i mentioned here about min/ako approaching fu/uka at some point as the battle against the full moon shadows, or arcana shadows, comes to a end. perhaps not before shinj//iro's death but certainly after the exams imposed suspiciously by ikuts/uki. in fact the changes to mina/ko's body as she unknowingly absorbs each felled arcana to feed death within her as it reforms within that metaphorical womb. as it grows stronger so does she; && she's noticed. she's aware that something exists within her, she's long since felt ph/aros' presence alongside her own as he slumbers & how active he becomes once she returns to iwatod/ai alongside her twin. it's soon into summer when pieces start to fall into place that ph/aros is something private to her & only her.
so after that day with fuu/ka, as she asks the one question that has plagued her since the second full moon shadow was destroyed: am i a monster ? to which she asks with tears in her eyes, breaking down the moment the words leave her lips. a rare sight; mi/nako shedding any tears, rarer so mina/ko succumbing to her sadness in front of another. preferring to always be stalwart against all odds. to pretend that nothing bothers her. but this does. it does more than bother, it tears at her it claws at her ! but she has to worry not, for fuu/ka is fuu/ka. quick to calm down the crimson fool & swear to keep both this a secret & to figure out what exactly is going on. from here the two would periodically check min/ako's body with a deep scan by luc.ia/ju.no with more attention after a arcana shadow mission has been completed. all done behind ikut/suki's back specifically.
but outside of recording the changes to mina/ko's body & speculating on what it could mean( mi/nako keeping ph/aros' existence a secret even to fuu/ka. fearing that she wouldn't be able to explain him in any way that made sense because she has no idea how to explain him other than he's her friend, a dear friend. && so a unknown factor doesn't seem all that important to bring up when the fear is that she's turning into what sees seeks to destroy. ) there are no answers that come until iku/tsuki reveals himself. that night on the observatory roof where iku/tsuki heralds that mi/nako is the mother of death, a vessel who's only purpose is to carry the fragment of the appriser. all vague words as both he neglects to be clear in his madness & he is cut short by takeh/aru's gunshot. with mi/nako thrown off the observatory & rescued only by mi/nato's awakened ultimate persona messiah, carried to safety she would remain unconscious for a week thereafter.
upon her return & the sudden introduction of a new transfer student, mi/nako asks fuu/ka once more to examine her. aware that something from within her is missing, an emptiness that drives her to worry. while her body remains changed by the shadows, she still to fuu/ka's scans still registering both human & shadow as a sole existence, there is no signs of anything else. that second heartbeat gone. what was once explained away by the fool as maybe something about the presence of the shadow part of herself---- min/ako now having to properly explain there was someone she could only feel & see, alluding to phar/os but having no real way to openly admit his existence. luckily, again, fu/uka is fuu/ka. && she understands there are things m/inako can't talk about or explain & works with what she does know & what she can feel through her persona about mi/nako's body. we as a society do not deserve fuu/ka. goddamn. anyways,
once aig/is strikes out against ry/oji & their memories are returned to them, mi/nako finally gets her answer. it is revealed by ryo/ji his true self as the 13th shadow & that he had been incubating within mi/nako for the past ten years after being sealed away that night on the moonlight bridge by ai/gis, who did so at the request of min/ato to both put a stop to death destroying the world & saving the life of one small girl who laid dying in her brother's arms. this is a memory that only mi/nato had remembered for all these years, keeping silent in selfishness thinking it did not hold any real weight to anyone but he & ai/gis who did not recall. so to min/ako this is a revelation that completely shakes her to her core. while she had her suspicions, she had her speculations---- this was beyond it. && even if she had come to any similar conclusion, hearing it outloud is deafening & everything else after said to her is drowned out by the noise of it all.
a week later when the sees members gather to discuss their choice thrust upon them by ryo/ji, tensions rise as jun/pei snaps & in a moment of weakness blames mi/nako for everything. blaming her for carrying death within her, blaming her for returning home to iwatod/ai. as everyone moves to calm him down, he & everyone else apologizing saying it isn't true, her heart shatters. knowing already her choice as she & m/inato had discussed it the night after ry/oji had left. inside she is nothing more than a shipwreck torn to shreds by wave & rock sinking further & further into the waters. while she assures everyone she knows junp/ei didn't mean it( he, so instantly moving to apologize over & over again walking away to deal with his feelings before he lets himself say anything else that could cause hurt ) she too blames herself for all this. she would go up to the roof once everyone is dismissed, press herself tight against the brick wall letting the wash of night dress her the cold air sting her skin as she weeps. oh, she weeps she weeps she weeps.
after some time she would descend the stairs, her feet taking her to her brother's room only to pause before entering. still suffering with the internal conflict of confusion, hurt, & anger about her other half's unspoken truths finds herself within a dilemma. you see, one of min/ako's biggest vices as we all well may know is that she doesn't lean on others for support. she always goes to her brother, her twin, her mirror. the two share everything without boundaries. when they need comfort, they go to each other rather than anyone else. min/ako struggles to let herself be vulnerable around anyone else. && it's in this moment she realizes that, while she does have some complicated feelings to min/ato right now, it's not his comfort she wants. but of one of her friends from this newfound family she's built. && so she turns around, returns to her room. she dons her pajamas & washes her face. she takes her pillow & makes her way next door to her own, knocking lightly in hopes that yu/kari can hear---- asking if she can stay a while with the archer as she hugs her pillow to her chest, ever so tight. such a rare display of insecurity. she spends the night alongside her best friend, curled up in yuk/ari's bed as her friend strokes her hair & let's min/ako cry until she finally falls asleep.
it won't be until ry/oji returns & receives his answer that min/ako returns to the question of what she is, who she is. in ry/oji's face she sees herself, she sees ph/aros. she sees death, she sees her friend. taking his hands in her own as she has done dozens of times. together or separate, it doesn't matter, she knows that no matter what; they are connected, from her heart to his own. he is her most precious, dearest friend & she is his. as she changed him, he changed her. for better or worse. && she accepts herself as she is: both human AND shadow. just like ryo/ji, her little pha/ros. that she is no monster.
for m/inato, his orph/eus awakens into messiah the night on the observatory. his want to save his sister, to save his friends burning so fiercely within his heart that his resolve is heard & messiah awakens to his beck & call. for mi/nako, within her room alongside her brother as she holds ry/oji's hands & accepts herself wholly without a drop of anything less than love for herself & what she has become. the love within her heart a burning resolve that her orph/eus hears & awakens into tha/natos. seen once before when she originally awakened to her persona, now true in it's manifestation from this point forward.
mi/nato is light, min/ako is shadow. one can not exist without the other. both of them, hand in hand, look upward into nyx & tell her no as she threatens humanity.

Reon x Kenta
I Don't Want to be Alone
The sun is gone, and the wind blows strongly outside. There may be an incoming storm, so GYROAXIA's practice got canceled. Reon though it was a good thing. He could use some solo practice.
Home alone, Reon sits on his couch, guitar and pick in hand. He plays the melody for their new song, but it's a but difficult without Miyuki's drumming or Ryo's bass. Reon sighs and leans back against the couch.
There's a knock on his door, startling him from his train of thought. Reon frowns, putting his guitar down and shoving the pick in his pocket.
Who could it be?
He opens the door. Standing in the door way, is GYROAXIA's guitarist, Kenta Satozuka. Surprised, Reon scans him quickly. His tie is loose, his red hair messy, face flushed red, and his chest heavy. Reon can smell the alcohol on Kenta's clothes.
Out of all places, he choose Reon's house. It infuriated him slightly. Kenta and Reon didn't really get along well for reasons called Nayuta.
"Kenta? What are you doing here?"
A strong wind blows, and Reon shivers. He steps aside and lets Kenta into his house. Despite being drunk, he still had the decency to take off his shoes and leave them by the entrance.
"Can't believe how drunk you are."
Kenta turns around and points a finger at the guitarst.
"I'm not drunk!" His words are slurred together, obviously he's been drinking more than usual.
"Yes, you are."
"I'm not...fucking drunk!"
It's rare seeing Kenta angry, usually he's calm and quiet. Hearing him swear is another rare thing. Actually, Reon can't recall a moment where Kenta had cursed.
"Alright, can you tell the time?" Reon asked.
"Yes," the redhead turns to a clock on the wall, "I'm not fucking drunk."
Reon slaps a hand over his mouth, trying not to laugh loudly. He wished he had a camera to record it. Reon should really help Kenta. But it's another rare thing to see him drunk. Yes, Kenta liked wine and did drink it fairly often, just not a lot in one sitting.
Reon sighs and wraps an arm around Kenta's waist, letting his weight lean on him. Kenta graps Reon's shoulder in an attempt to steady himself. He wonders why Kenta came to his house. Maybe he should do some questioning.
Just a little bit of prying.
"Hey, Kenta. Why are you drunk?"
"Cuz I drank too much?"
Reon rolled his eyes. Okay, so maybe Kenta still had a shitty sense of humor. It kind of ticked him off.
"Nice one. Now tell me, why were you drinking?"
"Oh...fuck. Who knowz? I just got thirsty."
Kenta's words are slightly clearer, but it's kind of hard for Reon to understand him. The questioning will have to be cut short.
Reon takes Kenta to the couch, and the guitarist plops down. The redhead rubs his eyes, a quiet yawn escaping his flushed lips. Reon frowns soflty.
Kenta should take his bed for tonight. Sleeping on the couch isn't really comfortable. Besides, Reon still has practice. He glances at the clock that Kenta talked to earlier.
11:00 PM
"Reon."
"What?"
"What're ya thinkin'?"
"I'm thinking you should take my bed tonight."
"Oh."
He grabs Kenta's arm, and again slowly drags him away. Kenta leans against Reon, using him as support.
"Reon."
"What?"
"I'm hungry."
"No, you're going straight to bed."
"Ugh! Okay."
Kenta reluctantly allows Reon to drag him to the bedroom. He stares at Reon, who cutly bites his lower lip as he struggles to drag Kenta. He finds everything about Reon cute.
"Hehehe~"
"What's so funny?"
"Nnnothin'. You look cute though."
"Kenta, you're drunk."
"For fucks sake, I told ya'! I'm not drunk."
Reon heaves a sigh, relief washing over him as they reached his bedroom.
Why did it take so long?
He throws the redhead on the bed, who let's himself be thrown. Reon rubs his shoulder, which aches from Kenta's tight grip. There's a moment of silence, and Reon can see Kenta's expression change.
His face is still red, but his mouth is set in a straight line, and his eyes seemed watery. Kenta shifts in bed, leaving a wide area empty.
"Reon."
"What?"
"Lay down with me."
"Kenta..."
"Please? I don't want to be alone."
The yellow eyed male is taken aback. Kenta was never open with his feelings. Especially with his desires. So it's surprising to hear Kenta ask something. Especially a request like that.
"Fine. But I'm only going to lay down."
Reon fills the space Kenta left, awkwardly lying on his back. Kenta wraps an arm around his waist, gently nuzzling his face into Reon's shoulder.
"Will stay right here?"
Kenta spoke softly, voice barely reaching a whisper. It was so quiet, Reon thought he hadn't spoken at all. He glances down, and Kenta looks at him with hopeful eyes. Almost like a child begging their mom to stay.
"Sure, for as long as you need me to."
Kenta smiles soflty, a bright and beautiful smile that blinded Reon. He grabs Kenta's glasses and puts them on the nightstand.
Well, if he's going to sleep in the same bed as Kenta, he might as well get comfortable. He rolls onto his side, and brings a hand to the red strands of hair. He gently runs his fingers through the soft locks of hair.
So soft.
Reon slowly closes his eyes, feeling the drowsiness get to him. Weird, he thought. He wasn't tired until Kenta got here. He did waste a bunch of energy carrying him.
The warmth of the sun, brings Kenta back to consciousness, his head throbbing in pain. He groans softly, rubbing his eyes. He realizes the limiting space, and slowly raises his gaze.
Kenta's heart jumps at the sight. Reon's chest rises and falls, a steady rhythm that matches the beat of his heart. His hair is messy, but it makes him look hot. Kenta gulps slightly at the choice of words.
So he likes Reon, what's the problem?
The problem is that he got drunk and blacked out along the way. He doesn't remember jack shit. Kenta doesn't know if he told Reon about his feelings nor if he caused problems.
The thoughts and alcohol make his stomach ache. He realizes this pain, and groans softly. His nausea and head ache isn't really helping. Kenta gently pushes Reon's arm, slowly sitting up. He's careful not to wake him up.
His head feels like it's being squeezed under some sort of pressure. Kenta groans again, rubbing his head.
He feels like throwing up. This is not okay. He slowly gets off the bed, his legs threatening to crumble beneath him. The room spins and he doesn't know if he's on the floor or still standing. Kenta can feel the acid rising up his throat.
He cursed mentally and rushes to the bathroom, forgetting Reon's presence. He manages to get there in time to empty out his stomach. He holds his hair back, spitting into the bowl beneath him. He presses the handle, and watched it flush. Kenta waits patiently.
It comes again, the feeling of something going up and the acid burning his throat. He hates that feeling. Not to mention the taste is gross. He just tastes alcohol and puke. Not a good mixture.
Kenta breathes heavily. He feels something grazing his back. He jumps slightly.
"Hey, hey. Kenta it's me. Just relax, okay?"
Reon's voice is soothing and gentle. Kenta actually feels relaxed. He can still feel his stomach acid churning.
"I brought water and aspirin. Take them once you're done."
Kenta nods, feeling the bile rise up again. He mentally curses, and was slightly ashamed. Reon was in the room, afterall. Bearing witness to this mess.
Once he's sure it's over, and his stomach is no longer bubbling, he sighed softly. And gingerly stood up. Kenta opens the sink and rinses his mouth thoroughly. He rinses and spits repeatedly.
"Hey, I got you a toothbrush. I'll get you some clothes and a towel so you can shower."
Kenta nods once more.
"Thank you."
He cringed at the sound of his voice. Weak.
Reon smiles softly before disappearing again. Kenta rubs his head, groaning softly. He burshes his teeth for about ten minutes. There is no way he won't be thorough with his hygiene. Once that's done, he takes the aspirin and gulps down the glass of water.
The door to the bathroom opens again, and Reon leaves a pile of clothes by the entrance along with a towel.
"Sorry if the clothes don't fit you. They're mine."
Kenta tries his best not to blush. Wearing Reon's clothes is a blessing. He silently thanks Reon, who simply smiles in return.
Luckily, the keys of the showers were simple. He turns only the cold water on, and steps in. The cold water wakes him up. Kenta sighs softly, splashing the water onto his face. He just realized he doesn't know where his glasses are.
I hate myself so much right now.
Kenta groans softly. He's been tired recently. Band practice, school, checking in on his brother, taking care of Nayuta. Now that he's alone with his thoughts, it seems strange.
Why the fuck am I taking care of Nayuta?
Kenta grabs a shampoo bottle, making sure it's shampoo first, and squirts some onto his hand. He feels to relieved to shower. He reminds himself that he's at Reon's place. He blushes furiously, the warmth traveling down his neck and lower. He cusses out loud.
After showering, he grabs the towel and quickly dries himself off. Kenta slips the clothes on. It's rather loose around him. A long sleeved shirt, and grey jeans. They're really comfortable too. He exits the bathroom and steps into Reon's bedroom.
The room has obviously been cleaned and organized. The bed is made and the nightstand only has a clock on it. And...
"My glasses. Thank God."
He grabs them and slips them on. He can see clearly now. He smiles softly. Kenta leaves the bedroom and catches a whiff of food. His stomach rumbled, and he noticed how hungry he is.
Reon can cook?
He enters the kitchen and sees Reon by the stove. A song he doesn't recognize is playing, but it's a good song. Reon gently hums to the song, as he prepares breakfast. Actually, Kenta glances at clock, brunch. The song reached the chorus, and Reon began singing.
"Seiippai kono namida kakiwakete"
"Kimi ni subete o ageru kara"
"Onegai dō ka kienaide kure"
"Ano hi mamoru to kimeta, yakusoku wa kono mune ni"
Kenta smiles soflty. He wished he could see Reon's face. And besides, Reon's singing wasn't bad. It's actually really soothing and calming.
"Good afternoon."
Reon turns and beams at Kenta. It's startling, but the redhead doesn't mind. He enjoys seeing Reon smile. And he rarely smiles at him. So he won't comment.
"Hey! How'd ya sleep?"
Reon asks as Kenta takes a seat at the table.
"Not bad. Uhm, and you?"
"Pretty good, actually."
The kitchen is quiet. Kenta feels awkward, but the air doesn't feel that way. He wants to talk to Reon to ignore the weight of the air.
"What are you making."
"Ah, nothing special. Just curry."
The song that was playing hasn't finished, and it reaches the last few lines. Reon sings all of it flawlessly.
"It's a good song. What's the name?"
"Oh, haha. It's Polaris by Blue Encount. It's the opening for My Hero Academia."
Kenta has heard the name before. He just can't recall what it is.
"Oh, is that so?"
"Yeah, the openings are great and Blue Encount is a great band. I like to cover them sometimes."
Kenta nods, and it feels as if the air is lighter now. After a minute of waiting, a plate of curry is set in front of him, along with a spoon. Kenta thanks him, and gingerly scoops up a but of the curry. Reon sits across from him, setting his own plate.
"Oh, it's good."
Kenta comments. Reon smiles and nods, eating some himself.
"Sorry if it's kind of boring. I wanted to make something simple and quick. It's the only thing that came to mind."
Kenta shook his head.
"Now, tell me what happened yesterday."
Kenta shoves a spoonful of curry in his mouth. Wanting to avoid the question, he took his time breaking down the food. Reon sighs softly.
"Fine, don't answer."
Reon angrily stares at the plate in front of him, eating the food little by little. Kenta felt a little guilty. While showering, he did remember what happened yesterday and why he got drunk.
"I'll tell you what happened. But you have to tell me what I did last night."
"Alright."
Kenta gulps softly, poking at the curry with his spoon. He sighs softly and puts the spoon down.
"Wataru called me last night. He told me we had to talk."
"Your brother?"
"Right. Apperantly, my parents got in contact with him. They told him that they wanted to see me and him."
"Wait, aren't your parents divorced?"
"Yeah, Wataru said we'll be meeting them next week. I didn't want to. I told him I wasn't going to. He got mad at me. We had a small argument."
Kenta fiddles with his sleeves, avoiding eye contact with Reon.
"I decided to drink a bit. And, well, you know the effects of alcohol."
Kenta grabbed the spoon and shoved the curry into his mouth. It's good and made by Reon. He'll eat it. Besides he's done talking.
"Oh, uhm, I'm sorry."
"It's fine. Now tell me what happened."

Kenta blushes madly. Here he was, worried about spilling his unnecessary emotions. But his worst enemy was talking to a damn clock.
"Reon, I'm serious. Anything else?"
"Err, nothing strange. I mean, you asked me to lay down with you because you didn't want to be alone."
Is it possible to blush this much in one day? Yes, yes it is.
Kenta's face grows hot and he looks down at his food. He rapidly eats all of it, wanting to leave the kitchen as quicklt as possible.
"Oh, and Kenta."
"Hm?"
"I think you should talk to your parents."
Kenta nearly chokes on the curry.
"You should be able to rely on them. Of course, that doesn't mean you should trust them right of the bat. I think you should try and fix your relationship with them."
Kenta coughs, startled by the sudden piece of advice. Reon stands and grabs a cup of water. He offers the cup and Kenta takes it.
"Thank you. You did a lot for me."
"Don't mention it. I'd do it again."
Kenta and Reon smile at each other.
"I'll make sure you won't have to."

Life Span
Myoho renge kyo – nyorai juryo’hon dai ju-roku
Ji ga toku bur^rai. Sho kyo sho kosshu. Muryo hyaku sen man. Oku sai asogi. Jo seppo kyoke Mushu oku shujo. Ryo nyu o butsu-do. Nirai muryo ko.
“Since I attained Buddhahood the number of kalpas that have passed is an immeasurable hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, millions, trillions, asamkhyas. Constantly I have preached the Law, teaching, converting countless millions of living beings, causing them to enter the Buddha way, all this for immeasurable kalpas.
I do shujo ko. Hoben gen nehan. Ni jitsu fu metsu-do. Jo ju shi seppo.
“In order to save living beings, as an expedient means I appear to enter nirvana but in truth I do not pass into extinction. I am always here preaching the Law.
Ga jo ju o shi. I sho jin-zu-riki. Ryo tendo shujo. Sui gon ni fu ken.
“I am always here, but through my transcendental powers I make it so that living beings in their befuddlement do not see me even when close by.
Shu ken ga metsu-do. Ko kuyo shari. Gen kai e renbo. Ni sho katsu-go shin.
“When the multitude see that I have passed into extinction, far and wide they offer alms to my relics. All harbor thoughts of yearning and in their minds thirst to gaze at me.
Shujo ki shin-buku. Shichi-jiki i nyunan. Isshin yok^ken butsu. Fu ji shaku shinmyo. Ji ga gyu shuso. Ku shutsu ryojusen.
“When living beings have become truly faithful, honest and upright, gentle in intent, single-mindedly desiring to see the Buddha not hesitating even if it costs them their lives, then I and the assembly of monks appear together on Holy Eagle Peak.
Ga ji go shujo. Jo zai shi fu-metsu. I hobenrik^ ko. Gen u metsu fu-metsu. Yo-koku u shujo. Kugyo shingyo sha. Ga bu o hi chu. I setsu mujo ho.
“At that time I tell the living beings that I am always here, never entering extinction, but that because of the power of an expedient means at times I appear to be extinct, at other times not,
and that if there are living beings in other lands who are reverent and sincere in their wish to believe, then among them too I will preach the unsurpassed Law.
Nyoto fu mon shi. Tan ni ga metsu-do. Ga ken sho shujo. Motsu-zai o kukai. Ko fu i gen shin. Ryo go sho katsu-go. In go shin renbo. Nai shutsu I seppo.
“But you have not heard of this, so you suppose that I enter extinction. When I look at living beings I see them drowned in a sea of suffering; therefore I do not show myself, causing them to thirst for me. Then when their minds are filled with yearning, at last I appear and preach the Law for them.
Jin-zu riki nyo ze. O asogi ko. Jo zai ryo jusen. Gyu yo sho jusho. Shujo ken ko jin. Dai ka sho sho ji. Ga shi do annon. Tennin jo juman. Onrin sho dokaku. Shuju ho Shogon. Hoju ta keka. Shujo sho yuraku. Shoten gyaku tenku. Jo sas^shu gi-gaku. U mandara ke. San butsu gyu daishu. Ga jodo fu ki. Ni shu ken sho jin. Ufu sho kuno. Nyo ze shitsu juman.
“Such are my transcendental powers. For asamkhya kalpas constantly I have dwelled on Holy Eagle Peak and in various other places. When living beings witness the end of a kalpa and all is consumed in a great fire, this, my land, remains safe and tranquil, constantly filled with heavenly and human beings. The halls and pavilions in its gardens and groves are adorned with various kinds of gems. Jeweled trees abound in flowers and fruit where living beings enjoy themselves at ease. The gods strike heavenly drums, constantly making many kinds of music. Mandarava blossoms rain down, scattering over the Buddha and the great assembly. My pure land is not destroyed, yet the multitude see it as consumed in fire, with anxiety, fear and other sufferings filling it everywhere.
Ze sho zai shujo. I aku-go innen. Ka asogi ko. Fu mon sanbo myo.
“These living beings with their various offenses, through causes arising from their evil actions,
spend asamkhya kalpas without hearing the name of the Three Treasures.
Sho u shu ku-doku. Nyuwa shichi-jiki sha. Sokkai ken gashin. Zai shi ni seppo. Waku-ji i shi shu. Setsu butsu-ju muryo. Ku nai ken bussha. I setsu butsu nan chi.
“But those who practice meritorious ways, who are gentle, peaceful, honest and upright, all of them will see me here in person, preaching the Law. At times for this multitude I describe the Buddha's life span as immeasurable, and to those who see the Buddha only after a long time I explain how difficult it is to meet the Buddha.
Ga chi-riki nyo ze. Eko sho muryo. Jumyo mushu ko. Ku shugo sho toku.
“Such is the power of my wisdom that its sagacious beams shine without measure. This life span of countless kalpas I gained as the result of lengthy practice.
Nyoto u chi sha. Mot^to shi sho gi. To dan ryo yo jin. Butsu-go jip^puko. Nyo i zen hoben. I ji o shi ko. Jitsu zai ni gon shi. Mu no sek^komo. Ga yaku I se bu. Ku sho kugen sha.
“You who are possessed of wisdom, entertain no doubts on this point! Cast them off, end them forever, for the Buddha's words are true, not false. He is like a skilled physician who uses an expedient means to cure his deranged sons. Though in fact alive, he gives out word he is dead,
yet no one can say he speaks falsely. I am the father of this world, saving those who suffer and are afflicted.
I bonbu tendo. Jitsu zai ni gon metsu. I joken ga ko. Ni sho kyoshi shin. Ho-itsu jaku go-yoku. Da o aku-do chu. Ga jo chi shujo. Gyo do fu gyo do. Zui o sho ka do. I ses^shuju ho.
“Because of the befuddlement of ordinary people, though I live, I give out word I have entered extinction. For if they see me constantly, arrogance and selfishness arise in their minds. Abandoning restraint, they give themselves up to the five desires and fall into the evil paths of existence. Always I am aware of which living beings practice the way, and which do not, and in response to their needs for salvation I preach various doctrines for them.
Mai ji sa ze nen. I ga ryo shujo. Toku nyu mu-jo do. Soku joju busshin.
“At all times I think to myself: How can I cause living beings to gain entry into the unsurpassed way and quickly acquire the body of a Buddha?”

Oh my god, kingdom time… So So Much to talk about, I think I would’ve had to split this into multiple posts even if it was just one episode, because it’s now clear that we’re going to end with yo tan wa’s return rather than the chu court drama, so every scene is being expanded a little to fit, which means so many new lines and sequences…!!!!! And, since we’ll be proceeding slightly out of order anyways b/c there’s one of those sequences that I have to quarantine in its own post, I want to start with The Woman Of All Time on the chu border ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I obviously already would’ve wanted to highlight this next line very badly since because it’s Fun and i’m in love with her abt it, but it seems like we’ve got some additional discussion to do regarding the fact the anime translators had a very different take on ‘mou bu no obocchan’ than the manga translators lol:

I think the anime team is probably right that she’s referring to mou bu, since he’s the one in the panel (also, I’d be willing to believe that she doesn’t know/care that he has a son), but the fact that the mou family’s young master Is Here on the field does muddy the waters.. Also, in my heart I want her to be talking about mou ten, sorry, I think he doesn’t get personally bullied anywhere near enough and she would be the perfect person to do it ❤️
thrilled to see him here with hon and roku omi, though, of course:

A couple of steps ahead of them in terms of figuring out the ai situation, too :) even when he’s barely even in the background of a campaign he’s still completely on top of things, that’s my boyyy
but unfortunately with that interlude aside we’re headed back to court for (lovingly) a very bad time for everyone involved. Here we actually get to see rou ai’s trial (following his capture, which I’ll discuss later lol) as a scene with dialogue, vs the narration sequence in the manga; so we get to see him accuse ryo fui of sending him to the queen mother, and to see him take full blame for the ai rebellion himself, which I really enjoyed.. several of the anime’s additions (incl. in the rout at kankoku) serve to really emphasize his devotion to her, which helps to underpin the subsequent scene, which in many ways is about her love for him just as much as her love for her children :(
The most interesting part of the entire trial, though, is actually kou’s speech; in the most basic sense it’s a fine character moment that demonstrates how much she cares for sei, but what’s really good is that it comes after sei’s made it clear that he intends to execute the other children…

That’s a look of genuine surprise and distress, and there’s no indication anywhere else that she’s one of the people who knows that he isn’t actually going to have his siblings killed… the fact that she’s visibly upset by what he plans to do but still not only supports him in it but goes on to chastise his mother for being too cruel to him in the same scene is actually so good. I don’t even think she’s in the wrong, the point she makes is genuinely touching and cuts to the core of what’s so broken abt their relationship and really makes you wish things could’ve been better for them (as does the scene in the tower, later…) I just think there’s an element of actually Blind devotion here that’s much spicier than their usual dynamic, lol.
anddd with the arc just about over we’ve got to say goodbye to a few major & minor players I really enjoyed our time with:

I said a few weeks ago was the last time we were seeing ruki, but of course we do get to watch him get beheaded :( still kind of hope his father does get to avenge him someday, but him having to watch the execution silently in disguise while ruki calls out for him makes for such a miserable scene it’s fully juicy enough in its own right ❤️ han family delivers to the bitter end lol. Chou kou remains in my list of characters who I think it’s slightly more likely we’ll Actually see again, since notable courtiers/ministers are a slightly rarer breed I think he’s got a higher chance of being narratively useful .. tho if he doesn’t, his exit being as unceremonious as his arrival is also cute.
Unfortunately the anime didn’t make room for the extended how-far-we’ve-come first arc retrospective that shin and sei hold together on the tower at the end of the arc, so we don’t get to see the cute hyou panel that’s in the manga :( so sei’s little declaration of love will have to make up for it:

I love that he frames it as an order/command even though he’s orchestrated this part of his Big Plan at least partially just to create the stage shin has always dreamed of standing on; a major declaration of devotion, imo, even though he’s being overwhelmingly tsun about it. And now we’ve got our fifteen year timer going, it’s on to bigger things yet :) still only 1/6 nations subdued since then in the manga lol
