"I like this morally grey character with villainous motives and intentions because they've suffered unspeakable tragedy as a young person and have witnessed bigotry and hatred firsthand and I relate to them because of it and even though they're not going about it the right way their heart's in the right place" and "I like this morally grey character with villainous motives and intentions because they're hot" are ideas that can coexist

Jo March & Beauty Standards (Video Essay)
youtube
This time Christina and I are chatting about the fact that Friedrich Bhaer has never been played by an actual German actor in a major Little Women film adaptation, despite the fact that Louisa May Alcott was nuts about Germany. We are chatting about Daniel Brühl and the presentation of Germans in the modern media and the little women beauty standards.

I don’t know who decided fandom!Davey was shy and stuttery, but on his first day he corrected the Delancey brothers, rejected Jack, then continued to be the sass master for the rest of the show, but whoever you are, screw you.

Book Review: The Bodyguard by Katherine Center
Tumblr media
Sometimes I need to toss a trope-y, upbeat romantic comedy into the belly of my reading life. It's a requirement to help me survive this often bleak world we're living in. After all, don't we all deserve a delighted laugh and some heart flutters every once in a while? The Bodyguard more than delivered the sugar and sunshine I was craving. Call it a fictional refresher, if you will. A romantic reset for those of us who are in need of a bowl-full "oh, so this is love" sweetness. The plot, which does stretch the limits of belief at times, is fun and humorous. Hannah Brooks is an Executive Protection Agent who is hired to protect hunky hotshot actor, Jack Stapleton, from his corgi-breeding stalker. She's recently lost her mother and is reeling from a breakup with one of her work colleagues, who, I must say, is a complete you're-no-good-at-kissing arse. Jack, on the other hand, has been out of the limelight since his brother's tragic death a few years ago. When his mother gets diagnosed with cancer, he decides to move back to the family Texas ranch to help out and keep her comfortable. Not wanting to upset his family further with news of his deranged stalker, he persuades Hannah to pretend to be his girlfriend as cover. Sounds easy-peasy enough, no? Of course, it isn't long between the lines between fake dating and real feelings start to blur between them...and to blur good. If I had to characterize this book in one word, I'd call it welcoming. There's something warm and colorful and inviting about it. A lot of that has to do with Jack's family, who had a While You Were Sleeping energy about them since they ushered Hannah into their ranks as if she already belonged there, but it also has to do with the slow burn trust and realness that grows between the main pairing. Jack becomes a safe space for Hannah to rest her head, to lay down her baggage, and she is someone who can see beyond his celebrity to see him for who he truly is: just a man. So cute and fluffy. Full of emotional self-discovery. Exactly what the love doctor ordered! Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC.
4/5 stars

TODAY IS FLORENCE PUGH’S BIRTHDAY!!
Not only did I succeed in my filmography marathon this week ending tonight with Black Widow, I managed to get my drawing done for her as well.
I planned this for probably almost a year when I saw the prompt bc it was just so her 😆
Tumblr media
This is my first time drawing Florence herself and I think she is quite adorable as a chibi lol. Scattered throughout the picture you will see references to some of the projects that she’s been in as well as just herself in general.
I actually contemplated DM’ing this to Florence on instagram but idk if I want to lol. Yes it is for her and I do plan to somehow give it to her in person someday but the thought of actually sending it to her directly scares me for some reason lol 😅 idk it’s just really elaborate and I just genuinely want her to like it 🥺💕
Well til she sees it I hope you all enjoy it! Blood, sweat, and tears went into this thing lol
