from feeling you are on top of the world to watching your loved one in the coffin,life sure is unpredictable.
it was hard to comprehend why was this happening to christian,but there was nothing either of you could’ve done to bring his grandfather back to life. it all happened so quickly,he never had a chance to say goodbye to him.
to make timing even worser,it was a week before he planned to introduce you to him. it was about time because his grandfather wanted to meet who is that girl that got him utterly infatuated. not to mention he was the first one to hear all about you. it was not a secret that christian trusted his judgment very much.
even though unfortunately he never got to meet you,he was absolutely sure that you were “the one” for christian. the way his eyes light up everytime he would even think about you,the way he could not help to smile when he was taking about you… all the signs were there.
and yet there was not a single sign that was the last time he will ever see him alive and play chess with him. you immediately knew something terribly wrong happened when u saw a tear falling from his left eye after answering his sister’s call. quiet “what’s wrong” escaped from your lips as you sat down on floor next to him.
he still couldn’t process these news and it felt like time has stopped. all he could do at that moment melt down into your embrace.
it took him a while to realize that opening up is never not something to be ashamed of. he thought he was too tough to need help and didn’t wanted to be a bother to you with his rants.
eventually, you assured him when it’s all on him,it can feel like a lot. that’s not how it should be and it won’t be as long as he has you by his side. this was the first time he broke down in tears in front of you even though he showed vulnerability before,it was nothing like this.
it felt like hours passed before he managed to say devastating news out loud. this meant your trip to his family is gonna happen sooner than you planned. too bad it was under these unfortunate circumstances.
one of the reasons he didn’t really open to anyone because he couldn’t stand “i totally understand how you feel” sentence. already prone to over-analyzing everything,this just made him feel like nobody is actually listening. somehow you knew he hated hearing that and you never used it. even when you didn’t feel whatever was bothering him on your own skin,you did understand it.
however,this time you understand from your own experience. you were very close with your grandparents as a kid. they taught you pretty much there is to learn. reading,tying your shoelaces,writing,manners…and when both of them passed away in a short period of time,it felt unreal.
him and his grandfather had their thing and it was playing chess. after the funeral,christian wanted to see his room one last time. you wanted to give him privacy to do it but he wanted you to come with him. he took your hand and gently pulled you to him. when you entered room,his look was immediately on chess board next to vinyl recorder and you started to put pieces together.
“wait,that’s why you have tattoo of chess piece?”
“one of reasons,yeah. he taught me how to play when i was younger,but i am nowhere near level.”
“i didn’t even know you knew how to play it.”
“i guess i never mentioned it,but me and kante sometimes play it on plane. we always have good battles but it’s hard to beat him.”
“i’m here if you wanna feel like beth from queen’s gambit. absolutely clueless about how any of this is working.”
“hm,i think out of all people you would understand it. “
“why?”
“he used to say that life is like chess because it consists of very limited number of moves. you need to make good use of them and create your own opportunities-just like i did with you.”

Reflections on Marcuse’s critique of Analytic Philosophy
The mysticism of enlightenment philosophy and the analytic style that followed it can be understood as follows: privileging universals as metaphysically more significant than the particulars they pick out. For Marcuse, the truth of abstraction, is that for any particulars ‘xyz’, any abstraction which picks them out as having property ‘u’ , inherently reduces them to that common feature. In doing so, abstraction misses the richness of particulars; it fails to live up to them. And yet One-dimensional society needs to manufacture the notion that particulars are the ones that fail to live up to the universal.
It is not merely a platonic union of Logos (reasoning) and Eros (desire), it is also their paradoxical union and separation. The universal is more real than the particular, and therefore it cannot be desired in the same way. The universal unifies Logos and Eros and simultaneously conceals Eros, replacing it with a cold mystical eroticism (Marcuse, p.150). We are compelled by a reason which, due to this separation from Eros cannot recognize itself as particular. Hence we must mythologize the universality of Reason as a condition for the possibility of universals in general. Here we find the explanation for both the intuitionism of analytic philosophers (G.E Moore) and the transcendental arguments of Kant. Consider Nietzsche’s criticism of Kant in Beyond Good and Evil. “By virtue of a Faculty” is ultimately the explanation given for the discovered categories. Reason tells me ‘it must be so’ says Kant. Nietzshe asks ‘Why must synthetic Judgements be necessary?’, really they should “not ‘be possible’ at all; we have no right to them; in our mouths they are nothing by false judgements”.
Reason compels us, but we never question how or why it does so. This benefits one dimensional society. If our reason is not our reason, and rather a piece of a greater unified reason, then we can only understand ourselves as part of a singular whole. Even when the metaphysical myths underpinning our worldview crumble, analytic philosophy can only retreat farther into the reified universe of universals. “By classifying and distinguishing meanings, and keeping them apart, [wittgenstein] purges thought and speech of contradictions, illusions, and transgressions. But the transgressions are not those of ‘pure reason’. They are not metaphysical transgressions beyond the limits of possible knowledge, they rather open a realm of knowledge beyond common sense and formal logic” (Marcuse p.186). Common sense and formal logic are the only kinds of knowledge analytic philosophers tend to recognize because they cannot accommodate pluralist epistemologies.
Nowadays, if you were to ask a more open minded academic why we should only philosophize within the bounds of ordinary language, logic, or conceptual analysis, they would likely quickly praise other ways of thinking. But in practice there is powerful resistance to alternative modes of thought. It is not just that we cannot easily imagine what they would look like, it is that our engagement with the established norms is so deeply ingrained that we do not even know how we would start living our lives differently. In academics, the unspoken agreement is that for knowledge to be valuable it must make itself smaller and smaller; that it is more respectable to be an unknown expert than a local intellectual. In philosophy, this kind of work relegates itself to the trivial conceptual analysis, and strips itself of all transgressive potential from the get go. The welfare state provides safety, but it also establishes a hegemony wherein the citizen exists only in direct rapport with society as a whole. This relationship allows the desires of citizens to be manufactured through repressive desublimation, but this fact is hidden from them. The most powerful of these manufactured desires is Rationality, it is so deeply ideological that we no longer recognize it as erotic at all, nor can we conceive of the original life instinct it replaced.

Zihinlerindeki kalıba uyan veriler abartılmış, uymayanlar ise ego ve savunma mekanizmalarıyla rasyonalizasyon süzgeçlerinden geçirilerek elenmiş, önemsiz hale getirilmiştir. Bu sanal büyüklük inancı fazlasıyla abartılmış, yazılara, tavırlara, davranışlara yansıyan kibir halesi yaygınlaşmıştır. Bu kabından taşan kibirli hal ve davranışlara karşı gösterilen tepkiler de yine aynı mekanizmalar sonucunda Fenerbahçe’nin büyüklüğü inancını beslemiş, Fenerbahçe camiasi, kendi kendini onaylayan, dış dünyadaki tepkileri de onaylama vesilesine dönüştüren kapalı bir inanç grubuna dönüşmüştür.
Oysa zihinlerdeki büyük Fenerbahçe ile fani dünyadaki kanlı canlı Fenerbahçe arasında dağlar kadar fark vardır. Zihinlerdeki Fenerbahçe’nin büyüklüğü camia mensuplarında beklentilerin de yüksek olması sonucunu doğurur. Beklentilerle doğru orantılı başarı olmadığı için de klüp yöneticileri, teknik direktörler, oyuncular sürekli değiştirilir. Sürekli transfer yapılır, sürekli hoca değiştirilir, sürekli yönetimler değişir. Bu yüzden, klüp yönetimine yıllarca kaos ve kargaşa hakim olmuştur.
Fenerbahçe taraftarı, Fenerbahçe söz konusu olduğunda rüyalar aleminde uçuşa geçer, çünkü zihninde bir masal dünyası yaratmıştır. Bu masal dünyasının sırça köşkü ise kitle iletişim araçlarının yoğun bombardımanı sonucunda inşa edilmiştir. Aynı taraftar, gerçekliğin başka herhangi bir alanı söz konusu olduğunda her fani gibi, her fani kadar nesnel, tarafsız olabilmektedir.
Türk futbol dünyasının, yaklaşık yüz yıllık tarihinde, üç büyük klüp arasında maddi ve manevi açıdan büyük farklar olmamıştır. Buna karşılık Fenerbahçe’de, camia üyeleri arasında var olan yüksek beklentiler nedeniyle oluşan kaos, kargaşa ve istikrarsızlık diğer iki büyük klübe göre daha fazla yer tutmuştur. İmkanların eşit, yönetim ve istikrarsızlığın dengesiz olduğu bu koşullarda diğer iki büyük takımın Fenerbahçe’ye göre az da olsa daha başarılı olması gerekirken her üç klübün de başarı açısından kabaca aynı düzeylerde bulunması futbol dünyamızın loş kalmış köşelerinin ağırlıklı olarak sarı lacivert renklerle bezenmiş olmasıyla açıklanabilir ancak.
Fenerbahçe ve diğer iki büyük klüp arasındaki arzu, istek ve beklenti farkı klüplerin başarı çizgisinden de izlenebilir. Galatasaray ve Beşiktaş takımları 14-15 yıl gibi uzun süreler şampiyonluk hasreti çekmişken bu süre Fenerbahçe camiasında 5-6 yıldan öteye gitmemiştir. Beşiktaş ve Galatasaray takımları istikrarlı şampiyonluk serilerini daha kolay yakalarken, Fenerbahçe aynı istikrarı yakalayamamıştır. Beşiktaş ve Galatasaray daha huzurlu ve sakin yönetilirken Fenerbahçe bir türlü kargaşadan kurtulamamıştır.
Fenerbahçe taraftarlarının zihninde yaratılan büyük Fenerbahçe imgesinin altı yıllarca doldurulamamıştır. İslam Çupi’nin, “Fenerbahçe büyüklüğü ne şampiyonluk büyüklüğü, ne kupa büyüklüğüdür. Onun büyüklüğü başka bir büyüklüktür işte,adı konamaz... " ibaresinde görüldüğü gibi zihinlerde ve gönüllerde olan büyüklük bir türlü tanımlanamamaktadır çünkü dış dünyada bu imgeye tekabül eden bir büyüklük bulunmamaktadır.
Galatasaray’ın 2000 yılının Mayıs ayında UEFA kupasını alması ise Fenerbahçe taraftarlarının gerçek dünyadaki sıradan Fenerbahçe gerçeği ile kendi zihinlerindeki büyük Fenerbahçe sanrısı arasında ördükleri kalın zırhta derin bir delik açarak büyük bir travmaya yol açmıştır. Zihinlerde ve gönüllerde Fenerbahçe en büyüktür ama dış dünyada büyüklüğün en somut göstergesi olan Avrupa başarılarında Galatasaray öndedir. Egoları sarsan, gururları ayaklar altına alan bu gerçeği silmenin yolu olan daha büyük bir başarıyı kısa vadede yakalamak ise hayaldir. Bu durumda zihinlerdeki büyük Fenerbahçe imgesini korumak için , dış dünyadaki büyüğü, en azından kendi evinde sürekli yenmek, yaraları sarmanın en kolay yolu haline gelir.
Yine futbol dünyamızın loş sarı lacivert köşelerinde kalan bir seri sonucunda bir Saraçoğlu efsanesi yaratılmıştır. Dış dünyada en başarılı, en büyük Galatasaray’dır, ama zihinlerdeki en büyük Fenerbahçe, en büyüğü sürekli yenmektedir. Yaralar sarılmış, ego tamir edilmiş, kırılan gurur ayağa kaldırılmıştır. Yaşar Kemal’in “Dağın öte Yüzü” üçlemesinde anlattığı yoksul ve çaresiz köylülerin yaşama tutunmak için ürettiği ermiş köylü Taşbaş efsanesi gibi Saraçoğlu Efsanesi yaratılmış ve ona tutunulmuştur.
İttire, kaktıra yaratılan Saraçoğlu efsanesi giderek kendine doğrulayan bir kehanete dönüşmüş, her iki camianın, oyuncusundan yöneticisine kadar bütün mensuplarının kendilerine biçilen rolleri kanıksamaları ve o rollere (gardiyan ve mahkum) uygun kişilik ve tavırlar sergilemesiyle sonuçlanmıştır. Böylece çok ciddi sonuçlara yol açabilecek bir travma hasarsız olarak atlatılmıştır.
Galatasaray’ın UEFA kupasını kazanması ise benzer tutum, davranış ve tepkilerin Galatasaray camiası mensuplarında da ortaya çıkmasıyla sonuçlanmış, taraftarların zihninde az da olsa maddi bir temeli olan “Büyük Galatasaray” imgesi doğmuştur. Fenerbahçe’nin yıllarca içinde kıvrandığı ortama bu defa Galatasaray yuvarlanmış, istikrarsızlık, sürekli transfer ve hoca değişiklikleri olağan uygulamalar haline gelmiştir. UEFA kupası yolunda, içine düşülen borç tuzağı, yükselen beklentilerle beslenen transferlere, istikrarsız yönetimlere yol açmış ve sonunda takımın ve klübün dibe vurmasıyla sonuçlanmıştır. UEFA kupasıyla başlayan ve Saraçoğlu efsanesiyle sonuçlanan travmanın nedeni olan dış dünyadaki “Büyük Galatasaray” imgesi yerle bir olmuş, Fenerbahçe’nin Aziz Yıldırım yönetimindeki uzun istikrarlı yönetiminde yapılan alt yapı hamleleri en azından futbol dışındaki dallarda meyvelerini vermeye başlamış, gerek Türkiye gerek Avrupa seviyesinde şampiyonluklar teker teker kayıtlara geçmeye başlamış, böylece “Büyük Fenerbahçe” imgesi yeniden kurulmuş, işlevini, var oluş nedenini yitiren Saraçoğlu efsanesinin Saraçoğlu’nun çimlerine gömülmesi bir çıkmayan kırmızı kart hatasına bakmıştır.

For those wondering:
The popular conception of the Cuil is heavily informed by the thought of Immanuel Kant. In The Critique of Pure Reason, Kant lays out what he describes as his "Copernican Revolution". He insists that the world we experience is informed by the world as it truly is and the restraints of our own consciousness. Thus, we can never really know what's happening in the world as it truly exists except that it has a role in shaping the world that we experience. Kant believed this realization was similar to realizing that the sun, not earth, is at the center of the solar system.
Cuil Philosophers believe that as the study of Cuil advances, we'll approach an understanding that will show that the Cuil level of a situation is equivalent to the number of sets of limits of consciousness are being superimposed over the world as it really is.
For example, a 2 Cuil abstraction occurs when the world as it truly is informs a world of experience in conjunction with one set of consciousness constraints, and that the world of experience would then inform a second world of experience in conjunction with a second set of consciousness constraints.

Anyway I've (and others) brought this Afrikaans lesson before and I understand it's been settled yes?
But let's say it again. "Kant" is not "C U Next Tuesday", Afrikaans has different words for that. "Kant" means "Side" or is a type of material.
I'm not fluent in insults and curse words but "kant" is not one. Unless someone is being very extra and creative, though nothing comes to mind personally.

week one
During the in-class group discussion I had with Tony on the concept of 'Sublime’, we arrived at a concise definition. We perceived it as the profound connection we feel with something we consider truly beautiful, leading to a sense of satisfaction and fulfilment. However, it's important to acknowledge that 'beauty' is inherently indefinable, making the topic open to controversy and subjectivity within different contexts.
Drawing from my personal experiences, I have found nature to be the most evocative source of intense beauty. The sheer scale and the enigmatic sensory experiences it offers have triggered deep emotions within me. Nevertheless, it is essential to recognize that comprehensiveness holds equal significance to physical magnificence when considering the ‘Sublime’.
After conducting a thorough investigation from both philosophical and psychological perspectives, several inspiring ideas for the project emerged.
The research began with a comparison of two renowned concepts of the 'Sublime’. Edmund Burke, in his 1757 essay ‘A Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of Our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful’, offered a detailed definition of the concept. Similarly, Immanuel Kant also referenced a different perspective in his work ‘Critique of Judgment’.
In essence, Burke's exploration of aesthetics revolves around observing the disparities in human physiological experiences, specifically by discerning between "pleasure" and "pain" to define the sensation of beauty. While his theoretical framework might not be as profound as Longinus' theory of the Sublime, Burke argues that pleasure leads to the feeling of ’beauty‘, representing the realm of the graceful, a concept familiar to us and requiring no further elaboration. On the other hand, the Sublime corresponds to a "pleasure in pain," which is intriguing, aligning with our common understanding of an experience that is both "painful and pleasurable." According to Burke, this kind of experience constitutes the aesthetic sense of the Sublime.
The Sublime, in Burke's view, is not merely a response to great or extraordinary objects; rather, it emerges as a physiological experience when individuals encounter terrifying or psychologically distressing things, resulting in a 'pleasure in pain.' Burke dismisses the idea that physical pain can create aesthetic pleasure, as it contradicts common sense. However, the question arises: what constitutes psychological pain? This experience includes not only immediate suffering but also the recollection of past suffering, known as "reproduction." Therefore, psychological pain is confined solely to the mental realm, and aesthetics do not inflict genuine harm on us. Nonetheless, this explanation remains somewhat ambiguous. What precisely constitutes inner torment, and where lies the boundary between psychological and physical pain? For those terrifying things that cause us distress, what qualifies as aesthetic and what does not? Does experiencing aesthetic pleasure due to psychological pain imply that humans are masochistic?
The answer, according to Burke, is straightforward. As aesthetic subjects, we maintain an absolute distance, both physiologically and psychologically, from naturally terrifying objects during the aesthetic process. When we sense fear and psychological distress from those entities, we are well aware that our bodies or minds are not under any threat from the sublime object. The terrifying object can only be transformed into an aesthetic sublime object when it does not pose a threat to our lives.
Burke's explanation is reasonable and relatable to our daily lives. We can understand this by imagining our feelings while watching horror movies. It is the contradiction of wanting to continue watching out of curiosity or suspense while also fearing that a ghost might suddenly scare us. However, in reality, the audience is aware that the ghost is merely a character portrayed by an actor. This contradictory psychology drives us to experience the Sublime aesthetics of horror movies, where pleasure in pain arises while maintaining a significant distance between ourselves and the terrifying objects.
In summary, Burke posits that for something to become a 'sublime object,' it needs to possess terror-inducing qualities, which he breaks down into characteristics such as 
immense size, loud sounds contrasting with silence (extreme atmospheres)
vagueness, obscurity, and disharmony (as seen in the terror of ghosts)
roughness, disorder, and grandeur (as seen in oversized cathedrals or gigantic "ghost puppets")
the interplay of light and colour (e.g. lighting and darkness). 
In the context of Burke and Kant's perspectives on aesthetics, a fundamental distinction arises. Burke emphasizes the psychological aspect, while Kant views aesthetics as an expression of subjective freedom. Kant astutely observes that aesthetic emotions are not mere physiological or psychological responses but rather judgments of knowledge, which he terms "judgments of taste." These judgments evoke aesthetic pleasure through reason and intellect without generating new knowledge.
In contrast to Burke's notion of pleasure and pain in aesthetics, Kant's concept of the sublime delves into encounters with almost contradictory or extreme elements. However, for Kant, the sublime does not lie in objects that cause physiological pleasure, such as those mentioned by Burke. While experiencing both pleasure and pain when watching horror movies may resemble the sublime, it does not necessarily encompass pure aesthetic appreciation. The presence of reason in this experience gradually leads to cognitive implications, potentially undermining the sense of pleasure and pain.
According to Kant, the sublime's presence is not within the terrifying objects or horror movies themselves, but rather in the subjective anticipation of the thrill-seeker who finds aesthetic value in the terrifying spectacle. In essence, the sublime is a projection of the subject's attitude, where seeking novelty in the thrill aligns with sublime aesthetics.
Aesthetic judgments, as per Kant, do not solely affirm objective objects' beauty, but they affirm the subject's self-construction of beauty and the factors of beauty evoked within. Thus, aesthetic pleasure varies among individuals and may lead to fatigue upon repeated exposure to the same stimuli. The continuous process of self-affirmation may give rise to a contradictory element within aesthetics.
In conclusion, aesthetics revolves around the human subject and their intricate interplay with the objects and experiences they encounter, resulting in diverse and subjective expressions of beauty and the sublime.
Project Idea Brainstorms 
Project 1
Based on the skills and interests I mentioned earlier, I am drawn to the idea of conducting a project that explores the concept of the Sublime with a sense of terror. One approach could be through the Capitol lighting system, where I can create a simulation of lighting and thunderstorms juxtaposed with elements of the Sublime. This combination aims to evoke intense emotions and sensations in the audience, capturing the awe-inspiring power of nature and its ability to evoke both fear and fascination. Ultimately to create an immersive and captivating experience that showcases the sublime aspects of nature and its potential to leave a lasting impact on viewers.
One interesting artwork series that captured my interest while researching was ‘Sublime’ by Xinwu Xu. Xu's series of works emphasize panoramic and interactive spatial installations, and the selection of technological green, blue, and red colours also reflects the intangible digital curtain. As a fully immersive installation, it intrudes into our daily lives, hinting at a new sense of the sublime hidden behind the digital curtain. The use of rigid straight lines breaks through chaos and creates a confrontation between continuity and discontinuity, clarity and ambiguity. These elements occasionally intertwine, forming a concealed interconnection within the loops constructed by the paintings.

In William Butler Yeats’s poem "The Gyres," the initial imagery presents a face without a body, communicating with readers through enigmatic references to ancient philosophy and mysterious tales. The deliberate absence of specific details creates a disorienting and hallucinatory effect, evoking the concept of the 'sublime' or, more precisely, Yeats' notion of 'tragic joy.' According to Yeats, 'tragic joy' embodies encounters with elements that are almost paradoxical or highly extreme. Throughout the poem, the recurring mention of the 'gyre' emphasizes that people are ceaselessly contemplating, seeking meaning within the realm of the meaningless, ultimately discovering truth in this state of perpetual cycles. The significance lies in embracing the absurdity of existence and finding meaning in the very senselessness that pervades eternity.
This poem gave me the inspiration to create a visual narrative that captures the essence of the poem. Utilize abstract and symbolic imagery to represent the face without a body, ancient philosophies, and mysterious tales. Experiment with visual effects that evoke a sense of disorientation and hallucination. Incorporate elements of contrast and contradiction to reflect the idea of 'tragic joy' and the paradoxical encounters.
Project 3 
Another idea that came to mind during class was to draw and map out visual motions that capture ‘Sublime’ through music/audio. By considering the intensity and dynamics of the music and how they translate into visual motions. I want to create abstract visualisations and use elements like lines, shapes, colours, and particles to represent the movement and emotion of the music.
Project 4
Another intense image I had in mind was a sublime volcanic experience. Volcanoes are inherently dramatic and evoke a sense of beauty and terror, making them a perfect fit for exploring the notion of the sublime. An interesting aspect that can be explored in this subject is to mimic heat and temperature to simulate the warmth and intensity of a volcanic environment through effects such as lighting/colour and other elements to create the rise in audiences’ body temperature.

Can someone provide a summary of the book "David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants" by Malcom Gladwell?
COMMENTARY:
I haven’t read any of his books. I discovered him on YouTube which I depend on for raw data because it;s too hard to be able to read a book, comfortably. I miss the physical pleasure of reading, my eyes scanning across familiar and novel symbols in different ways until the voice of the narrative takes over control of my thinking. I’ve reviewed some of the criticism of Gladwell, and much of it misses the point. Much of the criticism sounds like the right wing response to Critical Race Theory. Gladwell is cutting through a lot of misinformation pretty surgically What he doesn’t offer is a practical process for change.
Now, the dynamics Gladwell is bumping against are described in Paul Krugman’s Peddling Prosperity. You can see the mathematics in Penn and Teller in Hegel’s Historical Gestalt Gladstone is bouncing off of.
Some of the criticism of Gladstone had to do with Broken Windows and Abortions theme, To understand how Hegel fits into this, add Trump Tower to the mix, which had far more to do with the usp-side of the Inverted U than either Guiliani’s petty crime campaign or abortions. Hey hey,
Ik ga iets posten. Ma je moet het eigenlijk niet lezen. Ik zag een video over hoe de pijn van een break up voor beide partijen tremendous is en een goeie break up zijn best doet om die pijn tot een minimum te houden. Hetgeen Wa ik schreef gaat da nie doen. Het bevat schuld en boosheid en da zijn twee dingen waar je eigenlijk nie mee moet dealen. Dit is iets puur mij, not you. Je moet er niet mee dealen. Ik weet da ik die deze post maak, al een negatieve invloed gaat hebben. Because you’re obviously tempted to read it en oftewel doeje het en voel je u slecht oftewel moeje leven me de kennis da er een extra brief is die ge best nie direct leest. Gelijk de appel van Eva ofzo :^). So I’m sorry.
Het komt wel op dit neer: ik merkte da in uw eerste post er twijfel was rond of deze break up uiteindelijk een stap was naar elkaar weer toe. I understand that you have these thoughts, but can you not mention it in future gesprekken? Ik denk nie da we elkaar moeten verlaten me da in het achterhoofd. Dit is is eigenlijk een definitieve departing en we should respect it like that :).
Begin post:
Die avond daje na mij kwam was echt life changing. Ik zat me u neer in de zetel en hoorde u boodschap. Er zat zoveel weerstand naar, but I prayed and prayed en prayed… tot ik die harde boodschap voelde door dringen. Tesamen me da kwam er ongelooflijke drive na boven, de drive om verder te gaan me ons. I would call it onuitputtelijk , because it was powered by the fact I love you. En I still do. Merci om da in gang te zetten. I will put it to great use when in conflict with my friends and family, tis echt een source van love waar ik eerder nie aan kon.
Maar ik zit ook me hurt.
De periode van onze tweede break-up ging van start me ik die u ruimte moest geven. Ge ging het druk hebben me school en I just needed to give you space.
So I did that. Ik gaf u die ruimte. Een maand geleden had ik da nie gekund, ma doorda ik net een manier had gevonden om mijzelf er aan te herinneren hoe graag ge mij zag, kon ik doorgaan. Ik had ook mijn issues met de relatie, en die vroegen eigenlijk het vlak tegenovergestelde om onze relatie op te lossen, Ma ik besloot om da aan de kant te zetten even. Da had ik er zo voor over om verder me jou te gaan.
Ik gaf u ruimte, me als doel om te oefenen in “laat het gebeuren, das oké, liefje komt wel terug”. En then you didn’t.
This is a great source of sadness. Waar jij misschien het gevoel hebt da de drive voor onze relatie uitgedoofd was, kan ik enkel heartbroken zijn liefje :( Im sorry. Ik snap u tho.
Ik besef da dit allemaal heel egoïstisch is om te zeggen, want ik weet da gij ook heartbroken zijt. Ik heb ook nie de juiste dingen gedaan om u het gevoel te geven da we verder konden. So I’m sorry for that. Maar gewoon de timing van alles maakt het eindelijk echt Stinky. Ik heb nie kunnen zien hoe je voor mij ging.
So slay this dragon with me liefje, voor de laatste keer samen.
Ik merkte da er in u eerste post twijfel zat over de route die we nog gaan afleggen. Will we get back together or stay friends vroeg je u af.
En hoe graag ik ook verderleef me het idee Wa wij ooit terug iets worden,is da nie hetgeen Wa er kan gebeuren. We moeten elkaar laten gaan. Definitief. We tried. Ik wil zeggen da het is because you broke my heart, but it isn’t. I love you too much. Maar als je dit leest wil ik echt daje er op let om nie over ons alsof er nog een toekomst is :(. It feels a little disrespectful.
So I would like you to stop talking or mentioning the possibility of us getting back together. Kan je da doen? De vriend in mij vraagt da :).

That's kinda how i feel abt philosphytube tbh. Like if the subject of the video is something i don't spend much time thinking abt, the videos can be interesting and give me a new perspective. But if im already familiar with the subject, there can still be good moments and im sure those videos are important to some people but they don't always feel like they're made for me.
yea agreed it feels like a lot of these 'leftist' youtubers esp the more prominent ones give more of an introduction to some ideas than they do an exhaustive interpretation imo !! which, as u said, is important, but also not the End of exploring a subject

do you have any recs for people trying to understand philosophy? all i know are the classics we learned at school and actual philosophy books are kinda hard to understand if u don’t know the basics
yes!! my first book was anthony kennys western philosophy (i read it in translation but i really liked his prose and i found it very beginner friendly, sadly it’s just western philosophy, like the name suggests). it’s structured chronologically which was a big help! i haven’t read these for philosophy but i really like the very short introduction series, so perhaps pick up one of those? my go to solution for philosophy is that if i don’t understand something i’ll go listen to the relevant episode of the philosophize this podcast and that always clear things up for me. stanford encyclopedia of philosophy is a huge lifesaver. on youtube chrashcourse philosophy, the school of life, and academy of ideas can be of help.
aside from all the resources, what i found most hard in the beginning was the sheer grandity of it. philosophy is one of those things were everything said is connected to something else, so every theory is usually just a reaction to another theory. and since philosophy has been around since the ancients, there’s a lot of them. don’t let that scare you. i found it helpful to start at the beginning, with the ancient greeks, a group called the pre-socratics. (again i have a huge gap of knowledge from not learning about eastern philosophy, but im working to change that!)
also last tip: knowing the basics is better than knowing the details. and, at the beginning, stick to reading summaries or explanations of a theory or concept, rather than reading the actual original text (an exception is camus, who i think actually writes in a more kind way — on this note: stay away from kants original writing!!! at least in the beginning). i could go on a rant here about how i find most philosophical writing superfluous and intentionally difficult to read, but i will spare you (on this note, might not be relevant for beginners but martha nussbaums writing on this is really interesting, basically her point is that philosophical writers need to fiction-ize their dry academic writing).
this is getting too long so ill end it here but send me another q if u have more questions! and good luck on your studies! a lot of people will think philosophy boring, but personally it’s been one of the most life changing things ive learned — it opened my eyes to so many new ways of thinking, and i remember feeling so dizzy the first few weeks of my studies just from how much my mind was blown away by re-examining old beliefs and thoughtpatterns :’-) have fun <3

Another one of Darboven’s maxims: “I write with numbers, I count with words.” What do numbers write? Dates, yes, but dates as equations, as representations broken down into other signs, other representations. What do words count? “Today” is written often, and often crossed out, like a date on a calendar, and the present counts (always) as one, just as the past is just another present, and any one throws us back into the notion of the written number, to another “one,” to citation, which is always representation without representation. “I write and don’t describe. One one is one two 2 Two is one two 2.” Darboven’s infamous “u” is typically read as either banal graphic symbol or simple repetition, missing the material point that “u” in German works as an ampersand in English, as the graphic equivalent to “und” (“and”). The metronome drone uuuuuuu… thus becomes the plainsong &&&&&&&…, and its crossing-out, the enactment of a present-tensed past. Sign as word, word as number, number as written, counting words. Signifier signifying in the old-school sense of deploying a variety of contradictory rhetorical moves in a single, frequently quotational, gesture. (...)
Kant described the sublime as that which eludes direct comprehension. There are two Kantian categories of the sublime: mathematical and dynamic. The mathematical sublime is a quantitative measure–the thing is too big for our understanding (mountain); the dynamic is qualitative–the thing is too forceful to be grasped (storm). The trump card is the understanding itself: the sublime is pleasurable because we can experience it relative to what we know versus what we experience; the sublime is unpleasant because it provokes the limits of what we can know (or imagine). Hegel resolves the problem of the limit via Absolute Knowledge, the knowledge of all things, perceptible via scientific systems–scientific systems which exist, however, according to Kant, within the predicates of time and space. Is Darboven not recreating the very problem of the sublime while tweaking its significance? Playing the quantitative and qualitative registers of too-muchness, but much of this de trop is detritus. In this, Darboven mirrors our digital age where the time/ space place is full of informational jewels and junk in no particular perceptible order, indistinguishable in their basic digitized form. All we know are symbols, symbolic of nothing in themselves but the process of symbolism itself. One and one are one one.Or, as Slavoj Zizek has put it: “The Symbolic is above all a place, a place that was originally empty and subsequently filled with the bric-a-brac of the symbolic order.”
