his head over to Brock, “well lookie here you might get the chance to meet your girl,” he didn’t even know your name and now he was supposed to just walk up to you, and say what? “Havoc to guardian, we have a blimp on your radar do you read,” taking a look at the radar you spot the blimp “Copy havoc going to investigate.” Brocks heart skipped a beat hearing this of course exfil was to easy, he just wished he was in a position to help if you needed it.
Pulling your nose up letting the wind push you up and over the helicopter (the gif above) rolling back over, the blimp getting closer they were flying the same altitude as the helio so you went up to 25,000 feet since you were so close to the Blackhawk you doubt they even knew you were there and that’s exactly how you want to keep it. “Havoc I have eyes it’s Pakistan military want me to engage?” Going inverted being hidden by the clouds above them. “We will try and make contact do not engage until we give the clear.”
You knew they would only let you play if they shot first or followed to close to the ship you just had to stalk and wait, “Blackhawk increase speed see if you can shake them.” As you expected they sped up keeping pace with your helicopter, you were about to hit open water the time to strike ticking down. “Havoc to Guardian Pakistani military refuse to fall back until we tell him why we are here, if they get within three miles of the ship you’re clear to engage.” Moving into position behind the foreign helicopter watching the distance until you can make your move. “Copy havoc waiting to engage.” Unfortunately you couldn’t just shoot a missile out and call it a day, they weren’t expecting a fighter jet nor do they have the weapons to fight one so unless they have a suicide mission the bogey will back off just have to wait and one more second. The alarm in your jet goes off signaling the set danger zone. Being pressed back into your seat you dropped below the helicopter shooting back up right in front of their nose forcing them to swing wide to avoid contact. Back on the Blackhawk Bravo team was watching your dogfight like a movie “Woah Brock I might have to steal her for myself you think she likes Texas barbecue? Ouch Ray!” Sonny rubbed his arm where Ray whacked him even Cerberus was watching the in air action. Taking more dives at their aircraft forcing them to turn back towards land. Getting closer when they tried to turn back towards the water. ‘Alright play time is over’ you said to yourself, lining up the missile lock knowing an alarm would go off letting them know they were about to be in checkmate, after a good second they backed off and headed back to land. Doing a few more passes to make sure they weren’t circling back you spun back taking your spot next to the hovering Blackhawk. Laughing as you saw bravo celebrating inside, giving your own fist bump into the air. “Air is clear havoc requesting to land” making the lap around the aircraft carrier lining up with the strip to land your body jerking as you caught the band slowing your jet to a hard stop. Going through your post flight checks with the crew you just barely saw bravo team being ushered off the deck to debrief. Only locking eyes with the tallest one for a second before he disappears. It was after your own debrief and light scolding that you were walking back to your room, being stopped by a dog running through the hallway and stopping at your feet looking up at you with big brown puppy dog eyes. “Why hello cutie” dropping to your knees running your fingers through his fur laughing as he licked your chin, “Cerberus!” Someone yelled and wouldn’t you know its the same guy you saw on deck, he visibly released a breath seeing the dog with you. “Thank god I though he’d be half way to the kitchen by now.” He spoke making his way over grabbing the dogs collar but not pulling him away from you letting you continue to pet him. “Well if he did make it there I’m sure he’d have no problems getting whatever he wanted, wouldn’t you cutie pie.” The last part you spoke in your puppy dog voice. Behind Brock Bravo team was peaking around the corner watching the interaction, “Does he seriously not know its her? Ray come on even the dog knew let me call dibs on her.” Sonny begged, making Ray hit him again. “Relax Sonny he’ll figure it out.” Ray at least hoped he would.
Cerberus had moved from the floor to crawling in your lap forcing you to fall back against the wall not that you minded at all, making small talk with his handler Davis walked passed bravo huddled around the corner, “why in the world are y’all crowding the hallway?” “We are watching Brock and Guardian.” At Clays explanation Sonny huffed, “more like watching him tank it with her.” Davis shook her head. What would these boys do without her. Strolling past the operators, “Hey Guardian, nice flying thanks again for helping us get these guys out of trouble.” She said giving Brock a firm pat on the back, knowing it finally clicked when his eyes widened. “No problem anytime,” giving you a nod of her head goodbye she walked past turning around frantically pointing at you behind your back. “It’s her!” She mouthed, “I didn’t know you were bravo.” You said noticing the matching patches on his shirt and the dogs vest quickly assuming that’s their unit patch. “And you didn’t tell me you were my angel.” You could feel the blush crawling up your cheeks. “You know my official call sign is Guardian right, you’re the only one that calls me angel.”
Even though he knew he didn’t have a right to he felt a sense of possessiveness flood him, good he should be the only one who gets to call you that. You peeked around Brock to see Bravo duck back behind the wall, with a laugh you stood giving Cerberus a final pet behind the ears. “Looks like your team is waiting for you, Don’t be a stranger Bravo 5.” You winked, waving to the team that was trying to act nonchalant as you passed. The second you were out of sight they swarmed Brock who was telling Cerberus what a good boy he was leading him to you. “So what happened?” Looking at his team leader with a lovestruck look, “I’m never leaving this boat.”
Bravo team was off for a few days waiting for the target package to get cleared while word didn’t slow down for you, you did find yourself spending your free time with Bravo, and Brock. It was weird getting to know the teams you saved you knew next time you’d be even more worried knowing your friends were the ones down there putting personalities to a unit was dangerous, but you don’t regret it.
“Not that we don’t love having you slum with us why haven’t you invited any of your hot fighter pilots to join us?” Sonny asked, you were all playing rounds of call of duty in their little living room area they had it was the last day they had on the carrier you can admit you were going to miss them maybe one more than the others, Brock glared at him from beside you even cerb picked his head up of your lap to give the man a look. “Well Sonny we don’t really hang out like you guys do.” Now that got Jasons attention the team was everything to them he couldn’t imagine doing it alone, “Why not?”
“It’s more of a constant competition between pilots we don’t lets lose around each other,” you shrugged missing the look they all had, the next day you had another mission, just a simple strike and come back, you were on the deck doing preflight check with the crew. Just as you were about to climb in you heard your name being shouted, confused you turned around you saw Bravo team with their bags packed early, you had all said goodbye last night since you were supposed to be gone when they left, “What are you guys still doing here?” You reached down to pet Cerb who pulled against the leash Brock held to rub against your legs, “We had something we wanted to give you.” Jason said reaching out and patting your arm sticking something there, yo looked down at what once was an empty Velcro square was now covered with a Bravo patch, “We wanted you to know that we think of you as one of our own, that you always have a place with us at home or outside the wire.”
Taking a breath you swallowed the lump in your throat only being able to nod in thanks or your emotions would get the best of you, walking to the helicopter waiting for them each member took a turn saying goodbye again and patting the patch on your arm signifying they agreed with Jasons words, “Be safe up there girly, give em hell, death via Bravo from the sky!” Sonny shouted pointing to the sky making you and Brock who was the last one laugh at his antics, “so.” You dragged out, “so” Brock had a whole speech he wanted to say but the second he looked into your eyes he forgot every last word. Settling for a hug he wrapped you in his arms squeezing you tight, “I’m gonna miss you angel.” Sighing falling deeper into his chest, “I’ll miss you too, Bravo 5,” giving him one more smile you pulled away knowing the tower wouldn’t be happy if you were late taking off. You watched Brock walk away until he turned back and shouted “My number is sewn on the back of that patch so you don’t lose it!” Laughing and slightly giddy like a school girl who’s crush just asked you out you climbed in your jet. Fastening your belt you caught a glimpse of the patch, you didn’t thing anything could feel better then being in your jet but this time it felt that much sweeter. “Tower to Guardian you’re clear for take off.” With the go ahead you launched your jet off the deck and into the air ending up beside the Blackhawk oh how things have changed since your escort. The guys beating their fist in the air and a few against the patch that matched your new one. Giving your own a tap you dipped your wing twice as a final wave and shot off to your mission disappearing from sight. Normally you lived for work but with your newfound family maybe you’ll have something else to live for.
One year later
“And then the jet came flying over you could hear it coming a mile away” Sonny told the kids making fake jet noises to add to his storytelling a hand mimicking the maneuvers. It was a get together at Rays house everyone from Bravo was there including you, tucked under Brocks arm and cerb stuck to you on the other side feeling like the most protected person in the world stuck between two tier one seals that wouldn’t let anything happen to you, hell a whole team that wouldn’t and you felt that same about you them. “He’s told that story to everyone on base.” Brock whispered in your ear. “Well is a cool story sounds like an amazing pilot to pull that off.” You teased, making him let out a low chuckle nodding along. “Oh it was the best story, and that pilot is a special one. And Sonny is missing the best part excuse me.” Giving you a quick kiss he rushed to the other side of the fire joining in on the story pushing Sonny out of the way, “that story is cool but a even cooler one is how she got the name angle” as Brock launched into the story of your unofficial call sign you couldn’t help but look around and think how much things changed and how glad you were that you happened to walk passed havoc that faithful day.

Crossovers
Florence Pennyworth, I’m thinking that it would be interesting to see her with Leanna ‘Leah’ Elfman. I don’t have much for her, but I think it would take a little while for the two of them to get along. Leah might sometimes worry Dick is replacing their friendship when he moves into Wayne Manor - not that he’d do it on purpose, but part of her would wonder about it. That being said, I think when Leah can get passed that - they probably have a conversation which makes her realise she was overreacting a little - they’d be OK. Maybe not the closest, but Leah would know something was up when Florence goes missing. She’s out of Gotham by then, but they’d probably text or send silly things to each other, and it’s not like Florence to miss that; so, when she does, Leah does what she can to try helping her friend.
Leonie Murphy and Mackenzie ‘Kenzie’ Merritt would be a reporting team not to be trifled with. Honestly, these two would go at every story they could, determined to quell their insatiable curiosity. Initially, both of them would try to keep things from the other - after all, Vic being Cyborg is a secret Kenzie is determined to keep for him - but eventually they’d be a team to rival even Lois Lane. Also, can we talk about them helping each other with things? Training montage and suit making for Leonie, and her being there for Kenzie when Jason dies and Vic can’t be around?
Tessie Vannelli, the Coles and Tae all grew up in Haly’s Circus with Dick. Viola spent a lot of time with the Vannelli’s after she and Kit arrived - and their lives were turned upside down with the death of their parents getting there - for the pure fact she’s a fire breather; though, she starts as a juggler and progresses there. Tae loves making costumes for her - she’s one of his favourites - and they’re pretty close because of it. All three of them are devastated when her life is turned upside down, and though they’re willing to be there for her, when she goes missing they’re desperate to find her. When it becomes clear it might be more than they can handle, the boys have to get Viola to stop. Even when Haly’s disbands, Viola refuses to give up; and when she hears rumours about Joker? She’s terrified, especially for her friend. So, when Dick returns with their old friend, and the truth of the rumours is revealed? Cue heartbreak but also the three of them trying to help her; Kit is the one who finds it all the hardest, just because that’s the sort of person he is, and Tae is honestly a little afraid of her. Overall though, Circus kids stick together, and they’ll do what they can to make things easier for their childhood friend. Also, I have a feeling Tessie would be shipping Kit and Tae alongside Viola.
Brandy Hayes with Elodie Klecko (a multiverse OC of mine); they’re both part of the Statesmen. I feel the two of them would be pretty good friends, and they’d try to look out for each other whenever possible - be it on missions or just in general life. I can imagine the mayhem they’d cause together, but also banding together when things are happening within the Statesmen.
Callie Raeken with Camila and Ryan McCall (Scott’s cousins). They wouldn’t really have known her before, and I can see Camila taring her with the same scepticism she shows everyone; Ryan would be far more sympathetic towards her, and constantly be trying to make sure she was OK; he’d do the same for Theo as well, but I have a feeling Callie might need that support a little more than her brother. I could totally see him having a crush on her at some point - if it’s reciprocated or not, I don’t know - but he’d always be telling her random facts to try helping. Eventually, Camila would probably realise that Callie wasn’t so bad, it would take a while for them to get there, but when they do she’s one of the most loyal friends a person can have.
Elvira Levitsky and Irisa Kuznetsov. Both of them are Healers - though Elvira’s Tailor skills as well would be something Ris would love to learn more about. Depending on how Elvira left the Little Palace would shift their relationship I think. Irisa left the Little Palace because she hated it there; she ran away, and if they were there together that might make things rocky for the two of them; on the other hand, it might also actually make them closer. Irisa needs someone who can help her figure out what she wants, because this is really the first time she’s done something for herself. The Crows would be a massive help, but if she had someone who understood her a little? That would help her immensely.
Hope Wood would adopt Phoenix Dumbledore on sight. I can totally see Hope sticking up for the girl, especially if she’s sorted into Hufflepuff because Hope misses Cedric. She’d totally be up for taking Phoenix under her wing if she needed the help, and would prank anyone who even tried getting on her nerves (think the twins protecting Harry during second year, and you’ve got how I could see it going). That being said - and I haven’t actually posted anything about them because they became a side characters in Hope’s story - but I have a couple of Beauxbatons OCs. I can’t remember names - they’re in a folder somewhere for old fanfiction planning - but one was a prankster girl who was constantly in trouble, and her best friend who was always trying to get her out of it. I can see him having a soft spot for Phoenix - at least one parent is a teacher - but his friend doesn’t really get along with her due to the connection with Fleur. However, both of them are willing to try helping the girl smile when she needs it, and I feel like at least one of them would occasionally ask Fleur about her when they go back to school.
If I’m sticking with the Nico universe, seeing Teagan O’Neal with A.J. and Teddy Kane would be a lot of fun, I think. I can see A.J. being protective of Nico with everything; especially because of how Teagan and Dick appear to be sometimes as well. I think Teddy would be a little intimidated by her, but would totally be up for helping her integrating a little more with the Titans. I have a whole heap of DC OCs that could also be interesting to explore, but I need to develop them a little more. But I love the idea Teagan and A.J. not exactly seeing eye-to-eye, but if Nico was ever in danger you can bet everything that they’d work together to protect him. No matter what.
Booker’s sibling. I have a really rough idea for another friend of the group, possibly a cheerleader but who doesn’t take things too seriously. They’d probably have issues with Terri in a way, but when things start getting real I can see them helping each other out, and finding a friendship there that they never saw coming (one day I’ll introduce these guys properly, but I hope this is okay for a rough idea at the moment).

SEAL Team S2 E2
And on to episode 2. Lets go:
S2 E2 - Never Say Die
Bio hazard? This looks like a not awesome way to start a show lol. Also, the name of this episode doesn’t help me any with the anxiety lmao.
Oooh. I like how the intro is them coming up out of the water from episode 1. Cool.
Congrats Jason, you figured out coffee.
What is Elmo though?
It doesn’t surprise me a million times over that Sonny got into a literal fight with a literal fucking tree lmao.
Ray, no sir. No. (Even if I know you’ll be back bc internet).
HIS HEAD IS NOT FINE. Why does no one know this??
OOOOh, we’re gonna meet the parents. (No - well, yes. I’m glancing over shirtless scenes from now on. All that really happens is staring and not really thinking anyway so it’s not really necessary........) This will end badly, I imagine. No parent wants that kind of pain for their kid. So they’re probably going to try and change Stella’s mind about being with Clay before something serious happens (also, wahhhhhhhhhh bc spoilers bc again, I have the internet) because of how dangerous is job is. Just my thoughts lol.
I don’t care what anyone says, I really think Jason is a great dad. Home family and Bravo family can’t be easy to juggle. But then again, I feel like spouses or partners or whoever should understand what they’re getting themselves into marrying someone in the military. Especially a spec ops team member. Again, just my 2 cents.
Damn guys, 10 minutes into this show and I’m already getting wordy. That doesn’t bode well for the next 33 minutes of my life lol.
Oh good, they’re going into tunnels...I’m sorry, with ANTHRAX? Oh boy. Yep, worried about my boys rn. Nothing can go wrong? Sure. Then I wouldn’t have 31 minutes left of this show, huh?
So Mandy is in Mexico? Idk, I was writing a novel of a thought when she first came on. Didn’t pay much attention. Oops. Yep, that’s a body.
Oh Ray. I’m so sorry buddy. Of course Jason’s still being stubborn Adam.
I hate tunnels. Just saying. Lmao Sonny. Spiders. I’m sorry, no comms? I don’t enjoy this. Not good. Bad. Very very bad.
Hah. Hahahahahahahahahaha. Oml. Suckstart a pistol is a new one. Sonny, poor baby. It’s ok. Stinky boots and all, they still love you. Blame it on the dog lol.
Sorry, realized I watched into the tunnel scene without stopping to type haha. I’m still watching the tunnel scene.
Oh good. An explosion. Because fucking TUNNEL. Jesus.
WOOOOOW that tunnel scene was intense. I also had to watch it 2 times bc my kid started throwing up while I was watching the first time. FUN STUFF. The eldest got sick first, about 4 days ago. Then the youngest started puking this morning. It’s fun having multiple kids. Anyway. That tunnel scene had me for a minute even though I knew they didn’t die in it lol. That play by Mandy and Blackburn was genius!!! I’m glad the boys pulled through lol.
I really need to find out how many nicknames Sonny has for Clay.
Ooop. Jason. Ray. Again, ooop.
Oooooooh, the parents!!!! Yep, I kinda had an idea how this was going to go. “I DON’T PLAN ON DOING THIS UNTIL I’M DEAD” I’m dead Clay. I’M DEAD. Dammit I HATE EVERYTHING RN.
Oh shiiiiiiiit Alana. Ok, for all the things on the internet, I must have not read up on Jason Hayes as I thought I did hahaha. Cause I was, indeed, shocked by that one.
Wow.
Well, onto Episode 3!
All the love - A

Interview with upcoming artist (February): Owen Walsh
Tumblr media
Your music spans and mixes many styles; what do you count as your primary musical influences?
I think the first time I can really recall being inspired to become a musician was when I watched the Jack Black movie School of Rock as a young kid. As it was for many people my age, that movie was nothing short of foundational in my youth. Because I'd already been taking violin lessons for years before seeing it, I had only perceived of music as something calculated, mathematical, and laborious. School of Rock made me realize that music can be chaotic, rebellious, and, most importantly, fun. As Jack's character sings, rock got no reason, rock got no rhyme.
That movie paved the way for my long obsession with the rock band Led Zeppelin. Through middle school, I could play you any Jimmy Page riff you asked of me (with varying degrees of proficiency). Because Led Zeppelin's catalogue is so diverse, and incorporates quite a bit of stripped-down, Americana, traditional music, it eventually led me toward discovering the vast world of folk music. Bob Dylan was probably the first major folk singer about whom I became a total fanatic. I was just as enthralled by his enigmatic lyricism in 2011 as audiences were in the 1960s.
After discovering Dylan, I realized how many great lyricists were out there, old and new. John Prine, Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile, Son House, Bobbie Gentry, Carole King, Hayes Carll, "I could go on," as they say.
Nowadays, I guess anyone who can find an interesting way to tell a story is an inspiration to me, even if they're not a musician. I watch a comedian or a journalist who you just can't stop listening to or watching, and I try to abstract what the common denominator is, and experiment with how that can be incorporated musically.
You began your musical life as a violinist and have had various other bits of classical training; does any of that musical experience find its way into your current songwriting?
I imagine it does. Sometimes I try too hard to incorporate something fancy melodically or harmonically into my songwriting, because I feel like it needs to be tricky or complicated to be good. But the songs that just flow out of me--unimpeded by my self-critiquing inner voice--are usually the better ones. We don't all have to be Jacob Collier, and thank god for that.
I still play the violin, however I've traded the formal, proper techniques I once spent years cultivating for a freer, Appalachian, bluegrassy style. But I don't think I could have found "my" way of playing without learning the "right" way first. It's sort of like that saying about how you have to learn the rules before you can break them accordingly… was that Mark Twain? Every obscure internet quote eventually gets attributed to Mark Twain, so we'll go with him.
Some of your songs evoke a strong sense of place for the part of the world you grew up in. How do you think Northeast Pennsylvania has influenced your music?
It's a little bit ironic that several of my songs have lines about getting back home to Pennsylvania or never wanting to leave Pennsylvania. In actuality, I'm at a stage of my life where my partner Mollie and I are actively trying to leave PA and move somewhere new--hopefully Asheville, NC.
But the area I grew up in has certainly been impactful. I spent most of my childhood outdoors with my yellow lab mix Allie. Exploring the endless acres of woods, kayaking the Lackawaxen and Delaware rivers, spying on wildlife through binoculars, and falling in love with everything under the umbrella term of nature. Many of my songs incorporate outdoorsy, environmentally influenced imagery, metaphors between the natural world and the human condition. And I'm sure that it's no coincidence considering where I grew up.
I've also attempted to use my music to express my deep anxiety and existential dread about climate chaos, habitat destruction, and all of that end-of-the-world stuff that seems to become more pertinent every day. Not to say that people who grew up in cities can't have an emotional connection to climate change concerns, but I just know personally that when I'm overcome with worry about it all, it feels like I can see all those memories of my childhood decaying before me. The streams I swam in drying up, the trees I clambered around in chopped down, and the animals I watched through binoculars, gone for good. It's too big a problem to even think about, but we need to find a way to think about it and address it head on, and I guess that's what music is here for. To help us do that.
Owen will be playing on Saturday, February 4th, 7:30 p.m., in the Somerville Songwriter Sessions, along with Jessye DeSilva and host Rachel Marie at the Somerville Armory Cafe, 191 Highland Ave, Somerville MA. (Great music, great food, free parking.) $15 suggested donation. Questions? [email protected]
