Tomorrow We Live (1943)
Tumblr media
Basic Story: Jean Baptise is a Frenchman trying to get to England with information on German submarine pens who ends up in the town of St. Pierre-le-Port.
Fan Thoughts: Tomorrow We Live centers around the town of St. Pierre-le-Port under German occupation, and the small and large acts of resistance the townspeople commit to hinder the Germans and aid the Allies.  Jean Baptiste is a fugitive with information on the submarine base at Saint-Nazaire, and is trying to get to England to get there to share the information with the British.  After stumbling into the shop and then house of the Mayor’s daughter Marie DuSchen trying to hide from the Germans, Marie helps hide him with Madame Labouche who has hidden men before while distracting the Germans with her skills as a baker.  Marie and her father Mayor Pierre DuSchen look like collaborators from the outside, but are actually manipulating the bumbling Commandant and aiding the Resistance, until the Resistance successfully destroys a train carrying armaments.  After this, the SS takes over the town and the film loses it’s light-hearted feel as townspeople are taken as hostages and then shot as reprisals for refusing to give up Resistance members.  Jean and Marie try to flee from the shipyard and are nearly caught, but another Resistance member throws the master switches for the shipyard lights, and the British immediately bombard them, allowing them to escape in the chaos.  Unfortunately, while there’s nothing technically wrong with this film, there also isn’t much to make this film stand out from others with similar storylines, keeping this film from being a must-watch.
Warnings: people shot on and off screen (non-graphic)
Available On: Prime Video, Tubi, YouTube

Moliere, a French film 2007.
I loved this comedy, drama, tragedy, romance. I just caught it as it was leaving Tubi App, just now, which I highly recommend if you like Theatre movies similar to Shakespeare plays or English King & Queen Movies.
Spoiler Alert*
I liked how even though he left the Madam so she could save her marriage and also her daughter from being married off to the wrong man, deep down he wish he could stay. As he expressed his true wishes to stay with the madam, as she was already married...
Its so sad and it shows the difference between real life in love and movies...he even asked for her forgiveness for leaving her later on as she was on her death bed.
I too have felt the same dream. Wishing to be with someone you love, but could never work in selfish endeavors of what the heart wants.
I definitely resignated with the main character, Jean Baptiste, he was so observant, charming, a smart ass, and funny to watch as he was feeling the same way we all feel about watching, yet still protecting someone as crazy and selfish like Mister Jourdain, who was only interested in having other ppl help him woo another madame, even though he was already married, but would never want his wife to do the same. Jourdain was so up his ass, he didn't even know he was being punked and played by the girl he was interested in and the guy he sent as his messenger. I felt sorry for him, but at the same time was thinking "what an idiot." "What an asshole." Lol good fun, comedic drama.
Grandma would love this one too. Baptiste had a sort of Pirates of The Carribean, Johnny Depp, Tim Burton edge mixed with Ghost boi from Umbrella Academy (my other favorite show) except not as selfish, buy still into love like his character.
We used to watch movies and TV shows at her house. Especially the English shows about the king and queen Court on PBS. So much eloquently drawn, but petty strings in the house of every castle. We love mysteries, comedies, and love stories like this with hidden themes and deeper meanings.
When Mister Jourdain found out that other lady (cough cough thot) was actually cruel. It reminded me of how I finally saw Jay the 3rd time without really seeing them as cute anymore. The way they treated ayunna, asked her if it was ok to flirt with a totally different woman at Culver's in front of her, even though Jay had just brought me back into the picture like almost a month in at the time (as the other woman), and much more...but it shows. Just because they're pretty, ppl like that don't deserve anyone if they treat people like they're disposables. As the madam Jourdain was intelligent but used her smarts for selfish reasons, stringing along multiple men for money and gifts and of course sexual favors if she liked. She used ppl just like Jay. Smart, cunning, and got away with it.
I was technically Baptiste and Jourdain in this case. Except I'm glad I left JA alone. They were definitely not worth my time or romantic attention. She was a thot too, used me.
But YES! Good movie, good laugh, good drama and ending 😁

Gold & Marble
The Saint-Eustache Church of Paris (First arrondissement, Île-de-France, France).
The construction of the current building was ordered in 1532, in order to offer the city of Paris a church worthy of its greatness.
The initial style of the building was intended as Gothic, despite this late construction. However, the church will have, for its details, characteristics of Renaissance style, and its facade, for example, dates from the nineteenth century, and remains unfinished today, thus only one of the two towers planned has been realized.
The monument, itself, contains sumptuous statues, paintings, and various pieces of Art, which are the fruit of its history, making it a very popular and appreciated tourist place.
(The photographs show, in order: the chapel of the crucifixion; the south transept; a view of several chapels; Plaster stoup of 1834, by Louis-Eugène Bion, "Pope Alexander II instituting the use of holy water", detail; oil on canvas, Tobit and the Angel, Jean-Christophe Windland, 1575; decorative motifs of Renaissance style; the tomb of Jean-Baptiste Colbert, by Antoine Coysevox and Jean-Baptiste Tuby, 1687; Renaissance pillar heads; a view of the organ; and finally, the nave. The original photographs are not mine and are under free license)
