tonight on “LU safe haven drama”

one of the admins posted this to the announcements channel. do with it what you will.

“Hi everyone. I want to take a moment to address some concerns you guys brought up over our additions to rule 4.

 What it boils down to is this: some LGBT works would probably be perfectly fine and appropriate to share here, but many others wouldn’t. However, because we cannot clearly delineate between what would be fine and what wouldn’t be, we’ve decided to take the safer route and not allow works in that category altogether. We don’t want there to be arguments or controversy over why work A was allowed in the server, but work B wasn’t, etc.

 There’s a big difference in tone between, for example: “this is my OC, here’s all these awesome things about him and his story, oh and he happens to be LGBT,” versus, “this is my OC and they’re LGBT, so if you don’t like them that means you’re automatically a bigot”. Obviously these are two extremes, but I frame it this way because the grey area in-between is nearly impossible to draw a clear line through. I don’t want to be splitting hairs over what kinds of LGBT works or headcanons we’d be okay with, versus what we wouldn’t be okay with. That gives the mods too much discretion and, like I mentioned earlier, opens the door to a whole lot of drama that we don’t want to deal with.

 I hope you can understand our stance on this matter. Please keep in mind that this rule applies only to fictional works, headcanons, etc. If you want to discuss LGBT topics you’re free to do so in the Perspectives channels, and if you are LGBT or in a LGBT relationship, that’s not something you need to hide here. Just be respectful about it if it happens to come up in conversation (that goes for both sides—remember rule 5).”

Seeing all this Ganlink is making me wanna toss my own AU onto the pile~

It’s basically a soft soulmate!AU and mashup of Minish Cap and Ocarina of Time, wherein in Hyrule, there’s a legend about Kinstones. You find half of one at a random point in your life, as if put there by fate, and if you meet and fuse Kinstone pieces with someone who has the other half, they’re destined to be your soulmate.

It’s mostly Hylians who believe in this legend, what with there being so many different cultures, though not impossible, but even so it’s a very big surprise when Ganondorf finds one of his own, though he doesn’t entirely understand what they are or what they mean despite spending the occasional week or so there on business trips to the castle.

Link has one too and is very secretly romantic about it, hoping someday to find The One to fuse it with, but almost ran out of hope because nobody’s ever matched his. And then, naturally, one day him and Ganondorf cross paths and discover that their Kinstones were a perfect match. Not so perfect that they have to keep it a secret from everybody though.

Some other fun facts about the AU is that it’s a sort-of rewrite of Ocarina of Time where:

- Ganondorf’s biggest goal is more land for his people and is trying to be more diplomatic about it. He’s keenly aware of the affect power has on people, and hates the way the Hylian King- King Dorom Taraghlan Hyrule- wields his. - Ganondorf is reluctant to bring war to Hyrule because fire and death leave a bad taste in his mouth, but he will if push comes to shove because he’s roughly this 👌 close to snapping. - Link was raised as an orphan in the town of Hyrule and was something of a thief, wanting a better life but kind-sorta accepting that this was his lot in life. - Zelda has had visions of disaster and believes Ganondorf is the reason why, but there’s more to them she doesn’t realize, among other things. - Both Link and Zelda are besties and meet when they were young, while Zelda was training under Impa, who accepts Link under her wing as well. - Impa is more aligned with Zelda than her father because she feels bad that her people are being relegated to torturers and feared agents of the shadows. Shadows, yes, but she wants peace as much as Zelda (and, to an extent, even Ganondorf) does.

It’s just a very fun and sweet story about soulmates, forbidden love, Link going “I can fix him” while Ganondorf is all “I can make him worse” and falling in love and character growths and discovering dark secrets of a shining kingdom’s throne.

I could go on and on (and I most likely will later now that I’ve opened the floodgates) but for now that’s the basic gist of it! :D
