I just had an thought about an Azutara Au, and I wanted to get your opinion. It’s just the bare bones of an idea for now though.

The character Sherlock Homes has had (in its various interaction) one main rival. That being Professor Jim Moriarity. Him being one of Holmes. Few true intellectual equals. Their rivalry was a significant part of both of their lives. Especially highlighted in the relatively recent Cumberbatch Sherlock show.

The idea would be Katara in the place of Sherlock Homes and Azula as Moriarity. Or vice versa, to put a twist on things!

So Azula’s consulting criminal vs Katara’s consulting detective (or vice versa!) rivalry that has an underlining homoerotic tension that erupts into full enemies to lovers is a tantalizing prospect.

What do you think of the idea?

Hmm, while I'm sure that this could be made to work with some adjustments and while I will always love Azutara rivalry, I'm not sure Holmes and Moriarty are great fits for their personalities. Like, Katara in particular, just doesn't mesh with the cold intellectualism of either Holmes or Moriarty. If anything, the closest character to Katara would probably be Watson.

As for Azula, I would probably struggle to cast her as a Moriarty-like villain. I know the first reaction is always to cast Azula in a more villainous roles, but you always have to consider the motivations for some of the more villainous deeds of the Show!Azula - loyalty and love for her nation, blind obedience of her abusive father, etc. These are very different motivations from Moriarty, who in Conan Doyle's writing is barely more than an intellectual thorn in Holmes' side.

The character of Holmes verse that I would cast Azula as would be Mycroft, a brilliant intellectual who lawfully works within a broken system. Azula doing the dirty work of the ruling class has some striking parallels with the Show!Azula.

However, this would make Zuko take the role of Sherlock, which is actually so ridiculous that I kinda want to see that happen XD

Anyway, it's a fun idea and I think it can be made to work, but to me the characters aren't quite well matched.

All of Us Strangers star Andrew Scott would be an interesting choice as a super spy. The Irish actor achieved widespread recognition for his role as Jim Moriarity in BBC’s Sherlock, for which he won a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor, but has since taken on a variety of roles, from Fleabag‘s resident “Hot Priest”, to a savage scammer in upcoming Netflix drama, Ripley.

He may have already played an extraordinary Bond villain in Spectre, but he certainly has the range to take on 007, too. Just saying...'

His head turns slightly but other than that, Sherlock's body remains still as Moriarity walks behind him to whisper in his ear. Briefly, Sherlock himself wonders what had possessed him to say such a thing.

However, the words he speaks are true. No one has given him a thrill, a chase, a game to play quite like the man before him. It's rather twisted, the way Sherlock wishes for their games to continue.

What would be the fun in catching him? This cat and mouse game they play is thrilling. Even if Sherlock would prefer if no one got hurt.

He does not flinch nor react to the hand pushing harshly down on his shoulder. Whatever reaction Moriarity is trying to get, he does not succeed.

Slowly, he turns around to fully face him, his own gaze peering into Jim's seemingly emotionless gaze. He knows better than that, though.

"I'm not in the habit of repeating myself. You heard me."

Finding his tools had been scattered meant Morpheus had little time to actually rest once his imprisonment was over, but the King of Dreams was not often one for resting anyway. Ironic, if you thought too hard about it.

Already he had retrieved his sand and helm, though they hadn't been easy to get, but the important thing was that he had them both now. Which just left the Dreamstone and he had discovered it was currently in the hands of one Jim Moriarty.

Dream knew everyone through their dreams and already, he was aware that this was going to be his most difficult task, trying to retrieve his ruby from someone like Moriarty. What he'd been using the ruby for already was likely to concern the Dream King - there was no telling what someone like him would do with power like that. Even more reason for him to get it back.

While it would be easiest to get to him in his dreams, the ruby had been brought into the Waking World with him and he would have to get it back that way, at least initially. And Morpheus was always one for dramatic entrances. Though he had to be careful about this particular situation; he was still weak, even with his sand and helm and weaker still in the Waking. Moriarity posed a great risk to him with his ruby. But it belonged to him and he intended to get it back.

It was not difficult for Morpheus to find him - it was not difficult for him to find any mortal - and while having Moriarty to himself was more dangerous for him, it was less dangerous to innocent people if he caught him in his own home. So he waited, settled in a chair in the dark until he returned home.

i can't believe i'm saying this but i found a mormor (sebastian moran x james moriarity, for the uninitiated) fic that i remember reading and really loving in high school and im rereading it, it is..... amazing.. i am just as enthralled as i was at 15, it's marvelous. it's a ballet au. it's not even an au really, just andrew scott jim moriarty doing ballet pre bbc sherlock. i havent even watched s3 of bbc sherlock i am the definition of a fake fan.

If you remember, a few months ago I published the story of how Sherlock and Benedict have changed my life, bringing me to this point of my life, making me decide to live and study in London, trying to make my dream come true.

Now, I need your help: I have to write an essay for my university. This essay has ‘Sherlock’ at its center.

Sherlock fans are incredibly powerful, we have create a whole universe by ourselves, and I want to make that universe the protagonist of my study.
