Airplane! (1980)
This is a Movie Health Community evaluation. It is intended to inform people of potential health hazards in movies and does not reflect the quality of the film itself. The information presented here has not been reviewed by any medical professionals.
Airplane! has a dance sequence that uses a disco ball and some patterned lights, which may create some minor strobe effects. Most of the establishing shots of the plane at night include moments of lightning strikes, which produce severe but brief strobe effects.
The dance sequence mentioned above has a brief spinning shot. The camera shakes briefly during scenes depicting airplane turbulence.
Flashing Lights: 7/10. Motion Sickness: 4/10.
TRIGGER WARNING: A man asks a boy wildly inappropriate questions. We hear one man vomit off-screen, with a few seconds of warning. One gross-out gag shows human feces on-screen. Some humor is based on racial stereotypes.

“I especially like the last half when Vilray also sings, adding a mellow counterpoint to her bluesy voice,” Kareem Abdul-Jabbar writes of Rachael & Vilray’s performance of “Goodnight My Love,” from their new album, I Love a Love Song!, in his latest Substack. “In the last few seconds of the song, Rachael hits some notes that make you lean forward to listen more intently. You won’t realize you were holding your breath until the song is over.” You can read his post here.
