I can’t get enough of your content! Love you guys! Could I request a fluffy fic of dancing with Aether (who’s your s/o)?

mild cop out and a self promo all in one? could it possible be anymore Me? I took the bones of this scene from a chapter in my book and just made it so theyre together and changed what they were talking about. it’s even more fluffy in the book, but the context didnt fit. which is now already HALF uploaded and needs more views. (by the way if youve read it, which you should have, send me reviews!) s/o and Aether are preparing to attend a ball and hes teaching them how to dance!

"Head higher, y/n." Aether commanded. "Elbows up." You stood in first position together, unmoving, for at least an hour. He said you couldn't even begin the dance until you had mastered the first position to his liking. Your body was aching, your feet were throbbing, and you felt like your neck was stretched so far from holding your head up like that all day, that it would just fall off.

"Aether, my feet are killing me. Can't I just practice in flats?"

"Do you plan on attending the ball in flats?" He quipped, his face only inches from yours. After spending so much time so close to each other, you had become well acquainted with the exact dips and curves and horns on his mask.

"Well obviously not." You sighed. He gave you a look and you groaned. "Fine. But can you just start teaching me the steps? If I have to stand in one place any longer I'm gonna start growing roots." Aether sighed deeply.

"Fine." With every step you took he was biting at you to keep form, and not roll your eyes, and not try and push him off because you were bored. I thought dancing was supposed to be easy. They make it look so easy in the movies. So why the fuck is it so hard? "Take a break." At Aether's words you instantly kicked your heels off and sat down on the floor at the edge of the room. You two were practicing in the ballroom of the church - he said it was the only place with enough space, where you wouldn't be disturbed, and that it's important you get accustomed to your surroundings. The room was absolutely nothing like the rest of the church - Everything from the floors to the walls to the crown molding was lavish creams and gold colors. The ceiling really did steal the show though - a painted mural of baby blue skies, with things that looked like a mixture between gargoyles and cherubs with blushing cheeks and bows and arrows in their hands. Pastel roses adorned every corner, black-feathered birds with long, sharp wings depicted flying all over the scene. It really was mesmerizing. You crossed your legs and took your foot into your hand, massaging it gently, so sore it almost hurt to touch.

"You know I like you a lot more when you’re not teaching." You stuck your tongue out at Aether as he leaned against the wall beside you, also obviously tired, but still somehow composed. You were jealous - Aether always looked like he had it together.

"My apologies. I'm just feeling stressed about the event, is all."

"I think everyone is. Has He really never used this room before?" Aether crossed his arms and sighed.

"I still don't know why we have to go to this stupid ball.” You switched feet, massaging the other one even harder. Aether simply looked at you.

“Because we were invited, and it’s in our home, and it’s going to be fun. I promise it won’t be like dance practise. Come on." Aether gestured for you to stand, meaning the break was over, and the second you was back on your feet they ached just the same as they did before. You dreaded putting my shoes back on, that you had left knocked over in the middle of the gigantic room. You nearly laughed.

“But I know how to dance.”

“This...” Aether started dancing around and shaking his butt like he was at a club instead of a lavish ballroom. “doesn’t count as dancing.” You laughed out loud.

“Fine. But then teach me the dance so we can be done. This is getting a little torturous.”

"All is fair in love and war, I guess.” You stood in front of Aether in the center of the room, his hand on your waist, your’s on his shoulder, and your other hands clasped together out to the side. Head high, shoulders back, chin up. His hands were nearly large enough to wrap around your waist entirely. Slowly music started playing again from a small radio in the corner, and you began the first few steps, following his lead slowly. “Elbows up.” He added, and you raised them. You simply watched each others eyes as you danced, knowing if you looked down to your feet for even a second you would be scolded for it. He sighed. "Step on my feet, it will be easier."

"Step on your feet? I'll crush your toes."

"You couldn't crush me if you tried. Step on my shoes. It will be easier for you to learn the steps, and easier for me to lead." You sighed, nervous, and Aether swiftly picked you up as if you were merely a pesky feather on his shoulder, and placed you back down so you were standing on his toes. Touching chest to chest, you mostly holding onto him for balance as he carried out the steps of the dance.

“Is it easier or do you just want a hug?” You teased, allowing him to basically carry you around the room. He smirked under his mask, exhaling quickly through his nose. You could feel his heartbeat through his chest, sure he could feel the same of yours. No matter how long you’d been together for, you still felt the same electric excitement every time he was near. Silently, and nervously, you went over the dance a few more times before he stopped, but didn’t let you down. You were struck.

“y/n, you know care for you very much.” Your heart beat faster in your chest. “I love you.” Before you could even begin to reply, he pulled you into a kiss.

What book is the most well-loved and well-read on your shelf? (stealing kat’s question lolol) i think the raven cycle?? i carried them all around a lot when i was doing classes in 2016 in my backpack when i was rereading them and my copy of gatsby was very worn and torn but :(( lent it to someone and have yet to have it back </3 also the things they carried by tim o’brien is also a Mess tm the spine is a wreck.

What book or book series got you into reading/creating your blog? the raven cycle got me back into reading and remembering i love books in 2015. buut then the foxhole court got me to change my url in 2016 for the first time since 2012 and go into a full lit blog for a while so aoishd i guess foxhole but wouldnt have gotten there without raven cycle?? the Best two tm

RESEARCH

I think a good place to start is by seeing what is already out there, so i can see whats been done and even maybe how they done it.

So i gave a search on youtube to see if anyone had already done an antman visual effects short, and i found a few different results, from random people on youtube, but nothing fancy. Although some seem to do a pretty good job at getting the effect close, like this video.

I love this one because it actually does a really good job of giving the feeling of being the actual atman size. Which i cant even begin to imagine how hard it must have been. I cant see myself doing something like this, because this probably took weeks/months of work, and i simply dont have the time to do it, also i have little experience with 3d animation to compositing. So yeah.

I also like this video, its a simply shrink test, but its one of the only ones i’ve found on youtube that does it like this. Although i think it could have been blended slightly better on the table, i think this is a great peice of work.

Those are the only 3 decent ones i found on youtube, like i said earlier, there isnt many who have done this effect, which is a good thing, but also bad because it means i have less to look at. Anyways, now on to the main one. I wanted to leave this one until lat because its simply the best. and also where i have got a lot of inspiration for the project from. This is an Ant-Man short film created by a youtube channel that i have been following for a long time now.

RED GIANT

Okay so, Red Giant are a youtube channel you have probably heard of, as they are quite popular within the Vfx industry on youtube, and if you havent heard of them, youve probably used their products. They create after effects plug-ins and the most popular one of theirs is by far Trapcode Particular. So yeah, theres a little back story to them, but anyways, on to the video.

So red giant creating little short films every now and then, and it happens that they done one when the film ant man came out, which is perfect because it gives me a bit to talk about.

I love this video, Titled Cant-Man, they have perfectly re-created the effect from the film and honestly done an amazing job with it. This has given me so much inspiration, and to top it off, They even have a BTS Video.

They do a lot of different effects within the film, but like me, they actually have decided to do an Ant-Man short film, without showing much of Ant-Man in his small form. I mean, you see him run up the barrel of the gun, but theres a big difference in the way they have done it compared to the film. and this is a similar thing to what i want to do. Achieve the ant man effect while not going super macro and having to attempt to CGI shots.

BREAKING DOWN THE VIDEO

1. Flares

One thing i have taken from this tutorial, is definitely the flares. Whenever the shrink/grow effect happens, there is a flare, which simply helps blend the effect into the environment and give it the feeling of realism, like its actually happening. Which was a big problem i found with all of these videos on youtube. It came across fake.

2. Motion Blur

Ive noticed that whenever the effect happens, its always extremely smooth, and thats due to the motion blur. yet again, another problem with some of the videos on youtube, they dont have motion blur which makes it stuttery and simply feel off. which isn’t a good thing. I talked to geraint about this for my sound sync project. i turned motion blur on for my MGFX and he said that i should leave it off. Because motion blur should only be used when there is blur within a scene. and ever since i’ve always been more weary of when i use it, instead of just putting it on everything.

3. Sound FX

I cant say enough, how important sound effects are. Seriously, my biggest pet hate is when i see an amazing visual effects video, or any video for that matter and the sounds are terrible. Its like eating a Kit Kat without snapping each stick off. you dont do it. (i’m bad at puns sorry, I tried) anyways. Im going to make sure that i take a lot of time doing sounds for the peice, because it could be night and day difference in quality.
