When I moved into my first apartment I was given some oven pads from my parents’ kitchen, and since then I’ve never actually gone out and bought my own, they’ve always been gifts or hand-me-downs. I finally wore out some and got tired of the rest, so I ditched them all and bought four new ones -- two plain square oven pads and these two mitts.
The amount of joy owning a STAY FOCUSED oven mitt has given me cannot be measured using earthly means. Both of them make me happy but my STAY FOCUSED mitt is possibly the thing in this kitchen that brings me the most joy. (It has strong competition in my Kyocera black-bladed ceramic knife, but that thing bit me this morning so it’s in Time Out.)
[ID: An image of two oven mitts lying on a cutting board; one has stylized green graphic avocados on it, and lying on top of that one is a blue mitt with light-blue accents that reads Stay Focused in huge yellow swirly letters.]

Okay, a conversation with friends has revealed some disparities in how we deal with putting hot dishes on a table.
For reference, a trivet is a small mat/plate meant to be placed under a hot dish to protect a table from being damaged by the heat. They can be made from cork, wood, cloth, metal, ceramic, etc.
Here are some examples:

If you didn't know these were a thing at all, that counts as not calling them trivets.
Thanks for indulging my curiosity!

March, 17th 2024 – [...] Now that I'm thinking about it, this entire drink would have been nice as is if I had some sort of mesh strainer to seperate the large chunks from the juice itself. That way, it could suffice without ice! 🧊 I def need to invest in one if I cant find one thrifted.
Look at this Thang!

(Still wet from washing and sanitizing it)
I thrifted it, indeed! I'm so glad cuz this was exactly what I was looking for! Although.... its quite enourmous for my needs lol.
Tbh, I'm not sure what this would be use for at this size? And what would one even call this tool? I siezed a second-hand opportunity for a few bucks but am not even sure what I bought LMAO.
My idea was to use only part of it to strain unpleasant veggie chunks from juice blends I make with my blender. But i def dont need this much mesh for small streams of liquid!
I'll be back with ideas for this peculiar tennis racket I bought lol...

Hi, do y'all have any advice for keeping knives sharp so that doesn't become a hurdle to prep/cooking?
so knife sharpening is a pretty contentious topics in some circles (lots of ways to do it and type of knives!) but this is the tool that i use for my knives (which are all very standard and non-fancy)
Tumblr media
it's about $6-$10, can be bought at most major stores, and works just fine. it has a non-stick gripping bottom. you place it on your counter and draw the knife towards you a few times on the coarse side, and then a few times more on the fine. it'll put an edge back on it.
if this isn't doable for you, there are most likely somewhat affordable knife sharpening services nearby you! some people do it as a little side gig :)
note: as @werevampiwolf said in the notes, this will not work on serrated knives!
