Look, it’s all very simple, which member of the Batfamily is the strongest/best fighter. Here’s who would win in a fight:
in a story about Talia, Damian in the best, with no one else really measuring up. Jason might come close, but even then, he’s easily defeated by his littler brother
in a story about Ra’s, though, Damian is second to either Bruce or Tim, possibly third to both. Jason doesn’t even count and simply can’t fight that well in a Ra’s storyline
in a story about the Joker, Jason is far and away the best fighter, and the only one who can really stand up to him without danger, except there is still danger. in these stories, depending on who needs to do what, both Dick and Jason are better than each other somehow
in a story about Deathstroke, Dick is the one who really holds his own against him, and while Bruce can beat him, it’s not without cost. the rest are at Deathstroke’s mercy.
Bruce can beat the Riddler almost without a second thought and, while if they struggle, all the family members can hold their own, Dick is the only one who can really go head to head with him, although Steph can cheat her way into a victory.
Steph is the best fighter against her father, in which no one else really has her skills, although Tim and Cass, as her backup, are somewhere in the realm of winnability. they’re necessary because, even when she wins, she will always in some way lose against her father.
likewise, Cass is the only true rival for Lady Shiva, both better and worse than her mother, with even Bruce never capable of taking her on unless she lets him win.
Tim is the one who can beat an evil hacker, unless he can’t, in which case it’s a prolonged struggle with Babs. both of them can easily deafeat each other if one of them turns evil, unless they can’t, in which case Luke is far and away the superior hacker.
in a military storyline, no one can really compare to Kate, who has all the military genius something like a year of training with them could impart, and could kick all of their asses, even Jake, who is better than everyone at being a military guy.
Beth, meanwhile, is insanely powerful against the Wonderland Gang, while otherwise almost incapable of fighting, and certainly not able to defeat any other Batfamily member. she can easily defeat Kate, though, when Alice is involved, who Kate is also better than.
Duke is the ace in the hole, stronger than any other member of his family, but only when it comes to unknown threats, where he just blows them out of the water, clearly demonstrating how much better of a fighter he is, even though they are still training him and he is not even a fully competent sidekick the rest of the time, except when he’s on his own, where he is more than fully trained.
Alfred can kick any of their asses, unless they’re going evil, in which case Alfred is a frail and defenseless old man.
but if Bruce, even evil Bruce, needs to be put in his place, Alfred can do it. likewise, Bruce easily wins against any of his children in the name of parenting, whether he’s right or wrong to do it.
but they can defeat Bruce easily if the story is about their growth and how proud he is of them, because then the student surpasses the master. or about how they’re protective of him, because then he’s getting older when they’re still young and healthy.
all older siblings defeat younger siblings easily when they’re being brats and refusing to do what’s good for them, but younger siblings defeat older ones easily when they’re too set in their ways and the narrative is ready for a change of attitude/morality.
if one Bat is trying to demonstrate they care about another Bat, then whichever of them is the perspective Bat always loses or barely wins in a roundabout (cheating) way, in order to demonstrate the frustration from their emotional impasse.
Dick can defeat any of them in protective big brother mode, whether that’s to save them from themselves or prevent them doing something he thinks is bad but doesn’t understand yet, but can be defeated by any of them when he’s angsty over wanting to be independent and recognized as his own hero, or feeling the need to prove himself.
Babs has the fight on lock if she’s trying to show them that they’re going at it wrong or prove the real villain is someone other than who they think, but everyone else can defeat Babs by exploiting her disability or trauma. (she may actually be the strongest, because while she often wins, there’s no narratively compelling reason for her to lose except to show that another character is turning evil or going too far.)
Jason can defeat any of them but really only defeats himself, thinking that he knows better when he just wants to be loved. however, they can also defeat him when it’s important that someone be alive and he’s trying to kill them, and it’s no real contest.
Tim is always the winner if he’s proving that they didn’t think something through and forgot that he knows their weaknesses, but always the loser when he’s trying to prove they’re loved or worthy, until later, when they apologize for trying to kill Tim again.
Steph wins when she’s absolutely sure about something, for better or for worse, but loses whenever she’s just trying to prove she’s a hero without really having confidence in herself.
Cass wins whenever anything looks like it’s hopeless, and can take anyone no matter how hard they prepare. but she loses when she misunderstands the context of the situation, never managing to correctly engage herself into the fight.
Duke wins if the power of belief is important, if trying hard and building something with your own two hands should win the day. but he loses if reliance on a special trait is thematically charged, falling to his own hubris as he realizes he can’t stand alone.
Damian is the reigning champion if he’s dead set in his own way of doing things he thinks are better, and the unquestioned loser if he’s dead set on his own way of doing things he thinks are better, all depending on who he goes to and why and what he asks of them.
Luke wins in a fight if he’s the last man standing, the final hope between the Bats and defeat, even against one of their own. he loses if someone being able to fly makes the story boring.
Lucius wins if he needs to, with tech or genius or surprise, and otherwise can’t even fight.
Helena can easily defeat anyone she’s on a teamup with, and yet can easily be defeated by the same people on opposite sides.
international Batmen always win on their home turf, unless they need someone else’s help, in which case they lose. they can hold their own but not win in Gotham, unless they need to help, in which case they do win, but at what cost. they grow exponentially more powerful, depending on how unimportant the mention of the fight is.
Selena always wins if it’s scary, and always loses if it’s heartbreaking, and wins and loses by turns in a metaphor for emotional turmoil.
Harley’s wins and losses are always attributed to a power greater than herself that she has no say in.
Terry wins or loses by default.
Ace wins in Ace stories.
and if anyone turns evil, they always win, against everyone, until they don’t, and then they get better or die.
hope this helps!

Awesomest of Them All 2.0
Part 13 of 13
Word Count: 1607
Batman x Batmom!Reader
You know what the bat family needs? Someone to pull them together and give them all the love they deserve. Who better to do that than you? An author rising to stardom in Gotham who catches the eye of a billionaire with your standoffish attitude at a huge social gathering. You are yourself and never pretend to be more or less than that. Plus you're the most stubborn person in the world, refusing to let good things go without reason.
This is a rewrite of my story Awesomest of Them All, I wanted to see how much I've improved over 3 years.
Bruce got a call, one that he had never gotten before even if he had always dreaded it. A phone call during a Wayne Enterprises meeting from someone demanding money and sending a picture of you tied to a chair. You had that normal fire in your eyes in the picture and it was obvious you weren't hurt but still no one wants their wife held hostage and threatened with a gun or worse.
Tim looks over Bruce's shoulder at the photo on the phone screen. His heart leaps to his throat and he pulls out his phone, already working on figuring out where it is you are located from the little he can see in the picture. He and Bruce were here in a meeting it would only make sense to call the GCPD and not run out the door to get you to safety. Tim knows Bruce though, always thinking everything through except for when it came to you. He would do anything in the world to keep you happy and safe.
Tim's hand coming to rest on Bruce's upper arm pulls him back to the reality that is that he cannot run out the door to your rescue. "You call Alfred, I'll call the GCPD," that's all he says and that's all it takes to set things in motion.
Two phone calls are made and those lead to two more made by Alfred and Damian who he had just picked up from school. Alfred calls Jason and Damian calls Dick, they are the only ones who get notified in the moment to go get you but it's enough.
Cass is on a date with Steph, they're the next to get a phone call from Tim, just informing them of the situation but making it clear that they are not needed at the scene. Stephanie protests this and tries to claim that you'd need Spoiler's help as well. You were as much of a mother to her and Cass as any of the boys even if only Cass was officially adopted. In the end the two girls go to the Mansion to wait with Alfred and coordinate things from the cave with Babs who is there upon their arrival.
Damian liked to think he still disliked you and could barely tolerate you. But even if he wouldn't admit it he was more scared on your behalf than he had ever thought he'd be. Despite him being horribly rude to you, you had never been anything but nice even if your nice included sarcastic comments to prove your point. You had helped him learn what a family was supposed to be like.
Jason gets a call from Alfred and he is changed and out the door of his apartment before the call is over. You were his Ma and he was your Jaybear, and he wouldn't be letting you get hurt. Alfred was the one person you had given his phone number too even though he had told you to keep it a secret, but in this moment he was glad you had.
This leaves Dick, who had gotten a call from Damian, telling him the situation and that he would be joining him at the warehouse. Dick was with Babs at the mansion so the two head to the cave where Barbara takes over in the computer while Dick changes and hurries out the door to go get you.
Things seem like they're going smooth when the three boys arrive one shortly after the other. Jason is already in and picking off the men in the surrounding area and getting you out of the chair when Dick and Dami burst in and start taking out more guys. You're safe and that's all that matters to any of them.
But then there's that singular gunshot and all three of their hearts skip a beat. Damian sees you slide the rest of the way into the next room but the other two just see the door swing closed behind you. None of them know where you had been hit and if you were okay on the other side of that door. But they can't walk away from the fight in the middle of it. Once all the men are down Jason takes off too you, not giving Damian or Dick the chance and leaving them to tie the guys up.
"Mama?" Jason asks, slipping into old habits in his fear.
"Hey Jaybear, I'm fine, it's just my leg," you comfort him quickly but let him take care of your leg for you. You'll have to go to the hospital as it's the only proper thing to do but he stops the bleeding and gives you a tight hug.
The other two boys come in and you smile and comfort them, telling them all how proud of them you are. This gets interrupted by police sirens outside. You quickly shoo them away and let Bruce know you're safe, knowing your husband would want to come after you himself at this point but you were fine. You needed to let the police take you to the hospital and make all of this look somewhat normal and not like a family problem.
You spend a few hours at the hospital, getting stitches and a brace since the bullet had ripped through your muscles, leaving your leg weak. When they let you go they push you out in a wheelchair and give you a pair of crutches.
Media personnel try to crowd you and get answers for their many questions. You shut them up with one of your classic, "I'm fine now leave me alone to be with my family or you will start your own newspaper to post stories about them and slowly put them out of business." It was a good threat that worked every time. If it didn't work then you just added in the idea of getting photos of their butts to add to the articles, titling it "the asses of Gotham"
You choose to spend the early evening watching movies on the couch with your family. Cass and Steph take their own chair to cuddle in, same with Dick and Babs. This leaves you to cuddle with Bruce and Tim and surprisingly Damian sits next to you, kicking Tim out of his normal spot meaning you had no choice but to sit in Bruce's lap so the boys can both sit next to you.
Alfred wished you well upon your arrival home, then returned to make dinner for all of you even if you tried to tell him to just order pizza. "No, miss Wayne, you were shot today and need a healthy meal," he responds much to your annoyance with him calling you miss, as though you were a child and your parent had called you by both your first and middle name.
All of you aren't far into the movie when you get interrupted by Jason entering the family room. You light up at the sight of him and before Bruce can stop you you're out of his lap and over Jason wrapping him in a hug. How you made it that far without falling due to torn ligaments no one knew but you were now in Jason's arms and he could keep you steady. You make him lean over so you can kiss his forehead before you make him come sit on the couch where you had been.
When he tries to object you give him that stern mom look and he obediently comes and sits next to you, and Damian on the opposite end of the couch from Bruce. Things definitely were tense between the two but you don't care, it's a start.
You finally have your whole family back under one roof for the moment. Your four boys, one girl and two unofficial girls. You loved every single one of them so much and were so glad that you were all together again. They all knew how much you loved them, and how you took time for each of them, the only reason Jason was getting extra attention was because he had been gone for so long.
It had hurt so very much when he had suddenly been taken from you. The pain of loosing a child wasn't anything you plus bear even if you had had too for years. You all share a nice dinner together then because you had all spent so much time together Bruce insisted that the city would be fine for the night with just the kids and that he needed to stay and make sure you were taken care of.
For the first time in a long time things were relatively peaceful for your family, even if you had a leg wound. You had them all together and would now be able to work with Jason and Bruce on their relationship and getting it back to a less tense father son relationship. Damian was finally truly giving you a chance. Dick was on good terms with Bruce, and he was happy with Babs, even talking about marriage in the future. Tim was helping Bruce run the company and he was brilliant at it, plus he seemed truly happy for the first time in his life as he had recently started officially dating Conner. This just left Steph and Cass who were about to graduate high school and were looking at apartments, planning to move in together despite almost already doing so since Stephanie always seemed to be at the manor. It wasn't a typical life but you wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.
The End... idk

Robin(2021) #1 Review
Tumblr media
Opening this comic with an assessment of a character that I have no choice but to agree with is a cheap way to score points with me.
Anyways, we caught heat for being unfair to this story since it was announced because all of us wanted it to be a Cass story since forever. And it became yet another thing Damian absorbs. I mostly ignored it because I’ve always been open about my disdain for the character and his fandom for nearly a decade. I never liked Damian because put these characteristics on a non-white passing character, they’d be dead inside of year. Then again I hate almost all of Grant Morrison monstrosities.
Regardless, new story who dis is in full effect here. We open this bad boy up with Damian gone missing and the Batfamily searching for him. Nightwing tried asking Damian’s old Teen Titans team and they obviously don’t know and probably hope Damian is dead. Tim checked Arkham Ruins(???) and Damian wasn’t there. I honestly don’t think Tim was trying to find Damian. Steph and Cass checked Damian’s farm and Steph concluded Damian has been there at least because while Damian may be a little shit, he loves his dog and pet bat dragon. Barbara checked facial recognition pings and his transactions and dude is an IRS nightmare.
Damian is missing. Bruce is worried that maybe making a violent murderous preteen Robin raised in a cabal of killers to be chief murderer was a bad idea and is worried. Barbara ensures him that they will find his son and we cut to Damian fighting Snake guy in some musty ass fight put somewhere. Because of course it’s a musty ass fight pit because while the story is well drawn, it never claimed to be not cliche.
Damian hands the scrub his ass and it turns out Damian is trying to earn a marker to participate in some tournament. I liked this panel.
Tumblr media
Not because of the artist flex of changing the art style, but it establishes Damian with a relatable hobby, reading manga. And not just a Shounen as you expect him to read but a slice of life manga which kind of puts his life in perspective. Also the lesson in the manga is reflective of what happens in the comic. Damian’s mastery is reflective of how he sees Hana. Hana decides to go beyond what her masters taught her. She decides to innovate and make her art her own. And that’s indicative of another flaw of Damian: Damian leans of the prestige of his teachers. He is the student that replicates the style 1:1. He wants to inherit Batman’s mantle, but doesn’t want to shed his teachings that he is proud of. And it comes down to this idea that Damian refuses to innovate and adapt because he is hiding behind his masters.
This panel saved the story so good job.
And after a talk with dead Alfred, it’s revealed that Damian is on this journey as a way to mirror Bruce’s journey into becoming Batman. It’s his way to iron his resolve without a catalyst to find a need to. It highlights his naïveté. He thinks that he can just simply copy the steps and get the same results.
Regardless what happens next simultaneously undermines the story or the impact of it.
Tumblr media
Okay, when you think of Martial artists in DC, you immediately think Batman, Shiva, Deathstroke, Black Canary, Bronze Tiger, Richard Dragon, and Shiva. Why I said Shiva twice? Because Shiva is the pinnacle.
So to reveal that three premier martial artists in the universe are not only not participating but they were paid off to not participate, cheated out, or were subbed in as an entry replacement, it undermines the promotion. It’s like going to a Beyonce Concert only to find out that between the words in small print Beyonce and Concert was ‘s Sister’s and now you are watching Grammy award winning Solange. Sure, it’s an unique experience but it ain’t Beyonce.
And also, there is no amount in the world that would keep Shiva away from this tournament if it’s as prestigious as it’s led to be. Let’s be real. If anything, it’s far more likely that she saw the roster of scrubs and decided to make some scratch.
Tumblr media
There are two characters that I recognize: Connor Hawke and Rose Wilson. I am not familiar with Connor so I am not sure if he is out of place. Rose is fine but y’know, scrub. I’m sorry Rose Wilson got her ass handed to her by Cass in the previous universe. There is no universe where I take her seriously in a fighting tournament to crown greatest fighter because the ass stomp was so thorough that Cass was beating Slade’s ego by proxy.
Back to the comic, Damian interrupts the host and basically is the fighting tournament trope of overly confident disrespectful guy with too many accolades which he will proudly tell you about them. What I like about this is the nice nod to the previous manga panel. Damian is not a great fighter. There I said it. Damian’s ability hinges on the idea that he was trained by the greatest killers and Batman but the issue is that name prestige doesn’t make great fighters. Too many times, comic books overly rely on this idea of fighting being a what you know and not being a game of not getting hit and getting hits in. It does not matter if Damian is trained by the League and Batman and it’s questionable as to how much Batman taught him in the first place. Hence why we see Damian with a sword or staff to compliment his lack of range. Damian can’t read muscle twitches like a Cass or Shiva so he has a normal reactive response and comics never highlighted his ability. The most impressive thing I’ve seen Damian do is catch a Batarang which is something I’ve seen Tim do. Damian overly relies on the idea that his teachers taught him to be the best when they simply taught him to survive in a fight.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“But why does Cass get away with it?,” you ask. Cass has this broken hax that is reading muscle twitch and immediately knowing the instant of what you are going to do before you do it or decide to do. Cass doesn’t need range because to her, you are screaming your intentions. She doesn’t need to block an attack when she can just parry. She doesn’t need to step back when she can just step forward while slipping all attacks. She is an autistic savant at fighting with an absolute defense. Damian is just another badass teen in a world of badass adults.
Tumblr media
And the humbling of Damian begins...again.
Pros:
-Damian’s new costume. I like that he is branching out and starting to own his own colors. It’s nice.
-Using a character flaw to make it a theme. I like Chekhov’s gun via teachable moment. In tournament arcs, what separates the good ones and the bad ones is the idea that the hero simply must overcome their opponents and not their own self. This is why Yuyu Hakusho is awesome.
- Great art and nice continuity. It’s nice that Damian’s past wasn’t ignored for once and they didn’t just throw his Teen Titans characterization down the tubes. Say what you want, but it was arguably Damian’s longest run in spite of his fans hating it. And contrary to what they believe, it was very much in character for him. My fear going into this that Damian would not face any fallout and lo and behold he ran away.
- it’s a good start for a Damian story. Say what you want, but it’s unique in that the little shit gets his comeuppance immediately. And not that just by losing, but by dying. Damian has killed before and readily justifies it because he never realizes the weight of taking someone’s life. He’s been killed before but those were painted in a way that he is valiant. Here, this is death caused by his own arrogance. He mocks a fighter for talking shit and gets murked while talking shit. He spouts names of his own teachers and expects people to care or be weary as if Rose Wilson and Connor aren’t there. It’s a tournament sponsored by the League of Assassins, Damian. They have been taught by the league too.
Cons:
-Look I get promotion. No promoter is going to undermine their product but the fact that this tournament reeks like ABA is killing my interest to give a shit. It’s a convenient caveat to say that, “Well, a character won this so they can have the title but the title doesn’t mean anything.” I know of regardless of whom wins this, they aren’t the best. Go ham or don’t at all.
-not enough emphasis of the importance of this arc. Why even have this tournament? What’s the prize? What’s even the point?
-While the art is nice, the action is framed poorly. I like physical action like this to be nearly choreographed in a way I can see and piece movement in my head. The two fight scenes we get are somewhat disjointed in that it’s just poses. For example, Flatline’s first kick makes no sense at all and I don’t get her follow up. Trying to picture the movement hurts my head and in an action concept like this, it’s best to frame action scenes as more than doing poses. Here is a good example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This only emphasizes the action and gets the reader to acknowledge that this a tournament of great fighters or at least a great fighting story.
All in all, do I think this story is off to a good start? Yes. Is it going to change my opinion on Damian? Hell no. My reaction to Damian getting his ass handed to him was this.
Tumblr media
The issue is that it never sticks. Damian can learn and be a better person but the development never sticks. It becomes a cyclical series of events because whoever writes him next will just keep writing him as this shitty entitled murder rich kid who never learns anything and gets validated somehow. It’s been over a decade and I’m tired of the same excuses of his shitty behavior. I am tired of writers validating it or excusing it.
Damian losing isn’t an outcome I care for because it’s wasted on him. Honestly I am more interested in Connor and Rose being there. I have no faith that it will stick nor does it undo the shitty idea of the character. I have never wanted to see Damian fight. It’s never been fun to read about nor has the impetus of his character emphasized the ability or style. Placing Damian in an Enter the Dragon style tournament lacks the pizzazz of Cass doing the same thing. For example, let’s try Marvel.
Let’s say someone pitches an idea of a tournament arc styled after Game of Death. Immediately you think Martial Artists non-powered. Danny Rand, Daredevil, Elektra, Shang-Chi, Pei and Colleen Wing. Okay, instead of giving those characters the honor, you give the story to Black Cat. Honestly, I’d read it because Felicia could sell me a documentary on grass and I’d buy it but the point stands, why does Damian have this Bruce Lee inspired Martial Arts story versus the actual Chinese or East Asian Martial Arts focused member of the Batfamily, Cassandra Cain?
But this has nothing to do with what could have been. It’s a fun beginning of a possibly fun arc. In that regard, it delivers but what’s the point?
Like I said, fun story.

How do you think Steph would have reacted if Tim had died when he fought Ra's? Sad? Angry? Would never date again?
I think she would feel very very very confused. A story where they never laid things to rest. Where they never got to sit down and talk about what they went through. Just guilt and regret and whiplash from not being able to tell if you still loved each other anymore. A giant fat what if that some freak took away for the sake of ego...
Hmm. Have half a meta half a fanfic anon. Here's what I would have liked to have happened...
Here is what Steph - aka you - knows in the run up to that confrontation with Ra's.
Tim and you have had a very bad falling out. You were stupid, trusted the wrong people, and you hurt Tim, in every way. And now, despite Tim openly stating and at times showing his affection for you, he does not trust you. If he ever trusted you to begin with. He tells you he is going to leave Gotham, tells you not to be Spoiler anymore, then for an unknown length of time, does not speak to you.
No-one has given you the time and space to talk about it. Tim won't stop for you. He won't wait.
You don't know if you still love him anymore either. But he matters. More than most anyone.
Dick comes to you, the first time you've spoken one on one, and says Tim is not well, won't accept help, won't speak to anyone. For some reason Dick trusts you to be the one to make a crack at Tim. You finds him easily, instinctively knowing where he's holed himself up.
He kicks you, rejects your help (rejects you), refuses to let you touch him, bemoans how much he wishes he could trust you (well if he wants it why doesn't he?), then leaves Gotham. It's too fast and frantic, he won't let you get a word in. He leaves Gotham. Leaves his home. Leaves you.
Radio silence. You don't know if he's even alive, let alone where he went. You throw yourself into the Batgirl suit that Cass left behind. You don't stop to think about what you did, what he's done.
You see Tim when you're doused with fear gas. He stabs you. Wonders why he ever loved you.
You try not to think about why you saw Tim.
Then he comes home for real. And the first person he finds is you.
You, the girl who has been working her ass off to redeem herself, to be better.
And he's... the exact same. He insults you, calls you useless, won't let you touch him. He hits harder, fights faster, and still won't talk to you. You think about that gentle boy who used to sit and do crossword puzzles with you. How much of this is your fault?
You try and correct that, in the only way you know how - being a pain in the ass.
And it works. A little. He teases you back, he smiles (genuinely), he admits he lost his way. He reaches for your hand. He says he's proud of you (does he trust you yet?) and then he -
Does something stupid.
You both tend to be stupid around each other. It's like you sap each other of brain cells. The moron tried to kiss you.
You don't think about how much you wish you had let him. Not good for you right now. That was smart of you.
Doesn't mean not good for you forever... right?
And then things are moving too fast you wish he'd just slow down and talk to you but he's acting like the city's about to collapse but he won't tell you anything and -
Does he still love you? He said he did. But then he left. You don't leave people you love. You don't have to love the people you kiss. You know that very well.
Does he trust you? He's never trusted you.
You need to talk to him.
He just came home and you need to talk to him.
He won't wait to chat though. He sends you on your way after you save his ass. The ricochet is pretty amazing actually Tim, as much as he denies it. You still don't really understand what's going on. League of Assassins want to hurt people Bruce and Tim love (you're on that list - why are you on that list?) so you go and defend someone you've never met (oh and Vicki too) and who even is Tam Fox? Where'd she come from does she know Tim well does she know about Robin does she -
Wait.
What do you mean Tim's engaged? To Tam? Who even is this girl?
Wait.
What do you mean Tim's dead?
Wait.
He lost? No. He doesn't lose. He'd only die if he wanted -
Wait.
You need to talk to him. You need to lay everything to rest. Does he love you? Does he trust you? Has he forgiven you? Have you forgiven him?
He's only just come home.
Wait.

Tim Drake: Sister, Sister
Tim Drake x Sister!reader
A/N: This beautiful idea was all down to @comicsgirlimagines who is truly wonderful and an incredible writer also (check them out), credit goes to them for their support and talks when writing this.
Thank you @comicsgirlimagines ♥️
>>>>——————————>
It was ironic, everything around was designed to perfection, to be exactly what you wanted and needed to maintain a positive existence as a reward for your past choices on Earth.
Yes, Heaven may've been perfect and brought you endless happiness but you were conscious enough to find the faults, for a start your brother was absent - which of course was a blessing, you didn't want him to join you for as long as possible, he had his whole life to live after all. It was entrancing, tuning in to the life events of Tim Drake on occasion, your little brother had certainly taken an interesting path - currently he fought with his new brothers, the League of Assassins were after Damian again and it automatically became a family emergency.
They hopped from rooftop to rooftop, battling various members with each vigilante fighting their own battles yet managing to lend assistance when able. However as you watched on, Red Robin seemed to be doubled down - more assassins were upcoming and he was the first standing in their way. You began to panic, was there even a way to get down there?! You'd looked into such things before as soon as you learned of his hobby, sure you were dead but people constantly connected with the spirit world - such a phenomena should work both ways. Or at least it was a theory under construction at the moment.
———
Another down, then another, and another. It became routine, but with repetitive strain came exhaustion and before Tim could react he'd made what was soon to be a fatal mistake, he should’ve ducked the blade gunning for his throat but instead was a millisecond too late to react. His body falling short of available counters and it was then he realised, this was it - after everything, this was finally how he’d go out. Maybe it wasn’t so bad, he’d aided more people than he ever thought possible but surely there were things he’d miss out on like having the opportunity to become a father, get married or even see Gotham make progress as a city. Regardless, he had made his peace with that and he’d closed his eyes in acceptance ready for whatever awaited him in the afterlife.
It was a split second - he never thought the white light actually existed but it flashed behind his eyelids rather sporadically and suddenly the breath was knocked out of lungs and it felt as though his head collided with concrete.
"Jeez I'll be back soon, don't worry." His sister gave an exasperated sigh, hands on her hips as her little brother tugged at her backpack.
"But (Y/n)! Please let me come with you!" Tim pleaded, successfully halting her in her tracks.
"No way kiddo, you'll probably fall off of the mountain. But hey, no matter how far apart we are, I'll always look out for you. Okay?" She smiled, tousling his hair as he accepted her justification.
"You promise?"
"I pinky promise."
"Hmm, see you when you get back loser." Tim mischievously commented, his sister rolled her eyes with a sarcastic "Oh haha." before heading off on her rock climbing trip.
That was the last time he'd laid eyes on her, unbeknownst to him at the time. And yet, this light, this warm familiar presence brought back such memories - of that day, of the news, of the funeral...
So then, how is it that he could hear her voice so clearly?
"Get up Tim! C'mon loser, I don't know how long I've got!" It was dangerously loud, demanding almost and it made him consider how things hadn’t changed much.
Tim was coming to, clenching his eyes shut in order to adjust to the bright glow that shrouded the area as he sat up with a squint.
"Argh, (Y/n) what the-?"
The figure kneeling down beside him was easily recognisable, having not aged in the years that had passed without her but the concerned expression she wore was contagious.
"No time to explain, magic spiritual existence or whatever but please get up. Here's your staff." You pulled him to his feet, albeit Tim remained dazed with these developments and stumbled against your figure with a groan. His staff was pushed into his chest and it was only now - dream or not - he spoke his true feelings.
"I missed you, so much..."
“I know...” The sincerity in his voice only made you feel guilty, the accident wasn’t your fault but you still left him and that was a weight you’d carried since you’d died.
Tim was slowly adjusting, finding what seemed to be a brief flash of wings behind you but that must’ve been from hitting his head so hard considering he now stood on the opposing rooftop to previously. Recalling the last moments his hand shot to his throat, more than shocked when his fingers remained absent of blood and his breathing was perfectly normal ignoring the quickness of it, next he looked back to where he was standing beforehand only to find bodies of assassins littering the roof and battles continuing over the street.
“Am I dead?”
“What? No. I’m dead, you’re alive.” You quickly corrected with furrowed brows and a sigh, flicking his forehead as he pushed your hand away in retaliation.
Although he paused, the familiarity of sibling like antics hitting him with an unwanted wave of nostalgia and he looked at you again - really looked. Saw past the golden glow, saw past the perfect skin and any evidence of scathes or aging. It was you but ethereal, you weren’t alive, you weren’t staying and you definitely weren’t coming back to life. That was what made him embrace you, arms wrapping around your torso so tightly that if alive then breathing would be a problem but you didn’t care, his face buried in your hair whilst you held back emotional whimpers. For however long you had been gifted, you’d say goodbye properly this time.
“I’m sorry for breaking my promise, so sorry, please please forgive me Tim -“
“Yo-you didn’t break it idiot.” It was such a soft whisper, an attempt to comfort you even if he didn’t understand your reasoning for profuse apologies.
“I didn’t come home, I left you alone and that’s the worst thing I could’ve done as your sister!” You defended, justifying your beliefs and pulling away from Tim who offered a soft smile amidst his watery eyes.
“You promised that no matter how far apart we are, you’d always look out for me and you have. (Y/n) you saved my life just now - how many people have the willpower to come back from the grave to do that? But you did that for me, you kept your promise.” Tim assured, wiping your tears away before hugging you once more.
“I’m proud of you y’know, kicking names and taking ass.” You weakly laughed, parting to punch his shoulder once regaining your composure.
“So you keep up with the times in the afterlife huh?”
“It gets boring up there okay? Speaking of, you should get back to fighting beside your family - who I love by the way.” You happily informed, gesturing over time the members of the Batfamily fighting various battles with a sad knowing smile.
Tim noticed the sorrow in your irises, the way you turned back to him like it was the last time you’d be with each other and it probably was but he simply sighed and placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder.
“You’re still my favourite sibling and as such I guess I should take your advice.” Tim softly commented and with an understanding nod a bright light engulfed his form once more.
This time he’d landed in the most heated area of the fight, landing executed perfectly with an immense rupture of light knocking out every enemy on impact. Tim stood, his family turning to him awestruck at the amount of unfathomable controlled power that originated from his form and how exactly he’d seemingly beamed over out of thin air.
“Later Timbers, and by the way I think you should stop crushing on Steph and ask her out already.” Your voice remained, albeit fleeting, as was your figure standing beside him overlooking your handiwork.
“Wha- you can’t know all of my business zombie!” He went to knock your upper arm, fingers phasing straight through your body and you both mirrored sympathetic expressions, a knowing and meaningful exchange enough to say what words couldn’t.
“I’m so happy for you Tim, stay alive okay?” And with that your figure faded into blissful golden stardust that spiralled into wind up toward the matte sky until they’d disappeared from Tim’s line of sight.
“Goodbye (Y/n)...”
——
“What was that out there Tim? A new gadget?” Bruce questioned his former partner once they returned to the Batcave whilst Tim got out his phone with an absentminded smile.
“My sister.”
“You have a sister, why didn’t you ever mention it?” Dick now inquired, walking in step beside him.
“Because you’d want to meet her and that’s, that’s impossible but her name was (Y/n). Here, this was us a few years ago.” Tim answered honestly, the implications easily read by his family who remained respectfully quiet until Tim handed Dick his phone which displayed a picture of the two of you. The others gathering around out of curiosity.
“Damn she’s hot.” Jason casually commented, reviving a facepalm from Cass and chiding from an irritated Damian.
“Todd, that’s completely irrelevent!”
“She has standards Jay sorry, but, she really likes you guys.” Tim smugly replied, his last words laced with underlying gratitude whilst Jason received over dramatic ‘ooohs’ from the rest of the family after that smart burn. Although Tim saw the contentment on each of them, that despite not knowing you, they had your blessing as his new family which was a very sacred thing in their opinion.
Once he’d regained his own space, he began typing a message he never thought he’d write until after your encounter.
Tim: [Hey Steph, I’ve been told I need to act on things so I was wondering if you wanted to go out this weekend? Not in costume, just as you and I.]
Stephanie: [About time Tim, who do I have to thank for your sudden confidence haha?]
Tim gave a relieved smile at the positive reply, looking up to the sky before asking with a proud yet considerate tone.
“You happy now?”
He would’ve said the sun broke through the cloudy sky of Gotham for a few seconds, golden rays bathing the Manor grounds and his skin - but that was probably unrelated coincidence...

Training
Day 6 of RobRae Week 2019:
Part 1 here
--
Damian sneered as he unsheathed his sword and pounced towards the mage’s back, easily rolling out of the way as she sent a wide disk of magic his way. He anticipated as Cass jumped from her spot and sprung to the left, an unfriendly string of Arabic slipping out of him as Raven’s powers flipped him.
The boy let out a huff as he landed on his back, immediately jumping back to his feet as Dick’s voice filled the air, “GO RAE!”
Raven glanced to where he was watching, hesitating for a beat too quick. Her eyes widened and she moved with her shadows, narrowly avoid a fist to the nose and a blade to the stomach. She stumbled for half a second, just barely recovering as the two tiniest Bats lunged at her.
She twirled, bringing her forearm up as Cass punched the magic shield that formed to cover the mystic’s face, hitting so hard that she ricocheted back a few feet. Raven used the momentum to jump back, not able to stop Damian from landing a hit to her shoulder.
A pause as she stumbled and slid against the shadows again, then Jason cried out, “KICK HER ASS, DAMI!”
For once the bird seemed inclined to listen to him.
Raven bounced back, easily shifting her weight side to side as she dodged his sword the best she could. Her senses went on even higher alert as Cass vanished from her sight and her spread attention got her a shallow slice just above her knee.
The demoness flew a few inches off the ground and dodged another kick, delivering a punch that sent her and Damian in different directions. Robin easily shook off the hit and lunged for her again. Tim’s voice cried out, “YOOOOOO!!” at the same moment Babs proudly called everyone to notice, “LOOK AT CASS!”
Raven took in a loud breath of air as she dived through the air, but not before Cass practically landed on her, her elbow landing in a hit just barely above the ex-Titan’s kidneys.
Raven hit the ground and rolled, her hands encased in black the moment she landed. She rose up til she stood, feeling more than hearing as the two Bats launched another attack. Her magic flung out at the same time as Damian went high and Cass dove low.
All three paused, breathless and tense. After a second a low laugh forced its way out of the demoness’ throat, the movement pressing almost painfully against Damian’s sword. She didn’t dare move her feet, lest Cass’ ironclad hold break her knees.
A breath slid out of Raven and she chuckled again. Amethyst eyes flicked from Damian to Cass and back.
“You two are very impressive,” She praised, her heartbeat still pounding in her ears. When neither mortal moved her shoulders shook as she held back her amusement, her thumb twitching as the magic dissipating off her hand. Violet eyes were bright as she simply said, “I yield.”
Both Bats immediately withdrew from her, although the proud spike in their emotions was telling enough. The mage grinned as she shook herself out, biting back a groan at the stretch of soon-to-be-bruises. Her healing ability worked wonders, but that didn’t mean the throbbing hits hurt any less.
Although, maybe that was just because she hadn’t fought in a while. “Haven’t had a fight like that in a while,” Raven muttered as she rolled her torso, finally getting the full effect of Cass’ diving act. “You guys certainly know how to coordinate.”
Cass grinned behind her mask and Damian scoffed, his chest not-quite-puffing as he wiped the sweat off his blade, “It was nothing. We do even better when it’s not merely practice.”
He glared at his sister as she elbowed his side, Cass’ head turning as Dick hopped onto the platform. His eyes were bright as he congratulated, “Y’all’ve really improved since the last time I trained here.”
“What is with this family and contractions?” Raven muttered to herself.
“I’m not gonna go full B on you two; you know where you slipped up. But,” He nudged his girlfriend’s shoulder, getting her to face him as he jogged a few steps back. Raven aimed a flat look his way and he grinned even wider, the tiny beginnings of a laugh line around his mouth making her heart flop.
“You were fighting a demon. And you see,” Dick suddenly got into a defensive stance, his shoulders shaking in held laughter as his love raised a few inches off the ground in return, “The key to fighting Raven is that her emotions are her greatest power--”
Cass jumped back half a heartbeat before Damian, the two narrowly dodging their brother as he charged. Raven but back a groan as she skipped to the side, a shield coming up to block her soon-to-be-sore right side.
Dick rolled over the shield and she let out a yelp as he grabbed her hips and dipped her, stealing a kiss. Someone called out a disgusted “Grooooooss!” from the stands and a second later Nightwing stood to his full height, continuing his sentence as if he hadn’t cut himself off almost half a minute prior, “--but they’re also her greatest weakness.”
Babs’ voice called out from the sidelines, “So that means we all can kiss her, then?”
He turned to give the redhead a look, his growing smile lessening its impact, “Shut up!”
--
After a brief and impossibly chaotic round of Rock, Paper, Scissors to determine who had to answer the bat signal, as well as Dick’s promise of a future massage, Raven found her way to the roof. She rolled her shoulders and watched as the signal faded from the sky, impressed and sore at how well of a sparring session that was.
Raven hummed and crossed her legs, smiling down at herself. Training had been… fun, all things considered. She felt like she belonged here among the gloom of Gotham and the organized disorder that was the Bat family. They all seemed to really like her; Hell, even B was acting like she wasn’t a burden.
It was surprising and nice. She wondered if bats and birds usually got along well in other situations too. Her eyes opened as the sound of footsteps on the roof alerted her to someone hesitantly approaching from behind. Speaking of bats…
Raven wordlessly patted the ground next to her. Steph’s eyes were bright as she eagerly took a seat next to the hero, “Hi.”
“Hello,” The mage’s smile seemed to put the blonde at ease, although her shoulders dropped at Raven’s words, “We missed you at training.”
She rubbed behind her arm, “Sorry, I slept in. Busy day yesterday, y’know? Trying to finish everything before you got here wore me out a bit.”
“Wish I was that lucky.”
Batgirl snickered, the answer obvious, “Dami wake you up as early as Dick would let him?”
Purple eyes met the girl’s curious sapphire gaze, “He camped outside our door.”
“He didn’t!”
“He did, but I actually didn’t want to talk about Damian.” Raven tried to open up the best she could, her face softening as she felt that same eagerness that all but radiated off the hero, “I wanted to talk about you.”
“Me?” Steph blinked, a flush heating her cheeks, “What about me?”
“Well, I don’t know a lot about you. I know that you’re a hero. And that you’re blonde and fought against B’s stubbornness until you could be a Bat.” Raven paused, her eyes sliding to Gotham’s buildings and then back to Steph. She shrugged, “That’s it. But you probably know a lot about me through my time as a Titan, huh?”
The girl sheepishly nodded, her eyes widening as the demoness nudged their shoulders together, her voice genuinely interested, “I want to get to know you, Steph.”
“Really?!”
Raven nodded, looking amused at how flustered the blonde was getting. It reminded her of the first time she met Donna and that was putting some charming parallels into the mystic’s mind. Steph smiled at the attention and tugged at a lock of hair, horribly aware that her voice just cracked. “I mean, um, sure! Sure. So, uh, what did you wanna talk about?”
Raven put a hand on the hero’s shoulder, seeing the way her chest hitched at the contact. She sent a wave of calm into the air around them, quietly commanding, “Breath, Steph.”
Her cheeks reddened and Steph covered her face with her hands, embarrassed. “Sorry, I’m just…”
“Excited?”
“Yeah, I’m a really big fan and I’m meeting you. But like, I know I already mentioned that.”
“Well,” The Azarathian rolled her lip in between her teeth, switching the topic to a more even ground, “Dick mentioned that you love waffles too, maybe we can start there?”
As if on cue the teen’s stomach rumbled. Raven lips formed a soft smile, her arm reaching back to rest her weight on her palm. This Batgirl was certainly different from the first one she’d met, and Raven really liked the change.
A pale hand pointed towards the window Steph had come up through, “Did you miss breakfast? I’m sure we can sneak something.” Steph looked positively entranced at the opportunity and Raven stood, casually adding, “I know Alfred’d cook for us if we asked.”
In fact, they didn’t even have to ask. The butler was carefully cutting his pastry dough when they walked in, wrinkles crinkling the corners of his eyes at the sight of them getting along so swimmingly.
“Ah, there you are, Miss Stephanie. There are Belgian waffles and hot syrup on the stovetop when you’re ready.” He aimed a smile Raven’s way, nodding a simple, “Master Richard also asked me to tell you that he went to help Miss Cassandra with a quick recon opportunity that sprung up. They should be back within a few hours.”
“Thanks, Alfred.”
“Anything for family, Miss Raven.”
He glanced once at Steph, who was already practically inhaling her plate and winked at his eldest ward’s beloved, “There’s also a possibility that I made a few extra waffles, if Miss Stephanie doesn’t get to them first.”
Raven smiled back, stage whispering to Steph, “He’s just the best, isn’t he?”
The blonde nodded, raising the syrup like a drink, “Hell yeah he is!”
Alfred didn’t look up from his crimping, “Language.”
“Heck yeah he is!”
The mystic snickered and let her magic encase a waffle. She took a seat next to Steph and the two fell into an easy conversation, going from the worst kind of syrup they’d ever tried to the best ways to get Batman to ask what updog was.
After far too short of a time one of Batgirl’s pockets let out a shriek, filling the room with a steady beep. She cursed under her breath and lifted the device to her face, her lips twitching down in worry as Tim’s voice carried over the comm, “Spoiler, I need your help. Half a block west from Robinson Park. Come up from the rooftops.”
Steph touched the mystic’s arm, a rueful hint to her voice as she jerked a thumb over her shoulder, “I gotta go…”
Raven shooed her towards the door, “Go on, help him. I’m gonna be here all week, you know.”
The hero stood, a brow raising, “I thought you were only staying the weekend?”
“I made other plans.”
Steph tried but couldn’t contain her smile, “Our girls’ night?”
“Exactly. But no time for planning now, go kick some bad guy butt first,” Her amethyst eyes were warm as she waved the Bat away, not able to stop her chuckles as the blonde ducked her head, doing a horrible job of hiding her blush. Her comm shrieked out again and a second later Steph was out the door.
Alfred spoke up from his baking, “You’re certainly fitting in quite fine with the rest of the family.” His gray eyes were warm, “I’m glad.”
Raven fiddled with the ends of her sleeves, “I know Dick is glad too.”
“Are you?”
A smile lit up her face again. Alfred hadn’t seen her much in the short day they’d been in Gotham, but she was smiling more than he’d ever seen her before. It was a wonderful change yet he still felt a stab of impatience that Master Richard was hesitating on the obvious course of action. But the butler didn’t let his thoughts show and Raven didn’t acknowledge if she felt any change in his emotions. All the woman did was murmur a soft, “I really am.”
She shook her head before she could get lost in her thoughts, standing to peek at what Alfred was working on. “Hope this isn’t rude, but what are you making?”
Oh, she was absolutely meant to be a Bat. The old man chuckled, “Master Dick mentioned you’re a fan of key lime pie.” He glanced from her face to the eight additional pie tins in front of him, “I’m just ensuring that there’ll be enough to feed the whole family and for at least one to go back with you to Blüdhaven.”
“I really appreciate it.”
“It’s no problem at all, Miss Raven. Did you have anything you particularly wanted? I don’t believe you’ve eaten too much today.” Her half of a waffle certainly couldn’t have been enough, not when she was sparring earlier.
But the mage only shrugged, an odd mix of calm and disquiet all but seeping out of her, “No, I was going to meditate first. Maybe we could share a cup of tea before everyone gets back? Just before lunch?”
The butler raised a brow, a smile in his eyes, “I’d like that very much.” His chin tilted towards the back door, “If you’d rather not be inside, the courtyard is bound to be quiet right about now. I’ll make sure no one disturbs you.”
Raven nodded and turned to the door, pausing at the doorway when Alfred spoke to her back, “Oh, just one more quick question, Miss Raven?”
She blinked at him, curious.
“If I were to send someone out with snacks later, would savory or sweet be best?”
The demoness chuckled, “Both?”
“Alright then, Miss Raven. I’ll leave you to your meditation.”
A half-smile filled her face and she slipped outside, retracing her route from her tour with B until she found the courtyard. Her steps were slow as she bypassed the fountains and carefully trimmed hedges, taking in the beauty that was Wayne Manor. The calmness reminded her of Dick and she smiled to herself, wondering when he’d be back. Her injuries from sparring were all but healed by now, but she still wanted that damn massage.
Shaking her head, Raven’s eyes lit up at the sight of a wooden bench, just under the shade of one of the many trees that dotted the manor. She took a seat and immediately went cross-legged. The empath took a deep breath, Dick’s name slipping out as a part of her calming routine and, a second later, she began silently chanting her mantra.
After what must have been an hour, Raven eventually opened her eyes, softly glancing around at the courtyard. Whether it was the muggy light of noon, the fact that she’d just meditated, or the fact that she felt Dick’s aura within the manor’s walls, everything looked cozier. She raised her face to the sky and let out a breath; her view was breathtaking.
Even when cloaked under the rainy gray sky that Gotham seemed to always sport, the plants were lush and the birds were chirping out, fluttering this way and that as they prepared for a rainy spring. Raven sagged onto the bench and let herself get lost in the quiet of the courtyard.
After a few minutes of listening to the robins’ songs, she heard the faraway click! of a door opening and felt another Bat’s presence. The empath waited until he was a few yards behind her to turn to him, languidly smiling up at the teen from her spot on the bench. He grinned back as pale hands patted the seat next to her, “Hey, Duke.”
He lifted the tray in his hands up an inch in greeting, “Heya, Rae.”
His steps faltered at the name, but she didn’t seem too annoyed by it so he added, “I mean, uh--” The metahuman’s smile was getting increasingly awkward, “Can I call you Rae? Dick said you didn’t really like nicknames, but…”
When his explanation trailed away she shrugged, a tiny hint of a smile on her face, “Rae’s fine.”
“Oh! Okay, that’s good,” Duke took a seat next to her, a hum of surprise escaping when a disk of black magic formed a table for them. He couldn’t bite back a snicker at the way her face lit up at the sight of spread Alfred had made for her; snickerdoodle cookies, peach slices and a croissant sandwich, complete with a thermos of tea.
“Shouldn’t you be on patrol? Or did Alfred rope you into getting me to eat?”
“I’m taking today off, actually. There’s a lotta stuff going on, y’know.” He cheekily smiled at her and Raven laughed, “Well I’m glad you’re here now. You gonna share this picnic with me?”
“If you don’t mind me--” He cut himself off with the look on her face, his shoulders losing any tension.
“Of course I don’t mind. I haven’t had a chance to really hang out with you yet,” Her head tilted as she thought of her time at the Manor so far. She pointed a peach slice at him, “This is the first real conversation we’ve ever had, don’t forget.”
Duke snickered as she stole another peach slice from him, “We should have more.” He ran a hand over his short hair as a thought came to him and Raven waited, but he changed the topic.
“Anyway, I didn’t want to… intrude, I guess? Dick warned us you aren’t the most talkative. And I know I’m not as loud as the others, but he figured we’d get along pretty well.”
Raven sipped her tea as he spoke, shrugging out, “I don’t make friends all that quickly. Doesn’t mean I don’t like talking to people,” Her eyes brightened and she winked, “But I always seem to get along with Bats and you’re not looking like an exception.”
“I don’t make friends all too fast either, but you’re cool and you’re family now,” Raven grinned at Duke’s words; she was a fan of this kid already. The empath shifted and began unwrapping her sandwich, “Well, how about we eat? Food apparently is a great way to start a conversation.”
The meta snickered as she handed him half, “I’d hate for Alfred to see we have leftovers.”
She ripped off some of the croissant’s top, tossing the pieces the birds’ way. Duke seemed to enjoy the relative silence as much as she did so they stayed quiet, listening to the eager chirps of the birds and the dreary sound of wind rustling the trees. Amethyst eyes flicked to the teen and Raven smiled at him.
“I’m glad you came out here. This is nice.”
Duke gave her a little smile, all but sagging into the bench, “I’m glad you’re here too.”
“Can’t usually get some peace and quiet around here?”
“Everyone’s on their best behaviour, actually.”
She gave him a look and he nodded, as if accepting the incredulity of his own statement, “Even Damian.”
The meta bit the inside of his cheek, “We just want you to feel included, y’know?” His brown eyes flicked to just behind her, his face brightened at the sight of his brother.
“Mind if I join?”
Duke raised a hand in a wave, “Hey, D.”
“Dick,” She let out a little hum and lifted her face as he pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. Her palms softly glowed blue and she pressed them against his shoulder, pulling out a bullet and starting to close the hole.
Nightwing sat down next to her, grinning at the impromptu picnic table, “You two seem to be getting along well.”
“I mean Rae and I are basically siblings now, so--” Duke laughed as Dick reached forward to flick his shoulder, the two sharing a look. Raven shifted, a flutter in her heart. She’d known him for years, she knew what Dick was planning even without her connection to his emotions, obviously. But hearing Duke say it was really making this trip real.
Raven took a sip of tea as her boyfriend laid his chin on her head, casually talking to his adoptive brother about something or the other. Her violet eyes met a robin’s beady gaze and she fought the urge to stick her tongue out at the little creature.
She wasn’t just a bird anymore. She was a Bat.
Her breath calmed at the solidness of that title, of having a damn-near traditional definition of a family, despite all that extras this particular one would entail. Raven leaned her weight against her love, listening to his heartbeat with one ear and Duke with the other.
Dick must have felt her realization through their bond but he kept talking, his right hand skipping down to intertwine with her left one. His thumb rubbed circles over the finger that would undoubtedly bare a ring soon and Raven hid her smile behind another sip of tea.

Hello Blu!!! Blu, I'd like to ask you, what if exist a flashpoint like in Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (in your mind/your point of view), for ex: What if Jason had been saved by Bruce, what would have change in this flashpoint paradox? What other things/people would have changed? What do you think of this? Sorry just a random question that came to me ^^ and i'd like to know your opinion! ^^
Hello,
In a flashpoint where Jason lives instead of dying… Alright, well, I’ve thought a lot about this. I even have a story on the parameters of if Jason had lived rather than dying, but that’s a bit closer to the Arkham Knight AU for what happened to Jay.
Anyways, B would save Jason, he wasn’t late, but Jason’s still in critical. I HC that B managed to save Jason but couldn’t save Shelia so that bitch dies in the very explosion she was meant to die in (a moment of silence as we mourn the bitch… okay back to business).
Jason is rushed into a hospital, coma, rehab, years of work to come back; because he’s not magic. Dick is now growing the fuck up and pulling his head out of his ass and trying to be a big brother to Jason as Jason struggles through PT. Alfred forces the family to see a shrink (JL or other), traumas are addressed rather than manifesting unhealthily. Alfred finally just had enough of this shit and said they would see a shrink; all because Jason’s brush with death scared decades off him, and B, and they both see the value now in maybe growing up and addressing the traumas. Also, B doesn’t blame Jay, especially not after he finds out about Sheila.
They address Jason’s trust issues, inferiority feelings, how he felt when they isolated him and were going to take Robin away from him. Dick gets to talk about his needs to grow up, spread his wings, be himself, and address his anger issues and maybe they’ll also talk about his relationship with and his feelings about Jason and how Jason IS NOT his replacement. B never develops his god complex, because God Knows That Man Is Merely A Man! It’s fucking annoying too, B feels that.
I think that Dick and Jay work on becoming brothers through Jay’s PT, movie nights, Titans actually properly meet Jay, books, books, more books, and Jay might even get to go to that school dance he wanted to go to. Even if he’s pushed into the dance in a wheelchair. Dick’s Titans, Garth, Roy, Donna, Lilith, and Wally completely support Jason’s role as Robin now. Yes, Jason still is crushing on Donna, but she’s out of his league and she finds it sweet.
In that time, I think Tim finds the Waynes, and I think Tim and Jay bond; tight and fast, Dick’s actually stepping up to be a big brother. Tim becomes Robin, Jason focuses on PT; resentments about that situation are addressed and Jason doesn’t have that festering wound of being replaced.
Tim is now the baby brother, and Dick and Jay adore him. They like teasing Tim, and drawing Tim out of his shell, maybe even doing normal brother shit, like beating up Tim’s bullies, rough housing with him, and even possibly formally telling Jack Drake to fuck off, Tim’s their baby brother. I think with that in mind, B legally goes about adopting Tim, and Tim is shocked at this news. They have a huge family dinner to make the announcement, and Tim cries like a baby in joy (No one will ever say anything about that, because Tim’s family).
Stephanie comes barrelling into the family (Jay’s starting to go back into the field; possibly under a different name, Red Bird, or Bluejay or something). Dick and Jason torture Tim about his crush on Stephanie, and they adore Stephanie. B tolerates her still, and maybe tries hard. Stephanie never becomes Robin, staying Spoiler, and she practically lives at the mansion. She trains with the boys, plays with them, and is never adopted because of Tim’s feelings for her, also B might like her but she’s so not his kid. Babs takes a real liking to Stephanie, and takes Steph under her wing, even presenting Batgirl to Stephanie when she’s older.
Yes, we still find Cass, or better Cass finds them, and she’s adopted by them. Babs is still Oracle. The Batfamily; whilst dysfunctional in different ways, is functioning, and they are recovering. B adores her; obviously and she’s his favorite child; the boys all know this and they adore her. The boys are also painfully aware that Cass can do no wrong in B’s eyes, and could probably get away with murder, they can never get away with anything.
Jason never clashes with Joker; and Joker is a quadriplegic, blind and mute after B is done with him. [I Know There are ways to incapacitate Joker without killing the fucker, so B can stay on his ‘No Kill’ rule and Joker is fucking gone from the depths of nightmares and on a painful trip to Hell]. Joker dwindles into nothing more than a nightmarish memory on Gotham’s psyche.
Jay and Roy become BFFs during his PT and Roy’s recovery, and get into a shit ton of antics still. Jason never makes that first kill, but is still reckless, he even acquires the All-Blades; though no one knows how he accomplished that. Alfred is the one who teaches Jay to shoot, it’s a coping mechanism to make Jay feel some form of control and safety. No, he does not use guns on his patrols, opting to stick to B’s methods and the swords.
Jason becomes a Titan, on a team with Raven, Eddie Bloomberg, Conner Hawk, Kyle Rayner and Koriand’r on his team. Jason torments Dick about this when Kori crashes here and Dick’s tripping over his tongue and feet around her. Tim just finds it hilarious too.
Dick and Babs never work out, but they stay friends, and Dick eventually marries Kori. Babs and Kori are great friends, and have a girls weekend once a month (Babs is Mar’i and Jake’s aunt, Raven’s still their godmother and Wally their godfather).
B and Talia never get back together, instead their fall out is of epic proportions when B finds out about Damian. The Bats take Dami in without questions.
Damian still clashes violently with Tim, Jason beats Damian up though and Dick comforts Damian. Damian still bonds closest to Dick, while Tim and Jay both leave the demon spawn to Dick. Tim will never admit this but he totally slept in Jason’s room for the first year after Damian moved in; after that first night and he was violently woken up by Damian’s attempt to murder him. Jason is Tim’s favorite brother at that point.
They adopt Duke a year after Damian, Dick and Jason actually insist on this; with Cass’ help, and Duke is dragged into the lunacy of the Bats.
Cass and Stephanie are BFFs, and they work closely with Oracle, they are Orphan and Batgirl, and together all of Gotham’s criminals fear purple glitter bombs, and ass-kickings. The girls are the ones who stumble over Harper Row and her brother, Cullen, and they quickly accumulate Harper and Cullen into their little group. B has no idea what to think about this, but everyone knows he’ll never say no to Cass.
Tim becomes a Titan, on a team with Kon, Bart, Cassandra Sandsmark, Zachary Zatara, Tanya Spears.
Kate joins their ranks, but is not permitted her firearms, in fact, she is the biggest clashing force in the Bats with B. But B, and the family are firm on their No Killing policy and their No Fire Arms. In fact, this is almost a fall out for Kate and B until the Bats have to save Kate, and they kind of make it clear that if she’s in she’s all in exactly how they want. If not, she’s no Bat.
Luke joins into the Bats too, though that’s completely accidental as he’s only interested in saving his father at the time. But he kind of falls hard for Babs, and sticks around. He’s also the buffer for Tim when it comes to keeping his secret as Red Robin from Tammy, though Luke vastly disapproves of tihs. But neither of them want Tammy in the Batfamily world; it’s dangerous. Luke and Tim also save Tammy from Bane’s venom, with the aid of Stephanie when that rolls around.
B marries Cat. No heartache or heart break there, they are married, almost a year after what happened to Jason because they realize: Life Is Too Fucking Short.
Jason gets into Princeton, he’s always at the top of his class and involved with athletics and vigilant life. He’s not a lady’s man like Dick was before Kori, but he’s good with the ladies, and has a lot of girls who are his friends. He’s not Mr. Popular but the world has finally stopped comparing him to Dick. Jason’s time in Princeton is huge! The family is extremely proud of Jay and they are vocal in their pride, even being the dorky family cheering at his graduation. Jason did punch Dick for that, and caught Tim in a headlock as Stephanie glitter bombed them both for having a banner there. Cass has the photographic evidence of this. Damian just clicked his tongue in disapproval before Dick glitter  bombed him too. Duke was Cass’s perch for the glitter bombing so, he was safe from all glitter bombs. Over all though, it’s good times.
Jason later goes to Harvard to study medicine, which he’s really excelling at. He wants to be an ER doc, to help people shortly after their trauma, knowing the importance of quick actions after extensive damage.
Tim and Tammy get engaged. Tammy is furious when she finds out she engaged a Bat, but she’s mostly upset he didn’t trust her enough to say something.
Cass does become a ballerina, and still takes acting classes from Clayface.
Babs and Luke eloped; a weekend in Atlantic City neither of them really remember.
Tim and Tammy break up though when Tim moves to San Francisco to be with the Titans more.
Duke goes to Princeton after Jay, and meets Claire, they start dating.
Damian becomes a Titan, he’s on a team with Kaldur’ahm, Garfield, Wallace West, Jon Kent (for whom he is falling for almost painfully), Djinn and Emiko Queen.
Helena was born at some point, she’s adored and the center of the family’s eyes, even Damian fell for her. He’s also a sucker for Mar’i and Jake (though he’d soon eat glass than say that).
Jason finds Terry and Matt, by accident after they lost their parents in a wreck and were at the hospital Jay. The DNA testing showed Terry and Matt were B’s kids, so he kind of brings them home. B goes off on Waller for this violation, and the using of his DNA to create the boys.
Babs and Luke adopt Carrie Kelley and Nell Little, bringing them into the Bats when they can’t keep Carrie out of it.
Life continues on though, and they keep going. They are a family. They aren’t perfect, the Bats are far from perfect, they still have epic blow outs, and fights, also huge feuds but they are a family. They banned together after Jay’s near brush with death and didn’t travel down that morbid rabbit hole of self destruction and god complexes of inadequacy.

Master List Update
I...didn’t even realize how much crap I’ve written since the last one >.< Also didn’t realize what a pain in the ass it was to click on when you’re on mobile. Here’s one that’s a little easier, I hope.
AO3: Fracture (fanart!); Distractions, Forward Momentum (Avengers)
Tumblr
Poison-Basil’s Art:
*iPhoenixrising (my wonderfully talented artist/writer babe literally made my spirit animal)
*Fracture Chapter 1: It’s Tim asleep on the bathroom floor where Dick and Jay find him (God, it’s amazing >.<)
Fracture Chapter 29: The intense almost between Dick and Red
BABE MADE ME A WHIRLYBIRD
*No Home for Dead Birds: (Eventual Conner/Bart/Tim maybe)
This is the amalgamation of comments from Fracture. A whole what if Tim didn’t forgive them and go back? Au. It’s right after the epic planning of Red Robin to keep Ra’s al Ghul from killing everyone Batman loves from the Red Robin series. Just a little bit of a twist on how the story would go if Tim didn’t stay.
Chapter I
Chapter II
 Drabble
 Chapter III
Chapter IV
Chapter V
Chapter VI
Chapter VII
Chapter VIII
Chapter IX

Tumblr Ask: Tim/Kon/Bart; warning for abuse of TTK, super-powers, and literally making Tim scream. All kinds of NSFW.
Chapter XI
What’s In a Name?
*Night Call (Tim/Jay Stripper Verse AU):
Based on an Ask. Just your standard Bouncer!Jay working at a strip club where Super CEO Tim Drake secretly moonlights when the stress of his life gets a little hard to handle and stripping gives him freedom. Of course, there’s probably identity porn and a little bit of smut.
Part 1
Part 2 (NSFW)
Final Part: 3
*DC AOB Attempt (Omega Tim/ Alpha Dick/ Alpha Jay by request):
This was seriously a try at the whole Omegaverse thing. I write it on it occasionally when I get asks and whatnot. Premise: Tim is making his way back to the Bats after a little hiatus after he lost the Robin mantle and brought back B from time.  He’s in Gotham being part of the crew when his suppressants might have…worn off and the scent of a male Omega in heat makes the Bats a little more than concerned. To make matters worse, he gets a little more than he bargained for when Dick follows him back to Titan’s Tower to take care of his pack’s Omega.
Smut ensues.

Batfam as a Super Band HCs
Not only are they a band, but they solve mysteries and fight crime wherever they go!!!
-okay so the members are Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, Stephanie Brown, Barbara Gordon, Cass Cain, and Duke Thomas
-Dick, Jay, Tim, Cass, and Dami are all actual siblings but only the three oldest boys and Steph and Duke play instruments
-Babs is like the master technician behind all their shows and the greatest manager ever!!! None of the fans care that she's in a wheelchair they all love her and they know that if it weren't for Babs the band would have never taken off
-Babs is also great at playing mission op/comms and is a brilliant hacker whenever they take on a case (she also homeschools everyone during free time and on bus/plane rides)
-Cass and Dami are the best personal security guards and will kick anyone's ass to keep their brothers and friends safe, even if it's literally just an annoying/creepy fangirl who wants them to sign her ass or something and they go everywhere their fam goes
-Dick, being the oldest, is the band and mission leader and plays lead guitar and is lead singer, no show is complete without his signature flips from acrobatic lessons he learned as a child (the others can do stunts like that too but Dick is the most extravagant and experienced), the fans can’t decide whether he’s suave and smooth or dorky and chill
- Jason (fans all call him Jay) plays drums and does backup vocals, he's not much of an actual singer and is considered the bad boy/rebel of the band but if you check his social media it's 80% soft and pretty w/ stacks of books and homeschool lessons and sunsets and his fam (other 30% is typical bad boy leather jacket shit you’d expect of him)
-tim (also on backup vocals) is most definitely a keyboardist, the way his fingers move on the keyboard is similar to hacking into an advanced AI system, tim is also most relatable to fans bc most o/ his ig pics, no matter how happy they look, have some negative depressing millenial/gen-z humor caption, Tim is also known for having a major caffeine addiction and loving/referencing geeky nerd stuff
-(also there are rumors of tim and steph dating but nobody really knows for sure???)
-speaking of steph, she's the other lead singer and slays on the backup guitar, fans love her fierce optimism and how she always manages to capture different members at the randomest, funniest times for her ig, and for steph a show isn't a show unless she's wearing something beautifully purple
-And Duke (yes he's backup vocals too) plays bass incredibly well, he's the newest member and doesn't know a lot of the inside jokes yet but he feels like he's been part of the band since forever, he's seen as the peaceful gentle member and is usually the one fans make memes out of bc of his constant "I have no idea what they're doing" face
-they rotate going on missions so that nobody is ever too tired or worn down, like on time it’s tim, cass, steph, and duke, another time it’s dick, jay, cass, dami (always ends up being 3-4 people), but there’s always a chance for some of the Batband to rest, practice, train, write lyrics, etc. (and on missions where Tim, Dami, or Dick sit out they take over Babs’ role as ops manager for that time)
-it’s honestly a miracle nobody’s figured it out yet???? like any one of these days the Batband is expecting to see some conspiracy headline or fan theory like “Ever wonder why trouble stops wherever the Batband shows up???”
-they’re also really bad at being subtle and sneaky, like once during a livestream Steph and Duke almost showed Tim and Cass swinging through a window in full costume, another time Jay showed up to an interview with a very visible nasty cut and bruise he forgot to cover up with makeup bc there wasn’t any pain and he literally forgot they existed
-another thing the Batband likes to do is whatever amount of damage they caused in money, they’ll donate that amount to the city to help pay for repairs and stuff, they’ll also help out with civilians’ insurance wherever and whenever they can (this just adds to their publicity and other celebs who don’t know about the vigilante life are kinda salty about it, a lot of haters claim that they do it just to look good)
-the Batband also donates to a lot of charities and fundraisers for the poor, homeless, third-world countries, veterans, etc. bc if it weren’t for Bruce Wayne, who adopted like five of them, they and a lot of other people they love would be in those same situations (as stated by Dick Grayson in an interview)
-also sometimes they collab (and go crime fighting with) other vigilante artists, like the EDM/hip-hop duo known as Spitfire, which is made up of Dick’s best friend, Wally, who’s a super cool DJ and Wally’s girlfriend Artemis, who can sing and rap like a total badass
-BONUS: Bruce Wayne, biggest socialite in Gotham, is so incredibly proud of the kids and records/collects every interview, article, and picture to exist
(also really sorry I couldn’t fit in harper or kate but I thought this was long enough alreaday :/)

[Alfred]
- He forbade you from becoming a vigilante - Yes, Bruce and his sons were family, but you were practically the closest thing to him - When you brought up the subject of one day becoming a crime fighter: “Absolutely not! You are to go to school to have a normal life” - He made sure you had minimum training, only in defense but refused for you to go out in the field - He allowed you to help patch wombs and help stitch their armor back together
[Batfam]
- Bruce would only agree to vigilantism if Alfred would: “What did Alfred say? …then you know the answer” - Bruce would be the one to snitch on you if you tried to sneak out - Dick loved the idea of another Batgirl but followed Alfred’s order. - Dick also helps you train - Cassandra doesn’t care and helps you train - Damian will snitch - Tim (the poor coffee indulgent he is) taught you to hack and what not - Duke kept it a secret but constantly reminded you of going against Alfred’s wishes
[Batgirl Clan]
- So you lied to Alfred - So you went over to Barbara’s - So you might have slipped her three bucks to train you - Barbra was happy to train, she’s just as badass in her wheelchair just as she was before the incident - She taught you discipline, hacking, how to get information, the whole shebang - Kate and Steph also kept your secret - Kate honestly loved the idea of a new Batgirl, like another lil sister - But Kate did make sure the the job was not a game - She taught you some military fighting, helped you with your stamina - Steph was down as well - Steph was mostly a sparring partner - Sooner, you were going out to get training more often and even rewarded with you costume, armor, and gear - You worked on patrol with Steph and Kate and it was amazing. - Cassandra found out about you, y'all were double teaming criminals - Utter bliss
[Secrets out]
- As soon as Batman saw you flipping around and shit around the city: he took you straight home. - A mild bit of him was glad you were kicking ass and was impressed that you solved the Jervis Tetch case yourself - the other bit of him is upset you disobeyed Alfred’s wishes - Tim suspected as much but was handling his own business - Dick was super excited, he would’ve hugged you, high fived you, if he could he’d give you a medallion - Damian didn’t care in all honesty, he was going with the flow and minding his own business - Duke: “ooh… you’ve stirred the pot now” but low-key proud of your success - Cass was happy - Alfred was ready to blow a gasket - He was very disappointed, angry, upset. - Bruce’s children disobeyed him at times but they had years of training - But you were his niece, practically his child
- Later on though, talking with him alone you told him how passionate you were about helping people, stoping bad guys, a goal for peace in Gotham - He told you how he didn’t want you to become another Jason Todd - He worried about you becoming hurt and it’s too late to help you - He gave in to your night job but only to small cases and patrol, he forbid you to go near major criminals such as Falcone, Sinois, and especially the Joker
[Afterwards]
- You were on patrol more openly and got to go out with the rest of the crew - Dick definitely showed you tricks on down time - Bruce gave you strict rules - in the end, everything turned out fine.

What do the entire bat family thoughts on Keith and the rest of the Voltron team, including the Alteans? Zarkon? Haggar?
okok so I’m going to go on with assuming that Shiro is already part of batfam (the whole AU where he was a batkid before joining the Garrison and going on the Kerberos mission).
Bruce: I think he would pretty much adopt Keith; he has all the qualifications for a troubled batkid, and he’s good with hand to hand combat and he doesn’t use guns. He would adore Lance, Pidge & Hunk, but would probably grow annoyed by them at some points (because Bruce can’t handle happiness and fun heheh) and he would seriously respect Allura. At first he would be skeptical of her (Selina Kyle vibes) but he would trust her when he sees how much Shiro loves & trusts her and how she’s badass. Coran would be like a second Alfred to him, tbh.
Dick: tbh some days Dick just gets really fed up with Keith. He can barely handle Jason and Damian––last he needs is another snappy, quick-tempered kid who gets offended by everything. But most days, Dick loves Keith and treats him like another one of his younger siblings: with love, patience and scolding. I think he’d fall in love with Allura tbh, then pout because she & Shiro are already a thing (but he’d be really happy for Shiro because if he deserves a someone amazing, then it’s Allura). He and Lance would be good friends I think, because Dick can appreciate when someone is trying really hard to lighten the mood and ease the tension in the room (usually that’s his role, so he’s happy that Lance seems to seriously help).
Jason: would be such an asshole to Keith, because it’s so fun. Whenever Keith makes a sad comment about how he’s half-galra or something, Jason will say “wow, must suck. I only died and came back to life” just to piss him off (and Keith keeps getting pissed off, every time). He and Lance wouldn’t get along well at first, because his comments are too sharp and he ends up hurting Lance’s feelings… until they kinda realize they both have some pent up thoughts about how they just don’t fit in the family and how everyone else seems to be better than them in the eye of the leader, and Lance begins to understand Jason’s sarcasm and dry humour, and they get along really well. He’d respect Allura and keep calling Coran “Alfred” for jokes. I also think he would secretly love Hunk’s hugs, but would never admit to it.
Tim: Tim is BEST FRIENDS with Hunk & Pidge!!! He would be good friends with Lance and Keith, too, but not quite their best friend. He loves to nerd over tech & ideas with Hunk and Pidge, he loves to listen to them explain how the Lions work and what Pidge felt when she felt every atom of Green, etc. He and Pidge stay up late at night, living off caffeine, and Hunk brings them some of the tasty food he cooks because “guys, you need to eat actual food.”
Stephanie: Adores Allura, and eventually becomes her mentor and teaches her some kickass moves in combat. She’s always in awe at Allura’s powers, and they become very close, like sisters. Allura opens up to her about how losing her entire planet and kingdom was so devastating. Stephanie would also like Lance and would keep giving him adorable nicknames (and plays along with his corny pick up lines)… they both know they’ll never be a thing, but they enjoy making everyone else uncomfortable by playing corny flirty kids. I think she would also be sort of a big sister for Pidge, and they’d play video games together and she would happily listen to Pidge rant about technology and space. And Keith––I’m not actually sure how Steph would feel about him. I think she have a similar relationship with him to Dick’s.
Damian: okay so I have this whole headcanon that Dami & Lance become best friends because Lance treats the kid like a kid, despite his bratty remarks and the fact that he speaks like an old man from the early 20th century. He spoils Dami, always buying him ice cream and inviting him to play soccer/basketball/tennis/video games etc with them and he never gets angry when Damian is too good––instead, he tells the kid how good he is. At first Dami brushes it off with narcissistic remarks, but it later means a lot to him. Eventually, he loosens up and feels so comfortable around Lance that he opens up to him about his nightmares, fears, and how despite being the bloodson, he fears that he will never make his father & Dick proud and that Tim will never like him.
As for Keith, I think he would be a tiny bit jealous of him because Shiro & Dad loves Keith, Dick fights super well alongside Keith, Jason actually jokes more with Keith (and teases him more), and Tim actually likes him, despite his snappy responses. So at first Dami avoids Keith, always feeling like he’s the new star of the show… but one day Keith challenges him to a swordfight, and softly laughs when Damian nearly kicks his ass. They become sword buddies, and eventually good friends/brothers.
As for Zarkon & Haggar, I think pretty much all of them would hate them because 1) they’re bad guys and 2) what they did to Shiro
feel free to reblog this and add more for Cass and Duke etc!! I just wasn’t sure about them!!

The Space I Filled - Chapter 4: Mr. Lonely
Did Tim feel guilty? Yes. Telling her his identity as a sign of trust didn't really have the same meaning when your identity is a fake one anyway. He introduced himself as Gabriel, bartender and parttime vigilante. His parents had died at an early age due to gang violence and he wanted to rid the city of crime because of it. Nope, he had never met any other superheroes, Batman was just as mysterious to him as he was to her. Superman? Of course not. He was but a smalltime vigilante, he had never even been to America.
She ate up what he told her, and he had to remind himself that there was a good reason he didn't just go around telling everyone he got to know who he really was. She trained well, learned quickly and eagerly, and he genuinely enjoyed teaching her, enjoyed seeing her grow into a strong fighter.
He had been training her for a few months when he asked her who she wanted to be.
"Who?"
"Yeah. Who do you want to be when you get out there and actually start fighting crime? I chose Red X. Have you thought about it?"
"Oh... Yeah, I kind of have. I thought maybe something similar to yours could work. Like Black X, or just X, or... I don't know, something with X in it."
He nodded and offered her a smile. "How about X-girl?"
She made a face at him and he laughed, ruffling her hair to let her know he was only teasing. "Or Lower Case X, that works too." That made her swipe at him, and he let her hit his arm good naturedly.
"What about... something with Red in it instead of X? Like just Red, maybe."
Tim nodded, approving. "Red sounds good. Red X and Red, has a nice ring to it."
She grinned at him and he grinned back before sending her off to do her bo staff practice.
*
Their first patrol was so imperfect it was perfect. He watched her make so many of the same rookie mistakes he had made, and there was that one time she took forever to shoot her grapple and he nearly had a heart attack because he thought it had jammed or something, but she was just enjoying the free fall. He had her back, took out the people that she wasn't keeping an eye on like she should have been, snagged the back of her suit when she got a bit too close to the edge of a building and yanked her back. He ruffled her shock of black hair and let her take the spotlight when they dropped in on some bad guys. He thought that this must be what a parent felt like when they watched their baby walk for the first time, or dropped them off at the first day of kindergarten. At the end of it all, he told her he was proud of her, and she fluffed up with pride like a cockatiel.
After that, the criminal world of Fortaleza knew to watch out for both of them.
"My crew got taken down by the Reds last night."
"Don't go after Red, X is always close behind her."
"Do you think she's his kid?"
"Figures. This always happens with them vigilante types. One pops up and then they start multiplying. We're gonna be the next Gotham, wait and see."
It wasn't long before Red started earning a reputation of her own, outside the shadows of Red X's. She was the cheery one, the one who went soft on you. The one who laughed as she swung above you, the one who hugged the scared kids until they quieted down, the one who could get a chuckle out of Red X. The one who always asked, "Why are you doing this?" before attacking. But if you answered wrong, she could kick your ass, that was for damn sure.
And Red X, the original, well he just loved her to death, didn't he? Sometimes he would just sit at the edge of a building and watch her take out a group, calling out encouragements, compliments, and critiques on her form, the distortion caused by his mask making his voice mechanical and high pitched. He would lurk behind her as she interrogated people, giving her tips on how to be scarier. They had a fantastic good cop, bad cop routine.
Suffice it to say, they were successful. The criminal world feared them, they did good work, and still remained fairly discreet among the everyday people. Nobody had even gotten a grainy picture of them.
He stood on a tall building in the early night and watched Adriana out of the corner of his eye. She stood proud, her short, red cape blowing behind her, one booted foot resting on the rise on the edge of the roof. She turned to look at him, smiling, eyes probably crinkling under the black domino that took up nearly half her face. He ruffled her hair, then took off into the night, knowing she would follow. This was probably the happiest he had been in years. Having someone with him, to watch out for, to share his less mild-mannered alter ego with. It felt good.

"I'll see you later, Gabe," she called over her shoulder as she made her way out of his basement and up the stairs, slumping withe exhaustion from another night of crimefighting.
"Yup. Remember, don't come over tomorrow, you're getting the night off," he answered.
That made her pause. She turned, halfway up the stairs, and stared at him. "What? Why?"
He turned to give her a look. "You have school the next day. You need sleep."
She blinked at him with wide eyes, and he knew she thought he had forgotten. He thought back to nights like this with Bruce, how Tim hated being kept away from his vigilante duties but was forced to get a good nights sleep anyway.
"But- but I can't just ditch my Red gig for something like," she scrunched her nose up, "school."
"Yes you can, and you will. School is important, trust me. Just go. I've worked on my own before, I'm sure I'll manage without you."
"But-" she started again, but he just shot her a look that always seemed to get her to quiet down, and she sighed and looked away. "Fine."
He nodded and said, "Goodnight, Adriana."
"'Night," came her disappointed reply.
After her footsteps retreated and he heard the door to his house slam shut, he sat down at this workdesk and began cleaning his weapons. A shuriken, black and gleaming, that had a few flecks of blood on it. He wiped it down, polishing it until he could see himself in it. Setting it aside, he started on one of Adriana's shuriken, which had red highlights when you held it up to the light. The cloth rubbed over the sharp edges, and Tim stared down at it, thinking about how she had accidentally hit it against an alley wall, blunting the point.
He had done that a few times, he remembered, back when he was Robin. A slight twist of his wrist in the wrong direction and the shuriken had flown off course, barely grazing Two Face's ear and hitting the wall behind him. He had dove at him, seeing the opening he had left. Dick had made up for it, getting Two Face with a perfectly aimed batarang, and Tim had felt horribly embarassed at his mistake. But Dick had just laughed and ruffled his hair, telling him that he had done the same exact thing a million times.
Tim remembered the weight of his hand on his head, the comfort it had brought. The feeling that even if he messed up, someone had his back. He remembered how Dick had told Bruce that Tim had done well that night, not mentioning the little mishap, and Bruce had nodded approvingly at Tim.
Tim remembered how Kon asked him one time how he never missed with the shuriken, and Tim had smiled and said, "I missed so many times when I started out that luck is just paying me back now." And Kon had snorted, amused.
He remembered having a throwing competition with Steph and soundly beating her, and she had been pissed about it for days even though he hadn't even gloated. He remembered giving Cass a really nice set of them for Christmas one year. He remembered Jason starting to throw a few at him, before realizing who he was and saying, "Jesus, Replacement, warn a guy."
He remembered how he fell asleep polishing them one night, and had woken up to a blanket draped around his shoulders, surely Alfred's doing. He remembered the warmth at the thought, the feeling of having someone looking out for him. He remembered feeling safe.
Tim snapped back to reality with a start, realizing that he was gripping the shuriken with his fingers and blood was dripping from them and onto the table.
"Shit," he muttered, and grabbed a cloth to stem the bleeding, dropping the weapon on the table.
He sighed and looked at it, thinking that he would have to clean it all over again. He looked back to his hands, trying to stop them from trembling, and took a shaky breath.
He couldn't... he couldn't do this anymore. He couldn't stand being alone like this. He had Adriana, but it wasn't the same as having his family. His brothers, his sister, Bruce, Steph, Babs, Alfred. God, he missed Alfred's hot chocolate, how the butler always seemed to know when Tim needed a mug of it and someone to talk to. He missed Oracle's voice over his comm, how he never felt alone with her in his ear. He missed Steph's laughter as they soared through the air. He missed Kon's smile when Tim said something funny. He missed the spats with Jason and Damian, he missed Cass's silent communication, he even missed Bruce's silent lack of communication. He missed Dick's hand on his shoulder.
Tim put his head on the worktable, not caring that he was getting his own blood in his hair, not caring that his tears were falling down to mingle with the blood.
"I miss you," he whispered, choking on his own breath, and gripped the cloth painfully against his hand. "I miss you, I miss you, I miss you, I miss you..."
