LET ME YELL ABOUT WHY I LOVED THIS MOMENT from Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi | "Brotherhood". I have long argued that the "Jedi Code" is more of a meditation mantra, because almost every single time it comes up in supplementary material (it doesn't exist in the movies or TCW) it's used during a moment when a Jedi is trying to calm themselves down or meditate in the Force. And I have long argued that I don't think it's a literal guideline for how to live their lives, but instead a description of the Force. Because the prequels Jedi taught two different versions of the "Jedi Code": There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no chaos, there is harmony. There is no death, there is the Force. Emotion, yet peace. Ignorance, yet knowledge. Passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony. Death, yet the Force. The second is from the Kanan comic, where Depa is leading a meditation with the younglings, while Obi-Wan and Mace and Yoda watch over them. So, if both of these versions are taught by the prequels Jedi, how can they both be applicable? Because they're not describing Jedi--they're describing the Force. They're describing what it's like to interact with the Force. That's why they use it as a meditation mantra! The Force itself has no emotion, it has no ignorance, it has peace. The Force has no passion, it has serenity. The Force has no chaos, it has harmony/ The Force has no death, it is the Force. Yet, when a Jedi interacts with it, they have emotion but they seek peace. They have ignorance yet they seek knowledge. They have passion yet they seek serenity. They have chaos yet they seek harmony. They have death yet they seek the Force, they become one with it when they die. Then this short story is about Anakin becoming one with the Force when he dies-- A warmth without temperature. An embrace without touch. A belonging despite isolation. A quiet that revealed. It's so evocative of the Jedi's description of the way they interact with the Force via the "Jedi Code"! It's the Force versus what you're bringing to the Force, it's about what a Jedi seeks in the Force--Anakin has no temperature, but he seeks warmth. Anakin has no touch, but he seeks an embrace. Anakin has isolation, but he seeks belonging. There is quiet in the Force. This is what the Force is, this is how the Jedi interact with it, they bring their own experiences to it and work to shed those things to find what they need in the Force, this is why the "Jedi Code" is structured the way it is and Anakin experiences that exact same thing when he steps into it. And I am legit emotional because I think of how much comfort and warmth and clarity the Force can bring when you let it move through you, when you let it embrace you, rather than trying to dominate it.

Contrary to popular misconception, the Jedi Code forbidding attachments does not equate to forbidding love.

Y’all I am having a Moment rn. It’s Late and I am Feeling Things.
I love the Jedi sm like what the heck????? They’re just so light and good and the whole concept of striving for and protecting peace is just so good.
The type of good that’s hard to find in media nowadays for some reason (or maybe I’m just bad at finding them XD).
I love their culture, I love the interactions we see between them, the care and fascination with the galaxy shared between all of them.
I love the council and the burdens they carry to try do as much good as possible.
I love the archivists and the healers and the explorers that make up the branches of the jedi order.
I don't think the jedi needed to change, they were doing their best in a bad position, desperately trying to keep as many people alive as possible and I love them for it.
They don’t need to be edgy and give off “I’m dangerous” vibes like a lot of heroes do in movies. They stand out, they look at peace outside of battle, and they are kind. So so kind and I love it sm.
They had the choice to leave at any time, but they didn’t, they didn’t leave the order when times got hard, they believed in what they fought for and wanted light and peace for everyone. And the thought of their fate breaks my heart.
AHHH I’m fjwkdkwokdjwoxoxkxjx-
Haha excuse my rant I have NO ONE irl to talk to about my fixation XD

Speaking of Code, what exactly was the Jedi Code? Not to get attached to people? If so, they break their own code by having padawans and younglings. You mean to tell me that you can’t be attached to your master and teacher, the one who taught you everything you know?
Sounds like BS to me. Unless someone can explain it too me.

Random thoughts about the Jedi Code.
(Reminder that I am no expert, so what I'm going to write at are just that : thoughts and opinions)
I guess what irks me is that, in my opinion, those who said that the Jedi Code/mantra is wrong take it way too literally.
People sees sentence like :
There is no emotion, there is peace
Or
There is no passion, there is serenety
And immediately thinks "oh, the Jedi aren't allowed to have or express emotions. How unhealthy !"
Now, I'm not religious but my mother is and so when I was younger I sometimes went to the church with her. And of course, I know the jedi order and christianism isn't the same thing at all, but what I realised is that religious writing have deeper meaning than it seems. And sometimes this meaning isn't quite obvious at the first read. Otherwise, there wouldn't be someone willing to spends minutes explaining one single sentences.
And even if we don't talk about religion, there's also philosophy. I don't know about other countries but where I'm from philosophy exams consisted in reading a complex text (sometimes long, sometimes short), difficult to understand and then "rewrite" in our own words and making it easier too understand. And sometimes I will actually spend an hour trying to understand it, because often the meaning of the text wasn't obvious. Because I had to study it and actually make an effort trying to understand it.
What am I trying to say ? Each field of knowledge has it's own vocabulary, it's way of expressing itself. Same words don't always have the same meaning depending in which field it's used (like attachment in psychology vs attachment in Buddhism). And knowledge, especially the philosophycal kind, is usually expressed in a more complex way than we would like.
I don't think I'm doing a good job at explaining this. Ironically, I'm not very good with words.
Basically, when I see "There is no emotion, there is peace", or there is no passion, there is harmony", I don't immediately think "the Jedi can't have emotion". I think about how none of the Jedi are emotionless, I think about Obi-wan joking with Anakin. I think about Obi-wan laughing in the elevator scene. I think about how kind Plo Koon is. I think about looking so broken as he hold his dying Master. I think about obi-wan getting angry at Anakin before the fight with Dooku. (I realise of course, that obi-wan is my main exemple, but since this is mostly based on the movies it's either he or Anakin). Anyway, if Jedi were forbidden to have emotion, he would have been expulsed a long time ago. But I also think about how Yoda said that "fear lead to anger. Anger leads to hate. And hate lead to suffering". And so, all of that considered, when I read "there is no emotion, there is peace" what I understand is that one shouldn't allow their emotion to control them. One can feel emotion and acknowledge them, but should always have a clear head, be balanced, before acting. Because instantly acting on emotions, mean acting on impluse. And acting on impulse when lives are on the line isn't the best decision, in my opinion.
Anyway, I'm not sure if most of you will be able to understand what i tried to say since I am, I repeat, bad with words (and English isn'tmy first language, I only use it on social media), but I wanted to share anyway.

Teenage Exocolonist Kids: How would they be as Jedi?
Sol: Our nonbinary icon is THE Jedi, especially after Transcendence. Goes on a long multi-lifetime journey to learn to accept there are things they cannot change and tragedies they cannot avoid is PEAK Jedi story. Definetly Master/Councilor material
Tangent/Tang: Eh, Tangent would probably not be a very good Jedi when it comes to active duty. She struggles with empathy which is a core Jedi value, but I think Jedi training would help her come to terms with her identity in a very helpful way. Definitely a more "stays at the Temple and researches/debates" type Jedi than one who goes out on active field work.
Cal/Recalcitrance: My gentle, plant-loving pacifist husband is PRIME Jedi material! Definitely head of the AgriCorps and teaches the younglings about cool plants from across the Galaxy on his off days. Man is literally great for the role of a Jedi. He's a Master, but probably not on the Council as he has no patience for politics.
Nem/Anemone: Eh... I do not think Nem would be a very good Jedi. Too angry, too attached to the memories of her loved ones. Relaly I see her more as a nat-born soldier or a light-aligned Bounty Hunter who works with the Jedi, but doesn't really get them. Not to say she's bad, but if she were trained as a Jedi she'd probably Fall at some point. However, I do think she'd make her way back to the Light eventually, with help. But, I don't see my girl as a very good Jedi.
Dys/Dysthymia: Dys would be a good Jedi... but only in certain circumstances. Definitely a Jedi Shadow, but with how he fails to get along with others I can't see him doing traditional Jedi things. However, he does have an instinctive knowledge of letting go. But, I do see his inability to feel fear as a detriment. Jedi train to overcome their fear and at in spite of it, but since Dys can't feel fear, i feel he would be missing a key piece of Jedi education. Not good.
Marz/Marzipan: Marz, actually would be a GREAT Jedi! Granted, not a very conventional one, with her love of the spotlight and drive to succeed, I see her as the Jedi's Liason to the Senate, as one of the few of the Order with a head for Politics. This lady would have the Senate and the Media eating out of her hand, giving the Jedi a sterling reputation. While she struggles with passion in some cases, I think she could easily overcome it!
Tammy/Aspartame: Did someone say Creche MasteR? Because this lovely lady is a Creche-Master! She would not only be great at caring for the Younglings, she's treasure every moment of working with them and readying them for the journeys ahead. And is Definetly secretly a Master and a badass, she actively chooses not to kick people's asses. Peace and love, baby.
Vace/Olivaceous: Not a good Jedi. At all. Too proud, too full of ambition and vainglory to hack it as one of the Servants of the Republic. Probably a Mandalorian, honestly, and a neutrally aligned one. If he were to become a Jedi he would fall. Period. He's too much like Anakin, too focused on his own glory and power to understand the Jedi Way.
Nomi-Nomi/Nomination: I'm...honestly at a loss, here. I think Nomi would make a very... weird Jedi? But a good one, probably? They're definitely kind and compassionate enough to be a Jedi, but they struggle with attachment so... probably a mid-ranked Knight who's a Smash Hit with the Younglings. Probably the first Jedi Twitch Streamer.
Rex/Basorexia: Honestly? Rex'd be a good Jedi. No in-depth explanations here, just vibes. Definitely Jedi material

Some people think Anakin's assignment to spy on Palpatine was against the Jedi Code, because Anakin said so.
I tend to disagree.
I just don't think Anakin is such a good source on what is for or against the Jedi Code, precisely because Anakin has trouble dealing with abstractions. He tends to see things in terms of teams, in terms of enemies and friends.
Tumblr media
He seems easily manipulated if you sell him the right narrative, because he doesn't have a strong internal set of morals that is based on actions. Anything can be justified if done for the right people against the wrong people. This makes Anakin self-focused, seeing things from the perspective of his interests rather than analyzing through some structure. This makes Anakin an unreliable source on topics because he simply isn't used to seeing things from a technical and factual way.
The clearest example of this: Anakin doesn't understand why dictatorships are a bad thing. More specifically, Anakin thinks dictatorships are okay if the dictator is "wise."
So, for this situation? We don't actually know what the Jedi Code says. We get some mentions in the movies that seem completely unrelated to the legends version. (The Legends version is quite short and sounds more like a mantra. In the Movies, we get a scene where the council mentions not being able to have two padawans, suggesting something more technical.) There will always be a level of speculation here.
So, let's speculate!
Could "Don't spy on your friends" be a rule? Considering the Jedi stance on attachment and the fact that we know undercover tactics and stealth are perfectly commonplace for the Jedi, I don't think this is true.
I do tend to think that as an Order, the Jedi have sworn an oath to protect the Republic. I believe that something like this is what Anakin could have been referring to. I just don't think he would be able to interpret it accurately.
Anakin, being who he is, would be much more likely to understand this as "defend the people representing the powers of the Republic" rather than "Protect the principles of the Republic." In his mind, he may directly equate something like that to defending and supporting Palpatine personally, falling back on the mentalities of "us" and "them" that he tends to display.
I don't think Anakin would be able to conceive that the Jedi investigating a public servant, the Chancellor in office under suspicions of treason, is actually an act of protecting the Republic. That holding the people in representation accountable and in transparency is, in fact, defending the principles of the Republic.
The idea of the Chancellor commiting treason against the Republic must sound ludicrous to him, because to him, the Chancellor is the Republic.
Conclusion: I don't think Anakin actually knows what he's talking about when he says he's being asked to do something against the Code, and I think Obi-Wan couldn't even bother to debate it with him at that point.

My Promise To You II
Anakin Skywalker x Jedi!Reader
description: Y/N helps Anakin see the light
word count: 2.4k
warning: mentions of the Dark Side, mentions of death, poor living conditions, murder, and fluff.
masterlist | oneshots
Tumblr media
It had been roughly six months since Anakin turned to the dark side of the force, leaving everyone and everything he knew behind. During the first couple of months Anakin as Darth Vader became ruthless. Y/N didn’t recognize the man that stood in front of her. She didn’t understand that what he was doing was wrong, how the Imperial Order was toxic and killing people. She cried every morning when he would leave their room. She felt trapped, a prisoner in her own way. Yet she knew that going with Anakin would save more lives than she could count. Some nights Anakin would come in angry and start throwing things. He would never throw in her direction or anything complex, mostly a pillow. But he still came into the home they built together with fists of rage. She would ask him, he would say nothing or something along the lines of “everything is fine”. Clearly, she knew that he was struggling. It was clockwork; he would come in upset, angry, or silent; he would throw something towards the window overlooking the galaxy or planet they were on trying to calm down; he would hang his head down, sighing at his internal battle and close his eyes. Y/N learned early on that it is best to let him be by himself until he collects his posture again. She would come up, wrap her arms around his waist or rub his back. She didn’t agree with his decisions, but this was still the man she was in love with. She would care for him, even in the darkest of times.
“Anakin, talk to me. I may not understand, but I will listen.” She whispered laying her head on his back right shoulder.
“I want you to understand. I want you to know what is happening. I want you to be with me ruling, but they see me as a child. I am a ruthless ruler. I am Darth Vader and they are treating me the same as the Jedi Council. I am not a child that sits on the sidelines, I am a powerful Sith Lord. They will obey me!” Anakin growled holding onto the railing overlooking the living room area.
“Can I ask you something?” She pondered waiting for a response. He stayed quiet, nodding in approval.
“You left the Jedi Council for many reasons, not only for saving my life but that the Council would not make you a Master. It seems as if they are treating you the same here.” She paused, thinking of the right way to word such a delicate subject matter. “And you said it yourself. You’re a powerful Sith Lord. Show them who you are, and demand control and authority. And if not, show them who you are.” She turned him to face her, raising her hand to hold his face in a caring gesture.
“This is why I am glad to have you. I know I haven’t been the most attentive lover, but that will change.” Anakin grinned pulling her close to his chest in a tight hug to which she gave back.
Tumblr media
Y/N walked around the ship, occasionally stopping to look outside the windows. Everyone on the ship knew who she was. She was Darth Vader’s girl. He referred to her as his wife to everyone. It was easier to explain than the girlfriend who came because she made a promise to not leave him. She was depressed, quiet, and usually never spoke a word to anyone except the dining hall crew. She was kind to them, they were seen as low-life servants. She took pity on them, making an effort to show kindness. Although those who held rank, she was kurt, rude, and annoyed with. She never said hello to them. Some of them would become wimps and run to tell their commander, then to Darth Vader himself. He hated when people would come to him complaining about his girl.
“Do you know who I am? What gives you the right to come to me and complain about my wife? What did you do to make her frown at you? Do not come to me with this again!” Vader’s booming voice echoed in the hallways. No one came to him again. As for the other powerful Sith Lords, they saw this rage and force of power, so they started giving him respect and leadership. Darth Sidious however showed his fondness toward Vader since the beginning, hence why the other Siths don’t like him as much. Y/N thought of them as children playing and not getting their attention from a parent. They whine, cry, and throw tantrums. She would roll her eyes and show them no fear or authority whenever she had to be in the same room or breathing vicinity as them. This was yet another reason they hated Vader, but he always chose Y/N as she did for him.
Tumblr media
Anakin walked into their home earlier than he normally did. Y/N could tell before he even walked in the door that something was off, deeply off. The past couple of days he’s been coming in talking about how things are changing and he’s not agreeing with them. The Imperial Army is killing innocent people’s lives for the fun of it. Some will go to random planets and if anyone they encounter gives a sliver of disrespect or doesn’t comply, they kill them on the spot. How could anyone do that? Willingly hunt down innocent lives and for what, power? Every time Y/N heard these “missions” or mentions of them, she would get physically sick to her stomach.
“And you wonder why you’ve been feeling this way? This isn’t you, Anakin. This place, the dark side of the force, everything here and what these people stand for, and what they’re doing. Ani, this is not you.” She stood in their kitchen resting her hands on the countertop looking at Anakin. “You don’t think this way or believe any of their lies. Darth Sidious grabbed onto you in your vulnerable state and made you believe he was Maker and could save everyone from themselves. In reality, everyone was doing just fine.” Y/N let out a long breath she didn’t know she was holding. She walked around the kitchen island to gently hold his face in her hands. He stood there dumbfounded at her words.
“I didn’t know you were paying attention or saw these signs. I thought you were depressed and you kept yourself quiet. I thought didn’t want to see.” He said leaning into her touch.
“I am depressed. We went through something traumatic. I walked through piles of our friends, mentors, and colleagues' bodies. I miss the Jedi Order. I miss fighting for what is right, but instead, I sit here and watch as these troopers, commanders, leaders, followers, these little do-good puppets follow an order that is corrupt and the exact opposite of what we fought to keep. The Imperial Order is not good, is not good for the people, and is not good for anyone and their home planet.” Y/N took a step back leaning against the counter, crossing her arms over her chest. “Anakin, do you see what I see?” She pleaded with him.
“I… I don’t know. I do and I see good that the Imperial Order is doing, but…” He trailed off.
“Ani. If you’re hesitant, then you know.” She looked at him with pleading eyes.
Tumblr media
That night Anakin and Y/N left in a pod ship together. They fled to Tatootine where they had heard Obi-Wan was hiding out. They heard through Anakin’s old Padawan, Ashoka Tano, and she would be meeting them there as well. They escaped the Order with a plan to destroy it from within. Of course, they couldn’t do it alone, they needed the help of the Jedi, but since Order 66 happened, most of them were gone or in hiding.
“Anakin, before we leave the ship, I need to talk with Obi-Wan first. You two did not leave on a good note. When he sees you, he’s going to be defensive, and same with Ashoka.” Y/N looked over at him.
“I understand.” He said quietly. There was a short pause of silence.
“Ani, I hope you know that I don’t blame you. I don’t blame you for leaving the Jedi Order. I don’t blame you for what you have done. You were manipulated by an old senile power hungry man. Anakin, I love you.” Y/N laid her head on the seat headrest, looking to her left to see his face.
“I love you, Y/N. I do, but I blame myself for what I have done. I willingly did these things and even though you do not blame me, I always will. I cannot turn back time and fix what actions I have committed.” He said sadly.
“No, but you can write over them and make things right again.” This time she leaned over to squeeze his hand.
They landed on Tatootine, docking the ship away from where Obi-Wan was living in case they came after Anakin and Y/N. She gave his hand another gentle squeeze before walking ahead of him and into Obi-Wan’s home.
“Obi!” She happily hugged him.
“Y/N, I cannot believe it is really you!” Obi-Wan hugged her back.
“He’s here with me.” She said immediately after they parted.
“He’s here? What do you mean? Did you drag him out of there?” He looked more concerned than angry. She sat down with him and explained while Anakin stood outside the home listening in. This was a place he grew to call home, even if his mother and him were slaves here. Even if she died here. She called it home and did Ani. After Y/N explained in great detail their past months, she motioned Anakin to walk in. Obi-Wan gave him a slight smile.
“You’re back.”Obi embraced him.
“I’m sorry.” Emotion overcame Ani as he leaned into Obi-Wan’s embrace.
“The past is the past. Now, how do you suggest we fight them?” Obi-Wan placed his hands on his hips.
Throughout the next few years, they gathered all the Jedi, clones, bounty hunters, and rebels that were willing to fight against the Imperial Army. It was a long journey, many people sacrificed their lives for the cause. Some days it was worth giving up, but waking up and seeing Anakin, Y/N knew she couldn’t Finally, victory had won and the Republic was restored. Obi-Wan, Y/N, and Anakin worked on making a new Jedi Order. One that fixed all the problems that were a reason for others to falter in the first place. To change the Order to become trustworthy and one they all can be proud of.
Anakin and Y/N decided on a little vacation to take the stress off of the past years. One where they could be together in love, and on that vacation they got engaged.
“Yes! Yes, Anakin I will marry you!” She exclaimed happily, wrapping her arms around his neck. Ani held her close, kissing her passionately.
Tumblr media
“Y/N, before we walk down I need to tell you something,” Obi said gently holding your elbow back. “I know that when we landed on Mustafar a year ago, I told you not to go with Anakin, but I see now that that was a mistake. Not only are you saving the galaxy and the new Jedi Order, but you saved Anakin. Maker only knows what would have happened if you did not go with him. I am sorry and I am ecstatic to be walking you down this aisle and being your soon-to-be husband’s best man.” Obi smiled a small tear daring to escape his eye as he looked at her with a father and best friend love.
“Obi-Wan. I know where your heart lies. I know that it was out of the goodness of your heart and that if you did stop me I would not hold it against you. I am glad that I could pull Anakin out of the darkness before it was too late. But we are here now, no need to look upon the past, the future has enough for us to handle. I love you Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Y/N hugged him while trying not to ruin her dress and he did the same.
He walked her down the aisle, giving her hand one last squeeze, and taking his place to stand behind Anakin. The officiant spoke and started the ceremony, though neither of the lovers could hear him. They were focused on each other and their love to pay attention to the boring details. They both read their personally written vows to each other, ignoring the “rules” of weddings and giving each other a small kiss after they read.
“Place the ring on her finger.” Anakin followed and placed the ring delicately on her ring finger. “Do you, Anakin Skywalker take Y/N Y/L/N to be your lawfully wedded wife? To love and cherish her through better or worse, sickness and in health, and for richer or poorer as long as you both shall live?” The officiant said, looking at Anakin.
“I do.” He smiled wide, holding up her hand to give her knuckles a kiss which made her blush.
“Place the ring on his finger.” Y/N followed suit, continuing to hold his hand. “Do you, Y/N Y/L/N take Anakin Skywalker to be your lawfully wedded husband? To love and cherish him through better or worse, sickness and in health, and for richer or poorer as long as you both shall live?” The officiant said again, looking at Y/N.
“I do.” She softly said looking at him with love in her eyes.
“By the power invested in me and the planet of Naboo, you may now kiss your bride.” He stepped to the side, giving the couple their moment. Anakin picked Y/N up, twirling her around as she held his face in her hands, kissing each other. He set her down as the guests erupted in cheers. They walked down the aisle, but halfway Anakin pulled her back to him and this time he held her face in his hands kissing her deeply as she rested her hands on his hips. A love that would last a lifetime and be remembered by all in the entire galaxy.

One thing that confuses me about the whole “the Jedi can’t marry or have families because it will distract them from their job of protecting everyone” is that…. That just doesn’t track? Soldiers who fight to protect their homeland often have families. Their families are even their primary motivators, but that doesn’t stop them from risking death for their country and people! Or even for the people of other countries! Imagine that in context of a Jedi — of course they’ll work to keep the peace because they want their families to grow up in a safe galaxy. The same with police officers, putting their lives on the line every day, even if they have families to look after too. What about all the great changemakers in history? If I’m remembering correctly, Amy Carmichael, a missionary who saved many children and I believe adopted a TON of them, was able to be both a mom and a missionary who sought to help those around her. Not only that, but families are practical for the Jedi Order. On balance, there would probably be more Force sensitives that way, so instead of barely 10k knights to protect a whole galaxy, there might be hundreds of thousands, even millions. Then, not every Jedi would have to become a peacekeeper who spent long periods away from home, putting themselves in danger. They could choose the life that fit them best. Plus, there would also be a strong community of families to look after either tragically orphaned kids or kids whose parents had been called away.
I just think the Jedi could have had families and it would have been fine. People can multitask. Jedi could serve “tours”, like a soldier, and then retire perhaps and focus on less dangerous work, especially if there were more of them than in canon. Idk, it’s possibly not perfect in concept but I think it could be made to work. And everyone would have been a LOT happier to have a choice in remaining spouseless and childless.

A missed golden opportunity with Palpatine (that would have made him more of an iconic villain):
We should have seen him use the Jedi Code to justify his atrocities, just to fuck with the Jedi for fun.
"Oh, you're sad about the murdered younglings? Mourn them do not. Miss them do not <3"
"Oh, you're sad about the genocide of your entire religious order? Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force <3"
"Oh, you're sad about the destruction of your culture, and your whole way of life? Attachment leads to jealousy. Worrying about what we can't control and clinging to what we think is ours is wasted time and energy. The only constant in life is change <3
"Oh, you're traumatized and you fear what's gonna happen to you next? Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering <3"
And he should have said all this shit with the nastiest, most gleeful smile on his face while staring directly at Yoda
