Faculty approve motion to censure Board of Trustees
The following is an email that Professor of French Language and Literature and Chair of the Faculty Amy Reid shared to the New College community on May 22, announcing the faculty’s approved motion to censure the Board of Trustees (BOT), including the rationale behind it.
In my capacity as Chair of the New College Faculty, I am sharing the rationale for and text of a motion to censure that was…
hey im sorry, i know im pretty late to this one.. but uhh can u please do jenks for blorbo bingo?? i just watched huld's stream and my brain have been infatuated w contradiction
(Red = fully agree / yellow = partially)
I am always happy to natter about Jenks, I hope you had a fun time watching Huld's stream. He's an interesting protagonist, in a similar vain to Maya, he doesn't actually have much of a personality within the script - all of it is through demeanour. But, he is absolutely compensated for in that regards through R. Booth's performance; he's deeply erratic and strange, very forward and honest and you get the idea that this is a man mostly operating on his own whims to solve something and that the policeman veneer is tissue paper thin. Seems like a genuinely sound bloke for all his kleptomania and over-friendliness. I wish we saw a bit more in terms of writing, but you can't really knock him.
How do you think J Jenks rationalises Jasper and his never changing appearance? Considering his prior worked with Jasper years before Jenks did? How does Jenks sleep at night? What did Jasper do to make J Jenks so nervous/scared? (Other than using his gift?) Has Alice met J Jenks?
Great question! Jasper's relationship with Jenks intrigues me, so I'm glad you asked :-)
So first, I don't think there is a way for Jenks to rationalise Jasper's never changing appearance. By the time Breaking Dawn comes around, they've worked together for 15 years and his old partner worked with Jasper 20 years before that. So yes, I think Jenks is very aware of the fact that whatever Jasper is, it is not natural. However, I don't thinks he suspects him to be a vampire.
The twilight vampires are very different from your "traditional" vampire lore, so I think seing Jasper walk around in sunlight and not be phased by a cross (which Jenks definitely had in his office at some point) ruled vampire out. I headcanon that every once in a while, after having another transaction with Jasper, he spends a few sleepless nights on the internet, trying to figure out just how he remains the same. I like to imagine that by now, Jenks is waivering between God, Angel and Fairy.
I don't think Jasper had to do much other than using his gift to make Jenks so nervous. He comes around every 5-7 years, ordering new documents, paying cash, being so secretive about it that Jenks isn't even allowed to finish the papers; that alone should be enough to make Jenks nervous. Add Jasper's gift on top of that and Jenks is done for.
However, I do like to imagine that Jasper additionally used Alice's visions in the beginning too, just to be thorough. Like e.g. just before leaving, Jasper casually drops a "Oh, and you should try the chef's recommendation. That mushroom pasta is exquisit." Jenks is confused at first but discards it as the strange ramblings of a very odd man. Until he comes home, his girlfriend reveals that she's made reservations in an Italian restaurant and, upon arrival, there is a poster advertising the chef's famous mushroom pasta xD
As for my favourite subject: Alice. Jenks has definitely never met Alice. In Breaking Dawn, when Bella goes to meet him, he asks her if she's Jasper's wife after she introduced herself. From that I gather that Jenks not only has never met Alice but also didn't know 'Alice' to be the name of Jasper's wife either. He is, however, aware of some familial relationships (because he knows that Edward is Jasper's brother in the second conversation). Therefore, I headcanon that the overprotective fool gave Alice's name as his sister-in-law (he wouldn't choose sister because that would imply a close connection which would make Alice a person of high interest if Jenks or the police ever decided to come after him).
