High School AU. I got some requests for a high school au, and I will be combining them instead of writing similar plots for them. Yes, Mikasa is goth and Eren is a wannabe with no aspirations. 

The school bell rings. The herd of tardy teenagers rush to their classroom before the minute bell rings. Eren walks the hallway knocking into people. He keeps glancing at the fading faces that cross him. Just get to class Eren, she’s not here, he thinks. 

“Hey, Eren!” Eren immediately turns to the voice and sees Armin waving at him. Eren stands on his tiptoes to see if Mikasa is with him. She’s always with Armin since they have art class for first period. 

He smiles as he sees short black hair bobbing right behind Armin. She’s wearing this black suspender dress that comes to her knees, with a white button up shirt with soft ruffles in her chest and a thin black bow around her collar, thus completing the look. He doesn’t realize that he stopped walking, as their eyes lock for a fleeting second when Jean bumps into him, hard.  

“Watch where you’re going you block head!” Jean stands tall before Eren and grabs his shirt. Eren is not bothered. Although he is on the skinny side, and the entire school thinks of him as a nerdy wannabe with no aspirations, he pushes Jean off him. “Let go of my shirt,” Eren shouts. 

He doesn’t notice when Armin and Mikasa rush to him. “Eren!” Eren immediately turns when Mikasa yells his name. She always manages to get his attention. 

He places a hand to his cheek wondering when his face got suddenly warm. There must be a heater nearby,  he thinks. He turns to Jean angrily. Both ready to throw punches at each other when Mikasa and Armin stand in between them. Armin is serious when he speaks, “The principal is right around the corner! You guys will sure get expelled.” 

Jean thinks it over and scoffs in defeat, “Watch where you’re going next time!” and leaves. Eren is about to go after him, but Mikasa places her hands to his chest, “Eren, please, I don’t want you getting expelled. You’ve gotten into too many fights this year, don’t you think.”  

Eren is speechless. He hadn’t thought of that. If he gets expelled that means no Mikasa, and no Armin. He realizes that her hands are still on his chest, making him afraid to move. Afraid that she will take them off. 

He notices her tense up and sees how pink tinges her cheeks. His stomach flutters as a kindle of hope wishes the blush is because of him. She slowly removes her hands, as the bell rings. Armin scowls, “We’re late for class.” 

Armin is about to go to class, when Eren stops him. “Hey, guys, what if we skip class?” 

“Eren! What?” Armin is appalled. 

Mikasa speaks calmly, “I don’t mind, I draw all the time, I can do without art class in the morning.” 

Eren can’t help but stare at her plum lipstick colored mouth as she speaks. She stares at Eren and purses her lips. “Do I have something on my lips?” She asks, genuinely concerned. Eren shakes his head hurriedly, “No, I was just, I wasn’t-” 

She giggles. Dammit, Eren, she’s going to think that you’re a perv!

They decide to hang out behind the bleachers in the football field, where they watch as Christa, the cheer captain tries her best to hype up the rest of her cheer squad by jumping excitedly with a mega phone to her mouth. 

“Hey, Eren!” He looks up as Christa speaks loudly on the megaphone and waves at him from afar. He gives a weak wave back at her, and she quickly gets back to what she’s doing.  

“Christa’s cute,” Armin says. 

“I guess,” Eren says with a shrug, not looking up. 

“I have to use the restroom,” Mikasa says as she stands up and leaves. 

Armin places his hand on Eren’s shoulder. “I’m your friend, right?” Eren nods, not understanding where Armin is heading with this. “What are you doing?” 

“About?” 

“Mikasa. I can see how you guys stare at each other, but you’re not making a move.” 

Eren sits there, frozen. Has he really been that obvious. Does Armin know something about how she feels about him? I hope it’s good, he thinks to himself.

Armin continues talking, “A boy asked her out in class.” 

“What?!” 

Eren doesn’t know how to respond to this. Of course someone would ask her out, who wouldn’t! 

“What did she say?” Eren asks with a slight panic to his voice. 

Armin shrugs casually, “She said yeah. The other day she asked me what you thought about her, but I didn’t know what to say. I panicked and told her you liked Christa.” 

Eren’s breath hitches as he feels his shoulders tense up and his face get hot. He can’t believe Armin said that! 

Armin shrinks back, “Eren, are you okay?” 

“Why would you tell her that? Armin!” Eren stands up and walks away. He doesn’t think about where he is heading. All he could think about is about Mikasa. He needs to clear things up, quick.

“Hey, Eren.” MIkasa stands before him, as she steps out of the bathroom. 

“Hey…”

She looks around the school as she walks with her hands on the straps of her backpack. Eren follows her. They walk next to each other in silence. 

“I heard you’re going on a date.” 

Mikasa nods and smiles at him. “He’s been asking for a while. Thought I’d give him a chance. The person I like doesn’t seem interested in me.” 

“You like someone else?” 

Mikasa smiles as her cheeks turn pink. “It doesn’t matter anymore. He likes someone else, so I rather not bother.” 

They are quiet for a bit. Eren chuckles. “Want to know what Armin told me just now? He thought that I liked Christa. I don’t.”

A small smile fights its way onto Mikasa’s face. He doesn’t know what it is, but a sudden surge of confidence takes over him. He tries to stand a little taller and smiles at Mikasa. He moves back and forth on his feet. 

“Mikasa, uhm… there’s this art gallery that I’m really interested in seeing. I don’t have the slightest clue about art, but you do. I was wondering if maybe you can go with me. Just us.” 

“Just us?” she asks.

“Just us. This weekend.”

“I can do that.” 

He can hear his heart beating in his ears that he doesn’t hear when the bell for first period rings. Students dash out of their classrooms ready to go to their next class. 

“I have to go to my next class, see you at lunch Eren.” 

“See ya.” 

He watches as Mikasa makes her way through the crowd. She glances back at him and smiles, he smiles back at her and waves goodbye. 

He stays in the same spot wondering to himself where this would lead and how he can’t wait for this weekend.
