Sugar Ray Robinson tending a crowded bar on Seventh Avenue (now Adam Clayton Powell Blvd.) between 122nd and 123rd Streets, June 25, 1953. He owned and operated several businesses on 7th Ave., including the bar/café Sugar Ray's, which may be the bar in the picture.

The original pilot for Lost in Space was listed as having a release date of September 8, 1965, though it was considered lost and not aired until some time in the mid 1990's. Unlike the first aired episode and the series, it did not include key characters Dr Smith or the Robot. According to the unaired pilot, the Robinson family left Earth in the Gemini 12 to colonize Alpha Centari on October 16, 1997. ("No Place to Hide" Lost In Space, TV Event)

Oh, we're really getting into it now because they're actually having Trina call Spencer out on his rapidly shifting motivations. Spencer initially sold this idea to Trina as protecting demon spawn from both his evil parents, then it was lull Little Miss White Privilege into a false sense of security while keeping an eye on demon spawn, now its "oh well she's not such a bad mother so I guess she's cool".
Mind you, the only thing that's changed from Spencer wanting to keep that evidence to now is that Little Miss White Privilege started letting him play daddy to demon spawn in return for his attention. I'm just glad Spencer's regression is finally text because they spent the whole summer playing that subtext like it was evidence of Spencer's "growth".
Nope, it's actually evidence of how fragile Spencer still is that all it took was feeding into his delusion for a little bit and he's back to being manipulated by his emotional abuser and the girl who violated his girlfriend and friends.

Book Review: The Square of Sevens by Laura Shepherd-Robinson
Tumblr media
A sprawling, smart, and labyrinthine tale about an orphaned fortune-teller named Red who's searching for answers about her mother in 18th century England. With a long list of characters, some of whom are wealthy aristocrats embattled in court over a large family inheritance, others who are from much humbler backgrounds, there was a Dickensian edge to this that was impossible to miss. It's an intricately woven narrative. Enveloping, with twists and turns and tangents that keep readers' minds spinning to connect the dots.
There are a lot of moving parts - what with Red's murky origin story, her cartomancy skills, the multitude of lies and deceptions, the changing locales, and the way she insinuates herself into the center of a wealthy family to uncover secrets about her mother only to find much more than she bargained for - but it makes for a complex and compelling mystery. A tad long, perhaps, but one that'll keep readers guessing 'til the end.
Many thanks to Edelweiss and Simon and Schuster for the ARC in exchange for my review.
3/5 stars

Jimmy Doyle
James Emerson Delaney known professionally as Jimmy Doyle, was a welterweight boxer who died later in the hospital after a boxing match with Sugar Ray Robinson.
In 1947, Doyle challenged Sugar Ray Robinson for the World Welterweight Title. Robinson had the advantage in every round except the sixth, when he was staggered twice and received a cut over his right eye. A single left hook from Robinson, thrown as Doyle was attempting a right hook, ended the fight in the eighth round. Doyle fell backwards onto his back, hard. As the referee started counting, Doyle raised himself onto his elbows, and tried to use the ropes to gain his feet, but he couldn't. The bell ending the round struck as the referee counted off 'nine,' so Doyle was saved from a complete knock out by the bell. His handlers asked the ref to end the match, as Doyle was in no condition to go on.
Jimmy was taken to St. Vincent's Charity Hospital immediately after the bout, where he failed to regain consciousness and died a few hours later.
James Emerson Delaney died in Ohio on June 25, 1947 at the age of 22.

The final episode of Lost in Space aired on March 6, 1968. Sadly, the series ended with the no resolution so apparently they are still lost in space. The episode marked the only time in the series that the Jupiter 2 fired a missle. Some viewers have noted that the Statue of Liberty prop from the Planet of the Apes can be seen in the junk yard. Broken Promises - Maureen Robinson/Dr. Smith, Judy Robinson, John Robinson
A/N: Day 12 for @whumpril TW: Mentions of DV.
Tumblr media
“What the hell happened?”    “Your father.”    Maureen’s voice is flat even as she watches Judy work, Zoe’s weak pulse had frightened her deeply and she speaks softly, her touch soft against Zoe’s cheek, her eyes tender as she looks at the other woman.    “She stopped him beating me... again.”    “He attacked her?”    “No. He attacked me, she... she pulled him away and he tried to kill her for it.”    Maureen’s voice softens as she looks at Judy.    “Look after her for me?”    Judy nods just once and watches her leave, knowing what comes next. John, the man she called a father, will be pulled in front of the colony leader and more than likely either sent away or locked up for the rest of his natural life.      Later Maureen returns, moving to tuck the blanket a bit tighter against Smith’s slim frame, leaning to kiss her unbruised hairline softly.    “Come back to me, please...”    Zoe’s eyes open slowly, reluctant to believe she’s survived even as Judy checks her pulse. Less weak, stronger by the minute as she rests, revived by both emergency surgery and a lot of hard work to keep her blood pumping, all lost blood replaced at last.     “Robinsons stay together...”    Judy’s smile is soft, her touch light at Zoe’s wrist.    “Welcome to the family.”
