ALBUM OF THE MONTH: DOOR IN THE WATER https://johnnyjblairsingeratlarge.bandcamp.com/album/door-in-the-water-25th-anniversary-expanded-edition …This is the recording that put me on the map; my first full-length album—then described as “a New Wave concept album.” Topically, it was inspired by a San Francisco fellowship of friends. The LP was loosely formatted after “concept albums” like PET SOUNDS (Beach Boys), LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY (Genesis), and the PRESERVATION ACT series by The Kinks. It was started in San Francisco and finished in the hilly, hipster city of Knoxville TN at a studio that The Jacksons used for a rehearsal space (they let me use their Yamaha DX7 keyboards). This was released in 1985, the record label I was signed to did near-to-nothing to promote it nor did they provide tour support. However, who knew this record would reach people across the oceans and “open doors” I couldn’t foresee? For that I am grateful.
DOOR IN THE WATER was remastered in 2010 by Scott Francis w/bonus material on the download version + live takes of my band October w/Ron Davis, Chris Haggerty, Bridget Purifoy, Anna Valdez, and Victor Valverde. I recently found vinyl copies and am signing them as people buy them. Please enjoy music that has withstood the tides of time:

i'm cheating a little bit this week. Cops On Acid is local to Asheville, just 1.5 hours northeast of Knoxville.
As far as i can find, this band is not online. there is a soundclick (?) page i could find and that was it. i've only seem them once. yes, they dressed like cops, yes, they were on acid. The set fell apart near the end. the drums got scattered. The band all stumbled around stage. It was awesome.
This album is one of the two releases im aware of, the other is a VHS that i'll get around to digitizing soon.
Cops On Acid is loose and gooey, there's this push and pull in groove throughout the release that really makes it. Everything is washed out. The drums are right behind you and they're broken. The guitar and synths are somewhere below. The vocals are coming from the other side of the canyon.
The sudden ~heatwave caused our magnolia tree to bloom on campus. So gorgeous. Here’s hoping east Tennessee’s temperamental weather doesn’t kill it prematurely.

Emerging Knoxville-based hip-hop duo Black Fuchsia formed during late 2020. And although the project is a relatively new project, the act is comprised of seasoned Knoxville music scene vets, who have worked together in various other projects over the years. Suffice to say, the members of Black Fuchsia have a rather unique musical chemistry, rooted in their shared history.

@pink-pone I LOOOOVE Thai tea boba 😭 ik tom kha has a lot of ingredients so there’s room for differences in the recipe between restaurants but…. A lot of times I find that there’s either way too much lime or way too much fish sauce. Or both even 😔 i make it at home a lot inspired by this Thai place in Birmingham, AL that literally nothing else can compare to. Like heavenly coconut milk soup. Light on the fish sauce but with a stronger ginger and red curry flavor
As for Minecraft I love it! I’m out of my Minecraft phase atm while I play several hundred hours of bg3 but once I’m through with that it’s back to Minecraft haha. I played a lot over the summer last year, i love to explore and make little farms :]
