Julian’s heart thundered in his chest; blood roared in his ears. None of this was supposed to be happening. He’d had it all under control.
Until he hadn’t.
‘Tea,’ he whispered as she squirmed on the floor. Her skin was practically grey beneath limp hair. ‘Teagan! What have you done to her?’
The man chuckled condescendingly, stepping closer to Julian. ‘Nothing deadly. Yet,’ he purred, turning to Teagan.
Julian shifted to stand, but a gun appeared. Aimed at Teagan’s head.
‘Don’t try anything, Ferrum,’ X warned in a dangerous whisper.
‘What do you want with her?’ Julian asked, forcing himself to sink back against the wall.
X hummed in mocking contemplation. The reaction was meant to elicit a response, a flash of anger Julian couldn’t control. It might have worked, if Teagan wasn’t right there. If Julian wasn’t so completely aware of how she needed him.
‘The princess – oblivious princess – of a crime family,’ X purred, finally dragging his attention back to Julian. ‘There are so many delicious possibilities, don’t you think?’
Julian’s anger was red hot fire, and yet he forced himself to swallow it. Forced himself to meet X’s eyes instead of checking on Teagan. He would swallow his pride for her; do whatever was necessary to protect her as he’d failed to do so far.
‘Remember, Ferrum,’ X warned, an edge of danger in his voice, ‘I hold all the cards right now.’
‘Of course,’ Julian muttered, biting back the bitterness as he bowed his head. ‘What will it cost?’
X patted Julian’s cheek condescendingly, forcing Julian to ball his hands into painful firsts simply not to do something he might regret.
‘Now there’s the spirit,’ X said cheerfully.
Julian couldn’t wait for the moment he’d bring it all crashing down around the other man’s ears. Because he would, slowly and meticulously, just as soon as Teagan was safe.

I actually changed this story from a Spiderman fanfiction, but I’m still going to answer this like they were still in that universe.
I 100% think that Wendy and Teagan would get along. The two of them would love teasing Peter, and when they realise there’s something up with him they’d figure it out together. Teagan would be so heartbroken when she realises she’s keeping her own secrets from Wendy, but in all honesty she’d think it was for the best.
On the other hand, I think that the rest of the Harcrofts really wouldn’t have much to do with her. Jules isn’t nice in general, so I could see him not liking the girl – she’s too much for him most of the time – but their parents? I don’t think they’d really think either way of her. They’d still be charming and kind to her, but mostly because she’s a friend of Teagan’s.
As for Peyton, I think that Teagan would see her as an older sister type figure. They’d probably have some issues – Teagan was never great at school, and I think that while she can deal with Peter being smart, she’d always be worried about Peyton just because that’s the kind of person she is.
I think Jules might actually have had a crush on Peyton at one point. I don’t think he’d be that much older than her – if at all – and I think it would be one of the things that almost kept him back from the path he took. That being said, his parents never liked her. There was something almost too good about her. I feel as though she might have asked a couple too many questions at least once about them, and they wouldn’t like that.

Julian glared at his uncle and wondered if perhaps taking him out wasn’t actually the worst of ideas. His father might not actually thank him for it, but at least then it would only be his parents’ minds that he needed to sway, and not the other person who seemed adamant that it was a reckless idea.
‘I’m serious,’ Tom said, matching the glare with an icy look of his own. To most people, that look might have been enough to make them step back. But Julian had learnt how to deal with worse than a glare from a young age. From people worse than Thomas Harcroft.
‘So am I,’ Julian said simply, not bothering to look at his father as he heard the seat shift. They all knew that his father was on Tom’s side; that he wanted to keep his precious little girl out of the family business for as long as humanly possible. But for once, Julian feared his father was simply being sentimental. All logical thinking had flown out the window the minute the idea was voiced.
‘Why?’ Tom asked, head tilted a little to the side. It was the look Julian had seen countless times before; a look he’d seen offered to customers of the bookshop as if there wasn’t a danger that lay beneath the surface. A lie that not one of them had ever even thought possible.
‘Because she needs to know the truth,’ Julian said, trying to keep his voice level even as his hands balled into tight fists on his knees. ‘How is she supposed to protect herself –?’
‘We protect her,’ his father said simply. ‘Or do you think we’re incapable of that?’
Julian wanted to bite back, wanted to remind his father that there were still threats that they couldn’t prepare for. And yet he knew that was exactly what his father had been waiting for. An actual argument at the table would be enough to throw his motion out the window. While things were still civil, he couldn’t do it in good conscience during the family meeting. An old agreement that Julian was certain his father and uncle were beginning to regret.
His mother sighed, earning the attention of the three of them in an instant. ‘This isn’t getting us anywhere,’ she said, pinning each of them with a glare in turn. ‘We’ll return to it. Right now, we need to discuss what happens to Olivier.’
With great restraint, Julian swallowed down his argument. He forced himself to lock away the desire to share everything with Teagan because he thought forewarned was forearmed. There was still proper business to discuss, and part of him was grateful to be back on easier topics of discussion.

Criminal Gang Story Introduction
Harcroft Books had always been a place Julian didn’t love. He worked there for the simple reason his father required him to have a “normal job” so nobody would look too closely at the serpents sleeping beneath the roses. It bothered him that his younger sister seemed to love the place, however; that the bookshop was a haven for her when their family was so much more than that. Keeping the two worlds separate on the orders of his parents is something that he struggles with, especially when it might actually be putting Teagan into danger, rather than protecting her.
All her life, Teagan had had a very specific view of her family. They were hardworking, good people, and the reason that so many customers were loyal to Harcroft Books over the years. She had always been proud to call herself a Harcroft, much to the amusement of her best friend. One mistake shatters her world, though. A simple slipup and soon Teagan learns everything she thought of her family and their business is a lie. The Harcroft legacy is a much darker one than she could possibly have imagined, and a path she’d never want to follow.

If your current muse had to introduce themselves to somebody in one of those awkward introduction meetings, what is one interesting fact about them that they’d share?
Julian wouldn’t actually turn up to one of those meetings, yet alone share anything. However, if he has to attend one – for like cover or something – he’d say something ridiculously mundane. His interesting fact would be about having met a celebrity on the Tube or something.

Criminal Gang Story Relationships
Dione is determined to keep her little girl out of the family business for as long as she can, and she does everything in her power to keep the more criminal element of their life away from Teagan. However, when Teagan learns the truth all her little comments about the family business feel almost condescending, and Dione has no idea about the slightly sour taste they’ve left in her daughter’s mouth.
Julian hates hiding things from people he cares about and the fact their parents have yet to tell Teagan the truth is something that eats away at him. He tries to be a good brother, at least in the ways he can, but there are times when he scares Teagan a little; even more so when she learns the truth of his role in the family business. When Teagan gets dragged into things, it’s all a little too much for her, and while Julian may have wanted her to join them, he also realises that she’s not necessarily like him. While he can distance himself from some of the horrors by being worse than them, Teagan doesn’t have that. It’s something that frustrates him a little because he feels it’s a failing of preparation on the family’s side of things. He tries to comfort her with facts, with the truth of everything, but that’s not how to help her through it all, and instead it just expands the space growing between the two of them rather than repairing it as he’d hoped for.
Tom is very much on his sister-in-law’s side when it comes to keeping Teagan out of the family business, however he’s better at sensing when Teagan is snooping around for answers because he was that kid when he was younger. He tries to keep her away from things, but it doesn’t always work out so well. Balancing the kind-hearted uncle side of his personality, and the maliciousness that is required of his job begins to get difficult when there is no distinct line with Teagan any longer.
When Teagan stumbles upon her father doing his real job, fear of him spikes in her for the first time. The idea that his little girl might be scared of him is something that breaks Will’s heart, but he knows he needs to get her away and far from the scene in the hopes of protecting her even a little bit. He hadn’t wanted her to be involved in things, knowing that she was different to the others and having hoped that they could give at least one of their children an ordinary life. But, when she is, he needs to know that she’s in with them rather than willing to give them up because of her own morals.
The idea of Teagan joining the business is something that Julian butts heads with his parents about no end, and Tom. Trying to convince his father that they can’t keep her in the dark forever, and that she needs to start somewhere, is a normal start to the day in their house. That being said, Julian will acquiesce the point occasionally when his father reminds him that he’s not in charge, and how easy it would be to cut ties with him should the need arise.
Teagan and Piotr have been best friends since practically forever. One is rarely seen without the other, and he knows something is up with her as her family’s perfect little life starts unravelling around her and she tries to keep him out of it. When the truth comes out, he reassures her that she’s not like them at all, at least not in that way. She only tells him everything out of exhaustion one day, and is then terrified that he might turn his back on her because of it all.

Julian was bored. His current target, Juniper, was trying to reason with him. It had started with threats, with the promise of bigger badder men hurting him and all he loved. Then, it had been bribery. Now, however, Juniper was flat out blubbing.
‘You - you don’t have -’ the man hiccoughed as if that might provide him with some more breath ’- to do this.’
Jules sighed, picking up the knife that his current client had wanted him to use. Some kind of retribution thing that Julian himself really didn’t care for. 'You’re right,’ he said, toying with the blade.
Hope flashed behind the man’s eyes. 'I could - if you wait -’
Julian stabbed him in the chest, not flinching once even as the man gasped, eyes widening and comically turning to the blade.
'Patience… is not something I’m known for,’ he told the corpse after a few moments, shrugging as he got to work on disposing of the body as he’d been instructed to.

Rose was rambling, asking questions that there was no possible way Jules could know the answer to. In fact, he could barely remember the floral codename he’d given this target so much information was being unloaded onto him. All Jules needed to remember was how much Jim was paying to have this guy taken out.
Oddly, Venice felt like the perfect backdrop for it.
‘Sorry, Sir,’ Jules simpered in his best Italian accent. ‘I not know.’ He shot the man an apologetic smile as he set down the poisoned chalice – in this case, a cyanide laced cappuccino.
‘No problem, old chap,’ Rose said, patting Jules amicably on the arm.
Jules bobbed his head before hurrying inside, already feeling the relief of removing the damned itchy ginger wig; of disappearing into the crowd. No one would ever know he’d been there, and by the time the death turned into a murder inquiry, he wouldn’t even be in the country.
