Carry You Home.
Short musing on Trona receiving the building where her new lab would be located.
Music:  ♫
“I mean just check this out!”
A voice rang across the interior of a cottage near the edge of Waterdeep. A quaint, round-shaped building with a few windows and a wooden door. The inside was empty short of two figure standing in the center between the building’s stone walls.
“It’s about time you got your own lab, Bird. A room at the inn while your party’s in town ain’t gonna fly for what you do. Especially not nowadays.”
The voice was warm, charming and coming from the male figure. He had brown hair and a warm smile like the amber glow of his eyes. His clothes were a cloak with layered leather armor displayed with the color of his eyes like a warm campfire.
Kalixer Hearthkeep, human rogue.
Across from him Trona turned her head round and round looking staring at the empty building.  “I... Do not understand.” she stammered.
Kalixer’s arms clapped against his sides with a huff out his nose and a shake of his head.
“Come on, you look like nobody’s ever bought you a building before,” he jested, clearly knowing the redundancy of his statement, “After we took down Alton and got his treasury, I squirreled some of his cash away for a few... ‘Personal projects’. One of them was this!”
The rogue gestured around with one hand at the building, a proud smile on his face.
Trona laced her fingers together, her mouth slightly agape beneath her scarf in awe as she pictured her notes lining the walls. Bolting up shelves for potion vials and having space for a full alchemy table.
“And-” Kalixer’s voice snapped the woman back to the present, “Got a loft right here for spare bed in case you have any stay-in patients.” He gestured above himself to a wooden platform.
“I see... W-well, this will certainly serve as a wonderful lab.” The alchemist nodded enthusiastically, fighting the change anxiety.
“This ain’t just a lab, Bird,” Kalixer remarked with a nod, “It’s a home. Your own roof, your own door, your own locks... The whole nine yards.”
“This is more accurately measured in square feet I’d assume-” Trona began.
“Yeah yeah, your math and all that it’s a figure of speech.” Kalixer waved a hand dismissively, “You’ve saved a lotta lives. Including all of ours probably a few times. S’bout time you got your own space to do it.”
The alchemist seemed to have trouble processing, the beak of her mask turning to several different sections of the empty building.
This was hers. A place to belong and to treat as her own rather than a holed up corner of a building occupied by others.
The whimsy of the prospect started to dawn on the alchemist as she rapidly paced around the room, her head turning on a swivel like an avian creature akin to her image.
“I could place an apothecary larder in this corner... There is ample space for notes on the walls over here! Or even perhaps a few shelves to store drying herbs I collect. To not have to venture out to a private location for my medicinal plants would certainly prove convenient and allow for more potent mixtures! Then I could also-”
The alchemist droned on and on, her feet pattering back and forth across the room as she pointed to each location she referred t as Kalixer watched with crossed arms and an amused smirk.
“Once we get your stuff in here and all sorted, you’ll be open for busi-”
Kalixer started to go on again but stopped as Trona awkwardly waddled up to him, her fingers nervously laced together as she stared up at him.
“Heh. Aheheh,” Kalixer chuckled, “Yeah, come on. Go ahead.”
Trona’s hands inched forward a couple inches before flinching backwards in a moment of hesitation before awkwardly embracing the rogue.
Kal had a slight grimace, turning his head with an awkward smile and patting the top of Trona’s hood until she let go.
“Thank you, Mr. Hearthkeep. I... I am not sure what to say.” Trona said.
“Don’t gotta say anything, Bird. You earned this place,” Kalixer replied,  “Figured if we can’t pay you for procedures even though you don’t charge for friends, or anyone for that matter, thought you’d at least get some reimbursement. Besides, better work space means better chance we stay above ground!”
“... Well, that’s not necessarily false.” Trona commented with a couple rapid nods.
Kalixer stared for a moment with raised eyebrows, “I’m gonna pretend that didn’t sound a little morbid. Come on, let’s get your stuff! Last week of rent for your place in the King’s Rest is on me. You don’t gotta pay a dime for this place.”
As the woman eagerly departed with the rogue, she could not help but look back at the building a few times as it left their sight. Even if they were to return shortly she could hardly wait.
The feeling the sight of it instilled in her chest was warm, comforting. A feeling it took her a moment to place, one that hadn’t graced the halls of her emotions for what felt like centuries.
It felt like home.

Art of Kalixer (my rogue) and his companion witch, Cinder drawn by her creator!
We’ve been using these two as our characters in my first ever DnD campaign that started roughly three years ago! She’s been his traveling companion and friend for a long time and this picture really captures their dynamic.
Check out more of Cinder’s art here!

New Character: Dahlia Black
I followed the Template I posted earlier for Bladeslinger Ranger (which can be found here) and finally gave a class to a character I’ve had for awhile!
Dahlia Black is the nickname for a mysterious blade-throwing Underdark dweller working as a Black Fist Double Agent and serving as the informant to my Rogue Kalixer Hearthkeep.
This character has been added to the (still unfinished) list of my DnD characters!
Dahlia Black - Human Bladeslinger Ranger
- Campaigns: None At The Moment - Background: Black Fist Double agent
- Character Appearance
Uneven cut/stylized dark hair with streaks of blonde. Cut shorter on left side compared to right underneath a bandanna.
Baggy pants with a mid-cut shirt and running shoes.
Tanned skin, piercing gold eyes.
- Personality Trait
People are only as trustworthy as you are valuable to them. Always strive to be the most valuable person around.
- Ideal
Seflessness: I use my position to help the downtrodden avoid persecution from authorities.
- Bond
My sister was killed by a Tear of Virulence, and I now feed them false information whenever possible.
- Flaw
My desire for vengeance often gets me into trouble.
- Backstory
Dahlia grew up under another name she has long since cast off for sake of anonymity. She is only known now by the name that the people of Undercommon dubbed her: Dahlia Black.
At the age of 19 she and her sister were wrongly accused of a crime by the Tears of Virulence. An officer falsely convicted her half-sister, Kahrii for murder. Dahlia's sibling tried to buy her time to escape and promptly was killed by the Tears in 'self-defense'.
A fire of vengeance and grief has surged in Dahlia ever since, seeking to lead the Tears of Virulence awry to their eventual destruction.
She was recruited two years later to the Black Fists where she became a double agent, changed her name/appearance and began to work undercover as a false advocate for the people she hates.
It turns her stomach every day to speak nicely to those she despises, but the memory of her sister pushes her on.
Working with the criminal underground, Dahlia also provides information to Kalixer Hearthkeep. His plight having inspired her the same way but also in sorts becoming a mentor to her in refining her skills she works closely with the thief.
