An urban legend that exists in Los Feliz is the Hawke Park Band. If you go to the park’s amphitheater after the park has closed at 10:30pm, there is a chance you might hear music. It’s always rock, and there is no explanation for it. Countless people have crawled every inch of that space, unable to locate any speakers that could explain the phenomenon. The other part of the legend is that any musician that hears this music goes on to have a successful career in music. It’s this part that started the tradition of Los Feliz High’s music program students sneaking in right before summer ends each year, to hopefully hear the music that could make their dreams come true.

Julie grew up with this myth. Hawke Park is haunted. She believed it firmly as a kid, but now as a teen, she knows that ghosts don’t exist. Probably. Because if they did, wouldn’t her mom… No, they don’t exist. So could someone explain to her why she's currently sneaking in with Flynn?

A “what if” for post 3x09. The hauntings seem to have increased so Nick breaks out his ghost goggles or the wraith camera and they catch Ace just chilling out trying to figure out better ways to communicate.

She thought back to that moment under the tree after their first day of school. How Luke had teased her about Nick to make her angry enough to get out of her own head, and how it made her feel like herself again. How he didn’t care about the anger, just the fact that he got some kind of emotion out of her. He didn’t treat her like glass. He wouldn’t treat her like glass. (I Hate the Way I Don't Hate You)

It took Luke a moment to understand what she was asking of him. To understand that she was telling him flat out to not change the dynamic they’d established over the last two and a half years, as if she knew that was exactly what he was trying to do. (I'm Standing in Your Line (I Do Hope You Have the Time))

“Hey, Julie, how comfortable are you around animals?”

Fun fact: Julie loved animals. Not just dogs and cats, no, she loved all animals. Except roaches. And mosquitos. And horseflies. Those could all die in a nuclear explosion and she wouldn’t give it a second thought. But the rest? Whether they had fur or scales or feathers or that weird slimy skin amphibians had, she was a fan.

Instead of answering him, though, she stepped out into the yard and approached the pen slowly. When she finally got to the tall wall, she held out a hand to the horse, allowing him to sniff her. His velvety lips slipped over her flat palm, searching for a treat, but he didn’t pull away from her.

Julie reached a hand up and gently stroked the side of his cheek. (chapter 1)

“Tell you what, Julie, why don’t you put your money where your mouth is.”

And this just got interesting. “Name it.”

“We each sing. Whoever gets the loudest applause wins. I win, you have to be my ranch hand. That means you help with chores throughout the day and help me with Dizzy.”

Wait. What? That was not where she thought he was going. “Why?”

“That horse hasn’t let anyone touch him since he got here, but this morning he let you. I’ve had him for two weeks now, and I haven’t gotten anywhere with him. You might be just what I need to get through to him and get him adopted.” He raised an eyebrow and held out his hand. “What do you say? Think you can handle a backwoods hick like me?”

Julie didn’t even have to think about it. She grabbed his hand and squeezed. “You’re on, Cowboy.” (chapter 2)

Saw this picture of the horse that inspired Dizzy in amazingly lovely @quirky-little-penguin-blog’s Midnights at Mona’s fic and just had to attempt adding Julie and Luke to it. I like to imagine its part of the moment in the first excerpt when they still don’t really know each other. I also felt the need to include the second excerpt because it gives a little more insight to the significance of that moment. But Also Also, KARAOKE BATTLE BET!
