The Contract - Scene 20 (Conclusion) A #fouragainstdarkness Campaign In Scene 19, Omari improved yet another weapon; Sarcosuchus' tough hide increased the poundage of Kaverell's crossbow and the croaked croc's cracked bones provided channels to hold two bolts. The reptile's remains roasted over the fire as Leron masked them with Magic Mist and another Kato-less day ended. The trio of traveler trekked the last few miles to arrive at their homebase at the same time as a retiring bard and a try-hard troubadour. Gudrun (Kato) had managed lodging and passage by regaling a few embellished versions of their more entertaining exploits. Reunited, our quartet settled in to recover and refocus their skills. Appetized by the ambrosiatic aroma of the amphora, Omari sampled their nectar and discovered the limits of his omnivorous diet. Enraged by the putrid profile of the pitcher plant's poison, he recklessly uprooted the vile vegetation, inadvertently blinding Kaverell in the process. Leron acted as the assassin's eyes, but failed to consider their height difference, leading Kaverell into the sharp trichomes of two more sarracenia. The three escaped the garden, though mostly blinded, embittered, and embarrassed. Now, we rejoin our party plodding through the swamp on this questionable shortcut. TL;DR 🥵🤬🌷🧭😖 The Contract - Scene 15 (A #fouragainstdarkness Campaign) In Scene 14, our triad of travelers tried to sleep, planning to leave camp in the morning with or without Kato, who had been gone since that morning. During Omari's watch, a racket of banshees ambushed Leron and Kaverell, immobilizing them where they woke. The wicked fangs of Ogre-Bite were ineffective against the gaseous ghosts, but the enraged ogre managed to swing his mace with enough force to blow away two banshees, freeing Kaverell. The assassin hastily dispatched the third banshee to rescue Leron. His shot pierced an essential element of the banshee, and the bolt adopted some of her properties. They chose not to wait for morning and continued their trek into the swamp in the pre-dawn hours. As he approached the southwestern Sun Gate, he forged a disguise as an out-of-work blacksmith between anvils. Amateur guards challenged his claim, and though they didn't see through Kato's façade, they knew they didn't know enough to trust a wandering smith with three hatchets and no hammers.
