MIM Proposes the Creation of the Esequibo Federal Territory
Manuel Isidro Molina presents five key points to address the Esequibo Territory claim
Caracas 09/28/23. (PS). - According to Manuel Isidro Molina, President of the Popular Alternative Movement (MPA) and independent presidential candidate, during more than twenty years of Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro's governments, "there was neglect and abandonment of the necessary vigor to defend Venezuela's territorial rights in the Esequibo region."
He proposed on Thursday, through the reading of a document, five points that, in the view of the political organization he represents, would be necessary to address the Esequibo issue: the creation of the Esequibo Federal Territory. Review of political, commercial, and diplomatic relations with the governments of Great Britain, the United States, and Cuba. Strengthening the ethical and professional standards of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces. Comprehensive reconstruction of Venezuela, and finally, the integral strategic strengthening of Venezuela, which demands a genuine democratic change of government in 2024.
He pointed out that both Hugo Chávez and Nicolás Maduro's governments "have sought a sectarian management of Venezuela's foreign policy, specifically an exclusionary approach regarding the claim against Guyana and the countries that have supported this unacceptable pretension by Guyana."
Manuel Isidro Molina believes that responsibility also falls on those who have pursued a policy of "isolation, blockade, and diplomatic rupture towards the government of Venezuela," which, in his opinion, has brought disastrous consequences and where "the accomplices of national destruction are outlined."
In the document, they argue that these accomplices correspond to the "irresponsible political spectrum ranging from Nicolás Maduro, Cilia Flores, Diosdado Cabello, and the PSUV to Juan Guaidó, María Corina Machado, Henrique Capriles, Manuel Rosales, the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), and its smaller heir, the Democratic Unity Platform (PUD)."
Regarding the possibility that the issue of the Esequibo Territory claim could be used as a tool to bolster the image of the current national president Nicolás Maduro for the 2024 presidential elections, the MPA leader argued that it is a possibility that can always exist. "We believe that the country rejects and detests the Maduro government so much that it is irredeemable from any angle."
He added that concerning the recent approval in Parliament for a referendum on the Guyana claim, the Popular Alternative Movement considers it "unnecessary and can also pose a high risk to Venezuela on the international stage."
"If this referendum, brought about by the hair, invented at the last minute and supported by the so-called opposition factors in the National Assembly, is carried out against the national sentiment, it will be counterproductive due to low citizen participation. Therefore, we warn that this risk must be avoided," he emphasized.
Molina announced that, for now, they will not bring their concerns about the Esequibo Territory to any national institution, stating that their dialogue with the government is at the public level. "We have said that we do not meet with President Maduro; it is not necessary. We speak to him from the streets because the two fundamental factors of Venezuelan politics that have brought us to this terrible historical tragedy have the habit of negotiating perversely, and we will not fall into that dynamic under any circumstances."
