Roll up! Roll up! It's that time of year again: the nights are longer, it's all feeling colder, and the shops are all trying to sell you stuff. But here in the Sanctuary side of fandom, it's the start of the festive fic exchange!

Do you like writing fic?

Do you like reading fic?

Do you like putting unnecessary stress on yourself to make a wonderful gift for someone, just to have half of the fandom turn around and say, "Aaaaaaah, that's exactly what I needed to read right now?"*

Then this is the fic exchange for you! Today's post is the sign up post. Under the cut will be a list of questions. All you have to do is send me either a DM or an ask with your completed questionnaire then wait for your match!

This is open to anyone in the Sanctuary fandom, regardless of character/shipping preferences. When it comes to fic length, the minimum is 300 words. I don't really wanna give a max (because I know how the muse can get sometimes), but if we cap it around the 2k words mark that should be cool.***

💘🌹🍫Valentine's Day Characters and Prompts💘🌹🍫

Hello everybody. Since Valentine’s Day is next month, I would like to try something new for this year for my blog. I want to start doing holiday fanfics and to do that I want to start with this one. This is what I want to try out

RULES:

There’s a list of only fourteen characters and a list of only fourteen prompts for Valentine’s Day. That’s one character and one prompt per person.

It’s a random choosing of what you want written for a character and the prompt you want to go with. If you’re having trouble choosing, use the Random Number Generator to help you out.

Once a character and prompt have been selected, they’ll be crossed out so that they can’t be used again.

My inbox and DMs will be open from January 14th to January 31st. After that, the inbox closes until the next character list is up. If you still want to make a request for something else, please go ahead and do that, so that I can get a head start on it.

3) Least favorite canon thing about James Watson?

The fact that he died at the end of season 1? I have headcanons to fix it, and I know that the actor was just a guest star, but I still wish. I think he was only in 5 episodes but he has such importance in my mind, he’s more of a main character than actual main characters to me. That answer feels a bit of a cop-out. I suppose… he was judgy for a minute with Helen in Tempus. I wasn’t fond of that but it didn’t last and a century of time travel would be a lot for anyone to just roll with.

16) What's your least favorite ship for James?

I will check the AO3 tags! Wow ok… yikes. There’s a real variety which I was not expecting. I have been in fandom long enough I should not be surprised and yet I am. There’s James/Will which no, just no. I think the one I have to go with is disliking the most is James/Ashley which… I do try and be ship and let ship but Ashley is Helen’s daughter! and so to me that is like James’ daughter and so I am shuddering. Absolutely not.

8) What's something the fandom does when it comes to John that you despise?

lol well you kinda already know this as I used it as my “unpopular opinion”. The abusive wife-beating misogynistic bastard. That answer feels a bit redundant as you knew that. It’s the only one I really have though.

John is mostly just reduced to the Ripper. I have done that a lot too because it is such a pivotal storyline. It changed everything and then it lasted for well over a century. It is a fascinating arc. So I definitely don’t despise that but he is a character apart from that too. There was a before, and there could be an after.

24) What other character from another fandom of yours that reminds you of them?

Oh! I think I talked about this once before - Rumplestiltskin.

The whole “possessed by an evil demon” which is like an insidious inner voice that twists everything. I’m pretty sure I made a gifset about this once. Oh yeah here it is. The transition is a bit quick. I should fix that but hopefully the sentiment can be seen.

Thank you!! This was certainly a fun challenge - I always feel out of my depth with AUs so it was good practice (even if I'm not nearly as clever as you so have no idea how to extend it into anything half readable).❤️

She hadn’t meant for her greeting to her new neighbour to be quite so breathless, but he was tall and rather handsome and there was no doubting the way his eyes had lingered on the exposed length of her legs (venturing into the hallway in her pyjamas was a known risky move, but she’d figured she could make it to the rubbish chute without detection) which made her feel all sorts of ways at the end of such a long and exhausting day.

“John Druitt,” he offered as his lips curled into a smile, clearly fighting to keep his (so bright, so blue) eyes on her face as he shifted a bundle of groceries from one arm to the other; it did not, however, escape her notice how easily he seemed to carry the parcel against broad, broad shoulders and then she was fighting the urge to lick her lips as images of climbing him like a jungle gym sprung into her mind ( suddenly she wasn't quite so tired any more).

“Helen Magnus,” she replied, her voice sticking in her throat as a thrum of something delightful spread and warmed her (far too) exposed skin against the chill of the evening, “and it’s a pleasure to meet you, John.”

"Sanctuary" 3x08 is probably my favourite episode so far. 100 points out of 10, brilliant, outstanding, revolutionary.

Adam Worth. An amazing character whose intense grief over the loss of his daughter led to rage and madness. A man clearly suffering from a psychiatric disorder. Someone who is an open wound, who is real and terrifying.

All the Five flashbacks. All of them!! How they interact, verbally and nonverbally, all of the hints to what their relationship is. How John, Helen and James literally circle around each other in almost every frame. How James becomes more protective of Helen when the time skip happens and Helen and John's relationship is a complicated mess. How Nikola and Nigel stick together, exchange snarky remarks and seem to have some connection of their own. How Nikola and Helen sometimes exchange furtive glances.

Apart from amazing flashbacks, we have modern times, with Helen (exhausted, suffering from radiation poisoning, slowly dying) and Will (extremely worried about her, hovering, trying to support her and ease her pain at least a little bit). And it's Helen putting up barriers again, because she is losing control ("I am 159 years old, you've known me for three!"). It's their conflict over Helen's past, over this whole Adam affair and the foundation of Sanctuary network. How Will feels betrayed and angry, how they raise their voices and shout, but the second Helen starts feeling worse, Will is there by her side. Fighting for her. Refusing to let her die. Ready to give Adam what he wants if that's what ensures Helen's survival.

Helen and John, every single moment with them this episode, whether in the past or in the present - perfection, painful and tragic.

Nikola and Henry - I never knew I needed more of them working together, but, now that we have it, I absolutely want more. Dream team, if you ask me.

And last, but not least, the contrast between Will and Nikola in how they deal with what's happening to Helen. Will is more emotional, with bloodshot eyes and tightness in his jaw. Nikola seems more distant and rational, yet we can practically feel how he fights for her quietly, out of sight, behind the scenes, and it's Nikola who goes and finds the Sanctuary charter, who challenges Helen's authority, because his worry and his love for her means he has to force her to step down at least for a while.

In conclusion, "Sanctuary" continues to punch me in the guts with its characters and plotlines. Thank you for your attention. This show still owes me my therapy money.
