“…so you’re progressing fantastically and I’m happy for you to continue your physical therapy at home…” the doctor nods and smiles “do you have any questions for me?”
You blush and clear your throat “uuh… I don’t quite know how to ask this… so I’m just going to say it.”
The doctor raises an eyebrow and nods and Jeremy shuffles a little in his wheelchair.
“We’ve been.. wanting to uuh… participate in certain couples activities? Obviously full sex is out of the question right now but.. are other less strenuous activities allowed?”
It takes the doctor a few seconds to realise what activities you were referring to, “Oh! Oh I see yes… yes I think full sexual intercourse would be too strenuous right now and could potentially cause more harm… but I don’t see why oral and such wouldn’t be okay as long as neither of you overdo anything.”
You nod and smile a little “thank you.. and yes nothing over the top.”
~~~
Jeremy relaxes back on the bed and sighs as you walk the therapist out the house “see you in a couple of days, I’ll make sure he does his homework.”
Closing the door you look around at the time and raise an eyebrow, you had another two and a half hours before Ava would be home with Granma from her day trip. Plenty of time.
Walking in you smile slyly at Jeremy on the bed “tired baby?”
“Mmm, a little..” he reaches for your hand, which you take ans crawl onto the bed.
“Too tired?” You kiss his hand.
“For wh- oh… oh..!” He smiles and perks up a little, shuffling to sit up more.
“I mean… unless you’re not in the mood of course, I know your physio takes it out of you.”
“Oh baby I’m always in the mood for you.” He carefully pulls you closer and wraps his arm around you, threading his fingers from his free hand into your hair and kissing you sweetly.
Shuffling a little on the bed for a better position you untie Jeremy’s sweatpants and loosen them, slipping your hand down inside the waistband and slowly working your hand over his growing cock while his head falls back against the bed head and a quiet moan escapes his throat.
Jeremy licks his lips and flexes his fingers against your back as you lean down onto your hand beside him. You wrap your hand around his length and jerk him steadily, twisting your hand and dancing your fingers over the head of his cock until Jeremy was a panting mess.
Moving up to a kneeling position you ease Jeremy’s sweats down to free him fully; he hisses in a breath as the cooler air hits his cock but gasps out a moan when your lips close around him instead. Starting slowly, you make sure to coat him in your saliva from base to tip until you’re drooling along his cock. Hollowing your cheeks out you suck hard and then take him deeper and deeper, breathing through your nose when he hits the back of your throat.
He pants and moans, his hand threading into your hair again and gripping lightly as your head bobs along his length, your hand jerking him as you pull away.
“Fuck…Fuck!” He pants and groans “don’t stop!”
“You gonna cum for me baby?” You flick your tongue over the head of his cock and playfully push back as Jeremy tries to guide you to suck him again.
“Please…” he whispers and looks down at you with pleading eyes. You happily take him in your mouth again and double down, sucking hard along his full length in pulses until his breathing hitches and you feel him explode down your throat with a loud moan.
You swallow around Jeremy and make sure not to waste a drop of him as he groans and grunts. Pulling away painfully slowly and wiping the corners of your mouth.
“Jesus shit!” He breathes and swallows thickly “fuck I’ve missed that!” He smiles and pulls you down to kiss him. “Your turn..”
Pulling away a little frown “but how..?”
“Ride my face babygirl.” He grins.
“You sure that’ll be okay?”
“Yeah I’m sure baby..” he nods and sinks down the bed, shuffling over more to the middle to give you better space. “Now get those jeans off…”
You chuckle and undo them, slipping them down your legs and kicking them to the floor for later “now what?” You kneel on the bed with your hands on your hips.
“Panties have to go too…” he slips his fingers into one side and pulls at them. “Get ‘em off.”
You nod and lay back lifting your legs up so Jeremy gets a good view of what was coming his way as you slip your panties off. He licks his lips and reaches for you only to find you just out of reach.
“And now how do you want me?” You tease.
“On my face…” he answers bluntly. “Get over here..”
You kneel up and crawl your way up the bed, straddling Jeremy’s shoulders and carefully making sure you weren’t going to crush him, squealing in surprise when he grabs your hips and pulls you down onto his mouth. Jeremy laps at your folds slowly and hums against your core, teasing you with slow flicks from the tip of his tongue.
Gripping the bed head you lift a little and rock your hips to Jeremy’s tongue, his hands moving over your ass and squeezing hard as he darts his tongue into you and teases.
“Baby please..” you whine and rock your hips again.
Jeremy closes his lips over you and sucks hard, his tongue dancing over and in you. His hands move up under your tee to find your breasts; his fingers tease your already hard nipples until they join the ache low in your belly.
You keep leant on the bed head and roll your hips to Jeremy’s mouth “fuck…” you gasp and moan roughly “I’m so close!”
Jeremy groans and laps at you quicker, sucking at your clit in pulses as his hands squeeze and massage your breasts.
You shiver and reach a hand down into Jeremy’s hair just as you let go and call out, cumming on his face and covering him with your juices. He laps slowly and sucks your clit through your orgasm making you tremble and whimper.
You carefully manoeuvre yourself to lay back, your leg over Jeremy’s torso leaving yourself splayed open for him.
“God damn what a view…” he licks his lips and watches your pussy twitch.
You blush and stroke his leg lightly “we should probably get re-dressed…”
“For now… I’m up for round two later…I have this great idea and it involves you lying just like this..”
“Sounds fun. I’ll hold you to that.”
“Please do..”
By the time we made it to his truck he was practically pulling me, rushing hand in hand, giggling like teenagers who just snuck out and are up to no good. He reaches deep into his pocket for the keys, fishing them out before pulling me into his chest.
"You ready to get out of here?" My words coming out with a hopeful urgency. My lips brush over his, inviting him in for another heated kiss. He declines the invitation, pressing a quick kiss to the side of my mouth before shoving my sweatshirt into my hands. I pull it over my head as he steps away from me a bit, drinking me in with his eyes.
"I was ready from the moment you butted into my game." Laughter rumbles from deep in his chest, but my mouth drops open in mock offense.
"Excuse me, I did no such-" He pushes me backwards, my back hitting the cold exterior of his truck sending a shiver through my spin as he pins me in place with his body. Fuck me.
"Don't deny it sweetheart, you did, but I'm glad you did. From the moment I saw that face of yours I was hooked, but then you bent over that table, ass on full display and it took everything in me not to grab you and take you right then and there." He pushes himself up against me and I can feel every cell in my body pull towards him. He places a finger under my chin, tilting my gaze upward with a gentle push of his finger. I grab fists full of his tee-shirt, crumpling the fabric in my palms, fingers tight, pulling him in for a kiss.
He grinds his hips against mine, attempting to receive some sort of friction for the erection currently blooming behind the prison of his jeans. This man is going to kill me and I am going to thank him for it as the life drains out of me, hopefully though repeated orgasms. He pulls away from me quickly, hand moving up from my chin to grip my face. He squeezed lightly, but the gesture causes a twist of arousal to run through my body, taking over every inch.
"Get your ass in the truck, I need to get you home." His voice is low, husky and full of lust.  I nod in agreement, a fierce smile adorning my face. I climb into the truck as he holds the heavy door open for me. He pats my ass gently as I pull myself up into the raised cabin.
The ride to Jeremy's flies by, probably because he's speeding the whole way while he kneads my thigh with his strong fingers, teasing me as he brings them higher and higher between my legs before working his way back down. I let my hands roam over every part of him that I could reach, reminding him to watch the road any time his focus seemed to drift. Focus, focus, focus.
He kills the headlights when we hit the driveway, putting the truck in park. He slides over on the bench seat before pulling me over his body. I straddle him, letting my weight drop fully onto his thighs. Jeremy roams his hands over my legs and the globes of my ass, kneading and planishing over my flesh, my jeans heating up under his touch.
I move to kiss him, but he stops me with a finger to my lips. "I gotta ask you something, before we go any further." His voice is breathy and sweet. I can still feel the slight bulge of his edifice beneath me. I try and push the thoughts of roaming hands and his warm lips from my mind as I pull my bottom lip between my teeth, nodding, urging him to continue. He returns his hand to my thigh, rubbing them as if he was trying to ease a sort of anxiety.
"What's up?" I take his face in my hands gently, running my thumb over his raspberry bruised lips. His chest expands against me as he draws in a deep breath, calculating his next words.
"I really don't want to ruin the mood, 'cause we got a good thing going here tonight, and though I really don't give a flying fuck, I've gotta ask you anyway. You know I'm older  than you, right? Probably a lot older." He questions, mumbling the last part, eyes darting around my features. He gestures between us awkwardly and I want to take is fidgeting hands in mine, so I do, finally letting myself break from lust and passion to tenderness. I can't help but let a titter of a laugh escape me, a smile branching across my lips. His face bleeds a punched bruise of a blush, bright and unadulterated in the low light of the truck cabin.
The windows have begun to fog over from the heat leaving our skin meeting the cold air of the night at the glass. The world has dissipated outside of this truck cabin, outside of this moment, our bodies pressed together with a sort of electric yearning. Jeremy's question still hangs in the air like a sheet on the line, my laughter like a fluttering wind. I can't let the question he's posed sneak into the depths of my psyche, out of fear that that I may end up questioning my actions even though everything in me is screaming for more- so I joke and I kid, and I play the parts of myself that feel like they know what they are doing, allowing any bit of apprehension fall into the swirling pit of my stomach to be drowned there.
"Do you really think I would be here if I cared about something like that?" I run my thumb over the zenith of his lips again, eyes scanning his reaction carefully. He doesn't seem phased either way, so I continue, "Would it help if I told you that just this past month I have had people guess my age anywhere from 16 to 30?" He grins a bit at the thought.
"I predate the fall of the Twin Towers. I remember when Britany and Justin wore matching denim  ensembles, and I remember waiting for music videos to premiere on MTV. Hell, you met me in a fucking bar, Jeremy." I lament. "I am an adult, and I have eyes, I know you are older than me, but I also know you are the sexiest man I have ever met and I knew what I was getting myself into the second you slid me to the end of my stool. I want to be here, with you. You still get to have your way with me tonight, that was the deal, remember?" I joke, bumping my nose into his.
Jeremy visibly relaxes at my words, his body becoming less tense beneath my hands, my own body relaxing from his ease. He grins at me, a slanted, wry smile that warms my entire fucking soul. "Did you really think I'd forget our deal?"
I shake my head at him, a smile across my lips to match his. "Of course not, but I'd be here without the deal, too." I joust, letting my hands roam up his body again. He chuckles lowly, bringing his hands up to cup my face. "So are we going to do this right here, or are you planning on taking me inside?" I grind down a bit into his lap, teasing him, clear that I have succeeded by the way he drags his next breath in through gritted teeth.
"As fun as it taking you right here would be," He tucks a stray piece of hair behind me ear with one calloused finger, "What I have planned for you is going to take a little more room. Up and out, Sweetheart." He pats the thickness of my body where my thigh meet ass, signaling for me to move.
"Yes, sir." I tease with a two finger salute, dismounting his lap before throwing open the door of his truck. I take the lead, hurrying up the long driveway, heading for the front door "Get up here, Pretty Boy, or I'm gonna have to leave you out of the fun!" I call behind me. When I reach the front door, I back into it pulling my sweatshirt over my head, watching Jeremy stalk up the driveway after me.
He operates somewhere between crass and intrigue, walking the tightrope of flirtation. From light caresses to calculated placements of his large hands. I am deadened to the world at his touch, the thought of his body on mine as he steps closer, closing me against the doorframe.
"You are going to be the death of me, if you keep that shit up." He points a finger at me, but I can see the smile threatening to break his stern gaze.
"Which part? The name calling or-" He catches my lips with his, interrupting my thought and replacing it with his tongue. These entanglements feel like the last embrace of the world itself. The feeling of my stomach floating in my chest leaving me breathless; the only saving grace being the bit of oxygen we have trapped between the parlance of our lips- and it is Godly.
Jeremy pushes open the door, holding my close with an arm wrapped securely around my lower back, palm pressing into me as his fingers stretch out to encapsulate as much of my body as he can reach.
"After you, Bub." He whispers sweetly, releasing me from his grasp. I turn around swiftly, entering the dark foyer of his home with careful steps. I toe off my boots letting them fall roughly to the floor, throwing my sweatshirt on top of them. I turn to see Jeremy doing the same, hand against the door for balance.
He takes my hand, pulling me through the dark house through rooms I cannot see. The whole space smells like firewood and incent cones, a warm mixture that spreads throughout my senses mixing with the alcohol that is fading away. We make it to the back of the house before Jeremy flips on the lights, illuminating a grand kitchen area.
"Sit, please." He motions to the stools at the bar top, I roll my eyes at him.
"So now you're going to be polite." I laugh at him, pulling myself up onto the bar top, not bothering to sit in one of the actual chairs. I can't bother to take in the details of the room around me, my attention fully fixated on the man in front of me and the way he leans back into the countertop. We stare at each other for a moment before he moves again.
"I am always polite." He corrects, digging through his refrigerator.
"That's the first time you have said 'please' tonight." He turns around to find me perched on top of the counter, leaning back on my elbows. "Not that I'm complaining, I guess."
I can feel my confidence wavering as I take in the change of scenery before me. We are no longer in the asylum of the bar. The situation I have found myself in both daunts and thrills me in equal measure. I try to ease the rapid beating of my heart, focusing on the cold countertop beneath me.
"Then why did you bring it up?" He walks over, holding a bottle of water out to me. I take it, cracking it open before taking a long drink of the cold liquid. He watches me carefully, drinking from his own bottle, waiting for me to answer.
"Uhh, nerves I guess, maybe?" I question myself, running my hand over my hair in attempt to redirect the nervous energy.
"You don't have to be nervous." He informs me, setting his bottle down on the edge of the island. "There's a reason I brought you here to the kitchen instead of taking you straight to the first flat surface I could find," A apprehensive laugh escapes my lips at his words. I let my eyes wander down his sturdy frame, the visual presence of his erection has disappeared and I fight my urge to frown.
"And what reason was that exactly?" I take another grounding sip of the cold water, feeling it run all the way down my throat, the cold spreading through my upper body with a breathless chill.
"Well, there's actually a couple'a reasons." He begins, inching towards me. "But most importantly is the fact that we have to have a conversation first." He stands in front of me, the digits of his left hand ghosting over my thigh carefully, testing the waters.
"First off, though I may be the one who's physically in control, you have the final say in absolutely everything we do tonight. Every touch, no matter how small you will be in control of. You say stop, I stop, simple as that." He deepens his touch into the thickness of my legs, both hands working at the muscle.
"Second," He continues, eyes locking with mine, "You are going to tell me exactly how you like to be touched. Though, I feel like I am already figuring it out."
I roll my eyes at him, the tension between us ebbing and flowing, all the anxiety fizzling out. He might say I am in control, but anything that leaves his lips that even comes close to a suggestion, an action, a command, it's done.
 "Finally, I want you to take a look around first." He runs a hand down my arm, sincerity in his voice.
"A look around?" I question, raising an eyebrow. "You want me to walk around your house?" I gape at him a bit, trying to figure out if he is serious. My lust clouded brain trying to work out all of the pieces that have been laid out in front of me.
"Just take a look," He holds a hand out to me, inviting me off of the counter. "You don't know me all that well, apparently, and I'd like to know I have your trust before we continue anything. I'd also like you to be sober, so you can make a fully informed decision."
"You're starting to sound like a guidance counselor" I joke, taking his hand. I slide off the countertop. He places a sweet kiss to my knuckles before letting go of my hand.
"Just go look around, would ya." He laughs, "I will be waiting for you right here. Can I make you anything while you're gone?"
"Surprise me." I wink, walking out of the kitchen back the way we first came through.
This has to be one of the oddest requests I have gotten from a man, looking around his house without him there to prompt me. I am being asked to snoop. Actually snoop. I only make it out of the room before turning back around and calling back to Jeremy.
"Why do you want me to do this? Do you really want me to snoop?"
"Just think of it as an unguided tour," He calls back. I walk back into the room, leaning myself up against the wall to look at him. Jeremy catches me out of the corner of his eye, sauntering over to me before taking my chin beneath his fingers. "Think of this as a practice in trust," His breathe ghosts over my face and I can't help but lean into the sturdiness of his touch. "Now, be good and go look around." He lets go of me and I can't help but let out a nervous sigh as I turn back around and head for the dark room in front of me.
I know I should be weirded out, or anxious, maybe, about looking around someone's house alone but I cannot seem to find any sort of nervousness. I have always enjoyed looking in at people's lives, people watching, taking in the vibes they give off. This is just the same, but instead of taking in Jeremy, I get to take in his home. I truly get to see how he lives his life without the filter that he would provide. This is trust, I remind myself, trying to keep my mind on track.
I run my hand on the wall, finding the light switch and flipping it on. The room is bathed in light, revealing a large living room, huge couches in the center facing a fireplace. The overall style looks like it was intended for comfort and tranquility, the grays ands sage green complementing each other nicely. I am overall unimpressed but I do as he says anyway- I wonder around the rest of the bottom floor, finding nothing out of the ordinary before climbing the grand staircase near the front door. There is a hallway going both left and right from the landing at the top of the stairs, a bathroom directly across from me. The walls of the hallway completely covered in photographs and artwork.
 I turn left first, peaking into the rooms. A couple of guest bedrooms, decorated just as beautifully as the rest of the home as been. Nothing overly exciting, so I don't wander in. Is that breaking the rules? I wonder, but not long enough to go back.
I get to the bedroom closest to the bathroom. It's painted in a dusty shade of pink, a twin trundle bed placed under the widow, the whole thing covered in a canopy. There are boxes of toys and books against one wall, photos and a lamp set up on the long dresser across from the bed.
I pad into the room carefully, over to the photo on the nightstand. In it, Jeremy holds a beautiful little girl, swinging her around. He looks absolutely full of love. I smile at the photograph, a ping of longing in my chest for a far off time in my life. Setting the photo down carefully I turn to exit the room. I close the door behind me, this new bit of knowledge about his life settling into me.
Jeremy has a daughter. A baby girl. He has a child.
I walk down the hallway, taking notice of the photos hung all over the gallery wall. There are photos of Jeremy and his daughter with other folks I do not recognize. They must be family. As I continue to look, I slowly begin to recognize some people in the photos.
In a small, dark, frame there is a photo of Jeremy with his arms wrapped around a breath taking redhead. Her hair is cut into a short bob and she is dressed clad in a unapologetically tight black body suit. I can't place her in my head, but she absolutely looks familiar.
The frame next to it shows Jeremy with a shorter, dark haired man, a man I would recognize anywhere. They are dressed casually, jeans and leather jackets.
"That's Robert Downey fucking Junior." I mumble to myself, letting my fingers brush over the frame carefully. "I wonder what he's been up to." I laugh to myself. I really need to watch more movies.
I look around at the photos again, hunting for more faces I may recognize. I glance through all of the memories on the wall, taking note of all of the beautiful people that Jeremy has surrounded  himself with, a tinge of worry running through my stomach. I push the thought out of my head, wandering down to the end of the hallway.
I open up the double doors to reveal  the most beautiful master bedroom. A four-post bed covered in expensive linens is centered on the back wall. There is a fireplace at the wall that faces the bed. A couple of dressers against the far wall, decorated almost like a hotel. The personal touches come out in the photographs and the reading nook that's built into the bay window. Bookshelves are set next to either side of the windows, packed full with books and mementoes.
I walk through the room, opening the closet, taking in the smell of his cologne that hangs in the air. The closet is separated into formal and work wear, more thought put into the organization the deeper I look. I let my fingers run over the lapel of an expensive looking suit jacket, the blue material would no doubt bring out the color of his eyes.
A chill runs through my body as I continue down the side of the closet. There are so many drawers I want to peak in, but I refrain. I pull a blue flannel shirt off of a hanger, pulling it over my body, pulling my hair out from underneath the collar. Once I am fully adjusted into the clothing, I take a look in the mirror. The slightly oversized shirt hiding my body, but it's warm and smells like Jeremy. My eyes draw up to my face, a wide smile across my lips.
I peak at the bathroom as I head back to the hallway. It has a giant walk in shower with multiple shower heads, almost like it is made for more than one person, but they are all pointed to the most central point of the shower. There is also a clawfoot tub and multiple sinks, everything in beautiful serene colors.  I take in one last sight of his bedroom, thinking about how nice it would feel to be wrapped up in the sheets of his bed before exiting the room and heading down the stairs. I take both flights, heading straight for the basement.
I wonder deep the basement, which is basically just a recording studio of some sort. It's full of instruments and recording equipment, all much too fancy and complicated for me to dare touch. I look at the wall above his piano, words painted in a beautiful script, "Tell me will the world one day ever be mine?" I read and reread the script before walking up to the piano, letting my fingers run across the cool material of the keys. I fight the urge to clink a couple of them, with absolutely zero knowledge of the piano I feel bad even touching the beautiful instrument.
I sit on the bench, the hand written music propped up on the ledge catching my eye. Everything is filled in with pencil, and I now more than ever wished I could read music. I let my eyes wonder around the room once more, the moody gray of the paint on the walls and the bright chrome of the equipment fill my brain with fantasies  of Jeremy.  I can see him being a completely different version of himself in this room.
 A pile of mail sits atop the closed piano, catching my eye as I stand from the bench. I know I shouldn't look at it, but I can't help but pick up the letter on the top of the pile. It's hand addressed and my eyes scan over his name carefully.
"Renner." I whisper to myself, seeing how to word feels on the tip of my tongue- it's sweet like syrup causing a smile to stick to my lips. I let my finger run over the ink, tracing his name out carefully before placing the letter back on top of the pile.
I wonder back upstairs slowly, letting my mind mull over the information I've collected. I didn't open drawers or any closets besides the one in the master bedroom, which aids in the lack of guilt I feel about the whole situation.
The smell of eggs and bacon hits me when I get to the entrance of the kitchen.
"Something smells good." I smile, walking up behind him, wrapping my arms around his middle.
"I figured since it's basically the morning." He gestures to the pan with a shrug.
I move away, taking my spot up on the bar top, watching as he plates the food for us. He hands me a plate with a small smile. I take it, shoving a whole piece of bacon in my mouth without a thought.
Jeremy erupts in laughter, taking a bite of the eggs on his plate.
"Is there something I can help you with, Mr. Renner?" I question, shoving another slice of bacon in my mouth. He just cocks an eyebrow at me. His eyes wander over me as if he is drinking me in, every last detail of the sight satiating a thirst for which there was no other cure.
"You're just too damn cute." He finally speaks, watching me shovel a forkful of eggs into my mouth. I smile my best closed lip smile at him, my eyes squinting at the corners. "So, did you see anything that caught your eye? Or did you just read my mail and steal my shirt? That's a federal offence you know. I could have you arrested for that."
"Which one?" I question, shoving more of the food into my mouth. "The reading of your mail or the stealing?" He erupts into a laugh again, a smile growing on my lips.
"Definitely the mail thing. I am pretty sure the stealing is a state issue." He points at me with the tines of his fork. I don't even bother to ask how he knows I got his name from his mail, it just seems to lack importance in this moment.
"To be fair, I didn't actually read the mail, just the envelope, and as for the shirt, well, I plead the fifth." I counter back before taking a sip of my water.
"You are still wearing the evidence." Jeremy is laughing full force through the sentences now, the corners of his eyes crinkling to make space for the joy of his smile. My hands find the soft fabric of his shirt that is wrapped around my body, a tingle of warmth spreading through my chest.
"You know what, you're right. So, if anything I say can and will be used against me in the court of law, maybe I should just start screaming your name now." I wink at him, still munching away on the bacon. His expression falters for a moment, the joy in his eyes morphing into a sort of awe before they darken. He sets his plate down on the island before leaning back against it, hands finding a home at either one of his sides. I set my plate down to mirror him, sitting up a bit straighter as if the motion would birth confidence to swim beneath my skin instead of the anxiety stained excitement that seems to be festering there instead.
"All in due time, beautiful, all in due time," His voice is no louder than a whisper, "Now, what did you think of the house? Find anything interesting?" I search over his features trying to read into his thoughts through the expression he wears. I think over the details of his home in my mind carefully, considering everything.
"How long have you lived here?" I counter back, leaning towards him. He doesn't falter at my words, remaining neutral.
"Not long, less than a year, why?" He questions, attempting to find the relevancy of the information.
"Your home feels pretty impersonal. Don't get me wrong, it is beautiful, but there was very little evidence to show that you actually live here and enjoy it. There is a handful of things that actually felt like a there was a soul within this place, but it's mostly just Architectural Digest up in here." I lay my thoughts out on the table for him to consider. His facial expression is neutral, leaning almost towards bitchy which causes a spark of anxiety to rocket through me, my chest catching ablaze like a match thrown into dry grass.
Jeremy pulls a deep breath into his lungs, his chest expanding, pulling his tee-shirt taught against the muscles of his broad chest. I bite at my lip, teeth digging into the tender flesh a bit too hard as I try and find a way to suck back in all of the words I just let fall out of my face. Then, Jeremy laughs, big and bold, to the point where he has to grip the countertop for stability.
I can feel my face contort into a strange expression as I watch the display before me. I open and close my mouth, words failing to muster. Jeremy finally looks up at me after a few moments as he wipes a few stray tears from his cheek with the back of his hand.
"You are such a breath of fresh air, you know that?" His words come out more as a statement than as a question. I give him a questioning look leaning towards him a bit more. "Is there anything you did like?"
I puff out my cheeks a bit, thinking over his question. It sorta feels like a genuine question disguised as a trap. I fight with myself over it for a moment before speaking.
"There was two things," I state, looking down at the floor. I feel that if I meet his gaze in this moment I may just cease to exist. I drum my fingers on my thigh, nervous energy looking for any way to escape me. "I liked the reading nook in your bedroom, and I like the wall scripture."
"Wall scripture?" He questions. I pull my eyes back up to meet his.
"Yeah, you know, the song lyrics. The one's you've got painted over your piano?" I explain, my hands gesturing as I speak. "I think you are a little bit obsessed with that one artist though. We should really expand your music taste."
"Can one really be obsessed with themselves?" Jeremy looks at me, cocking his head to the side. I just close my eyes, letting out a deep breathe in response to him. If he is going to keep this whole thing going, I might as well have a little fun with it. I turn my eyes up to meet his, a sweet expression falling over my features.
"I think that's called 'narcissism' Jer, you know, after Narcissus, the dude who fell in love with his own reflection." I slide off the counter, grabbing both of our used plates and place them into the sink. "He was so obsessed that he drowned himself, and flowers that bare his name began to grow where he once laid on the riverbank."
I try and take control of the situation by pulling his attention, in both story and stance. I readjust the way my hair falls over my shoulders before pulling at the fabric of his shirt, pulling it a bit tighter around my body. My lower lip finds confines between my teeth as I smirk at him.
"This is all very sexy, I must admit," Jeremey speaks as I turn back to face him. "I like you in my clothes," He gestures up and down the length of my body with a curved finger a shallow attempt at distracting me. I step closer to him, less than an arms length away now, letting my heart lead before my head.
"You want to know the kicker of it all?" I ask, slowly inching towards him. He nods at me. "The bulbs of the Narcissus plant are poisonous, ever cementing the idea that loving oneself too much will in fact kill you."
He reaches out, hand ghosting its way up my arm before it comes to a stop on the side of my face. He carefully tucks a piece of hair behind my ear before cupping my cheek, running his thumb over my lips.
"If you keep looking at me like that, it might kill me before anything else can." He lets his other hand make home of my hip, his fingertips pressing into it.
"That's Medusa," I whisper, leaning towards him. I lift my chin up, looking at him deep in the eyes. A smile cracks across his lips. I ghost my lips across his, a light pinprick blush waxing across my skin.
"I thought she was cursed." He rubs the side of my face gently and I can't help but lean into his touch.
"Some say it was a curse, others say it was a gift. After she was raped, she was given the power to turn a man to stone with a single look," Jeremy looks at me tentatively, "I think it was a gift of protection, now no man could ever harm her again." My words are a whisper now, my eyes closed.
"It must be lonely, to live a life like that," Jeremy's hushed tone warms my body, the skin beneath his hands burning at his touch.
"It is," Is all I manage to say before I lean my head back a bit more before pressing my lips to his. He slots his lips between my own, sucking on my bottom lip gently. I can still feel the marks I left in it earlier as he runs the tip of his tongue across the divots of my flesh, soothing the skin. He pulls away, brushing his nose against my own.
"Which story is your favorite?" He asks, breathe ghosting over me.
"I have two," I mumble, letting my hands grip onto the fabric of his shirt.
"Of course you do," He chuckles lightly, "Why don't you let me take you upstairs and you can tell me all about them." I nod, a small smile creeping its way onto my face. He pulls me behind him, up the stairs and down to his bedroom. He turns on the fireplace with the flick of a switch and I watch as it roars to life. Jeremy closes the door behind us, grabbing my wrist as I try and walk further into the room. He cages me against the doorframe, forearms pressed against the door on the sides of my shoulders. I grab ahold of his belt by the buckle, pulling him into me, chest to chest.
"Your glow would make Icarus blush," I bring a hand up to trace my fingers over Jeremy's jawline, the slight stubble on his chin rough against my knuckles. He furrows his brow at my comment, a look of confusion falling over his features.
"Icarus; his's one of my favorite stories," I sough, letting my fingers run through his short hair. Jeremy takes my waist in his hands, pressing delicately into my frame. He dips his head, lips connecting to the plain of my neck. He presses sodden kisses to the heat of my skin.
"Tell. Me. More," He punctuates each word with the entreat of his lips.
"Icarus and his father, Daedalus were being punished for helping a man escape the labyrinth," Jeremy's hands run over the expanses of my body, leaving trails of goosebumps in their wake. "But Daedalus was an architect, and he built wings for Icarus and himself so that they could fly away from their imprisonment."
Jeremy hums, lips latching themselves to a tender spot in my neck just below my jaw bone. He sucks gently on the pulse point making a small whimper fall from my lips.
"When they went to fly, Daedalus warned his son that the heavy waters of the ocean would weigh him down, so he had to fly high enough as not to have the dampness of the ocean air pull him down to the waves. He also couldn't fly too high or the wax holding his wings together would melt, causing him to fall to the depths of the ocean." My words come out breathy and strained as Jeremy continues to taste the bare skin of my neck. He brings his hands down to my belt, pulling the leather strap back, the buckle opening with a metallic clink.
"In my favorite retelling," I dig my hands under the hem of his shirt, nails skimming over the sensitive skin of his hipbones. "Icarus flies too close to the sun, just to bask in the warmth, and as the wax melts and he begins his quick decent towards the churning ocean below, he bellows a laugh of pure joy."
Jeremy pulls away from me, pulling my belt from the loops of my jeans, letting it fall from his hands onto the floor.
"He laughs?" He questions, looking into my eyes with childlike curiosity. I run my hands up, lifting his shirt to expose his midriff. The taught muscles flex lightly beneath my touch.
"He laughs." I nod, sinking my hands further into his sides, raking my fingers down slowly.
Jeremy pulls me from the door, turning us around as he guides me backwards. We step slowly, in tune with each other. We continue moving, light touches and lustful looks exchanged between us. I back into the side of his bed and Jeremy's hands find my hips, lifting me up onto the tall mattress before slotting himself between my knees again. I feel a sort of power flow through my veins when he stands here with me like this; almost like he has approached an alter to pray, to worship, and I am on the receiving end- God Bless.
 He reaches up to grab the back of the collar of his shirt before swiftly pulling it over his head. He discards the fabric on the floor and my self control goes with it. I let my eyes wander over his body as I pull my bottom lip into my mouth. I rake my teeth over my lip carefully, taking in each curve and dip of his body. His happy trail draws my eyes from the defined muscles of his stomach down to the low hanging waistband of his jeans.
"Why Icarus?" He questions, his fingers buried into the curls at the nape of my neck. I lean my head back against the pressure of his fingertips, wading in the pleasure of their presence. He tilts my head backwards with a taught pull at my hair, my jaw going agape as I stare up through my lashes into his foreboding eyes.
"Because I too have destroyed myself for a moment of pure bliss," I pull Jeremy down to my level by the neck, letting our lips brush together, teasing the rough nature of our grasps with honey like softness. "And I laughed the whole time."
We share sickly sweet smiles, eyes half lidded and full of lust. There is a buzz of electricity between us, ebbing and flowing, boxing us in then drowning us. I run my hands up his stomach, watching as his head dips back. A languish breathe shudders through his body, his attempt to conceal it fails as a groan escapes from the prison of his throat. His grip on my hair loosens, his hands running down my shoulders with little pressure.
I slide the Jeremy's stolen shirt from my frame, holding it out and letting it fall unceremoniously to the floor. Jeremy's hands dip beneath the waistband of my jeans, rooting around for the hem of my tucked in shirt. He pulls it over my head carefully, the fabric grazing over my skin. The cool air of the room causes a shiver to run through my spine, goosebumps spreading themselves over my skin; Jeremy's fingertips read them like brail. "I want you, I want you, I want you," they read, over and over again. The callouses of his hands leaving pinprick notions of where his hands once rested. The more his hands roam over me, the more the words change from 'I want' to 'I need'  and ,my growing need for him is the one thing I have been sure about in a long time.
I pull at the button on Jeremy's jeans, the fabric opening as I pull the button through. The zipper slips down easily with a gentle tug, the teeth parting to reveal a pair of dark boxers beneath. The jeans sit wide on Jeremy's hips now, slackened. He gather's my hair that hangs loosely around my shoulders, pulling it back, holding it with a relaxed grip at the nape of my neck.
The confidence that travels through my veins prompts me as I push his hip backwards, guiding him to take a step back. I slip down to my knees in front of him, libertine and intrepid. He takes in my movements, eyes heavy but focused as I settle at his feet. I look up to meet his eyes, my hands clutching his waistband as I wait for his go ahead, thumbs rubbing into the fabric. We sit like this for a few moments, the beat of my heart tracking the time as his lust sunk gaze washes over every inch of my body. I know by the end of this encounter the only thing that will be left of me will be cherry-sour soaked daydreams and the feeling of the weight of him on my tongue- I am impatient.
"Jer?" I murmur, pulling lightly on his jeans. His erection grows, pulsing, untouched beneath the fabric of his boxers. His eyes meet mine and he takes my chin between this finger and thumb, tilting my head back further. If looks could kill this one would surely have left me lifeless.
"You look," Jeremy licks at his lips, his chest heaving slightly, "Ethereal, down on your knees like that for me," His hands frame my skull, one hand under my chin while the other continues to hold back my hair. He tests his grip through my locks with a few pulses of his wrist, pulling and twisting from the root, earning a well sounding moan from me. I look up at him through the thickness of my eyelashes, his figure slightly obscured. "Keep going, Angel, let me see how pretty you are while you swallow me."
He lets go of my chin, allowing me to look as I pull his jeans down around the bulk of his thighs, letting them pool around his knees. I reach back up to his pull his boxers down, exposing him to me. His penis stand erect, tip facing upwards towards his stomach. I tease the vein on the underside with a brush of my thumb before wrapping my hand around the girth towards the base, tilting the head down to meet my lips. I am sure there is some sort of metaphor for the way I touch him, or the way his body reactions under my touch but the only thing I can seem to conjure up is the bloom of pride that takes over my chest as he moans. I lick a wide stripe over the head as I watch Jeremy's reaction. He wraps his free hand through my hair, holding my head steady, or maybe he is holding himself steady with the way he presses the pads of his fingertips into my skin.
I lean forward a bit, taking the first inch of him into my mouth, swirling my tongue around him. He lets out a sweltering moan, pulling tighter on my hair with the twisting of his wrist. I pump him gently, sinking more of his length into my mouth as I go, tantalizingly slow but steady in my motion.
I sink down till my lips meet my hand, now only a fist length away from completely devouring him. I squeeze my hand, hollowing out my cheeks as I pull back, earning another wonton moan from Jeremy. His head as fallen back now, eyes screwed shut as pleasure fills his body. He tries to push his hips forward a bit to hurry my movements, but I pull back a bit causing him to groan. I begin to slip his member in and out of my mouth as I pump his length with my hand. With each motion I can feel him pulse beneath me, unraveling at my touch.
 Maybe this is what Icarus felt like, too close to the sun, burning wax dripping marred trails into his skin, smoldering, the sky smelling like sulfur, sex, and charred flesh.
I would burn from the inside out to feel this alive again.
"Oh my god," He utters above me as I pull my hand away, allowing him to fully push his length between my lips and down to the back of my throat. I fight a bit, trying to keep from gagging as I pull back with hollowed cheeks before repeating the movement all of again, again, again. Jeremy's strong hands pull on my hair, pulling me back away from him body, the head of his dick escaping my mouth with a pop. He stands above me, staring down, wrestling a strangled breathe from his lungs. His hands are still homed in the tangles of my curls, the tendrils wrapped around his digits like roots.
"Is everything okay?" I question after a few beats, my hands finding purchase on his calves.  I wrestle with the uneasy feeling that has begun to flood my stomach, worry slowly leaking in, level rising and taking over my chest cavity. I keep my touch light, almost tender, treading awkwardly into an unknown feeling. Jeremy just looks at me for another second, the anxiety moving from swimming to storming in my stomach. Then a lummox of a laugh escapes him as he drops to his knees in front of me.
"Everything is absolutely okay," He pulls me against his chest, cupping my cheek with one hand while the other traces a line down my spine. "I just plan on making this last, and that sinful mouth of yours has other ideas." I let out a ragged breathe trying to banish all of the negative feelings from my body, draining the queasiness and self doubt with it. He rubs my cheek gently with his thumb, the light touches completely juxtaposing the firmness of his erection against my stomach. "Shall we continue?"
I nod, the corners of my mouth twitching up into a small smile. "Yes, please."
He runs his hand around my back, taking the closure of my bra between his skilled fingers, popping it open with a flick of the wrist. The straps loosen around my shoulders and he pulls them off carefully, fingertips barely touching my skin. The fabric falls away to reveal the horizontal barbells that pierce my nipples, the stones glittering brightly in the sizzling glow of the firelight.
I shouldn't be surprised be the experience Jeremy seems to operate with, but the way he is able to set the lightest fingerprints into my skin and still make my head spin has me at a loss for words. Hell, I am at a loss for everything under is touch, but I can't find it in me to care.
Jeremy's eyes lock on the jewelry in my nipples, examining the bars carefully. He lets his fingertips just ghost over the fullness of my breast, the other hand coming up to grip my ribs to steady my body. He runs his thumb over the peak of my nipple before barely pressing the jewel of the bar, watching it pull at the skin of my nipple carefully. The tingling feeling of the pull of the jewelry draws a small gasp from my lips.
"Just when I decide you can't get any better, you surprise me with something like this," Jeremy praises, running his thumb over my erect nipple again. My arousal is pooling in my panties, each touch, each tease, drawing a new sense of longing out of me.
The eros coursing through my body leaves me huffing graveled breathes, my mind trying to focus but the only thing it manages to find are the intense arousal between my thighs, sitting dense in my core; and the way his fingers feather over my skin, and it's a kindness.
Jeremy leans in close to my ear, "Why don't we get you out of those jeans, huh?" He runs his tongue over the pierced shell of my ear as his hands dip to unfasten my jeans. Each button he pulls open causes a jolt of electricity to run through my veins, anticipation burning low in my stomach. He pushes up on my hips a bit, signaling for me to stand. Once I get to my feet he pulls my jeans off of me in one swift movement before letting them fall into the ever growing pile on the floor.
He stands in front me of, pulling his jeans and boxers from his body. He pulls on the elastic of my panties, humming contently to himself. He takes my hips again as he kneels before me, spinning me around towards the mattress. My hands find the soft fabric of the sheets as Jeremy begins to leave a trail of elysian kisses up the back of my thigh.
If I could see myself composed the way his hands make me feel, blazing and poisonous and beautiful, they would have to name a flower after me too, the soft ripples of the bedsheets calling to me like an open spring calls to the parched.
"Your ass looks phenomenal in these, Bub," Jeremy traces the lace trim of my soddened panties with the tip of his nose before nibbling the fullness of my ass cheek, sinking his teeth into the flesh. He runs his hand up my spine, pushing me chest first onto the mattress. He guides my feet apart before slotting his knee between them. "Tell me something, Angel," He continues to pepper kisses over my backside before trailing up to my lower back with the tip of his tongue.
"Yes, Jeremy?" I ask, breathless. He stirs up feelings in my body I have only read about. The service between us morphing into a deep, stocked fire, crackling burning embers into the air. He slips his fingers beneath the elastic, tugging the fabric down my body. I step out of them and he throws them to the side. Fingertips trail up the inside of my leg as he slots his knee back between my feet.
"Are you going to be good for me?" His voice is liquid sugar pooling in my stomach.
"Yes," I manage, words catching in my throat has his fingertips pass the crest of my knee and continue north. "Yes, Sir, I am."
"Good," He clears his throat a bit, "Now get up on the bed for me, Bub,"
I step forward before crawling up into the bed, swaying my hips to tease him. He keeps his eyes trained on me from the floor as I turn around, spreading my legs wide, displaying myself just for him. He rolls his eyes back, head dipping with it as if the weight of his lust hangs from his neck, pulling him backwards. He falls deeper into the floor, sinking and unbothered by it; his eyeline keeps drifting back to me, lazily moving over the curves of my body and I swear I can feel the trial they leave. I look at him, contemplation, no, struggle written lightly into his features as he continues to weave his gaze around my figure.
 "Jer?" I try, my stance faltering in confidence at his lack of movement. I begin to fold in on myself, closing my legs slowly as I bring my hands up to cover my upper half.
"No, no, no," He stops me, his words barely a whisper as he steps up to me, hands resting on my knees. A mixtures of confusion, self consciousness and the lust mix into a noxious mixture, clouding my senses. "I'm sorry for staring, you're just so," He rubs my skin carefully, rough fingertips scraping over my sensitive skin. "You're so, everything. I can't get over how beautiful you are. I just can't stop looking. Are you okay if we keep going?" I voice a hushed but enthusiastic 'yes' as his words wash over me, my muscles further relaxing beneath his touch as I fall back onto the mattress. I let him open my legs again, allowing him to lean into my body.
"I'm not going to lie to you, it's been a while, so I don't know how long this is going to last," He lets out an anxious chuckle as he runs a hand through his hair.  A small laugh escapes me before I can even think. I crave him like the moon craves the waves, his eyes like riptides, unrelenting but untouching, unsatisfying.
"Jer, it's been a long damn time for me too, and if you don't get to it, I may simply pass away right here from anticipation alone." With that, he hooks his left arm around my leg, pulling me up by the knee so I am pressed against him.
"We can't have that, now can we?" He winks, punctuating a grind. Star bursts of ecstasy crawls under my skin throughout my whole body as he grazes against my clit, pulling a moan from my lips. He positions himself tactfully before pushing in and praises leave his lips as the tip of his cock begins to stretch me out with a pleasurable sting.
"God, you look perfect just like this, you're doing so good for me, Angel," He praises, pushing further into me as he speaks. He keeps me at the edge of the bed just like this, bottomed out, unmoving as he warms his cock inside of me. I squirm a bit, begging for any sort of movement. "Fucking gorgeous." He moves to my clit, brushing over it as he rocks his hips with a barely there movement. I can't help but clench around him at the motion, the pleasure from his thumb thrumming through me.
"Please, Jer, I am begging you. Fuck me, I need you to fuck me, please." A low groan leaves his lips at my words as he bites at his lip. Jeremy begins to pull his length out before pushing back in, setting up a blissful pace as he finally begins to fuck me. I moan as the movements, feeling every thrust building to an orgasm.
In this moment everything shifts- what was once all anticipation and actualization has formed into a hunger, unrelenting and messy. I was never meant to be clean, poised or assured. The sheer figment of my soul has always yearned to be unmade- being under his hands was nothing but benediction.
He leans over me, pushing my knees closer to my head which allows him to push himself deeper into my folds as he sucks a strawberry bruised mark into my collarbone, spit stained and sore to the touch. As he pulls away from me, he pulls out, grabbing ahold of my legs and thrusting them to the side. He positions me so I am laying partially on my side, easing off of my back, allowing me to look him in his eyes as he thrusts back into me, angled deeper. My closed legs making everything feel tighter, each drag of his cock bringing me closer and closer.
I don't know if my strangled groans or Jeremy's breathe covered curses come first but he fuck me harder and I am thankful.
"Just like that," I manage, breathe strangled in my throat, "I'm so close, keep going, fuck yes, just like that," Jeremy doesn't falter until I spasm around him, his thrusts going uneven and ragged.
"I am so close, beautiful, so close." I push him back at his words, a shocked look striking over his features before I move to throw myself at his feet.  His confusion melts as I take his cock into my mouth again, pumping him with my hand as I swirl my tongue around his tip.
Icarus was right to have flown, to have tasted the rays of sunlight with his own tongue, but I doubt they would've tasted as ambrosian as this.
He comes with a gruff moan, spilling himself down my throat. I pump him through his orgasm, taking every drop of him before I finally release my grasp. He gasps over me and I swallow.
"Holy fuck." Are the only two words he can manage as he looks down at me. He sways a little as the aftershocks of his orgasm rock through his body and I pull him down to the floor with me, taking his lips with mine. He wraps his hands into my hair; mine wandering freely over the expanses of his figure.
When he finally pulls back, we share sickly sweet smiles, not from lust but from pure, self indulgent exhaustion. We take each other in, just like this, sweat sticky and cum sweet, our bodies fitting together like the closure of a locket, storing this memory between us. A memento.
"I have a possible moment ruining question," I finally speak, my head resting in the crook of his neck as he plays with my hair. My knees are sore from the hard floor beneath me, satiny static beginning to move through my legs as the loss of feeling takes over.
"What is it?" He tenses a bit under me but doesn't falter.
"Why the fuck is there a photo of you and Robert Downey Jr. hanging in your hallway?" I ask, not bothering to move to meet his eyes. He rumbles beneath me, beginning low before morphing into a full belly laugh. When I pull back, Jeremy is trying to catch his breath, wiping a tear from his eye. "What's so funny?" I question, quirking an eyebrow. My words just send him into another fit of laughter.
"So you know who he is?" He retorts, words bumbling over his laughter.
"Of course I do!" I exclaim, and the look on Jeremy's face is priceless.
"God, you are so totally oblivious to a whole part of his career aren't you?" He asks, more to the room than to me specifically. "What's the last movie of his you saw?"
I think over his question, trying to recall anything recent. "I think it was Zodiac, you know, with Mark Ruffalo?"
"Oh for fucks sake." He runs a hand down his face, his harsh words bathed in humor.
"What is it this time?!" I shove his shoulder playfully.
"That movie came out in like, 2007? 2008 maybe?" He informs me. He takes my face gently in his hands, "And what I am about to tell you is one hundred precent true, okay?" I nod beneath his grasp. "Robert, Mark, and I have made three movies together since 2012, and like a bunch of other movies with the same group of people." He rambles, staring straight into my eyes as if he is trying to pass all of his knowledge through his gaze. I grin a bit, my cheeks squished between his hands.
"I thought you said you made music." I note, feeling a bit of apprehension tangle in my chest.
"I do." He chuckles, dropping his hands from my face to grab my hands in his. "But we made the goddamn Avengers! Earth's mightiest heroes!"
"I am so happy for you?" My words come out as a question, my eyebrows furrowing.
"Holy fuck, have you not seen a single one of the Marvel movies?" His question is mock serious but overflowing with intrigue.
"I think I saw one with Tobey Maguire?" I tell him with a shrug.
"That is only kind of right." He laughs. "You really have gotta see more movies, Jesus Christ." He pushes himself from the floor before reaching down to help me to my feet. I stumble a bit, the bee sting sensation rousing throughout my legs. "Get in bed, we will talk about your lack of movie knowledge more tomorrow."
I can't help but laugh as I bury myself beneath the cool sheets of his bed, my body aching but glad to be off of the hard floor. Jeremy slips in beside me before pulling my body flush against his body, wrapping me in a warm embrace.
The events of the night wash over me in a haze, salt soaked and pleading. The grief that has held me prisoner over the past few months now nothing more than a slight itch in my chest. I don't think of it now, in this moment, wrapped up in Jeremy's strong arms. My body now thoroughly worked over and satiated thrums with a new feeling, more love than loss, more present than absent; chosen.
Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be, healing that is, maybe not all at once, but sudden. The drowning feeling easing into a floating, a surviving that finally breaks through into actually living. It's moments like these that make me feel alive, just the way I am supposed to. Not bound by what is no longer here or the waiting for something to exist, there just is- truly present and unbothered by the notion of inexistence.
"Goodnight beautiful," He whispers, pressing a gentle kiss to my lips.
"Goodnight, Pretty Boy." I sigh, exhaustion clouding over my senses, buzzing quietly beneath my skin.
He is asleep in mere moments as my mind stumbles back to my other favorite tale, Orpheus and Euridice. When Euridice was lost to the underworld, Orpheus risked everything to find her, the power of his music guiding him. Their only way to escape the underworld was to leave together, her behind him. He must never turn around to be sure she was still there, otherwise they'd be lost to each other forever. The music, his music, guided her, even if she didn't know him by face or by form.
Her soul knew him- and that was enough.
Live For Now
Pairing: Jeremy Renner x Reader
Summary: December 2016 Y/N moves to a small house near Lake Tahoe with her 5-year-old daughter. She is for a new beginning and a place to make new memories. She never expected to find love, especially not in her 16 years older neighbor. A friendship forms and love blossoms and Y/N decides to live for now.
Tumblr media
A/N: This series will not be written in order. Everything will be placed in order on the masterlist. It will be long-running and snapshots of Y/N and Jeremy's growing relationship. Most of them can be read as stand-alone just like my LLL series. I still hope you’ll choose to read them all.
Disclaimer: I am completely ignoring covid was a thing telling you this, cause frankly working in the healthcare system I am sick of dealing with it still ;)
I am keeping it fairly close to Jeremy's life but moving dates of movies might occur, plus keeping it mostly set in Reno, not LA just for ease of the flow of the story. I also don't know him so it will be my take on who he is.
Status: Coming Soon
Request by: @kiyomi-uchiha777
*not my gif*
Summary: Who knew everything could go wrong when you decided to take one nap and leave your co-stars to fend for themselves?
A/N: This was fun to write
Please don’t plagiarize my work, you may reblog if you like but I’m asking that you don’t steal my hard work
Tumblr media
“Should we call her?” Mark asked in a quiet voice, glancing around nervously at his co-stars as he awaited an answer.
“Are you crazy?” Robert hissed, “We can’t call her! She’s gonna think we’re idiots!”
“You kind of are though.” Scarlett pointed out unhelpfully.
“Uh uh uh,” Downey turned to her, narrowing his eyes and pointing a finger at her, “You’re just as much at fault here as the rest of us are.”
“I just followed you guys, I have no idea what’s going on.” Evans looked exhausted as he threw his hands into the air.
“This city is wonderful!” The other Chris chimed in, looking around in awe, as if oblivious to the others bickering, “Y/n is so lucky to be from here!”
Jeremy looked around and nodded in agreement, “This place is nice.”
You and your avengers co-stars were all in Germany, your home country, on a press tour, and the six of them had gone out for a stroll whilst you were taking a nap in the hotel, only to wind up lost within the first twenty minutes.
“So why don’t we call her?” The actor for Bruce Banner stressed, “We’re lost and she knows this place like the back of her hand! She even said so herself!”
“It’s humiliating!” Robert cried dramatically.
Scarlet rolled her eyes, “I’ll take being humiliated over being lost down this random alleyway anyday.” She quipped back.
The actor dropped his head with a long sigh, and Evans clapped him on the back, “I think you should be the one to call her. You know, since you feel so strongly about the issue.” He had a spark of mischief in his eyes.
Robert groaned, slowly taking out his phone and clicking onto your contact, holding his breath as he listened to it ring.
Six rings in, it was cut off and your voice floated through the speaker, “Hello?”
“N/n, hey,” Downey chuckled awkwardly, pausing. One sharp look from Scarlett, though, had him scurrying to continue, “Listen… we may or may not have… gotten lost?”
There was a silence following his statement/ question, before you sighed loudly, “How did you idiots manage to get lost? It’s really not that hard. It’s quite simple.”
“Yeah, yeah, I know.” He grumbled, giving a dirty look to his snickering co-stars.
You finally allowed yourself to chuckle a little bit at the predicament before you relented and said, “Alright, fine. Send me your location and I’ll come get you all.”
When he did just that, another long silence stretched out.
“… You guys know you’re only a street away from the hotel, right?”
The volume on Roberts phone was apparently loud enough for all of them to hear, because all six of them facepalmed in sync.
How the Marvel men treat you on Valentines Day
pairings Clint Barton x reader warnings none, teeth rotting fluff, implied smut
masterlist
Tumblr media
You haven’t heard of Clint in a couple of days, thinking he is on a mission. You are upset and you miss horribly. So, it was a big surprise for you to find one of his arrows stuck in the doorframe of your apartment. Attached to it is a little letter, which you open. There’s not much information on it, except for “Come to my place. Pack for the night. Love you, Clint” You smirk at his words and do just as he told you and an hour later your car pulls into his driveway. The front door creaks as you open it a bit with your key, immediately catching Clints attention. He comes around the corner and greets you with a warm smile and a soft hug. “I’ve missed you” he whispers into your hair, still holding you close. “That much that you needed to make a hole into my door?” you chuckle, which makes him chuckle as well. “It’s Valentines Day” he shrugs while pulling you with him into the living room. There’s a fire crackling in the fireplace and Clint set up a little picnic in front of it. He smiles warmly as he sees your reaction and makes you sit down next to him on the blanket on the floor. The light is dimmed, only a few candles are lit, and the fire itself. This romantic evening is exactly what you two needed after being apart for so long due to his mission. And you spent the whole evening, and night, chatting, kissing, cuddling, and snacking, and maybe even a bit more in front of the soft crackles of the fire, keeping you warm.
Love interest | Hailee Steinfeld
Tumblr media
Pairing: Hailee Steinfeld x Reader
Request: Hailee Steinfeld x reader: Reader is in a Marvel movie and plays Kate's love interest and while they're on a break, and whenever Jeremy and Florence catch the two doing a couple thing, they poke fun both for that.
A/N: This is my first ever Hailee fic, I hope you like it!
masterlist | requests: open | taglist | words: 1050
You're on set filming for Hawkeye. You play a character that they're introducing to the show as a love interest for Kate, meaning you spend most of your shooting days with Hailee and quickly grew close with the woman. You had met her a few times before being cast on Hawkeye together, same as with Florence and Jeremy, but never more than a quick hello at a premier.
The whole process of Hawkeye had been an amazing experience for you. When you auditioned for the love interest part, Hailee had already been cast as Kate. So, you were brought in for a chemistry read with her. It was clear to the casting director even before the two of you even started reading lines, that this was a great combination. Of course, you still had to read the lines, but that just made it even more clear that they had found the perfect combination.
You've become great friends with your castmates, it was really a fun team. You had gotten especially close with Hailee and Florence, since you were all around the same age. So, it was no surprise to Florence and Jeremy that when they came back from filming their scene they found you and Hailee hanging out together. However, Florence noticed there was something different about it this time, the two of you were sitting very close together. Florence raised her eyebrow to Jeremy who just shrugged his shoulders. Florence took that as a sign to drop it. For now, at least. They joined you for lunch until you and Hailee were called to the main stage for your next scene.
When you were done with, yet another scene Hailee went back to your trailer with you and stayed to hang out. It was nice not being in your trailer all alone, you definitely hadn't gotten used to that part of being in the acting business.
In your trailer you grabbed the both of you a drink before joining Hailee on the couch. "You did amazing in that scene, Hails." You complimented her as you handed her the drink. She clinked it against yours and said, "You were pretty amazing yourself, babe." You blushed at the nickname and tried to hide your face by looking the other way. Luckily Hailee didn't notice, or at least she pretended that she didn't.
You turn on the TV and continue watching the show you had started together during your breaks. Not soon after you pressed play the two of you were sitting right next to each other again, knees and shoulders touching. It gave you butterflies in your stomach instantly, but you loved it.
Halfway through the episode a scary scene came on you hid your face in Hailee's neck, she reacted with a small chuckle and placed her arm protectively around your shoulder. "Don't worry, I'll protect you." You stayed in the comfort of her hold. Your head laying on her shoulder and her arm hanging comfortably around you.
You were too comfortable to get up when you heard a knock on your door, so you loudly spoke, "Come in." With that the door opened and Florence and Jeremy walked in. Florence noticed the way the two of you were sitting. With a big smile on her face she said to Jeremy, "See, I told you something was going on with those two." This time Jeremy agreed, "Okay okay, you're right.” Then he turned to you, “But love birds, we've got a group scene in 10. So, let's put a hold on the cuddling and get to work, shall we?" He might have some seniority over you, but you all know he was messing with you just as much as Florence was.
Florence and Jeremy leave your trailer with a blushing Hailee and you behind them. Their jokes don't stop you from reaching out for Hailee her hand though. Once they touch Hailee smiles and intertwines her fingers with yours. You walk the rest of the way with the biggest smile on your face.
When you're done filming for the day Hailee walks up to you. "Hey, do you maybe want to go out and get some dinner with me?" She looks a bit nervous before she adds, "Like as a date." Your smile grows even bigger. "I would love to go on a date with you!"
"Yay, I'm so excited." Hailee says as she moves closer to give you a hug. "How about I pick you up from your trailer in about 30 minutes? That way we both have time to take a quick shower and change into our own clothes." You agree with the time and you both head your separate ways.
Exactly half an hour later Hailee knocks on your trailer door. "Hi, are you all ready to go?" You nod and step out of the trailer, "I am." You say taking the hand she reaches out to you.
You have an amazing time at dinner, so much so that you both don't want the night to end yet and end up walking along the river for another hour. Around 10pm Hailee said you should probably get back since you both had an early call-in tomorrow. So, you started walking back to her car.
She drove you back to your rental apartment and even walked you to the door. You thought it was adorable. "So... what are your thoughts on kissing on the first date?" Hailee asks, her eyes glued to yours. As a way of answering her question you lean in, she notices what you're doing and closes the distance. It was a short but sweet kiss, which left you both smiling.
"I'll see you tomorrow, y/n. Goodnight!" Hailee says taking a small step back. "Goodnight Hailee, I had a lot of fun tonight." After saying she did too, Hailee started walking to her car. "Wait Hails, my car is still at the studio!" You call after her.
She turns around, "Oh yeah, I totally forgot. How about I pick you up at 7? I'll bring coffee and breakfast burrito's." She says to convince you. "That sounds good. I'll see you tomorrow bright and early then, goodnight Hails." And with that you walk into the apartment and lay down in your bed thinking back of the day.
In Love
Summary: Clint Barton x Fe!Reader ~ Turns out, you’ve been keeping a massive secret from Clint despite being his friend and co-worker for the last six years.
Disclaimer: violence, swearing (I think), pining, life-or-death situations, kiss to keep cover, fluff, hand holding, angst, blood, torture, Clint does not have kids or a wife or has ever, 16+ themes (Criminal Minds kinda thing). MDNI - This is your warning - If you read on, you have agreed to read 16+ themes.
Tumblr media
The moment you came home your first day in the field, you knew what was to come.
You never fell in love. Never even fell into ‘like’. But the moment you met him…it was game over. Your future self laughed at your younger self.
“I’m never gonna fall in love.” you would say. “I’m never gonna like a boy like that. I’m not going to want someone to come home to. I want my own space. I don’t want anyone by my side. I don’t need anyone but my dogs. They can keep me company when I’m old and grey.”
God, you wished you could be like that again. Despite knowing none of it would be true, you wished you still had those ideologies. That you would never fall in love. That you would never date or marry or want children and turn out to be a Sports Mom with a minivan filled with gear, orange slices and cases of water you got on sale from Costco.
But the moment you saw him…that ideology died. In fact, it burst into a ball of flames.
You had never had that feeling before. That kind of feeling that sent a tornado through your stomach, blood pumping around your body as if you’d just fought for your life in a cross country race and your heart doing somersaults against your lungs that knocked the air out of them.
But the moment you saw him…you had to scold yourself.
And you scolded yourself over and over and over and over again, for years.
Agent Clint Barton was first and foremost your teammate. You could only trust one another to the extent that the other did. Same with the rest of your team.
Without trust, there would be no foundation for anything.
And he trusted you. That much was clear.
Afterwards, you, Clint and the rest of your team became friends and before long, you were a unit. A family.
Each and every one of you knew the other like the back of your hands, except…Clint felt like he was missing something with you.
He knew you were keeping something from him. And sometimes it felt like the rest of the team were trying to keep your secret, too.
Though, you knew that the rest of the team didn’t know for certain about your feelings towards Clint. They knew you but when it came to your love life, you were the only one none of them could figure out. Your cards were kept firmly against your chest.
One evening, Willa (one of your teammates) spotted you in a small cafe getting a drink with a guy and when she saw you Monday morning, she instantly asked you about him. The whole team was there. Were you about to reveal that you have a secret boyfriend this whole time? Perhaps he was your husband and you had 4 kids and secretly owned a private school in Nebraska?
But, no.
“He was just a guy and we had a good time but I don’t think I’m gonna see him again.”
“Why not?” Clint asked you.
“Because the day after I saw him in the park with his girlfriend and their dog.”
“Ooh,”
“I’m sorry, honey.” Willa frowned.
“It’s okay.”
For the next couple of months, you went on more dates. Some were set up by Willa and Jerry (another teammate) and the rest by online sites. And, some were more successful than others but in the end, none of them gave you that feeling that you had when you first met Clint. That kind of feeling, the moment you dropped your bag and closed your front door had you nodding your head and accepting, “Yep, this is it.” as you realised, somehow, miraculously, you’d managed to have a loving crush on someone. But it wouldn’t matter, because he is your teammate.
And, after two years of trying to get rid of your feelings for him, or at least, trying to accept them and move on with your life, Clint sent your heart spirally and fell even harder when yourself, Willa, Jerry, Una and Clint were all sent on a mission together.
It was an extraction.
The host of the gala was a multi-millionaire and would be auctioning off his prized possessions in a secret auction. The gala was simply a front. After all, why would more than three dozen highly wealthy people all come to the same country for “a holiday”.
His prized possessions included a hard-drive that opened the buyer to a world of information surrounding offshore accounts that were used to help free-lance agents that still had ties to any and all government organisations.
Shield included.
Only, after the initial smooth sailing, things took a turn.
“It’s not here.”
From the other side of the bar, your eyes met with Clint’s and you spoke into your drink as you lifted it to your lips. “What do you mean it’s not there?”
“I mean it’s not here.” Jerry told you down comms. “The harddrive. It’s not in this room.”
“Then where could it- oh no.”
“Oh no? What oh no?” Clint asked.
Willa turned her back to the column. “It’s in his jacket.”
“What do you mean it’s in his jacket?”
“Ten O’clock.”
Low and behold, there the host stood, the silver USB stick in his hand, smiling as he waved it around three other potential buyers.
One of them went to touch it and the host pocketed it before he could, smiling before removing his jacket and handing it to his butler beside him who folded it up and began to walk away with it.
“Where’s he taking it?”
Willa lip-read what she could from the conversation.
“His bedroom.”
“His bedroom is heavily guarded.”
“You don’t say.”
“Guys, what are we going to do? We need that hard drive.” Jerry’s voice rang through.
“Someone needs to get his attention.” Willa replied.
“How?” you asked.
“I have an idea.”
Moments later, Clint was by your side.
“What are you-”
“Just trust me. You can punch me later.”
You placed your hand in Clint’s as he led you to the dance floor and suddenly you were very aware of your own skin. It was an odd feeling.
“Just do what I do. But backwards. And in heels.”
“Thanks, Fred. What exactly is your plan here?”
Clint’s eyes met yours. “He looks in your direction every 45 seconds. I’m going to give him an excuse to make his move.”
You yelped in shock as Clint pulled you flush against him, his hand flexing on your lower back.
“Just trust me?”
You caught the sincere look in his eyes and all you could do was nod.
It worked.
Just as Clint was moving you around the dance floor, your mind going elsewhere, there came a tap onto Clint’s shoulder.
“May I cut in?”
“Of course.”
Clint pressed a kiss to your cheek, quickly whispering in your ear. “Flirt. You look beautiful, by the way.”
You smiled and nodded as he walked away, letting your hands slip from his and into the host’s. And, after flirting for the length of a song, feeling his hands go lower down your back, your own hands stopping him, he finally walked you up the stairs and towards his bedroom.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got eyes on you.” Clint spoke down comms.
You looked over your shoulder as you climbed the grand staircase with the host’s hand at your back, and you saw Clint to the left of the dance floor, watching you carefully.
Once you found yourself with the host, alone, in his bedroom and the guards told to clear away and take their break for an hour or so, you made quick work in knocking him out, finding the jacket and removing the hard drive.
Only, once you left and met Clint outside the bedroom door, a new to duty guard came around the corner.
“Just follow me.” Clint took your hand in his as he pocketed the hard drive into his jacket.
You only got half-way walking down the hall when the guard, who had peaked in on the host, came back out and shouted for you both to stop.
Of course, you didn’t.
You both ran instead.
Then an alarm was pulled and every guard the host paid seemed to be after you and Clint.
“What are you going to do?” Willa asked as Clint pressed something into her hand as he ran past her and out of the door.
“We’ll meet you back at the safe house.” Clint told Willa. “Just take the hard drive and get it to Jerry. Una, tell me you’ve got the van ready.”
“Ready. I’ll meet Willa and Jerry at the extraction point.”
“Good.”
And for the next ten minutes, you and Clint were running through the streets and back alleyways of the town, running in separate directions for a while before bumping into each other down a side-ally.
Footsteps were coming closer and the sound of bullets were flying through the air.
“They don’t know what they’re aiming at.”
“But they’ll find us soon.”
“If we run out now, they’ll shoot at us.”
“So what do we do?”
“I don’t know.” you looked at him, breathless, before looking back down the alley.
Then it hit Clint.
“I have an idea but I need you to trust me. Like, really trust me.”
“Jesus Christ, Barton. Just get on with it.” you finally called out as he tried to prevent the inevitability of his plan - despite you not knowing what it was.
The footsteps were drawing closer and for a moment they stopped, a light flashed down the alleyway and voice talked before the running continued.
But none of that registered in the moment because your brain was short-circuiting since Clint’s bright idea was to kiss you.
His hands came to your face and he could feel your hands on his arms, ready to push him off and probably punch him. But you didn’t. And, rather than the kiss being stiff and awkward…it was unlike any other.
One of his hands still remained by the side of your face when the light shone down the path but his other came down your body, sending goosebumps in their wake, before he pulled you against him and he stepped closer pressing you between him and the wall.
Your own hands travelled up to his neck and pulled him closer but once the footsteps died away, the kiss slowly came to an end leaving you both breathless against one another.
“I think it worked.”
Clint nodded, swallowing hard, as he looked at you.
How had he never noticed the reflection of the stars in your eyes before?
“I think it did. Are you gonna punch me now?”
Clint watched as you paused for a moment.
“Not right now. But if they come back, I might.”
“We better go?”
You nodded. “We better go.”
You had to push yourself along because you knew, if you didn’t, you’d kiss him again and he’d simply kissed you to avoid getting caught, right? There would be no dire consequences after that kiss.
But all Clint could do was scold himself as you both made your way back to the safe house. How had he never noticed the stars in your eyes before? Or how, in the morning, the rays of the sun shone back just as bright? He also scolded himself from allowing himself to emotionally indulge in the kiss he shared with you. You are his teammate. And he knew himself.
He couldn’t let his heart get involved, or else there would be dire consequences.
Initially, things felt…awkward. But, after four years, it was just an old memory, right? And, yeah, sure, the memory would be revisited from time to time whether independently or shared…kinda. Mostly, this was when the team would have drinks one night and would be talking about love lives and first kisses and worst kisses.
“Alright, alright, alright. I’ll give you that one.” Una said, swirling her bottle of beer. “But kissing to avoid something, that can't work, can it?”
“It can.”
Your mouth spoke the words before your brain could stop you.
“And how would you know?”
You caught Clint’s smirk as he looked down to his beer.
“I just do.”
“Oh, really?”
“Come on, tell us!” Willa cried.
You shook your head with a suppressed laugh. “I’ve said too much.”
“No, come on!”
“Maybe some other time.”
“No fair.”
“Okay,” you smiled. “You tell us about what happened with Derek and your ‘worldly knowledge’ and I’ll tell you my story.”
Willa narrowed her eyes at you, playfully. “You play a clever game.”
You just sat back and smiled.
But despite all of this, four years on, neither you or Clint had seemingly changed. But he still felt like you were hiding something from him.
Except, he’d find out soon enough. And not in a way either of you hoped he would.
This time, you’d been called in on your day off.
“What’s going on?”
Clint turned around from the monitor and was at first taken aback from your clothing. Usually, you wore black pants and a black t-shirt to work or a work shirt or, if the situation called for it, sand coloured cargo trousers and a breathable t-shirt. Though, that was usually when having to attend a military base outside of cooler weather.
Instead, you wore a cosy jumper and dungarees that had paint splatter all over them, including your white pumps and small freckles of pain on the baby hairs that had escaped their cover of the hair bandanna.
Clint also spotted the remnants of nail polish in your cuticles and light paint on the side of your hands.
“We’ve just got- have you been decorating?”
You looked over yourself. “Oh, yeah. Felt like a change. Anyway, what’s going on?”
“We’ve just got wind of a hostage situation. We can’t make verbal contact with the abductor but they did send this out.”
It was a note.
And it was through that note that led you and Clint making an extraction which was initially successful until you did a final sweep afterwards only to be knocked out when you spotted a door had been left ajar and the lights turned off.
Clint, after not hearing your reply, came in after you.
And that was how you both ended up waking up inside some beat down old home that had probably been designed in the 40s.
His voice was hazy, but you heard Clint call your name. You also tried your best to take in a breath but was only met with a damp stench and the feeling of your lungs crushing you into shock.
“Take it easy, he hit you pretty hard.”
After a few minutes, you finally gained some normality in your lungs but the sting was still there.
“What happened?”
“After he went all sleeper agent on you, I came in and found you unconscious. I was trying to wake you when he stuck something in my neck.”
“I see you got the peaceful option.”
“Funny.”
“Where the hell are we?” you asked, trying your best to look around.
“I don’t know. I haven’t heard any cars so I’m gonna take a guess and say we’re in the middle of nowhere.”
“Well, that narrows it down.”
“Did you see who took us?”
“No.”
“Would you like to?”
You and Clint snapped your heads to the open space in front of you both.
Out from the shadows appeared the guy who you had seen just before his gun came across your head and your body hit the ground.
The man walked from one side of the room, to the other, screwing in the light-bulbs beneath the lampshades causing both you and Clint to squint at the brightness. You’d both been submerged in darkness for quite some time.
“My name is Jack. I know, how original. It was actually my mother’s father’s name. Named after my grandfather, grand ol’ Jack. Lived till he was 92. Always said the best way to survive was to always tell the truth. That lies weighed on the soul. And to have a small shot of whiskey before going to bed. Said that was good for the heart since it quietened the mind.”
“Really touching story,” you cut him off. “But why are we here?”
“Don’t you get it?”
You and Clint looked at one another. Had you both missed a part of this conversation?
“I tried to save those people in the warehouse.” Jack told both of you as he straddled a chair. “People in this world need saving from themselves. People are dying younger than they ever did. And it’s because of all the lies. The lies they keep from their parents, and their children and themselves. It’s all crushing their soul. And I knew…” Jack smiled, wagging his finger. “I knew the moment I saw you down there that yours was being crushed the most.”
“Saw me?”
Jack stood from his chair. “I was in the corner office, on the top floor. It has an excellent view. Whoever has that office next will love it. The accents on the wall, ah magnificent.” Jack kissed his fingers before continuing. “But it gave me a good scope. I understand not everyone will…agree with my methods, per say.”
“No, because you took people hostage.” Clint pointed out.
“I was trying to save them! And I was finally getting through to them until those SWAT guys pulled out my team.”
“Again, because you had taken them hostage. And now you’ve taken us hostage.”
“This world needs saving!” Jack yelled. “It needs saving from the lies people tell and the secrets they all hide.”
“Alright!” you yelled out before calming your voice. “Alright. So…the world needs saving? Jack, do you really think you’re saving it…by killing people? The hold-up down on 9th? That was you, right? Those people you let go-”
“They let their souls free. They told the truth.”
“So, if we-” you looked at Clint before turning back to Jack. “If we tell you the truth, will you let us go?”
“Yes.”
For a moment, the feeling in the room got lighter. Maybe there was a way out after all.
“But you’ll only lie. No, you…your secrets are too big to just give up freely. You…you’re a take em’ to the grave kinda gal. So, no. I won’t let you go. Not until I know that it’s the truth.”
“How will you know?”
Clint regretted asking the question.
“Because she’ll be begging to tell me. You both will.”
Neither of you knew how much time had passed but the spots from the light were getting duller and bigger.
“No, no. You can not sleep yet. You haven’t freed your soul.”
“Why do we have to free our souls?” you asked, the taste of blood coming to your mouth. “What if I don’t want to be saved? You said it yourself. I’d rather take mine to the grave.”
“Oh, but you don’t. Not really.”
Jack had been circling you and Clint for a while, as if he were a hunter, teasing you - waiting for you to beg to be killed.
“No, I can see it in your eyes. The eyes never lie.”
Jack levelled himself though he wasn’t close enough to knock out. His hands gripped your thighs as he hummed, annoyance clear in his expression as he tried to figure out your secret.
“Perhaps you killed someone? No, that isn’t it. Maybe you ran away? Have a secret family? No, that’s not it either. The eyes never lie to me. What is it? What are you not telling me? What are you not telling yourself?”
Clint called your name and Jack saw the slightest change in you. So slight, in fact, even you didn’t feel it.
“It’s him. It had something to do with your team. No, teammate. It’s him and just him.”
Jack pushed against your thighs so he could stand up straight. Quickly, he made his way over to Clint and circled him.
“What is it? What is it about you, huh? What has her secret got to do with you? Let's see if we can find out.”
You heard the snap of a switchblade as it opened and the fight for Jack to steady Clint but before he could make the first cut or slice, you cried out.
“Stop! He doesn’t know! He- he doesn’t know. Please…just…just don’t hurt him. Please.”
Jack looked over to you and Clint’s name escaped your lips, both in pleading and question.
“Oh…oh, this runs so much deeper than just a secret.”
You lowered your head for a moment. The pounding in your heart was only made harder by your own silent cries telling you to not say anything else. But there was a chance you’d both die, so why not tell him? Right? Maybe it would save your lives? Or would it only give Jack more ammunition to use?
 “Doesn’t it?”
“Please…don’t.”
Jack knelt in front of you and gently touched your cheek before moving his hand down and grasping under your jaw, forcing your head up.
“Tell me. Let me free your soul.”
Tears rolled down your cheeks, your heart crushing your lungs inside your chest.
“If you don’t tell me, I will only hurt him more. And you don’t want to hurt him. Tell me. Help me save both of you. Tell me. No, tell him.”
Jack moved your head, forcing you to look at Clint with tear stained cheeks.
“I’m sorry, Clint. I’m so sorry.”
Your name came from Clint’s voice, barely above a whisper.
“You can admit it,” Jack said your name. “You committed the most heinous act an agent such as yourself can do, didn’t you? You created a danger, not only for him, but yourself.”
Clint said your name again, trying to move his hands only to find them still shackled to his chair.
“You fell in love.”
You took in a breath, the beating feeling in your chest, turning into a stabbing feeling against your lungs. Your head remained down as you squoze your eyes shut, more tears escaping from your lids, down your lashes and onto your lap.
“Please…”
You didn’t even know if Jack could hear you, but you pleaded with him anyway.
“We need to hear you say it.”
You remained silent but then-
“Say it!”
Jack’s hand came to your face and pushed you to look at him.
“Say it! Say it!”
You continued to plead with him until he pushed you back further and you screamed out.
“I fell in love! I fell in love! Please! Stop! No! Please! I-I fell in love! I fell in love with him! Please! I-I fell in love with him. I’m in love with him!”
Jack stopped and waited a moment before pulling you back so all four legs of the chair were on the ground and he finally removed his hand from your face.
“And there it is.”
He was smiling. The look and sound of fear in your body had pushed him further but the defeated look on your face…that couldn’t be bought. That had to be created, by his hands.
Clint looked between Jack and you and he didn’t know what to be more worried about. What Jack could possibly do to you next, or the fact that even he knew you were telling the truth to Jack.
You were in love with him.
But he didn’t have long to sit and think about it because flashing lights suddenly came from behind the thick fabric that covered the broken windows, blocking out the light of the day and night.
“No! No!” Jack shouted. “I still need to save them!”
It all happened so quickly, Clint barely caught the fact that Willa had rushed inside, Una arresting Jack and detaining him. Willa rushed over to Clint as Jerry came over to you.
“How did you find us?” Clint asked Willa as Jerry came behind you and picked the locks of your handcuffs.
“Are you okay?”
Jerry knew it was a stupid question, even when you didn’t answer him.
“A dog walker called it in. Said they could hear someone yelling as if they were in pain. He also knew no one has lived in this house since 1982.”
As Willa picked Clint’s handcuffs, Jerry had managed to get you out of yours and without looking back, you darted for the door.
“Wait, wait,” Una called after you. “We need to wait for the medics.”
“Can you take me to the hospital?”
Una looked you over. She could see the clear look in your eyes. You didn’t want to stay here for another second.
“Don’t you want to wait for Clin-”
“Now?”
Una nodded, radioing into Willa who was standing behind Clint, letting Jerry finish unpicking the locks.
“Sure, I’ll call ahead.”
“Thank you, Willa.”
Hoping into the passenger seat, you shut the door as Una climbed into the driver’s seat and took off down the road and to the local hospital.
“What happened in there?” Una asked you as she flicked her eyes from the road to you and back again.
“I don’t wanna talk about it.”
Even with your hand shaking, you pushed your fingers across your face to try and wipe away the tears.
By the time you arrived at the hospital, you were taken to a separate room where Una stayed in the waiting room, filling out your forms. Your hands were too shaky to even hold a pen and you could just about remember your own name.
The doctor ran multiple tests and pushed the small cuts together with closure slips.
“You’re all good but I’d like you to remain here for a couple hours, just in case there’s any change.”
You nodded and quietly thanked the doctor as she left.
There were patches of dirt on your hands, as well as blood and old tears where they washed away the stains.
After an hour, Una came in only to leave a few minutes later since she was called back to base to interrogate Jack. And, as she left, you slowly lowered yourself down on the hospital bed and, despite the noise in your head, you fell asleep.
A few hours later, a nurse came in and woke up.
“You can go home now, honey. We’re gonna need this bed.”
“Oh, I’m sorry.” you tried to get up quickly but the nurse only laid a hand on your shoulder.
“It’s okay, honey. Take your time. I read your chart, you took quite the hit. Your friend is waiting for you in the waiting room to take you home.”
You nodded, swinging your legs over the side.
“Here. Take these for the headache.”
“Thank you.”
“No worries, honey.”
By the time you had grabbed your jacket and started walking down the hallway, you stalled when you saw who the nurse was talking about.
If you had the energy, you probably would have run in the opposite direction. But you didn’t. You were tired and if the nurse hadn’t woken you, you probably would have slept for the next 24 hours.
“Una was gonna come but I fought her for it.” Clint tried to smile but he could see your’s was just forced.
“Look, what happened-”
“Clint, please…I– I don’t want to talk about it. I just want to go home.”
“Okay.”
The drive back was silent and awkward and by the time he pulled up, you looked at him for as long as you could stomach (which wasn’t long) before opening up the door and thanking him.
And, the moment you pushed your key inside your door, you thought you were safe. That everything was finished for the day and you could deal with it tomorrow.
But Clint got out of the car and called your name.
“Wait!”
He took the porch steps two at a time and when he finally reached you, you forced yourself to look at him.
“I need to say something.”
“You don’t have to say anything, Clint.”
“But I want to.”
“Please…I’d…I just want to forget what happened today. Please…I can’t do it again.”
“I know you’re scared and watching what he was doing to you…I was scared, too. I am. I am scared.”
“Clint,” you could see the look in his eyes and you shook your head. “No. Don’t. Don’t say anything you’re gonna regret.”
“The only thing I regret is not telling you earlier.” Clint told you. “Then maybe none of this would have happened.”
“Clint-”
“I-”
“Please.”
Your hand flew to his chest and he stopped talking. “Please. Whatever you’re about to say…please wait. Wait for the right time.”
Finally, you looked at him and his hands came to the top of your arms, stroking downwards before holding you close.
“Please…just wait.”
“Okay.”
That was all he said before kissing your head and saying it again.
“Okay. I’ll wait.”
By the time you woke up in the morning, your mind had stilled and before it could get loud again, you started painting again. All of your furniture was covered and two out of the 6 walls you had planned to paint had been cleaned, stripped, sanded, coated and painted.
And, just as you started on the third, a knock came to your door.
“I just want to help.” Clint told you. “And, let’s be honest, last time you tried decorating this place on your own, you nearly knocked yourself out with paint cleaner.”
You, for the first time in the last 48 hours, smiled.
“You can take the kitchen. There should be some new cupboards to keep you company.”
“You’re finally changing them?” Clint asked, entering the kitchen, his tool belt around his hips.
“I am. Picked them out last week.”
“Thank god.” he said. “I hated the last ones.”
“Same.”
The rest of the day ran smoothly enough, despite what the last couple of days had revealed. Clint informed you that you and him both had the next two weeks off before either of you could go back into the field. He also helped fix the kitchen cabinets to the wall as well as install your new oven. You could have done it on your own, but having someone else there made it easier. Clint also helped you move around the heavier furniture and, when fixing the wiring to the lightbulb, he held the ladder steady under you so you wouldn’t fall.
And for the following two days, neither of you mentioned anything about what happened with Jack. It was like nothing had ever happened in the first place.
Until Clint decided he couldn’t wait anymore.
It was easier, before the kiss, to shut off his feelings for you; that worry, that concern, that joy that exceeded more than just the smile of friendship. But after, they became much more clear. He saw the stars in your eyes and the light in your smile. He was more than just amazed at your talents of being an agent. Of course, those who joined Shield all had similar talents, but there was just something more about you. More to be figured out, more to learn, more to be desired and most of all, more to be loved.
He couldn’t wait any longer.
Sure, he’d been called stubborn before but now he was impatient. He’d let time slip by for six years and in that time there had been moments where he wanted to call out from the top of buildings that his feelings for you were more than that of a friend, of a teammate. But he couldn’t.
There was always a mission or a job to be done or a date that got in the way. And now, there had been a raging lunatic that, if Willa and the rest of the team hadn’t landed when they did, could have killed you. He’d set your soul free, you’d been able to tell your secret. What was to stop him from not letting the rest of you go? What was stopping him from shooting you where you sat or using your life against his?
Nothing.
Because Clint couldn’t free himself. He couldn’t free himself from his chair or the shackles that kept him there. No matter how many times he called out your name or shouted for Jack to stop, he couldn’t free himself. He couldn’t get there. He couldn’t stop Jack from doing whatever he wanted to the women he fell in love with all those years ago.
But he could do something now.
So, as you stood beside him in the kitchen measuring out a plank of wood to fit on the wall above your stove, Clint looked at you and finally told you what he’d been wanting to tell you for years and what he was about to tell you two days ago before you begged him to wait, you not fully knowing whether he was going to reject you or tell you that he loved you.
“I’m in love with you.”
Whatever you had been saying about the plank of wood and how you needed to get some more sandpaper from Home Depot quickly came to a stop as you stumbled over your words and looked at him.
“What?”
“I’m in love with you.” Clint repeated.
“No, Clint. Don’t-”
“I’m not just saying it because of what happened.” Clint assured you. “I should have told you years ago but I kept making excuses. But, after what happened, I don’t want to be able to find an excuse. I nearly lost you because I didn’t tell you sooner. I’m not losing you again. I’m in love with you.”
You were stunned to say the least.
“I know, two days ago, you told me to wait. I was going to tell you when I got to the hospital but they told me you’d just fallen asleep. And then you told me to wait when I dropped you off and maybe I should, but I don’t want to. I don’t want to miss a chance to tell you again.”
Again, you were stunned into silence.
“I’m in love with you.”
“I’m dizzy.”
That was all you could say. All the information and realisation of every action made in the last six years all hit you at once.
Swiftly, Clint pulled out one of the bar stools and you sat down holding your head.
“You’re in love with me?”
“I’m in love with you.” Clint repeated.
“You’re in love…with me? Me? The woman sat in front of you? Me?”
“Yes. I am in love with you.”
“Have you inhaled paint cleaner?”
Clint chuckled and pulled out a chair himself, sitting with his knees locked into yours before he took your hands in his.
He stated your full name, “I am in love with you. And have been for the last six years.” Clint also stated your birthdate, star sign, address and badge number. “Does that clear it up?”
Your heart was beating in your chest so fast you thought it might actually explode.
“Clint, I…I need to know you’re not just saying this because of what happened.”
Clint gave a small nod. “I have an idea but I’m gonna need you to trust me. Like, really trust me.”
You nodded and a moment later, Clint’s hands had moved from yours to your face, cupping your cheeks before pulling you in for a kiss.
It was gentle and loving and unlike any other kiss you had experienced before. Other guys had taken what they wanted, forced the kind of kiss they wanted out of you. But not Clint.
Somehow, he conveyed every emotion he could into the kiss and you couldn’t help but feel your mind wander back to your first kiss, down the side alleyway. That felt real. You had to convince yourself it was fake but this, and that, was real.
It was all real.
For a moment, you felt Clint smile into the kiss as your hands gripped at the collar of his checked shirt to pull him closer. A smile which you returned.
“I’m in love with you.”
“I’m in love with you, too.”
Clint smiled and kissed you again, and again, and again.
Despite everything that had happened, and everything that you had previously thought, you had come to realise that maybe it wasn’t so bad to learn to love and accept love in return. And in the years that passed, despite the dangers the job put you both in, it was nice to come home and be greeted with a familiar face and a warm embrace and to have a family you could both call your own.
Cuddles [Jeremy Renner Imagine - fluff]
A/N: I think we all deserve some fluff, I’m not the best with fluff but we’ll see where this goes. I’m gonnabe drawing on some personal feelings I’ve had recently so please check the warnings. As always I’m sorry about the layout editing.
Plot: reader is in an established relationship with Jeremy Renner and has had a rough time, they just need some cuddles and reassurance.
Pairing: Female! Reader X Jeremy Renner
Warnings: talk of mental health issues (suicidal ideations, self harm, self destruction etc - it MAY get heavy but I’ll try and keep everything as simple and not too in depth as possible). Angsty at points but I promise there is good fluff!!!
The day had passed at a snail’s pace; just like every other day before it for the last two months. You’d taken whatever jobs you could get after being let go from your career position of six years. The jobs sucked and the people sucked more but you needed the cash.
When it had all started, your boyfriend had promised you’d never need or want for anything and that he’d take care of you. You’d ended up in a shouting match, sobbing that you needed your independence and your own income. He had agreed completely and said he never meant it as a long term comment; it was just so you didn’t have to rush into taking whatever. He’d held you as you cried about all the what ifs running through your head and had whispered sweet everythings to help you calm.
The first three weeks had been, admittedly, blissful. You’d had time to yourself to do all the little things you wanted; take up forgotten hobbies and meet up with friends for a catch up. It took that first week for you to realise that your career had stolen time from you and maybe this was a good thing.
By the second week you had been lonely and craved daily human contact. Your boyfriend had been between the music studio and press appointments for the second series of a programme he was starring in. You’d never had an issue with his work and could usually deal with it well. But that was when you were out daily and doing your job and taking your mind off of everything.
Jeremy would still call you daily and you’d see each other every weekend as planned but your mind was playing tricks on you and making you believe you were worthless because you weren’t working. You weren’t earning your money; it was just being given to you like your boyfriend was your sugar daddy. ‘You’re not doing anything to deserve this!’ Your mind told you over and over. ‘You’re worthless because nobody wants to employ you.’ ‘You’re dispensable.’
You spent a solid week applying for whatever job you were capable of doing and had then ended up hopping from job to job for three months until you had been placed in a warehouse by an agency. Your first two days had been all your training, the rest was on the job and you quickly learned that the moment you clocked in on day three, you were never “off the clock” and even your toilet breaks were timed.
Jeremy had sat and listened to all the things you were learning and was happy you were feeling more yourself, even if it did mean you were physically and emotionally exhausted after your fourteen hour shifts, six days a week.
Your sex life had dwindled but Jeremy had insisted it was absolutely fine and he wasn’t going anywhere; he was happy to cuddle up and hold you. Soon your six day weeks turned into seven and you hadn’t seen Jeremy now for over a month. Your mental health was taking a high dive and you were still falling. The calls and texts were everything you held on to just to keep you feeling a little more sane. You were still with the work agency and you pleaded to be placed anywhere else as long as it wasn’t in a warehouse you even told them you’d take a pay cut as long as it got you out; but there was nothing else available and if you left the job the agency would dismiss you from their services too.
You didn’t want to admit defeat. You were strong and capable and you wanted - no, you needed - to make your own money but you wanted at least a little life back to yourself. You debated on pulling a couple of sick days but reading up on your contract you were reminded that could end in dismissal unless you could get a doctors note.
It was Thursday and your alarm was beeping incessantly at you; it had been for the last half an hour. The frantic beeping was just another reminder that the only good thing in your life was a boyfriend you hadn’t seen in nearly six weeks, a boyfriend you were sure would find someone else soon. Why wouldn’t he? You never had time for him and when you did talk all you did was fall asleep on FaceTime. He said he didn’t mind but was it just words? You could say you were a heart surgeon but it didn’t make it true.
The alarm stepped up it’s beeping and your fist landed heavy on it; the room fell into silence and you lay staring at your ceiling wondering how much longer you could do this. How much longer could you go on with this monotonous bullshit? Was the money really worth it? It barely covered your bills and Jeremy was still buying most of your groceries for you. Fleeting thoughts crossed your mind about what would happen if you just stopped existing? Would you really be missed? Your job would just replace you with another desperate drone and Jeremy would be sad but he’d move on.
Your phone ringing brought you back to your current reality. The screen showed a picture of your boyfriend smiling back at you; a picture you had taken on your first date. It reminded you of the fairground you had wandered around together eating candy floss and playing stupid games at the stalls.
You answered just before it rang off and you couldn’t hide your exhaustion from your quiet “hello.” Jeremy spoke softly but with authority, telling you that you’re not going back to the warehouse under any circumstances and that he wanted his girlfriend back. He told you he would be over in an hour and to throw on whatever you were comfortable wearing. You couldn’t think of anything else to say except “thank you” as you held back tears.
Jeremy arrived an hour later to find you in his tee and a pair of your comfiest sweats. You hadn’t showered in three days and you knew full well you were a complete mess but you also couldn’t bring yourself to shower before he arrived.
You barely let him walk through the door before you were collapsing into his arms and sobbing against his shoulder. Jeremy wrapped his arms around you tight and held you close, it was the kind of hug that made all your broken parts squish back together while his soft whispers of loving words were the superglue that held them back in place for good. Weeks of anger, depression and frustrations leaked from your eyes and onto his t-shirt. He just stroked your greasy hair back and kissed your temple softly before wiping your cheeks of the tears.
“Let’s get you feeling better, okay baby girl?” He keeps his voice soft and presses a kiss to your lips before helping you stand.
As Jeremy went about his plans you realised he really was the man of your dreams. He ran you a warm bubble bath and added a special blend of salts and oils into the water. As you soaked in the steamy room he fixed back your hair and gently washed your face; a light exfoliation, face mask, eye patches, cleanser and moisturiser. While your face was fixing itself under the mask and eye patches Jeremy had moved to massaging your hands and arms.
A giggle escaped you when he reached your upper inner arm and you could practically hear the smile as he spoke “I’ve missed that sound..”
Placing your arms back down into the water he sits on one edge of the bath and lifts your leg out the water.
“Oh I uh…” you go to sit up in a panic. You’d never let him see you unshaven.
“Sshh, sit back. Sit back baby, it’s okay.”
“But, I’m hairy!” You lift an eye patch to see him.
“So? It’s just hair! I don’t care.”
“But…”
“Would it make you more comfortable if your legs were shaved and hair free?”
You thought for a moment and shrugged “I… do it for you…”
Jeremy tilts his head and looks to you “lay back, I don’t care about hairy legs or anything else.”
“Are you sure?”
“Absolutely. Now lay back and relax.” As you do so, Jeremy exfoliates your legs and moves on to massage them with some of the oil he added to the water, moving down to your feet and enjoying the giggles he inadvertently pulls from you when he presses just a little too lightly.
After your bath you sit wrapped in your towel on a chair Jeremy had brought from his home, he gently leaned you back so your head rested over the bath and used the showerhead to wash your hair. The man doesn’t miss a step and gives you a head massage that felt so good you were moaning quietly.
“Good job you’re already sat in a towel..” he smiles and rinses out your locks, gently combing them to detangle before wrapping your head in a warm dry towel. Helping you sit up, Jeremy wheels you a small way across to your counter where he had set up a make shift beauty station.
“What’s all this?” You frown.
“Gonna finish that facial I started in the bath..” he smiles and stands behind you, leaning your head back against him before proceeding to slowly and gently massage over your face, painlessly pluck a few stray hairs and moisturise you again. Once your neck was also massaged his hands moved down to your shoulders and the back of your neck. His fingers were the embodiment of magic and you hadn’t realised just how much you needed this. He made no comments about tension, stress or muscle knots. You knew full well there was much of all the above before he touched you. He hummed and sang quietly to you while his hands relieved your shoulders of all your carried burdens.
Jeremy tidied the bathroom while you pulled on some fresh clothes, including the hoodie he had worn when he arrived. It was oversized on you and smelt of his cologne; a smell that you had missed and brought tears to your eyes when it wrapped you up.
The rest of the day was spent saying little, eating whatever food and snacks you had available and watching the worst horror movies you could find. Jeremy never let you go the entire time and when you did start talking be listened quietly and squeezed your hand to let you know it was okay, light kisses were fluttered on to your forehead and he waited for you to be silent before asking you if you wanted any help with any part of your worries. He didn’t want to overstep or make an assumption again.
“I just… tell me everything will be okay? Please? We’ll figure stuff out tomorrow but for now, please just tell me I’ll be okay.”
Jeremy folded his arms tight around you and held you close, tilting your face so his eyes could meet yours. “You will be okay. You will get through this.”
You lean your head back down and bury your face against the crook of his neck. “Thank you. That’s all I need right now.”
Life has been swimming past me since I was seventeen. All of the choices I have made, things I have accomplished, life I have lived were made in some sort of fugue state. I was there, I know that for sure, but one day- today- at twenty-four, I "woke up". I was no longer treading just to stay afloat. And maybe that would be okay, to wake up from a muddled dream to actually feel like my life was back in my control, if I hadn't found myself in this situation. A job interview for a position I am well underqualified for and applied to when I was too stoned to think of the crushing anxiety that I might have to endure for such a task. How hard could being a personal assistant be, anyway?
I sit in a beautiful lobby, every part sparkling clean in the sunlight that drifts in through the wall of windows. I am completely underdressed, the dirt that has been worked into the threads of my jeans over years of wear is now meeting the white suede of the couch beneath me. Jeans, for a start, did not belong among the group of people I find myself in. Each person dressed in their business best, hoping to impress the interviewer and intimidate each other. My choice of jeans and long waffle shirt has earned more than their fair share of eyerolls. I wonder what they would say if they knew I washed my clothes at a laundromat.
I look down to my boots, the crumbling mud falling onto the pristine marble floor. I can't help but muster a laugh at the sight. I have no briefcase, unlike the other interviewees, let alone any paperwork to hold.
The bag I do carry is old, patches and visible mending holding it together. It was once my mother's, made for her by a man she worked with during what she called the Kermis days. As if the word spiced up what day to day life actually was for the two of us. We spent many hours under the big top, mending costumes and tending to the performers, most never knowing  a life without her, or me, as I held tightly to her skirts, afraid to lose her in the shuffle.
I remember how she used to cut their hair with swift movements of her scissors, and the way she used to tend to their blisters and new forming scars with careful touches of homemade salve. I dreamed of the smell night after night, the clover mixing with the leftover firework smoke, powdery and full. During the Kermis days, we never had to worry about the clothes we adorned our body with or the way in which we presented, all of the thoughts busied on the performers as they were sewn into their tight costumes.
I left that life at seventeen, and life seemed to drift away from me. I loaded into a van with a couple of the token "gypsy girls" the derogatory term never escaping them for as long as they worked under that tent. We made our money reading tarot out of the back of the van and taking any odd job we could find as we drove cross country. "We will make it big in the city" We'd laugh like a prayer, each passing city limit sign feeling more like a death wish than a ticket to freedom.
In the years since, we have all lived in a one bedroom apartment on the outskirts of the city, our revolving schedules and bed sharing became a sort of solstice as we eclipsed each other with tight hugs and well wished words for the days ahead.
"Excuse me,  is there a Miss L/N? here" A neutral voice pulls me from my thoughts, dragging me back into the lobby, my eyes still glued on the dirt I've managed to knock from my boots. "Miss L/N?"
"Oh! Hi! Yes I am here!" I stand quickly, absentmindedly pulling the sleeves of my shirt down over my hands, taking the cuffs into balls in my palms. A tall man in a almost fitting dark suit stands in front of the desk I checked in at about a half our ago. He looks at me, eyes wandering over my frame before gesturing me forward with the clipboard in his hands.
I try not to think about the trail of crumbling earth I leave behind me as I walk to him. He turns on his heel, not bothering to speak another word. I follow him down a large hallway, glass on either side allowing for beautiful views of the city. I'd look out them, if I cared to know what the world looked like from this high up, but the anxiety that twists my stomach makes sure to keep my eyes trained on the back of the man's head. His dark hair is beginning to twist at the nape, overdue for a cut. I move a bit to the right of him as he shuffles along, glancing at the length of his too-long sideburns and the way they are beginning to hide the sides of his face.
"You need a haircut." The words slip from my lips before I can stop them. There is no sweetness to the comment, only blunt direction. The tone sounding more like my mother than myself. My eyes go wide as I slap a hand over my mouth. He turns to pull a door open, looking at me with scrutinizing eyes, narrow and impassive.
"I'll take that into account," He deadpans with a crumpled up smirk. He quickly turns his attention inside the room, tilting his head to signal me inside. "Team, this is-" His voice moves to the background of my mind, introducing me to the group of people in the room before disappearing with the closing of the door.
I drag my eyes across the panel of people sitting on the plush furniture. Each wears a sticky nametag, names drawn out in pen. Bruce a dark featured, handsome man sits on one of the armchairs, a clipboard in hand. A cute, deep skinned man sits on the sofa next to him, the name Sam scribbled across his nametag. Sat next Sam is a very muscular brunette wearing the name 'Bucky'. Next to him is a very normal appearing man wearing a bright smile, my eyes dash down to the nametag- Scott. An unassuming name for an unassuming man. My eyes wander over to the loveseat where a beautiful young girl is sitting, the name Kate on her nametag in scribbles.
"Cricket?" A small voice whispers, sounding from the corner of the group. The nickname makes my heart jump, adrenaline soring through me at the drop of a hat. Cricket, a nickname I haven't heard since I left the big top. My gaze jumps from Kate to the man sitting next to her, his face a scrunched up mix of amazement and confusion. There is a murmur among the group as they look amongst each other for some sort of clarification.
I finally make eye contact with the owner of the voice, bravery surging through me. I look over his features more closely this time. Time has written itself onto his soft features, dark bags under his eyes from lack of sleep. I would know those eyes anywhere, their soft blue gray burned into my memory.
"Frass," The name spills from my lips, the end catching in my throat a bit. We hold eye contact like it's fragile, too heavy to let go of, to break, eyes boring into each other's. The memories of us spill into my head like oil slick, slippery, coating any other thought with their sticky image.
"You're going to hurt yourself if you keep trying to sew this up in the dark, and your Mama will have your head if I bleed on this costume," Clint scolds warningly, fidgeting beneath my touch.
"Well if you stopped moving I could sew this up and get you out before your cue with a proper costume," I stitch the sleeve to the yolk of his shirt carefully, the needle moving easily through the fabric. I stand carefully on a stool to reach the rip with ease. "Or I can send you out there with it ripped and we can see who's head my mother will have then." The archer huffs out a mumble of an apology, bouncing carefully on his toes. I keep sewing, moving along with his gentle motions, careful not to poke him with the needle.
"You know, you're pretty good at this for a kid." He sends the backhanded compliment my way, the words stinging my heart. I hum at him, a makeshift thank you.
"You know, as the adult here, I could leave you to fix your own costume." I inform him, bite in my voice, pulling the last stitch through. He fumbles around with the bow in his hands, fingertips brushing over it's length. "And I am twelve, basically a teenager, not a kid, and my birthday is coming up. Next week. " I tell him, cutting the thread with my teeth. I whisper the last part, trying not to over hint.
"Yeah, sure, whatever you say, Cricket." He laughs, turning to face me. I make a spin motion with my finger. He holds his arms out and spins, allowing me to take in the rest of his costume in full.
"You're all set," I tell him, pushing the needle into the pincushion on my wrist. "Why do you call me that, anyway?"
"You'd hate the reason, Cricket." He laughs again, brushing a hand through his spiky hair. I huff at the man as I climb off of the stool. "Okay fine, if you really want to know. It's because you've always been such a small thing, and you always hum while you work, just like your mom."  He states coolly. I can't help but roll my eyes. "See, I knew you'd hate it!"
I pluck the stool from the ground as I turn to wander off. "You know what, Clint Francis," I turn back to him, now standing a few feet away, "Just for that, you've earned yourself a new nickname." He quirks an eyebrow at me, still visible in the low light behind the curtains as he tries to hide the disgust that flashes across his face from hearing his middle name. A devilish smirk creeps over my lips as I look at him. "Have a good show, Frass." I wave at him with a wiggle of my fingers.
"What does that even mean? He questions me, eyebrows knit together but a small smile plays at his lips. I stop in my tracks, turning around to meet his gaze once more.
"Francis the ass," I state, corners of my mouth curling up into a deeply devious smirk. I don't even wait for a response before I turn to leave.
"Hey, Cricket!" He calls after me, "You're the most annoying kid sister I've ever had!"
"Not your sister, Frass." I shout behind me as I push a curtain to the side, ready to disappear out into the lot. "Go shoot something, would you?"
I always knew my little crush on the much older boy was silly, something I was teased for by my mother. Maybe it wasn't even a crush, maybe it was a sort of knowing, that his soul and mine were made of the same stardust. My mom used to laugh when I'd say that, a knowing look falling over her features. "Whatever you say, sweet pea, whatever you say." She would repeat as she brushed her hands over my hair. "You can love him when you are an adult. Then ten years won't be such a big difference, okay?" I would roll my eyes at her, fingers working over a costume piece as I worked on my invisible stitches.
Clint held a special place in my heart, a new sort of love I never knew how to name. Cashmere told me one night as she read my tarot that we had a destiny, the universe pulling us together. She said it in a teasing way, maybe to help justify my young feelings. Her words only cemented what I already knew, Clint and I came from the same stuff, the borealis where souls were made. Essence shimmering in the great nebula, stardust turned sentient.
I counted down the days until adulthood, but I only made it 547 days before Clint left the circus, leaving me behind at the tender age of fourteen.
"Is anyone going to fill us in here?" Sam breaks the silence. I can't seem to look anywhere but Clint, my eyes tracing over his figure. He wears a dark purple tee-shirt and a pair of black cargo pants, his muscle visible beneath the clothing. I fight off a smile.
"Right, right, hello." I finally speak to the rest of the room. I  turn to nod a 'thank you' to the man who walked me into the room only to find out he had already disappeared. I try to fight off the embarrassment that crawls over my skin, leaving pinpricks in it's wake, turning my skin a bright shade of crimson as I walk over to the empty armchair next to Bruce. "My name is Y/N L/N, it's nice to meet you all," I offer my kindest smile, eyes drawing themselves back to Clint. I want to hit him, or hug him, or both. Maybe I just crave the feeling of his skin.
"And you're here for the job interview, right?" Bruce asks, his voice wavering slightly. I nod, running my sweat slick hands over the tops of my jeans. I look at Bruce, eyebrows raised in an attempt to seem inviting. I smile, but it doesn't quite reach my eyes.
"I know we are supposed to ask questions about the interview, but I've gotta know more about what's going on here," Kate speaks as she looks around the room. She is picking at the ends of her hair with her fingertips like she is scrutinizing every split end.  Clint adverts his eyes at her words, focusing his line of sight straight at the floor in front of his feet. The group voices agreements with Kate as they look between us again, each deciding on who they want to focus on with a trained gaze. Thankfully almost everyone settles on Clint, eyeing him carefully, but he doesn't acknowledge them.
"We sorta grew up together," I finally speak, folding my arms across my chest. "But, uhh, he left before I was grown." The tension in the air between us grows thicker the longer the silence lingers in the air. A guilty look falls over Clint's features, a blush crawling up from under the collar of his shirt. I stifle a laugh, if anyone should be embarrassed for how the situation went down, it should be me. But it's not like he would know anything of it.
"Mom, what are you doing with Clint's costume?" I question her, pulling out a stool to sit at the table next to her. She is making quick work of pulling off all the sequence and trim, sorting them into piles, small and careful. She looks up at me with sad eyes, a smile pressed over the thin lines of her lips.
"Oh Cricket, honey," She begins, tears welling up in her big brown eyes, "I don't know how to tell you this, but," She sets down the costume, holding her hands out to me. I take them cautiously, her bulbus joints creaking as she closes her hands around mine. "Clint left a couple of days ago, we were all hoping that he would be coming back, but there has been no sign of him. So, Mr. Carson is having me take his costume apart to save on materials for the new one we will have to make when they find someone to fill his place," She explains each bit slowly and carefully, running her thumbs over the backs of my hands to try and comfort the storm she knows is brewing within me.
I can feel my chest tighten, tears pushing out through my tightly closed eyes. I don't want to believe her. Clint wouldn't just leave, especially without saying goodbye. I can feel a distant sob escape me, my head too clouded with thoughts. I can feel my mom pull me into her arms, snaking them around me in a tight embrace. She coos and shushes me as the tears stream down my face.
That was the first of many instances like this that took over my life for the next sixteen months.
I can feel the long forgotten emotions begin to wrap themselves around my ribcage, causing a cough to crawl up the dryness of my throat. "Anyway, let's get this interview going, shall we?" I ask, pulling a cheek numbing smile onto my face. I try and push down the hurt, but it just squeezed me tighter.
"Of course," Sam coughs, clearing his throat of all the tension, "So, I suppose you know we are interviewing for an assistant. We are looking for someone to move into the compound up state and watch over everything up there. We all come and go so often for missions its hard to do simple things like grocery shopping. We try and keep up with each other's schedules, but we need someone to work as the go between when we aren't all in the same place. We do have a maid service, so you wouldn't need to worry about that." Sam explains, running a finger down his clipboard.
"Okay, sounds easy enough." I acknowledge with a nod of my head.
"What kind of skills do you have?" Scott counters, "How would you be any better than the rest of the people we have already spoken to today?" His tone is curious, not at all daunting.
"Well, I can cook, I can sew. I basically kept the big top turning after my mom passed away. That is, managing people time and making sure everyone was on the same page when shit hit the fan and we would have to move acts around." I explain, gesturing with my hands. "I am also quiet, and clean, despite my current appearance-"
"Mama died?"
"Clint, you were in a circus?"
Bucky and Clint speak at the same time, interrupting me. I can feel his eyes burrowing into my profile, and I know that if I look I will see tears in his eyes. I couldn't handle that, I know I couldn't.
"Yes, she did. When I was fifteen." I explain, wringing my hands. I stifle down more feeling of hurt before I continue. "But as I was saying, I haven't had any complaints when it comes to roommates, and I keep my word. Clint can vouch for that one." I pin that on him, knowing that he owes me as much. His name left my lips and it felt clunky on my tongue. I haven't called him 'Clint' in years, and it hurt.
The group gaze flickers over to Clint, and he just nods, a half hearted murmur crawling out of his lips. He has his head buried in his hands, elbows to knees. I can feel the pang of hurt run through me at the sight of him like this. It has always hurt the same way.
"Well, this has been, interesting. I think we will cut it here, take a break. Thank you for coming in. We will give you a call when we make our final decision." Bruce speaks, pulling my attention to him. He stands, holding his hand out for me to shake. I take it with a firm squeeze, just how Clint taught me so many years ago.
I bid the rest of the group goodbye before walking out the door. I follow back down the large hallway, the shock of the last fifteen minutes rising in me. By the time I reach the lobby, I can feel the broken pieces of my heart start to wobble in their place. After years of stuffing down the feelings of heartbreak and abandonment from Clint and his reaction to my mother's passing, all the old emotions seem to rush back through me.
I know I shouldn't hurt, so much life has passed since it all happened, but all I can think of now is the pressure of it all against my ribcage and the ever looming prayer that repeats itself over and over and over again. "Do not call me, do not call me, do not call me."
I duck into a nearby bathroom, crashing hard against the tile floor in front of the toilet before a mix of bile and anguish escapes me. I empty my stomach into the porcelain, the smell of lemon cleaner and bleach numbing the soreness of my chest. Tears leave hot, wet trails down my cheeks.
All I can think about is the last encounter I had with Clint before he left the big top. The way he spoke to me, soft and feathery.
"Hey Cricket, can I ask you something?" Clint grabs my bicep as I walk by, a big bowl of chili in my hands. Everyone is gathered around a caravan, dinner being served before we turn in for the night. The show has long ended, the crowds disappearing with the smell of popcorn and sickly sweet cotton candy.
"Yeah, Frass, what's up?" I peer up into his eyes, my heart thrumming against my chest.
"Are you happy here?" He questions, not quite meeting my eyes. I scrunch my eyebrows with question, never having expected those words to come out of his mouth. I think over them for just a second, mulling thoughts turning over in my head like acrobats.
"Of course I am," I chuckle a bit, "I can't imagine life anywhere else. This is all I've ever known, and these guys are my family, well  most of them anyway." I let my eyes graze over the group around us, taking in each of their faces in a brief sweep. A warm feeling blooms in my chest.
Fourteen, living the life most people dream of, in love with a man I've known for most of my life, and a large chosen family, who wouldn't be happy with a life like mine? Clint lets out a strangled chuckle after a moment, his hand finally dropping from my arm only to run anxiously through his hair. I offer him a soft smile.
"Yeah, of course." He answers after another moment, eyes finally catching mine. He reaches up carefully to tuck a strand of hair behind my ear, the touch innocent and sweet. My smile blooms a bit wider.
"You're really a good kid, you know that?" He offers, his words holding a bit of sadness even with the upturned swing of them as they leave his lips.
"I'm not a kid, Frass" I remind him, pushing his shoulder. He just smiles down at me, squeezing my shoulder lightly before turning to the caravan. He walks away without another look back.
A few days later, I sit in the bathtub at the apartment, fully clothed with no water in the tub. The only place with any sort of quiet. I turn the pages of the novel in my hand, reading the words but none of them make it to my brain. My mind keeps drifting back to the interview and how strange the whole situation was.
It hit me yesterday, that the group was the Avengers, or what was left of them, I suppose. I interviewed for an assistant position with the damn Avengers, and Clint was there, barely making an effort to look at me. Maybe I shouldn't even be surprised with what the world has been through the past few years. At this point, you could tell me just about anything and I'd believe it.
My phone rings loudly, vibrating against the bottom of the tub, causing me to jump.  I grab it quickly, answering it with a cool hello.
"Hey, hi, is this Cricket, I mean, Y/N, is this Y/N?" I cringe a little at the nickname coming over the phone.
"This is," I finally speak, my voice wavering in question, "How can I help you?"
"This is Sam, from the job interview" He notifies me. I swallow thickly, a lump forming in my throat.
"What can I do for you, Sam?" I wring my hands together, a new layer of sweat beginning to coat my palms. Fuck all of this nervous energy.
"I am calling to offer you the job. We all talked after you left and Clint spoke so highly of you, I mean, we all agreed that there couldn't be anyone better for the job after he told us some stories." My blood runs cold at his words. I flip through the memories in my brain, trying to figure out what Clint might have told them.
Before I can even think, the words leave my mouth like I am possessed. "Sam, I'd be honored to take the position." I later blame the hasty decision on the hunger that panged through me, and the yearning in my soul to be surrounded by people again, working and serving and creating.
A month goes by and I have completely moved into the upstate compound. Life is different now, steady most days. I grocery shop and tidy up the messes the team leaves after they ravage the compound when they come home from missions. I cook for them too, even though Bruce insists it wasn't a part of my job. It feels right in my soul, so I do it anyway.
I haven't seen Scott, Kate, or Sam since I moved into the compound. They have been on mission since shortly after my initial interview. I can't decide if that's better or worse than having Clint here, avoiding my eyes like he did before. We pass each other in the hall, or in the common areas, and each and every time he averts his eyes from me. I don't think he has said anything not work related to me since I moved in and it makes my soul ache.
A few months go by and no progress has been made between us. I can't help but look at him, snagging glances as we pass each other, or in meetings. The compound seems lonelier when he is on mission, and I breathe easier when he is here. Maybe I should push past this childhood crush, even if that means breaking my own heart.
I push the thought out of my head as I finish brushing my teeth. I spit the suds into the sink before rinsing out my mouth. I point at myself in the mirror, toothbrush still in hand.
"Do not mourn those who are still living, it's a waste of precious heart space," I tell myself, repeating the words my Mom used to say to the performers after they went through breakups. She used to then turn to me and tell me not to date my coworkers, a goofy smile spread over her lips. I would roll my eyes at her.
A knock at my door pulls me from the mirror pep talk. I throw my toothbrush back into the drawer before headed to the door. I pull it open, the sight of Clint greets me. I try and wipe the confused look from my face, the harsh line between my brows only easing slightly.
"Hey," He whispers, avoiding my eyes. He fumbles with his hands a bit, pulling on his fingers.
"Hi," I respond, the word barely loud enough to hear.
"Can I come in?" He questions, eyes meeting the middle of my face, not quite making it to my eyes, but definitely closer this time. I step aside, pulling the door open wider in invitation. Clint pads into the room just far enough for me to close the door behind him.
I look him over carefully as he stands awkwardly in my small living room. The dark colors of his clothes standing out against the light gray of the undecorated room. He looks like hell, deep lines of exhaustion making purchase over the tenderness of his features. The dark flesh under his eyes almost eclipse the pale blue of his iris's, offsetting their normally bright color. His hair stands up in all directions. Sweat and dirt coat his whole body, smudges greasy on the light skin of his face.
"You look like hell, Frass," I finally speak. I want to reach out and touch him, run my thumbs over the fullness of his cheeks, the apex of his lips, allowing the dirt to coat my fingertips. He chuckles a bit, light and scratchy.
"You look," He stumbles a bit, "Grown up," He finally decides on his words, bringing his lower lip between his teeth.
"I'm sure I do, it's been a long time since we talked like this," My smile falters a bit, wavering at my words. My lungs burn in my chest. "You've grown into yourself, I think," I drink him in, dirt and all. He is even more handsome than he was back then, I think, or maybe it's because I now see him through the eyes of a women, the way he is meant to be seen. A bit of guilt settles in me for looking at him so unbashful, but as he stands here in my living room, I can't help but take him in. He can't run from my gaze here.
He smiles at me this time, but its fleeting. The feeling that blooms in my chest however, isn't.
"I came to ask you about something, but I'm not sure you're going to remember it," Clint looks almost defeated at the thought, and the look on his face crushes the joy in my chest just a little.
"Okay." That's the only word I can manage. I nod, though, my lips falling into a small and tense almost-smile.
"I talked to your Mom before I left," He starts, coughing a bit to try and clear the tension, "I asked her about a rumor that was going around." I nod at him, urging him to keep talking, "But she, she wouldn't tell me if it was true or not, so I guess I am asking you if it is." He takes a step closer but there is still a world of unknown space and unsaid words between us.
I can barely think with his body this close to mine, the fog of decade old feelings clouding my judgement. It tastes sweet, nostalgic and comforting, like a glass of sun tea.
"I heard that you used to say that we were made up of the same stuff. Something about souls being created together." He mumbles the words like he is unsure of how they are supposed to be said. I can feel pinpricks of a blush blooming over my skin. His words hang in the air between us, time stopping for just a moment, freezing us in place.
Maybe, if this were eight, or four, or two years ago, I would crumble. If it was six months ago, I might be able to take them with a shot of forty proof nausea. But now, I only bristle a bit, more under his gaze than around his words.
"Yeah, what about it?" I finally question. I hate the words as soon as I say them, wishing I could snatch them right out of the air. Erase them from our history. But I know if I could, I wouldn't stop, rewinding my life to the last conversation we had about happy lives and I would lie and tell him I was just as miserable as him, and maybe he would've taken me with him.
"Did you mean it?" He looks pained, the words hanging over him, or maybe they are dragging him down.
I laugh and it's the loudest sound that has occurred between us in years.
"Frass, you came here to ask me about a childhood crush?" I lie a bit, the crush began in childhood, but I am still doing everything in my power to deny it's current existence. His eyes go a bit wide, but he tries to crinkle the rest of his expression to cover it up. I can't help but let a low chuckle fill the room again, the sound breaking through the dense air.
"Yeah, sort of, I guess," He runs a hand through his hair, but it does nothing to tame his messy locks, and I suspect it does nothing to quell his anxiety either.
"Sit, would you?" I gesture to the sofa, my voice soft. He moves to sit, not caring about the dirty he is covered in. "What exactly do you want to know, Frass?" He flounders for a moment, mouth opening and closing without a sound.
"What exactly did you tell your Mom? That's the first question,"
I smile at the memory, playing it over in my brain on fast forward.
"I told her only a bit, at first. I said that your soul and mine were made of the same stardust. She laughed at the thought, no doubt telling other people about it, because they would tease me all around the big top, and that's probably how you heard it. She knew I was in love, well, as in love as a kid could be, you know?" Clint nods at my words, taking them in carefully. "After you left, especially after she got sick, I told her more and more about the little moment we shared, and about how much I loved you. She always said it made her happy to see how happy you made me, even if it was just talk of memories."
"When did you leave?" Clint asks, his voice low, barely there.
"I left shortly after I turned seventeen. I left with Cashmere, Cherry, and Jacinda. We got in a van and travelled across the country. Those girls saved my soul, in a way, got me here. I owe them a lot. I was slipping before we left." I shake my head to get that thought out of my brain.
Clint scoots closer, placing a tentative hand on my knee. I take in the feeling of his hand on my body again, for the first time in so long, but his touch is gone before I can commit it to memory.
"Cashmere agrees with me, you know. Stardust turned sentient." I mumble the last part, pulling my bottom lip into my mouth.
"I like that." Clint smiles to himself, eyes closed, corners of his lips turned upward. For the first time he looks content.
"What was your other question?" I ask with a light voice, trying my best to not disturb the calm that has fallen over him.
"You said you loved me. Was that part true?" He seems hesitant to ask, but does anyway, avoiding eye contact. I don't blame him.
"Of course I do, Frass. We grew up together. I have loved you since I was eight. Of course, back then I just liked that I wasn't invisible, but you know what I mean."
"How could you be invisible when you clung to your Mom's skirts so tight that your knuckles were chronically white?" He laughs, the bright sound filling the room. I smile at that, a full smile that reaches my eyes.
"Do you love me now?" His eyes meet mine, a low burning beneath his irises. Maybe this is a trap, but I can't find it in me to care. After all, love is meant to be shared, is it not?
"Yes, Frass, I do love you. Always have, always will."
"Oh thank god," And with that, he grabs me by the wrist and pulls me into his lap, my legs straddling his as he takes my face in his large hands. His rough skin scrapes against my cheeks as he pulls me down to his lips, and the only thing that makes sense anymore is this. My hands wrapped around his neck, fingers digging into the too long hair at the nape of his neck while he kisses me like our lives depend on it, and maybe they do.
"What the hell was that?" I laugh as I push him away, a smile spreading across my lips.
"You have been living here for months now, and I have been slowly falling in love with you since you walked into that meeting room in the city. The sight of you almost killed me, Cricket, and living here at arms length from you has made me realize something. I can't live a second more without you, the stardust that runs through my veins is pulling me towards you and I just can't resist anymore, I love you, Cricket." Clint's eyes never leave mine as he speaks, each word filling me with a warmth that spreads over the whole expanse of my body.
"I love you, too, Frass," I whisper, leaning in to meet his lips again, I stop just before they meet. "Mama was right. All I had to do was wait, it just seemed to take you a long damn time, Clint Francis," Clint chuckles a bit, eyes bright now, standing out against the dirt that coats his face.
"And I thought coming in here and kissing you would be moving too fast," I just roll my eyes at him before closing the distance between us.  Stardust calls to stardust, atoms to atoms, me to him and him to me; the feeling of our bodies settling into each other with each gentle touch, each caress of skin or hair, cementing the idea that we are meant of each other. Made from the same stuff.
Whatever it takes(Clint barton)
Paring: Clint Barton x reader
Summary: clint barton and his wife are in charge of the soul stone. Only one will be able to return home.
Tumblr media
"three groups, six stones" Steve stated. I stood next to my husband Clint kinda zoned out. I was scared shit-less to say the least I looked over to my brother Scott and slightly smiled. He simply smiled and gave me a reassuring smile.
"you'll bring that back in one piece, right?" Rocket said to Clint bring me back to reality. I looked down at the raccoon. He had his arms crossed eyeing Clint as he held on to Peter Quil's ship. I knew it was important to Rocket. "we'll take care of it Rocket" I said softly. Clint looked over to my and grabbed my hand. He gave it quick squeeze as Bruce started up the time machine.
"see you all in a minute" I smiled.
"take care of my sister Clint" Scott said pointing at the two of us. "we'll be fine Bugs"
---------
We climbed up the mountain as dust and snow flew everywhere. The closer up we got the colder and heaver the snow fell on our shoulders. When we made it the top the place was diserted. It was quite and and dark clouds surounded the top. "clin-" I whispered but he cut me off. "shhh" he said pulling out one of his arrows.
"Clint and (y/n) Barton" a voice said. Clint quickly took his place in front of me and loaded his bow. I quickly pulled out my sword.
The figure came into view. He was floating and was covered in a black clok and hood. "I am keeper of the soul stone"
"oh good just tell us where it is and we'll be on our way" I spoke trying to sound stern.
"to retrieve the stone you must give up the thing you love most." the keeper said. "a soul for a soul"
I sat on the rock taking the little information we were given. Clint was placing back and forth and giving of sarcastic remarks to the keeper.
"maybe this is just all a load of shit... Maybe he just lying" he spoke kneeling In front of me and placed his hand on my knee. I shook my head.
"I don't think so... when Thanos left this place he left with the stone but not his daughter... It's not a coincidence" I said standing up. "whatever it take.. Remember?"
"yeah.. Whatever it takes" he mumbled refusing to make eye contact.
"if we don't get that stone millions of people stay dead" I spoke looking into his eyes. Clint looked down at me with misty eyes. Then nodded. "then I guess we both know who's it's gotta be"
I nodded and took Clint's hand intertwining out fingers. "I guess we do" I whispered and squeezed his hand tightly and looked down at his black wedding ring. Clint then tilted his head to the side making eye contact. "I'm being to think we're think off different people here... Little bird" he said using the Nickname he gave me long ago and it was the first I've heard it in five years. It was a comfort and It reminded me of all I'm fighting for.
"the last five years.... Actually all my life I've been trying to fix things from back when I was stealing things with my brother to now.. Now we have a chance to bring everyone back." I told him. And he shook his head.
"don't get all decent on me now"
"I'm trying to save your life you idjit" I said placing my hands on his chest trying to push him away. "well I don't want you too... How's that" he spoke.
"if I do this you can have the chance to live the life you always wanted" I said my voice cracking. I felt my heart race and the fear of him getting in my way increased.
"the life I always wanted is with you!" he slightly shouted as a tears started to pool in his eyes "and if anyone is getting home to our daughter it's gonna be you"
"Clint please..." I cried. "let me be the hero you think I am"
Clint sighed and placed his hand on my cheek. "your a real pain in my ass you know that" he joked. "you love me for it" I chuckled but It ended with a quiet sob.
My smile was cut short by him placing a soft kiss to my lips. "okay" he whispered against my lips. He kissed my lips one more time then pulled away fully.
"alright you win"
Clint quickly moved closer and slammed me to the ground stopping me from going anywhere. "tell our daughter I love her" he said and started to run towards the edge of the cliff. Before he could get to far and grabbed his ankles and pushed him to his back. I quickly stood up and looked at him on last time. "tell her your self...and take care of her" I quickly turned to were the edge of the mountain was and started running. I soon fell to the ground again by one of his stupid exploding arrows.
As being to stand up I watched Clint jump and actually get over the edge. "no!" I quickly ran after him and grabbed his hand to try and pull him up but I was pulled down too. Our fall was cut short by one of his grappling hook arrows and held on to me for dear life. "hang on baby... Please just hang on" he sobbed as he tried to figure out how to get me back up safely. I did as I was told and held on.
"Clint.." I spoke softly. Clint quickly shook his head and kept trying to pull me up to his body. "Damnit hang on-"
"Clint" I spoke again. "no, please no I can't loose you" he cried looking down at me and refusing to let go. "Clint it's okay... It's okay" I said giving him my best smiled.
"I Love You Hawk, never forget that" I said. Placed my boots on the side of the mountain and pushed off making Clint loose his grip of me. "no!" was the last thing I heard before the feeling of falling consumed me before things went black.
(Clint's pov)
"did we do it? Did it work?" Scott asked excited. "(n/n) we did it!" her voice didn't respond. Scott looked around and his smile fade as he watched me stomp of the time machine with tears running down my eyes.
"Clint where's (y/n)? Where's my sister" Scott asked. I only squeezed my eyes shut and fell to my knees. Nat quickly wrapped her arm around my shoulder and hugged me tight.
"Damnit!" Scott shouted and threw his helmet a crossed the room.
I didn't say much the rest of the day. We ended up at the dock of the compound. I had my back to everyone else muffling out there conversation I till Tony's question made me perk up.
"Scott, did you and (y/n) have any other family?" Scott didn't answer so Steve butted in. "yeah us"
"what are you doing?" Thor asked coming up behind Tony. "I just asked a question" Tony whispered and looked over to me.
"yeah, no your acting like she's dead, why are we acting like she dead?" Thor asked Tony and Steve.
"we have the stones right? As long as we have the stones Cap, we can bring her back" Thor said more frantically and started to break down himself. The two weren't very close but you could tell Thor did very much care about (y/n). They all did.
She was like the rock of the team and always put us before herself. She loved every single one of us and always made sure we were okay rather it be eating a proper meal, getting enough sleep, or being patched up and healthy after a mission. She wore her heart on her sleeve and the heart of gold she had was one of many reasons I fell in love with her.
"we can't bring her back" I whispered for the first time. The Team looked at me and tears slowly fell down my cheek. I clintched my fist roughly and eyed my black wedding ring she picked out for me. "what?" Thor mumbled.
"it can't be undone" I repeated and looked at Natasha. Nat looked down and crossed her arms.
"look I'm sorry, no offense but your a very earthy being" Thor said. I really did want to punch him. All the anger, sorrow, and guilt that was all jamed packed inside of me was fighting to get out. "we are talking about space magic" Thor started up again. "and 'cant' seems to be a little definitive don't you think?"
"yeah look I know I'm way out of my pay rate here but she isn't here, is she?" I said getting angry. "that's my point" Thor mumbled and refused to look at me.
"it. Can't. Be. Undone!" I said more stern. "or at least that's what the big red floating guy had to say. Maybe you want to go talk to him" I shouted. "yeah go grab your hammer and you go fly over there and you go talk to him" I shouted trying to control my tears. "Clint.." Natasha whispered and put her hand on my shoulder.
"God Damnit it was supposed to be me!" I shouted and crumbled to the ground and fell on my butt. "she sacrificed her self for that fucking stone, she put her life on it!" this time I herd Bruce snap. Bruce picked up the bench he was next to and snapped it in half and threw it across the lake. Bruce and her were best friends. They looked out for each other and had the same friendship I had with Nat.
"how am I supposed to tell (daughter's name)? How can I tell her that her mom's not coming home" I cried as Nat wrapped her arms around me and held me tight.
(your pov)
My body jolted awake and air was was running smoothly through my body. My throat felt like it was on fire and my body aced. When I tried to set up I noticed I couldn't go anywhere. I was trapped in endless darkness.
"help!" I shouted which only made my throat feel worse. My voice scratched and squeaked as I started banging on the box I was in. I threw one more punch and heard the wood from the box creek. I decided to start pushing and as I did sharp pieces of dirt and grave fell on my face and into my eyes.
"come on-" I was cut off my the lid opening and a pile of dirt covered me drowning me.
I closed my eyes and used me nails and the little straight I had to pull me up to were there was light. My body felt like it was being pulled through a taffy puller as I clawed at the brown and green grass and dirt from the land I was trying to get on top of. When I successfully made it out I slammed my self on the nature filled area. The sun blazed down at me and my back started get soaked from the dirt and wet grass I was laying on.
When heart beat finally got to a normal pace and I started to breath regular I rolled over and sat on my knees. And looked around. All I saw was browns and greens. I was out in the middle of a forest and in the middle nowhere. It was hot and wet around were I was at and it felt like the sun just made its life goal to annoy me.
As I stood up my knees wobbled and my lungs heaved as I got cought in a coughing fit. I walked down the empty road clenching my chest as walked to nowhere in particular. I didn't know where I was out or even how to get back home. It seemed I didn't know anything and my memory was very fuzzy from the last time I was with Clint and the team
I sighed in relief when I saw a run down gas station. There was no one there and it looked deserted but I could care less if it had water and food I'm happy. I worked up the strength I had and sprinted to the front door. I frantically knocked on the door but no one responded. "hello?" I said my voice getting horse again. I sighed and wrapped my hand on my flannel and broke the glass window that was in the door. I took my hand out of my shirt and reached through the hole I made and unlocked the door. I slowly walked in. It was quite the only sound was heard was the soft humming of the fridges and the small cracking of glass being crushed under my Converse covered feet.
I sighed and rushed to the fridge that kept all the water bottles. Quickly grabbed one and practically broke the lid taking it off. The first one was luke warm but it was gone in seconds. I pressed my back against the fridge and slowly slid down it drinking the next one a little slower than the first one. I let out a breath and tilted my head back feeling the water and sweat drip off my face. Getting tired of the sticky feeling I slowly walked to the bathroom and splashed water on my face. I quickly cought the drops of water in my flannel and wiped my face.
I slowly stood up straight and carefully peaked through the material afraid to see how bad I look. I uncovered my face fully and studied myself. My face was thinner and the blue hair diy was fully faded and my hair was its original brown. I looked thinner and weaker than the last time I looked in the mirror. I tilted my head to the side and noticed something red peaking under the sleeve of my shirt. I quickly pulled the fabric up and saw a red burn the shape of a hand print. I sighed and checked the other the shoulder. I saw the same thing. I pulled my sleeve down left the bathroom and walked into the main area of the station.
as I started to munch on a bag of chips I noticed the news paper that was slightly crumbled. I read the date and gasped. "I've been gone for 8 months?" I whispered to myself. 'I needed to get home' I thought. I looked over to the cash register and sighed feeling guilty as I opened it and pocketed most of the change and took at least five of each dollar bill. I sighed and quickly went out side looking for a pay phone.
When I found it I practically ran into the door trying to get to the phone as fast as possible. I quickly dialed scott's phone. "come on Bugs"
"hello?" he answered. His voice sounded horse and broken.
"Scott, its me" I quickly said and looked out the window of the phone booth being aware of my surroundings.
"who's me?" he said sounding a little frustrated.
"Scott it's (y/n)" I said and the line went dead. I quickly dialed again. "okay who is this really because I don't find this funny" he spoke his voice getting lower and angrier.
"Scott I promise it's me"
"don't call this number again" he said and hung up. "Damnit Scott!" I growled before slamming the phone back in its place. I hit my forehead on the wall of the booth a couple of time then noticed a old car. I quickly got out of the small box and ran to the vehicle. It was an old dented vw beatle. I quickly hot wired it and got it started. I praised God and started to race down the empty dirt road.
--------------
After hours of driving the roads and streets started to get familiar. I sighed in relief as the familiar building and skyscrapers came into view. I thanked God as sped the car up and raced to my brother's house. When parked a block away and started to walk down the neighborhood. When I finally made to Scott's front door I noticed it was too quiet there wasn't any children's laughter to fill my ears, there wasn't any play dates with Cassie and who ever friend she had over it was completely silent..
I started to frantically knocking on the door till it opened reveling Hope. Her eyes bugged out and she covered her mouth. "good to see ya hope.. is Scott home?" I slightly smiled. She quickly snapped herself out of her gaze and opened the door more. "he's at the compound" she said leaning on the door Fram. "you want a ride over?" she asked. I shook my head no. "I got a car..
Kinda had to got back to me and Scott's old ways" I slightly chuckled. Hope softly smiled and nodded.
"we missed you... Scott isn't the same with out his partner in crime" she smiled. "how's (daughter's name) and Cassie?" I asked.
"there both over at the compound" hope answered. I nodded "I probably should head down there but I don't know how they'll handle it"
Hope didn't answer only rapped her arms around me and hugged me tight. "I missed you" I hugged her back and rested my head on her shoulder. "good luck with them" she nodded and slightly teared up.
------------
"I got it" I heard Peter yell then foot steps coming closer to the door. When he finally opened it he had the same reaction as hope only more emotions filled his eyes. "hay kid" I smiled. "who's at the door" I heard Tony's voice in the distance. I chuckled and wanted to cry myself. Just the sound of his voice made me happy. Tony then came into view showing how much he changed. The side of his face was slightly scared and his arm was wrapped up in the cast of some sort that looked like it came from his suit. He immediately started to cry and pushed Peter out of the way. He trapped me in bone crushing hug. He was one of my best friends and was like big brother/father to me. He pulled me away and held my face in his hands.
"are you real? Am I dreaming?" I laughed. "I'm really here Tones." he quickly pulled me back to his chest and chuckled. "I missed you" he whispered.
"I'll go find Mr. Barton and (daughter's name)" I heard Peter say and he disappeared. I pulled away from Tony.
"how's (daughter's name)?" Tony smiled. "what's can I say she's just like her mom"
"growing up too fast." Tony added as he closed the door after letting me into the building. Tony lead me into the main room were we all used to hang out and have our weekly movie nights or parties. In the corner of my eyes I noticed Peter returning and (daughter's name) was in his arms.
"momma!" she shouted and jumped out of his arms And ran to me as fast as she could. I immediately knelt down and had my arms out wide. She immediately wrapped her arms around my neck and held on to me. "I missed you momma"
"I missed you to baby bird." I said tearing up a bit. She grown up so much. He hair was longer and she was bit taller but still had the same adorable baby face she had the last time we were together.
"(y/n)?" I hear a deep voice say I turn round with (daughter's name) at my hip as I held on to her. It was Clint he looked tired and run down but was still handsome as ever. He still had the sparkle and cockyness in his Icy blue eyes. "hay hawk" I set our daughter down gently.
"oh my God" he ran up to me and held me face in his hands. "I'm I dreaming?" he said tearing up. I shook my head as tears started to roll down my cheeks.
"I'm here baby, I'm here" I said placing my hands on his chest. "I'm home" he slammed his lips to mine and kissed me passionately and held in to my waist holding me tight like he was afraid I'll disappear again. "I thought I lost you forever" he mumbled against my lips.
"your not getting ride of me that easy" I gigged running my fingers through his short hair. "your never dying for me again.. Okay?" he said lifting my chin up with this fingers so I would look him in the eyes. "I can't promise anything" I smirked.
"your a pain in my ass" he smirked back.
"and you love me for it" he only nodded and placed a kiss on my forehead. As he pulled away(daughter's name) came running at the both of us making Clint pick her up. He did and held her on his hip. (daughter's name) pulled on the collar of my flannel pulling me closer to her and Clint. "got my two favorite girls back" he said putting his hand on the back of me neck pulling me to him. He pressed his forehead to mine as our daughter put one of her small arms around me and other on Clint hugging us both.
Clint got his happy ending after all. Home is were the heart is they say but if you ask him he'd say as long as he had his little girl and me he's home.
'Tis the Season: Holiday Special
Day 22 - Clint Barton - what the holidays might look like with Clint Barton. The holidays with Clint are spent at home on your quaint little farm and you honestly love the farm life and love how beautiful the farm gets when it's covered in snow. You enjoy tacking up your horses and going out to cut down one of the many pine trees on your land to use as your Christmas tree. Once the tree is up, you enjoy some time by the fire and enjoy some yummy snacks. One of your favorite things to do is going into town and stopping at the local market to pick ingredients to make some homemade pizzas to enjoy with your Christmas movie marathon.
