It seems the mother of a Mississippi boy arrested for peeing in public is putting her foot down in the case against him. The boy was recently handed a probation sentence but after viewing the terms and conditions, but his mother said she isn’t signing off on anything.
Latonya Eason’s son Quantavious was apprehended by a Senatobia police officer in August after the boy was seen urinating near his mother’s car in a parking lot, police said. Eason said she was handling business inside an attorney’s office and left her son in the car during the meeting. But after not being able to locate a restroom, she said he resorted to urinating outside.
Tate County Youth Court Judge Rusty Harlow sentenced the 10-year-old to three months of probation and ordered him to complete a two-page book report on the late Kobe Bryant, per NBC’s report. Why? No idea.
Additionally, Quantavious has an 8 p.m. curfew as if a 10-year-old has places to be after that time. He was also prohibited from the use of weapons and ordered to submit drug tests at the probation officer’s discretion, according to family attorney Carlos Moore.
“It’s just a regular probation. I thought it was something informed for a juvenile. But it’s the same terms an adult criminal would have,” Moore said via NBC.
Read more from NBC News:
Latonya Eason, the mother of Quantavious Eason, had initially planned on signing the agreement to avoid the risk of prosecutors upgrading her son’s charge, as they threatened, but she changed her mind after reading the full agreement Tuesday, attorney Carlos Moore said. The prosecution threatened to upgrade the charge of “child in need of supervision” to a more serious charge of disorderly conduct if the Quantavious’ family took the case to trial, Moore said. After advising Quantavious’ mother not to sign the probation agreement, Moore filed a motion requesting the Tate County Youth Court either dismiss the case or set a trial. A hearing on that motion has been scheduled for Jan. 16.
Senatobia Police Chief Richard Chandler said the officer involved in the boy’s arrest violated their training on how to deal with children. Eason previously noted that she was denied the ability to drive her son to the station because the cops insisted on putting him in the patrol car.
However, per NBC, Chandler said those officer in question are “no longer employed” and suggested other officers would be disciplined. Eason ialso announced plans to file a lawsuit alleging the incident was racially motivated.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A Black former delivery driver in Mississippi who says two white men shot into his work van and then pursued him in a high-speed chase last year has filed a new lawsuit against the men and his former employer, FedEx.
This is the second civil suit on behalf of D'Monterrio Gibson, and it seeks at least $5 million. The two men were tried for attempted murder and other charges but a judge declared a mistrial this summer.
Gibson was not wounded during the encounter on Jan. 24, 2022, in Brookhaven, about an hour’s drive south of Jackson. FedEx made him return to work on the same route, and that caused him to have “depression, stress, anxiety, loss of sleep, and emotional pain and suffering,” according to the lawsuit. It was filed by attorney Carlos Moore on Nov. 20 in state court.
FedEx spokesperson Austin Kemker said in a statement Wednesday to The Associated Press: “Our top priority is always the safety and well-being of our employees. FedEx denies the allegations and will vigorously defend the lawsuit.”
In August, a federal judge dismissed a separate $5 million lawsuit Moore filed on behalf of Gibson against FedEx, the city of Brookhaven, the police chief and the two men: Brandon Case and his father Gregory Case.
“The Cases’ alleged conduct is deplorable," U.S. District Judge Daniel Jordan wrote. "But Gibson fails to state a viable claim against FedEx for which the Court would have original jurisdiction.”
Brandon Case and Gregory Case are charged with attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy and shooting into the vehicle driven by Gibson, which did not have a FedEx logo.
In August, state Circuit Judge David Strong cited police errors as he declared a mistrial in the criminal case of the father and son after days of jury selection and testimony. A detective testified about failing to give prosecutors and defense attorneys a copy of a videotaped police interview with Gibson.
Prosecutors said they intend to set a new date for the criminal trial, but court records show that has not been done. The two men remain out on bond.
Days after the mistrial, FedEx fired Gibson because he did not accept a part-time, non-courier job that the company offered him, Moore said. Gibson said he had been in therapy and on worker’s compensation leave, at about one-third of his pay, since shortly after the attack.
Gibson was making FedEx deliveries in a van with the Hertz rental car company logo on three sides. After Gibson left a package at a home on a dead-end public road, Gregory Case used a pickup truck to try to block the van and Brandon Case came outside with a gun, District Attorney Dee Bates said.
As Gibson drove the van around the pickup truck, shots were fired, with three rounds hitting the van and some of the packages inside, Bates said.
A lawyer for Gregory Case, the father, told jurors that his client saw a van outside his mother-in-law’s unoccupied home and went to check what was happening. Gregory Case wanted to ask the van driver what was going on, but the driver did not stop, attorney Terrell Stubbs said.
The sun had already gone down. “It was completely dark, completely dark, and somebody was in the wrong place,” Stubbs said. “It wasn’t my client.”

Mistrial declared in FedEx driver shooting Mistrial declared in case of 2 White men charged with attempted shooting of Black FedEx driver 00:21
A FedEx delivery driver who said two White men shot at and chased him in Mississippi in 2022 has now been fired from his job, he and his attorney said Monday.
"I honestly feel disrespected," the former driver, D'Monterrio Gibson, 25, told The Associated Press shortly after he received an email from FedEx about his termination.
Meredith Miller, manager of global network communications for FedEx, confirmed Monday that "Mr. Gibson is no longer employed at FedEx," but did not respond to other questions from AP.
Tumblr media
Carlos Moore, an attorney who has represented Gibson in a civil lawsuit, provided AP with a copy of an email Gibson received from FedEx on Monday. It said Gibson's employment was terminated July 26, and the company attempted to deliver a letter and documents to him about the termination July 31.
FedEx fired Gibson because he did not accept a part-time, non-courier job that the company offered in mid-July, Moore said, adding that he did not know whether the company gave Gibson a deadline to accept.
"They can't tell me when I should be ready to come back," Gibson said.
Worker's comp, therapy, trouble sleeping
Gibson said he has been on worker's compensation leave, at about one-third of his pay, since shortly after he reported the attack to police in Brookhaven, Mississippi, on the night it allegedly happened, Jan. 24, 2022.
Gibson was not injured in the shooting or chase, but said Monday that he has been in therapy to deal with anxiety because of it. He said he still has trouble sleeping.
Brandon Case and his father, Gregory Case, are charged with attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy and shooting into the vehicle driven by Gibson. Prosecutors said they intend to schedule a new trial for the two men, who remain out on bond. A court official said the judge's docket is full through December.
Moore said Gibson had done nothing wrong before two White men tried to stop him, with one of the men holding a gun.
White father and son charged for allegedly chasing and shooting at Black FedEx driver
"He was simply Black while working," Moore said during a news conference in 2022. Gibson had said he was told by his superiors to run the same route the day after the chase, CBS affiliate WJTV reported.
"The following day, we had to go file a police report, and as soon as I was done filing a police report, they put me back on the same route. I did that for like a day or two until I started having real bad anxiety attacks, and I just couldn't do it anymore. I asked them for some time off, which I do have, but it's unpaid," said Gibson at the time.
In a statement earlier this year, FedEx said: "FedEx takes situations of this nature very seriously, and we are shocked by this criminal act against our team member. ... The safety of our team members is our top priority, and we remain focused on his wellbeing. We will continue to support Mr. Gibson as we cooperate with investigating authorities."
Tumblr media
Gibson reported that the encounter happened as he was making FedEx deliveries in a van with the Hertz logo on three sides. After he dropped off a package at a home on a dead-end public road, Gregory Case, then 58, used a pickup truck to try to block the van from leaving, and his son Brandon Case, 35 at the time, came outside with a gun, District Attorney Dee Bates told jurors last week.
As Gibson drove the van around the pickup truck, shots were fired, with three rounds hitting the delivery van and some of the packages inside, Bates said.
Gregory Case saw a rental van with a Florida license plate outside his mother-in-law's unoccupied home after dark, defense attorney Terrell Stubbs told jurors. The elder Case was just going to ask the van driver what was going on, but the driver did not stop, Stubbs said.
Grand Jury: Brookhaven Police "complacent"
On August 10, a federal judge dismissed Gibson's federal lawsuit seeking $5 million from FedEx, writing that the lawsuit failed to prove the company discriminated against him because of his race. That litigation also named the city of Brookhaven, the police chief and the Cases. Moore said he plans to file a new civil suit in state court, seeking $10 million.
A grand jury issued a report last month saying that Brookhaven Police Department officers "poorly investigate their cases." The grand jury, made up of local residents, considered more than 60 criminal cases, and wrote that the department is "complacent," "does not complete investigations in a timely manner," shows a "lack of professionalism" and "has a habit of witness blaming."

Race Played Role In Sentencing Of Black Child, 10, For Urinating In Public, Lawyer Says
A 10-year-old Black child in Mississippi who urinated in public in August was sentenced Tuesday in youth court to three months’ probation, a decision the child’s attorney says was influenced by race.
Quantavious Eason, who is in the third grade, was arrested by Senatobia police Aug. 10 after a police officer saw him relieving himself outside next to his mom’s car when the woman was inside an attorney’s office, according to family attorney Carlos Moore.
Given the circumstances, any child would have done the same thing, Moore said. He noted there was no public restroom at the attorney’s office.
“He did what any reasonable person would do: He urinated next to the car behind the door — not exposing himself to anyone,” Moore said. “He would not have been arrested, prosecuted or sentenced if he was any other color, race, besides Black.”
Moore said he’s baffled that an arrest was made, that prosecutors then pursued the case, and that a youth judge this week oversaw a sentence that included probation and requiring Quantavious to write a two-page report about Kobe Bryant.
Quantavious was charged in youth court with being a child in need of supervision, Moore said. The child is required to check in with a probation officer once a month for three months, Moore said.
“We are not going to appeal. He will not have a criminal record, this is probation. And he is a fan of Kobe Bryant, so he doesn’t mind writing the two-page report,” Moore said. “But, still, the principle of it — he should not have to do anything. He should be enjoying his Christmas holiday like the other kids.” -(source: nbc news)

Wandering the Wandle - Part 1
I was chatting with friends in May and mentioned that I was planning on walking the Wandle trail after seeing this article on MyLondon (I think Google pushed the article to me via their news service) - https://www.mylondon.news/lifestyle/beautiful-walk-named-one-londons-26781996 - I was surprised to find that other people wanted to walk it too! Before I knew it four of us were planning the expedition - although due to scheduling issues it turned out that on the day - it was just me and my good friend and fearsome Croydonite Andy that did the trail.
I made my way from my home to East Croydon station and stopped for a cheeky breakfast muffin and cup of coffee at the rather busy for 10:30am Wetherspoons pub on Croydon High Street.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suitably fortified we made our way along the High Street - past the remnants of busy commerce now left with shuttered up shops and occasional bright spots of casinos, betting shops and newsagents - like a parade of gappy teeth of habitual drunkard. Andy regaled me we talk of his past when as a teenager he would visit the small outpost of the Forbidden planet (miraculously still there) or the roleplaying game shop to spend his pocket money. We continued further down the High Street and past the sight of the burning of the House of Reeves shop in the 2011 London Riots.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We walked along the tram line and observed that Croydon was forged by it's transport links - the brutal dual carriageway and tramlinks cutting through it. Andy told me that Judge Dredd co-creator Carlos Ezquerra spent some time in Croydon during the 1970 and that it is thought that this inspired Mega-City One. We past some grafitti and felt like we were going in the right direction.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here it was the start of the Wandle in Croydon's Wandle Park - this was culverted in Andy's youth only to be opened up and the once dull park transformed into a haven for wildlife.
Tumblr media
From here we crossed the Purley Way and found Waddon Ponds (https://goo.gl/maps/LqDa1mds5GKCmH989) - these are delightful although the map makes them look slightly phallic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We found some juvenile moor hens hanging out and we discussed the state of politics. The evidence of mills were present.
The route took us along the Wandle - which was quite shallow and stream like - but looked clean and healthly - suburban houses backing on to it. Meadows filled with wildflowers suggested that we might not be in London anymore and in fact be in some bucolic paradise.
We carried on towards the lovely Beddington Park (https://goo.gl/maps/VfWuSASS7vgu757X9) - which was next to the Andy's school - WallingTon County Grammar School - I was particularly taken with the alley known as Bunker's alley for obvious reasons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rather pretty - a old stone bridge that Andy would run over as part of his cross-country runs and there was talk of some kind of imitation rite - an assault course type run that involved fording the river. We had to wait for the volunteer army with their wheelbarrows on a narrow bridge. There were geese and a fun island that Andy informed me the big kids would throw smaller kid's rucksacks on to to torment them.

Disco-Test・Francone Mussida (PFM)・Ciao 2001 (date unknown, sometime in 1977?)
(as always, thanks to @quantumabyss6 for helping with this!)
translation:
Let's go back to the guitar and go back to Premiata Forneria Marconi: Francone Mussida has listened, tried to recognize and commented on ten Italian and International records. This is the selection criterion: Meat Loaf to talk about the new American names, "Consequences" to discuss - about the gizmo - the possible technical evolutions of the guitar, Steve Howe of Yes to mention romantic rock, Jimi Hendrix and Carlos Santana to judge two different aspects of the superstar. To continue talking about the guitar, we proposed to Mussida an Englishman, Gary Moore (of Colosseum II) and an American, Al Di Meola. The Bee Gees, on the other hand, were only the pretext to return to the American market which PFM continues to aim for. Finally, two Italians: Riccardo Zappa and Chrisma, two different and opposite examples of music made in Italy, the first more personal, the second more imitative. Francone did not guess much: but this was not the essential. The disco-test is not a prize quiz, it is a different way of proposing an interview.
MEAT LOAF - Bat out of hell (from the LP of the same name)
-They sound like Yes, English rock'n'roll I would say. No, this is not Steve Howe's style... the beginning was very nice, but it has nothing to do with that anymore... now they sound American.
-In short: British or Americans?
-The enigma is there. But I would say English. Among the rock performers there has been a remarkable leveling, unless there is a very strong personality, it is difficult to judge his feet. I instinctively find a lot of energy in this record. But it's not my favorite kind of music.
-They are a new American group, Meat Loaf. Todd Rundgren produces them. What new names have you liked recently in the US?
-We have played in small clubs, and we have had contacts mainly with jazz players. The American new wave? Rock'n'roll doesn't change, it remains what it is.
LOL CREME & KEVIN GODLEY - Fireworks/Stampede (from the LP “Consequences”)
-Is it a soundtrack? Are they a percussionist? (listens very concentrated, editor's note). Who's going to write this music here? I cannot understand the purpose: however, it is well done. It goes from conventional classic to modern, Ravel, Debussy, there is moog behind it. He is a Moog player! The guitar? It escaped me, it seemed just a passing effect.
-It is the two of 10cc who invented the "gizmo".
-Ah, the one to prolong the vibrations of the strings. I have visited two types, one electromagnetic (when you strum you make a magnetic field vibrate), and one with current, which works more or less on the same principle. It's cool. In terms of experiments, electronics do much more, because we have to transform the guitar into a synthesizer. I don't think the guitar can evolve, I would rather say that its future is in involution, understood as a rediscovery of acoustics, which is the most important thing in full electronic boom. Especially young people have to rediscover. The latest evolution of the guitar was the coupling with synthesizers: beyond this, it would be better to change its name.
STEVE HOWE - Ram (from the LP “Beginnings”)
-Leo Kottke? I've heard some of his records. Is it not him? So, wait... there are two of them doing this kind of thing, the other one also played with Kottke. They use the guitar fully, like a piano, with the pick mixed with bare fingers, like the classical guitar: however the strings are made of metal, or are 12 as in this case, and then iron thimbles are used, always with the technique of the classical: singing and accompaniment together, for which the instrument becomes self-sufficient. Apart from this prerogative, the 12-string gives the idea of the spinet or the harpsichord. I really like this record.
-But you haven't told me who he is yet (listens to the next piece, editor's note)
-Yes? He seems too good to be Howe. Unless he completely changed his style, hey, he changed! And maybe he found his own direction, he should make more of his records himself. I didn't like the last of Yes at all. From the English romantic era, the one with the best ideas, and technically most capable, in my opinion was Fripp.
BEE GEES - Night fever (from the LP “Saturday night fever”)
-I do not know. There is a lot of feeling, but there are many doing this thing. The rhythm is funky, but more English, the melody is not so conventional.
-It is the best-selling record in the United States, where you will be going shortly.
-On our last album we highlighted the rhythm, a bit forgotten. I speak of compatibility: it is not that melody or harmony have faded into the background. However, we have no ambitions for top places.
-It was the Bee Gees.
-Sex appeal and youth, easy listening with a bit of Donna Summer.
JIMI HENDRIX - Midnight lightnings (from the LP of the same name)
-I would be tempted to say Robin Trower. But it should be Hendrix. It's a big disappearance, even though he'd already said almost everything. His authority was in having exploited the guitar in an unconventional way, not linked only to the blues, but as if it were an ante litteram synthesizer. Hendrix is one of those who influenced me the most, followed by Bob Fripp and John McLaughlin.
-This is one of the posthumous records, where the other instruments were recently recorded by studio sessionmen and added to the guitar track.
-That's why Trower came to mind, that is, an imitator. These operations make no sense: it is not Schubert's unfinished with the final twenty bars missing. No, here you just want to open everything that's left.
SANTANA - I’ll be waiting (from the LP “Moonflower”)
-Saying Americans is an understatement. The singer is good, there is a good feeling. I expect a guitar or a sax to come out... The guitar, here it is. But there is no room for the soloist, he is at the service of the piece. Only the general feeling is perceived, and can be heard only if he has musicality or not. And I'd say it has. It sounds like Santana, but it's not him, Santana doesn't do these things. An imitator? Uhm, I don’t think it’s George Benson, he is much more jazz. There is certainly a South American influence.
-It's really Santana.
RICCARDO ZAPPA - Sonata mediterranea (from the LP “Celestion”)
-(listens thoughtfully, editor's note) If I weren't the one to answer, I'd say he sounds a lot like me! (laughs, editor's note). It's a group of course, since it's an Ovation, and a classical guitarist with the Ovation doesn't exist. From the rhythm, but also, you know, the language of the guitar, it seems Italian to me. The impression is great. Are two playing the guitar, or does he overlap?
-Overlaps. It's Zappa.
-Riccardo, right? He's good, I've heard of him.
-Is there any new Italian musician that seems interesting to you?
-Walter Calloni, drummer, and Claudio Pascoli, saxophonist. I have listened to many new groups. We get dozens of tapes in the office, at the Zoo, there is an opening moment today, as opposed to a couple of years ago, but ideas are usually lacking. You return to the melody. Supergroups? No, Italy is not ready yet.
CHRISMA - What for (from the LP “Chinese Restaurant”)
-It’s a punk. Is it Italian? There are a lot of Italians who make non-Italian music. It tells me absolutely nothing, it communicates nothing to me. Who am I? No, it doesn't matter, it matters more what they mean: more than anything else, trying to keep up with the times, they feel young, current.
-Do you remember New Dada, when you played with Quelli?
-Is Maurizio Acieri, huh? I was thinking of him when I said "Italians". I don't know him personally, I don't know if this record comes from his own spirit of initiative or if it's a recording operation. You can say that he is convinced of punk: The New Dada were pieces of the Rolling Stones, after all.
COLOSSEUM II - The inquisition (from the LP “War dance”)
-It should be McLaughlin, or someone who mimics him, an Englishman. Good drummer, but he doesn't seem English to me. Is it Al Di Meola?
-He is the guitarist who said no to Genesis, Gary Moore, of Colosseum II. The drummer is obviously Jon Hiseman.
-Anyway, the style is McLaughilian. I can appreciate the technique, but apart from that I don't like it. It is really difficult to recognize an instrumentalist when you are faced with a progenitor of a certain type…
AL DI MEOLA - Devil dance on a Spanish highway (from the LP compilation “Jazzrocks”)
-This is Al Di Meola! Nice, but listen to the uniformity of expression. I don't know if you realize the difficulty of recognizing. It's not McLaughlin, though.
-It's really Di Meola. You finally guessed it! What about the American guitarists?
-I really like a group with two guitarists in unison. They are called Steely Dan. In Italy they are little known. They have great taste and emotion, without being super technicians, they are extremely communicative. I've heard a lot of things about Frank Zappa. This Di Meola is very good, but he is too cold.
-What is the prototype of the average American guitarist today?
-Difficult to say. Everyone has their own way, their own style. But George Benson, who I expected you to make me hear, is one who encompasses class, experience, craft. The prototype in Italy? Mah! I think... in our last LP I tried to play without amazement, working on the melodies, with some simple inventions... Anyway, I don't say I am the "prototype", because I still have some fundamental requirements: for example knowing how to do more "scene".
