A long time ago, when I was a fledgling animation major frustrated and angry with how all the big animation studios in my country had ditched drawn animation for CGI, I came across a crowdfund campaign for a series of steampunk-themed animated shorts, drawn by hand and directed by former Disney animator James Lopez. Desperate to help show that there was still a market for what I saw as a beautiful and expressive medium unfairly kneecapped by the very companies who depended on it to rise to the top, I threw some money at the project and hoped that Lopez and his team would someday see it to fruition.
A lot has gone by in, what, a decade? But now, coinciding with a new wave of indie animation online, the first of the Hullabaloo series has finally arrived.
I look forward to seeing the rest soon, as they are released.
That moment when Julia closed the blinds in her office (when Carmen popped by) was such a small and huge gesture of how much she understood and supported Carmen. Julia KNOWS how much Carmen needs to be hidden, and automatically does that for her security! It's like when your wife is considerate of you and will always, say, remember to bring extra snacks with her because she knows her boo always forgets to eat before an outing. Or other little things that make her partner's life easier.
And the SMILE that Carmen gives Jules when she agrees to help decode the relic... That WARM one that reaches her eyes... Carmen feels SUPPORTED by Jules. No questions asked!
They belong together. Seriously. Do not fight me on this.
I've had this boy's lineart done for literally 3 years now and his palette has only JUST clicked into place. I cannot describe how many times I futzed with the same color block layers over and over. now i'm FREE!!
Jules is a bit of a gambler because he is STUPID lucky. Like, "nobody understands how he's even still alive" lucky, and that's even before he really came into his own with magic. He's just a silly little guy! A silly little guy who's a completely normal bard!
