Pfft random thought but honestly its funny how moominpapa and the joxter didnt like each other all that much during their younger years then their sons end up becoming best of friends ahjshwjshxmans
i’m trying to draw moomin characters and try new things with my style,, I finally get why people love joxter, look at this round cat he’s so silly and polite
i’m not most knowledgable on moomin, i’ve only been in the fandom for a little while now, but i’ve seen and read a few things. joxter has ‘forebodings,’ which, if i think hard on it, are likely just heightened feelings of anxiety and a worry that something bad is going to happen so he can avoid it. could be wrong, i don’t know every detail about it, i haven’t read the books.
but, i just like to think he has some form of actual future vision. like, he’ll see snippets of a future just in the areas where he would actually see the scenario play out?
small example. he’s near a great big tree, and suddenly, images flash before his eyes of the tree falling to the side, crashing down and crushing anything beneath it. he leaves the area soon after, and keeps watch on the tree. later, it crashes down, just as he saw in the vision.
the visions wouldn’t show him everything, mostly the main event so he can plan for what’s to come. so my recent thought with this was... has he ever seen something so awful, so terrifying, he was scared stiff? or brought to tears? maybe even was sick with fear.
Late night moomin thoughts are on the brain (ramblings below cut)
Ok so I have this rather elaborate headcanon for Snufkin's childhood; Joxter peaced out early on but left the hat as a gift. Snufkin was raised as a Mymble until he was 5 and so fed up with the crowded house and being treated as a girl (trans ftm) he runs away to live on his own. During this time he picks out a name for himself and presents as a boy! Mymblemamma entirely forgets about his existence but Little My recognizes him when he comes back to Moominvalley.
I have so many thoughts about Moomin and Snufkin's relationship but in my hc they sort out their dumbass pining after a few years as they both mature. I also have been thinking about them as older adults, Snufkin agreeing to move into a house with Moomin (though he still travels and is frequently not home) and it's a huge thing that he feels comfortable enough in his love with Moomin to be tied down in such a way.
I enjoy the idea of Moomin always being shorter than Snufkin until he hits a growthspurt in his mid/late teens and all of a sudden is taller than Snufkin when he comes back in spring. Oh also Snufkin has chronic pain and uses a cane as he gets older because I said so !!!
"Look guys it started out as a self-indulgent Juddler AU where Muddler is the Sun who has to be the Sun for like 12 hours and he only gets to hang out with Joxter at night and it's cute and sweet and dear goodness I thought about it too hard and it turned into a fully fleshed out AU about gods going through a major tragedy and trying to reconnect with normal creatures again."

The "about" of it has changed a bit, but the origin remains the same.
I'm in the process doing a soft reboot of the AU, making it into a fanfic with extra comics/art attached instead of a webcomic (I'll start posting the fanfic when I'm done with posting Down Below the Trench, however)
I'm looking forward to it! I've never stopped thinking about it and I can't wait to finally push the story out in a where I can actually make a good amount of progress on a semi-regular basis.
has nobody ever thought of how if snufkin represents independence and freedom due to his nature and characteristics while moomintroll represents comfort, familiarity, and home, both of them just inherently yearn for one another in a metaphorical sense
because moomintroll’s character arc is learning to be alone sometimes. he craves independence from his parents and those who coddle him, and eventually he achieves it. he yearns for independence, and snufkin embodies that.
snufkin is similar. he never grew up with a home, joxter/mymble having left him in a box as a child, and his very nature defies any semblance of staying put — he must wander, he must travel, and to do that he must not have many ties.
moominvalley — and, more likely than not, moomin himself — changes that, even if slightly. he will always wander. he will always crave a sense of travel and the freedom which comes from it. but at the end of the day, snufkin needs somewhere to return to, he yearns for it, and moominvalley, especially a particular moomin within it, provides that to him. snufkin yearns for home, and home to him is moomintroll.
