Jack Casady: Still Flying at 80
If you know Jorma, you know Jack - Casady, that is.
The bassist, who’s been in musical conversation with Jorma - Kaukonen, that is - for more than 60 years, first as childhood chums, then in Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, turns 80 today, April 13, 2024.
Casady isn’t the typical rhythm player; he’s a story-telling bassist - a guy who solos on an instrument not always suited for soloing and always hits the mark.
His long career has also seen him co-piloting Jefferson Starship and Moonalice, among other groups. But it’s his ongoing partnership with Kaukonen, 83, that keeps Casady young and busy.
