The Saint: The Well Meaning Mayor (2.12, ITC, 1963)
"Well, that's the best I can do."
"That's fine, fine."
"It's obvious to anyone who looks at you that you've been in a fight!"
"Mrs. Purdell, I'm - I'm sorry if you disapprove."
"Mr. Templar, I think you're both out of your minds."

Simon is in little england (the fictional Seatondean to be precise) where a mayoral election is#being contested amid accusations of corruption. the source of this swindling? concrete! it's a 60s concrete tv episode! happy days#on one side we have incumbent mayor Leslie Sands; a late developer as a screen actor (he'd only been acting a few years at this point)#Sands would have his own starring series in Cluff a few years later (like Wilmer's Sherlock Holmes‚ Cluff began as a pilot play in the#series Detective). opposite him is Norman Bird‚ made up to look older than he actually was (he wasn't even 40 at this point but like#Richard Vernon he seemed to be perpetually middle aged). another well staged fight scene and some unlikely high wire walking on a#construction site make up for a rather sad looking studio beach set and an appalling performance by an uncredited child who discovers a#crashed car ('MUM LOOKAT THISS'). the rest of the cast are ill served by a script which really only bothers with Templar and Sands#but it's not a bad episode by any means. a nice change of pace from international jet setting. more shows should feature concrete..

Christ is the most High; he is God over all, higher than the highest; he is, as King, higher than the kings of the earth; he is in the highest heavens, and higher than they; he is highly exalted, as Mediator, at the right hand of God: he is the mighty God, and mighty Savior; yea, he is Almighty, and therefore mightier than all his enemies, and the noise they make, and the force they use; he is stronger than the strong man armed; than Satan, and all his principalities and powers; than all the persecuting princes and potentates of this world; than Antichrist, and all the anti-christian states: yea, than "the mighty waves of the sea." ~ John Gill

[Uzzah] died by the Ark of God; directly, upon the spot... he died by the immediate hand of God, in token of His displeasure: and this shows that it is dangerous in matters of worship to act contrary to the command of God, even in things that may seem small and trivial; and though what may be done may be done with a good intention, as this was, yet that will not excuse the sin; nor are those who are the most forward and zealous in religious matters exempted from marks of God's displeasure when they go wrong. [The Israelites historically had fickle hearts;] if these breaches of the divine ordinances had been left unpunished, the lessons they were intended to teach might have been neglected. Uzzah’s death was necessary for a solemn warning to David and the people. By this severe stroke upon the first violation of the law, God impressed a dread upon the hearts of men, and gave a sanction to His commands that no man should attempt upon any pretence whatever, to act in defiance of his Law, or boldly to dispense with what God has established.

Introduction to 2 Timothy 3
In this chapter the apostle delivers a prophecy of the last days, showing how perilous the times will be, describing the persons that will live in them, and what will be their end; and in opposition to these men, proposes himself an example in doctrine and sufferings; and encourages Timothy to persevere, and highly commends the sacred writings. The prophecy begins 2Ti 3:1 the description it gives of hypocrites, formal professors, and false teachers, that should rise up in the last days, and perilous times spoken of, is in 2Ti 3:2-7. And these are compared to the magicians of Egypt for the corruption of their minds, the badness of their principles, and their opposition to truth, and for their exit, and the issue of things; they will be stopped in their progress, and their folly exposed, 2Ti 3:8,9 and as the reverse of these men, the apostle gives an account of his own doctrine, conversation, and sufferings; which he proposes to Timothy for imitation, as being well known to him, and as also the common state of all godly persons in this life, being a suffering one, 2Ti 3:10-12 nor can it be expected that it should be otherwise, since false teachers, who are wicked and deceitful men, grow worse and worse, 2Ti 3:13. And then the apostle exhorts Timothy to abide by, and continue in the doctrines of the Gospel, from the assurance he had of the truth of them, from the consideration of his having learned them of the apostle, and especially from their agreement with the holy Scriptures, which he had knowledge of from a child, 2Ti 3:14,15 which Scriptures are commended, partly from the useful effect of them, making men wise unto salvation; and chiefly from the author of them, being by the inspiration of God; and also from the profitableness of them, both for doctrine and manners, and especially to furnish a Gospel minister for the work he is called unto, 2Ti 3:15-17.
