THIS WAS SO CUUUUTTTTTEEEEE!!! i liked the way the author portrayed the genuine hell that being stuck at 17 would be. please get me out of here i want a fully developed frontal lobe. AW and all of the characters were super likable. truly so adorable i was squealing the whole time.

im knocking a point off for the romance being a littttllllleeeee rushed and the character descriptions feeling off (it felt odd that both pov characters categorized every single person into a specific race? i think its good practice to make a characters race clear, but idk if that applies to a random teacher with no dialogue). to be so real though i loved this book enough that it didn't bother me too much.

Imagine if Mina and Renfield figured out Dracula was in the house together and they teamed up to stop him. And then the next time the suitors + Van Helsing + Jonathan get back from breaking and entering, Mina’s like “Hey guys, we got him!” And they come in the house to see Mina and Renfield both absolutely covered in blood, and Mina holding a big butterfly net ringed in garlic flowers, inside of which is a very pissed off Batcula.

Hey, heads up, the next Dracula Daily entry (tomorrow, the 17th) contains more racist stereotypes of Romani people, and also of Slovak people. If anyone wants to skip that but still know what happens in the book, here’s a quick summary:

Jonathan sees some people drive up to the castle with wagons behind them. Jonathan runs down to the main hall, thinking that it will be opened because of the wagon drivers, but finds that the door is locked from the outside. Jonathan tries to call to the drivers for help but they don’t listen. Some large, heavy, empty crates are unloaded from the wagons, and then they drive off.

Johnathan was writing down a spell relating to animals: Animalis Nuntius. The spell itself would conjure up a small, insignificant animal of any kind. It appeared incorporeal and would listen to any message you would give it. It did not matter how long or how short the animal would remember it to exact detail. Once given the message, the animal would leave and partake on its eventual destination. It could move through objects, phase through them with no effort. Nothing would hinder its mission. Once it arrives at its destination, it speaks to the person through telepathy. The receiver is given the entire message instantly and will understand it completely; however, they do dissipate after some time. Johnathon took the scroll and placed it into a cupboard that was lined with copies of the spell, as well as another infinite supply of others. He breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, finally comfortable with the fact of completed work.

The room Johnathon was in was a large circular room. On the edge of the circle’s circumference sat mostly bookshelves and tables. The bookshelves were filled with research material detailing monsters (any race of creatures that did not appear to have an anthropomorphic consciousness), magic, races of people, and the history of Ferterra. On the tables were large pieces of paper ready to be turned into parchments and scrolls of magic. Under the table were baskets that were filled with smaller pieces of paper that were ready for the same process. Along the walls were illustrations of the anatomy of creatures and monsters: unicorns, centaurs, wyrms, drakes, and ecidna (snake people that live near the deserts of Arkania). They were in detail and showed their skeletons, muscles, tendons, and outer features, with short yet helpful tips on what each important body part was called and its function. A few feet from this outer wall was a second circumference wall. On here were much the same as the other one, with the inclusion of the stuffed heads of deer, wulves, and bloodthirsty unicorns. Lest not be forgotten the pickled baby krakens that were left in jars next to the shriveled elephant ears and portions of griffin feathers.

In the middle of the circle, dead center of the room sat a spiral metal staircase that led upstairs to more rooms, which held a small garden of mushrooms and plants that needn't sunlight. On the inner circle sat more of the same, but there served as a lounge area for reading and relaxing. Johnathon picked up a book that was labeled The Interior Works of our Killers by Evaticus Eichenwauld, which talked about how the predators of the world function (as previously mentioned: unicorns, krakens, wyrms, etc). Johnathon returned to his page of one hundred thirteen before a child’s eyes that screamed mischief, and excitement prowled from behind John’s chair. Her eyes were velvet purple. When relaxed, her lips would show tiny fangs exiting her mouth. Her hair was straight and white as snow, given the nickname Silver Snow by her mother. Her skin was a slightly darker shade than her hair, but not by much. She wore a red dress that extended down to her feet, which hid them from view on tiny red shoes. The purple undertones of his complexion have long since partially abandoned him. He had very well-defined cheekbones with a bit of a square jaw. The shape of his eyebrows and the tragedy of his life caused himself to have a slight scowl through most of his life. He wore a dark purple corduroy coat with a black cotton shirt with even darker dress pants. He had a visible age equal to a man being nearly forty.
